Rumor Report: Intercepted Transmission from Hoth

It’s a cold and blustery Friday here in Minnesota/Hoth, and a new rumor has risen over the frozen horizon. The exact details are coded and the source had a self-destruct, but it’s a good bet that the Empire (Hasbro) knows it’s coming and Darth Vader is seeing to it personally (as a pack-in).

  • Rykrof_Enloe

If the rumor that Hasbro is looking for a retail partner for this is true, it seems as though it’s definitely 6″ scale because 3.75″ would go to Walmart if it’s TBS… which will be a shame if 3.75″ continues to get the shaft.

I have no problem with the 6″ line, and really like the figures, but 3.75″ is and always will be my preference.

    • Bombadgungan

Do you give any credence to the possibility of it being a Class I vehicle & figure set in the 5-POA 3.75″ line? I could clearly see that being mass retail.

      • Shabby Blue

A probe droid is not a vehicle. Well actually… I guess it COULD be one, if a trooper wanted to piggyback on it. So yeah, that’s how Hasbro will market it. With a snowtrooper riding piggyback on the probe droid in the package.

        • Bombadgungan

I don’t believe there is any hard rule that a Class I set has to be a vehicle. I can imagine if Hasbro were to release another beast for example, it could easily slot in the Class I or Class I Deluxe sublines. I was only using “vehicle and figure” as a descriptor of the line. You can feel free to omit that if it makes you more comfortable with the idea of a Probe Droid in Class I.

  • Shabby Blue

So it’s possibly a 6″ probe droid with yet another Vader variant with minimal difference (snow deco painted on his boots?). Just like the 3,75″ line, Hasbro is shoving every possible Vader variant at us whether we want it or not. I’m going to hate having to pay a premium for this pack because Vader is included in it, just to get a probe droid. Meanwhile we’re still waiting for some Hoth Rebels (or ANY Rebel Trooper) from the OT films. I was really hoping Rogue One would have resulted in getting a Rebel Fleet Trooper in the 6″ line, but apparently that’s not happening. So we’ll probably never get a Hoth Rebel Trooper either. 🙁

  • Matt Trivett

6″ cruisemissile trooper with probe droid pack in. The only way it could be more awesome is if it was a 4 pack with Wilrow Hood and Jaxxon. Wilrow’s ice cream maker accessory will only be in the sdcc exclusive though.

  • RumSleg

Shows how little I care about 6″ – it didn’t even occur to me that this would be a 6″ set. But of course it probably is. Skip. 😛

  • 6 inch for the win, please. It’s always nice to hear how many people are REFUSING to get them. That leaves more chances for me to find it. Thank you for giving us “hope” 🙂

    • RumDumb

We do what we can 🙂

  • Bombadgungan

3.75″ makes the most sense. Packed with Darth Vader this would fit perfectly in the Class I vehicle and figure line.

    • RumDumb

Because it makes the most sense is why we won’t get it.

    • CT-7567

I’d be for that, except the 5poa Vader would probably be the one we’ve gotten a bunch of times already. I actually really like the new RO Vader, but it bothers me that his eye lenses aren’t red. I also like the 5poa Rebels Vader. I’m sick of the first MS one, though.

  • 5POA Jakku Finn with a probe droid inspired zip-line and a Vader missile launcher. 🙂

    • Bombadgungan

Conspiracy theorists say that any rumor report likely boils down to Hasbro devising a way to get more Jakku Finns and giant missile launchers out there on the market. 😉

  • jedipatrick

It’s obviously a 6″ Probe Droid packed in with Vader. I cannot see Hasbro going back on their preference and offer collectors what they’ve been wanting for years, a 3.75″ Probe Droid. No, their core market plan for collectors is sadly now the horrible 6″ line and they’ll make sure they provide another “reason” for collectors to switch to that awful line size. But honestly it’s not working, I’m not gonna buy this crap. Didn’t buy the Tauntaun nor the Wampa set, so there’s no way I’m jumping on board this overly expensive and too large scale of toys.

