Mystery 3.75″ Protocol Droid Figure

We have another as-of-yet unannounced figure to share today. This image comes from our source that discovered those four disney droidfactory astromechs we revealed. Details are scarce for this protocol droid other than it looks to be R-3PO. There is a theory that the build-a-droid/droidfactory program may expand to include protocol droids as there are a fair amount throughout the films to pull from. Click on through for a closer look.

  • Bombadgungan

Could it be from their 3D printing program?

  • Adam Holt

This fellow could stand a light wash to pull out all those details. I hope this happens.

  • RumDumb

    Is this 5 POA?

    • Yup

      • CT-7567

Isn’t R-3P0 a bit darker? Would they even use 5poa for BAD?

      • Bombadgungan

Really? I could swear I see articulated ankles here. It also looks like it might have waist and elbow joints. Why else would the elbows be cut in so deeply and be lacking the struts? That’s unlike any protocol sculpt before with un-articulated elbows.

        • CT-7567

Merry Christmas, Bombad. 🙂 Have a great day.!

          • Bombadgungan

Merry Christmas to you as well CT-7567!
Peace and joy and all those good things.

          • CT-7567

Btw, I changed my Disqus name. Previously Darth Janus. Just wanted you to know who I am.

          • Bombadgungan

Thanks, I wasn’t sure. Same avatar though, right?

  • Rykrof_Enloe

Looks a ton better than Hasbro’s version of 5POA protocol droids.

    • CT-7567

Just wanted to say Merry Xmas, Rykrof. 🙂

  • JACKOFTRADZE

Love the addition of a Protocol Droid but not this sculpt……

  • Fiery Little One

Hmm… Some details are missing from the arms… Considering what Disney did when they took over the Build-a-Droid stuff I could see this being something similar.

  • LadyFerry

Is it now the fashion for all Protocol Droids to wear a corset under the stomach wires?

  • General Hux

I like the idea of BAP but the quality of this figure looks horrendous, it looks really “waxy”.

    • Rykrof_Enloe

True… but would look really cool with a custom paint job

      • General Hux

Good point, repainting this guy would be fun.

    • Bombadgungan
      • General Hux

That one is bad, but not as bad as the one featured in this article.

        • Bombadgungan

I was being sarcastic. PVC is glossy. I suppose you expect them to use the more rubbery ABS plastic for these or expect them to paint over the parts with a matte paint?

          • KRISDFA

You have this backwards – ABS is the hard plastic, PVC is rubbery.

          • Bombadgungan

Yes I did. Thank you. I should have just left the terminology out of it. My point was that some figures, like droids, are made of a different, harder, glossier plastic than the human/alien figures, which use a softer, more rubbery, less glossy plastic.

        • Bombadgungan
          • General Hux

That looks like white chocolate. LOL

          • Bombadgungan

Nope! It’s plastic if you can believe it. That’s why real fans only by Hot Toys, not Hasblo.
            *sarcasm*

          • General Hux

You’re such a weirdo if don’t spend $200+ on every figure you buy cheapskate!

            *sarcasm*

          • CT-7567

I can’t believe the only way to get a TFA Luke is to spend $230 on the Hot Toy. No saber either. I know he didn’t have one in the movie, but I really want him to still have his green saber. And for $230 he should come with something. I don’t usually collect 12″ scale, but that new Disney Elite Premium Deathtrooper is calling to me. They all look ok to me, but I watched a video review of Vader and because his suit is faux leather it severely inhibits articulation. The Deathtrooper is all plastic though. I love those guys. All the new troopers from RO are just awesome, IMO.

          • CT-7567

Lol. I knew you were going to mention the Pop. I’ll get it eventually. I got Han, Nein, and Hassk Thug for $3 each a few months ago. My first Pops and they are cool. But I want an actual action figure of Luke. Pops are more line little statues. 5poa, SA, 6″. At this point I don’t care. Even Disney’s new 12″ line. I just want that TFA Luke!

          • Bombadgungan

I’m glad you’re still able to have a good sense of humor about it. For as nifty as Pops are, they’re not for everyone and not a real substitute for an action figure, so I know where you’re coming from. I think it comes down to horrible timing. Apparently his role and look in TFA was top secret until the film came out and by then work at Hasbro had shifted to the RO toy line. If we didn’t have annual back to back movies we may have seen a Luke figure by now. Let’s cross our fingers Luke will be top priority with Ep. VIII. At that point I will expect mine to be TBS 3.75″ with soft goods cloak.

          • CT-7567

The only thing is that he might have a different costume in the next movie. It might be a really cool costume too. 🙂 And a good amount of screen time would probably get us a SA TBS figure for sure.

      • CT-7567

        Which figure is that?

        • Bombadgungan

K-3PO from the Hoth Recon Patrol Battle Pack in The Legacy Collection.

        • Bombadgungan

Do you have this one? Or any other K-3PO? I just found the newest K-3PO release a few days ago! OK, you got me. It was a Tsum Tsum. 🙂

          • CT-7567

Not this one. I have the POTJ figure. There’s another one I can’t quite think of right now. Was he released in a Battle Pack? Not the SOTDS one. I’m thinking TLC. Recon Patrol? I’m pretty sure I have him in a battle pack that I never got an opener of. Edit- ok I do have this one. I was thinking of the Ultimate Battle Pack one.

  • Rivesjunctionite

Disney doing protocol droils would be most excellent. Then they could do clone troopers, rebel troopers, main characters, and just take over the 3.75 line completely. That would be awesome!

    • Bombadgungan

Less awesome is the fact that I only make it over to Disney World at the opposite corner of the country once every 25 years or so. It would certainly make collecting a lot more difficult.

  • Tom P.

It could be R-3PO from Empire.

  • Indysolo007

There is also a red protocol droid at the end of Force Awakens when the whole group of resistance HQ goes to say bye-bye to Rey.

  • Maybe it’s the red protocol droid from the mini-comic “Droid Dilemma”, featured in Marvel’s Star Wars #25 https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/8094dea98bb7b7ea4ff3798ac36b0383184a4bb1c8474301c9ce82a97243c35c.jpg

  • lordtyrannusaurus

This looks a LOT like the VC C-3PO mold without removable panels.

    • Cody Brown

The legs look longer and the overall proportions are better

  • RumSleg

    BAP would be fun.

  • Indysolo007

PLEASE be a build a protocol!!!
