Hasbro Addresses 6″ Leia on Display at Celebration Europe

Hasbro Design Director Steve Evans has replied via or Instagram page regarding the complaints of the 6″ Princess Leia figure on display at Celebration Europe.

“the Leia figure shown at SWCE is a pre-production ‘first shot’ and is not final deco. We are addressing the delicacies of lips, eyes and eyebrows. The hood is also not stitched as it will be in final product.”

    THAT’S A HOOD? I thought it was a Cone-of-Shame.

  • Bareth Tregassian

Are they going to adress that it looks nothing like Carrie?? What is it with the three main Characters that sculptors just cat get. I have never seen a bang on sculpt of any of them. Ever.

  • Bombadgungan

Whoa! What happened between Toy Fair and now? The last time we saw this figure, if not quite perfect, she did at least look pretty darn nice. It’s hard to say from these photos, but I’m concerned that the issue is more than skin deep, meaning more than just sloppy paint apps. I’m glad Hasbro is on the case, but I can’t see that they would go back and resculpt a figure at this point.

I’d like to see some other photos. This Jedi Insider photography really seems to accentuate the problems with a weird camera angle, giving her a giant head and short stumpy body. Even the soft goods look all wrong compared with the Toy Fair figure. The earlier prototype looked taller and sleeker and in perfect proportion by comparison.

    • souldeserter

It looked even worse at Toy Fair.

      • Ezra Khan

Nah, it was bad, but this is worse. Every version they have come out with is consistently worse than the last.

  • Paulskywalker

Leia meets the Wicked Witch of the west. How can they go backwards from the toy fair??

    • Bombadgungan

LOL! That is a perfect description of this face!
I agree, sometimes the production version isn’t as stunning as what can be achieved by artisans hand painting a prototype, but this is a dramatic change and a change for the worse.

      • Paulskywalker

I’ll get you my little pretty and your Wookie too!

  • Mother_Talzin

Hasbro should address deco issues across the board, because there are problems in the basic line, 3.75 exclusives, and 6 inch. The worst offender in my opinion are the 3.75 exclusives at Walmart, so much for a premium line, the 5 POA figures have better deco!

  • Rogue 13

It’s not just the paint, her head is enormous and poorly sculpted. Take the cinnamon buns off and you would never even guess it was supposed to be Leia.

    • Bombadgungan

It’s weird. I don’t know if it’s just the paint or the underlying sculpt. The Toy Fair sculpt wasn’t perfect, but it was certainly acceptable. How can this sculpt be so different? They wouldn’t have resculpted it.

  • Mike Short

    DUCK FACE! 🙂

  • Struggle buggy

Oh C’mon Hasbro, you haven’t released a new TBS6 figure in months, you already showed this horrid thing at Toy Fair back in February and you still couldn’t find the time to get it right before displaying it in front of thousands of rabid SW fans in the middle of July? Shame, Hasbro, Shame

  • SID

SOOOOOO tired of six inch toys. 3-4 or 12 inch only please. Anything else I feel is yet another random toy, just like all the ones from the late 80’s to late 90’s. Japanese kits I feel are an exception because they are ment to be for “professional” serious collector’s.

  • Nathaniel Morin

The more I see of some of these Black Series figures, the more I wish SH Figuarts would expand their line…

  • Greg Roberts

This reminds me of the monkey face Leia from POTF2. Remember? People were willing to sell their souls for a 3-banded belt Leia.

    • Paulskywalker

I was just gonna say the same thing.

  • RumSleg

I gotta call BS on Mr. Evans. Could anyone have such poor judgment that they’d deliberately display a first-shot figure that looked this bad? No way. They’d fix the paint first.

    • Rivesjunctionite

That’s just what I was thinking. If they knew it was that bad, why display it?

    • I think they may have gotten a little too comfortable that people still buy these figures despite all of their deco issues. Maybe they thought we’d accept this one along with the rest.

  • hutt

That is more than a paint app issue…wide chin, pudgy, strangely shapen nose, low forehead, The sculpt on slave leia was good…that figure had paint app issues…this one has sculpt issues.

  • Finally I have the action figure for the moment Princess Leia is trapped in a confined space when a wookiee farts. Thanks Hasbro for thinking of the completists.

    • chad

Yep, that’s her reaction when the group falls into the trash compactor.

  • Trovovo

Hate to be cynical but these paint operations are on par with everything 6″ that’s been released in the last couple of years and I’m betting this is an accurate representation of what will show up in stores. And too bad, I was just about to give them props for keeping it real and not unveiling a stunningly perfect sample.

  • chad

AAAHHHHH!!!!! That face!!!! Don’t do that.

  • mic windu

Sure Hasbro, like you painted Hans hair the wrong colour on all your products, eyes and eye brows are dreadful on Leia and Poe. Face it your not who you once were, doing the brand a huge disservice

    • I have to question if they had even planned to address this were it not for the huge outcry. If I had something this horrible to show a hoard of Star Wars fans, I would have prefaced it from the start that “THIS ISN’T THE FINAL SAMPLE – WE’RE STILL WORKING ON THE FACIAL PAINT OPERATIONS” or…. just not show it all. They might have been better off showing the Toy Fair prototype.

  • RumDumb

Yeah I dump on HASBRO but I love them for giving me a 1:18 toyline (which got shifted to 1:12? for a reason I can only see as greed) to a very cherished childhood treasure . But….come on! Why did they even show this? Just seems strange… And shows us that they really are out of touch with an already annoyed group of consumers.

  • Kenny Kraly Jr

Good to hear from Hasbro they are addressing it and good to know they are listening too

    • RumDumb

      True…silver lining

    • Youre a couple months to early for your sentiments. Maybe wait till you have the figure in hand before praising hasbro.

      • Bombadgungan

Of course for many, it is never too early to talk crap.