    • “…too large scale of toys.”
I like the way you think!

    • HemDazon

Honestly, I’m really glad that Hasbro is switching more and more to the 6″ line. Back in 2013 I was hoping they would continue the SA 3.75″ line as well… so that the people who have been buying those for years, decades even, can expand their collections (I myself was more of a casual 3.75″ Star Wars figure collector), but since there are so many people spouting hateful comments in regards to the 6″ line I do a little happy-dance every time we get news like this.

  • Rob Nyul

Probe droid with a snow trooper tripod cannon

  • Sith Lord Jacen

Hopefully it’s a 6inch probe droid to go with the Wampa & Tuan Taun .

    • bobcat

good point! i wasnt even thinking of those 2 pack sets. that seems the most likely. unless they go lame exclusive..i hope not!

      • CT-7567

I wonder which Vader they’d use? The upcoming 6″ Vader is clearly from ANHRO and the first 6″ Vader wasn’t very good and doesn’t really go with a probe droid. I suppose they could use the Walgreens EW Vader with the helmet painted black. It’s not a perfect figure but much better than the first one. I’d be cool with a return to the deluxe sets starting with a probe droid and Vader set. A Dewback would be nice. I wonder if the rumored landspeeder wLuke wood be too big for the deluxe assortment?

        • bobcat

i saw a promo picture and heard this vader is the ”definitive” vader or something like that..i guess they realized the first one wasnt that great. i dont mind it to be honest. the cape is awesome and his upper body chest armor is nice and bulky in a cool way. that and the cape make the figure for me. the head sculpt is weird,i agree but the rest works for me. even if the chastity belt or whatever it is he wears. lol is a bit weird on it too..i still like the figure

so anyway, ya, i think its a new vader but like u said parts of it prob will be from the Walgreens version and possibly even some from the first one. kitbash..will find out i guess in time. 🙂

  • HAVE YOU SMELT IT

Is it a Kmart exclusive of the 6″ #02 Vader with a chunk of ice and frost sprayed on the legs?

  • bobcat

3.75” would be great but realistically this sounds like 6” Vader with probe droid and im feeling ”exclusive” which will piss everyone off that doesnt get it… :/ but i hope im totally wrong..fingers crossed!

  • Just remember how reved up everyone was over what was the EE astromech set? I have no faith in these things now.

    • RumDumb

      Ditto. 6″ I bet. Ugh

    • Roq

      Hahahaha!!

  • Zachary Hering

I would love a 6 inch probe droid with vader and a Hoth rebel soldier

  • I hope this isn’t a repack of that Mission Series set…

  • I dont think the possibility of a new probe droid has anything to do with this news and is unlikely, but now its got me wondering: does anyone know how big the probe droid is supposed to be? The measurement is 1.6 meters in height but its hard to know if that measurement take into specify the appendages/antenna being fully extended or not.
I just always felt the old PotF probe droid was too tall, but would it work for the 6inch series? (found this pic of someone’s custom):

    • Bombadgungan

Yeah, I really can’t see them resculpting the Probe Droid unless they do a TBS 6″ version. Although… sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but they have been in the habit of resclupting vehicles to scale them down and reduce content and weight. Could they be making a simplified Probe Droid for the 5-POA 3.75″ line?

      • I would probably be able to accept a 5 PoA probe droid, but its true that its more likely for that scale to be cheaped out on by hasbro, while their precious 6 inch line would get the fully articulated and detailed version.

      • RumSleg

There’s also precedent now for tinier probe droids based on what we’ve seen in Rebels.

  • Mateo Galvez

Is this going to be Black Series 3.75 or 5POA line? Cus if it’s Black Series 3.75 I’ll lose my mind in a good way.

  • Greg Sanders

    Please be 3.75″

  • Rykrof_Enloe

Not that a 6″ scale Probe Droid wouldn’t be welcome, but I’d personally love to see some sort of TBS 3.75″ scale Battle Pack… if Vader’s gonna be included, it makes sense for some sort of Hoth invasion set. Perhaps Vader, 2x Snowtrooper, and Probe Droid?

