Ralph McQuarrie 1929-2012

Ralph McQuarrie, the visionary artist responsible for what we’ve come to know as the look and feel of Star Wars, passed away yesterday at the age of 82. Visit StarWars.com to read a note from George Lucas on his passing and be sure to visit the official Ralph McQuarrie website to view many of his magnificent works.

What an inspiration this man was for so many. The world was a better place with him in it. He will be missed but his memory will go on forever. It would be nice to see some sort of tribute from Hasbro.

A very sad day, indeed. Ralph’s works were the first that got me into being an artist and they had a power greater than the movies could ever convey. His work will always be venerated by generations of artists to come and thanks for changing the banner of the site to honor this visionary.

Star Wars may never have happened if it were not for Ralph McQuarrie’s efforts. His concept illustrations sold Alan Ladd & 20th Century Fox on the idea, when all the other studios passed on it. We owe it all to this great guy!