The Legacy Hoth Recon Patrol battle pack was okay for it’s day (what was it, $30?)… but the Probe Droid was still a repack of the old POTF2 mold…

    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/d31cf46e4a8b5e3119bc7e2d1f576c4eb168b4ca0c0c921bb6ae7bed4367ee6b.jpg

Anways, hope it’s coming – but really, they should be able to make a new Probe Droid in the 3.75″ scale and put them in packages somewhat similar to the current TBS” 6″ scale… a Probe Droid and a new 3.75″ Wampa in an assorment would kick @$$.

    • CT-7567

I really like that pack. The paint apps are pretty good on the probe. Plus we got the VTSC Hoth Han with the hood up and a new astromech.

    • HAVE YOU SMELT IT

I even miss seeing things like this now…

    • Bombadgungan

I have that set and it is indeed cool! However, as a long time collector, I don’t know that I need yet another Probe Droid unless it’s a significant improvement. Nice to make available to newer fans/collectors though, since it’s been what, 9 years since the last one?

I hadn’t even thought of 6″! Now that would be cool! We already have Hoth Luke/Wampa, Han/Tauntaun and are just now getting Snowtrooper and AT-AT Driver. An Imperial Probe Droid would be a great addition.

  • Jebediaah

I want a Probot single packed on a Kenner ESB card. Not part of a set.

    • CT-7567

Sounds good. Although a Kenner style box might be better than a card. Like the boxes the Wampa and Tauntaun came in.

      • Jebediaah

I think the Kenner/Hasbro Probot was a bit large. A newly sculpted and correctly scaled version would look great on a blister card. Hasbro fit a Tri-Droid on a TAC card.

  • ronstoneygold

Wish I could remember which Star Wars Toy collecting podcast I listened to earlier this week that said (wishfully hoping) a new Probe Droid should be released. It was newly released on iTunes. Anyone?

    • ToyRun or StarWars Collectors Galaxy talked about it. Those are the two I listened to this week and I remember someone talking about it as well.

  • Chris Lastovich

I enjoy the thought that goes into these rumor reports.

  • Hmmm Hoth playset with Probe Droid and Vader?

    • I doubt it will be a playset. But I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a wave of Build A Droid figures, each with a Probe Droid part. Possibly another Amazon exclusive set like we got a few years back.

      • Rykrof_Enloe

THAT is too creative and of an idea, unfortunately.

    • Bombadgungan

Playset? MicroMachines? Sorry, that is all I can imagine as a playset these days. Other than a fold-open vehicle like the TFA Falcon.

  • Paulskywalker

    What size?

    • General Hux

Crap, didn’t even think about that. Hope it’s 3.75″.

      • Paulskywalker

For me both would be great, though if it’s 6 inch why possibly a Vader with a bit of snow on his boots? Why not a Hoth Rebel Trooper, then they could do a basic card one with a different head sculpt and paint app.

        • CT-7567

Yeah. Vader never really interacted with the probe droid. Han and Chewie did, but they’ve been released already. I can’t really see what they could do to the existing 6″ Hoth Han and Chewie figures to make them newer. Except maybe paint snow on Chewie’s fur, which I personally wouldn’t want. My guess is 6″ scale probe with the Emperor’s Wrath Vader altered to fit the set.

      • CT-7567

        Me too, but I’d bet it’s 6″.

        • General Hux

Maybe Hasbro is packing the TBS6 Rogue One Vader with a Probe Droid as a retailer exclusive? That would sorta make sense, but I kinda doubt my own theory!

  • General Hux

Probe Droid….Sweet!!! With Vader? Maybe a battle pack?

  • The probe droid did a cameo in Rogue One on Jedha and the original sclupt is way old so that would be a good choice.

    • Shabby Blue

The original sculpt wouldn’t be replaced with this one since the rumor is implying this is a 6″ scale Probe Droid, not 3.75″

  • Chuck McMenamin

An Imperial Probe Droid figure with Hoth Vader?
