I seen someone that is trying to make a super articulated at-act drive out of the scarif trooper

I was just thinking of that the other day. I would totally try to do that if their were any super articulate Scarif Troopers available in my area. I was lucky to get the 2 that I have.

Question. What paints do you guys recommend? I’ve heard Citadel is the way to go. Has anyone used Testors Model Masters? I grew up building plastic model planes, ships, cars, robots, etc. and have always used the basic Testors enamel paints, however they don’t seem to be the best for use on action figures. The problem being they never seem to dry completely. They remain tacky/sticky days, weeks, months later. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I mostly use Testors acrylics… I would not use enamels… they can be a nightmare!

You can also try out other acrylic brands that are cheaper, such as Apple Barrel and Delta Ceramcoat… I do recommend if you use those paints, to try and mix in some of Testors clear acrylic matte or Testors clear acrylic gloss. That’s because Testors paint is much more durable and it will strengthen the paint.

Also… paint in thin layers! Very thin layers. 🙂

Thanks for the advice Rykrof! I have not heard of any of those other brands you have mentioned. I have seen the Testors acrylics though, so maybe I’ll give those a shot. I’m not really needing to go the cheapest route. I am more concerned about getting the most professional results possible (while hopefully not breaking the bank). Also, are there any national retailers where you can find these paints? Michael’s has a pretty nice selection of Testors, but no Model Masters, Citadel or others that I recall. I’ll have to go take another look.

I still need to go out and get some paint, and find the 3.75″ TBS Shoretrooper and then I’ll start my custom Shoretrooper captain. 🙂

    • Rykrof_Enloe

Even if you don’t go wtih the Shoretrooper there’s so many other characters, troops, etc. to make… I’ve got quite a list I’m going to try and tackle for this.

I’m thinking of some simple stuff to start my customizing, so I may look through the Rogue One visual Guide and find some other simple customs to do.

        • Rykrof_Enloe

If you’re just starting out, I say just go with your imagination before trying to really replicate characters. Just from personal experience.

          • General Hux

The Shoretrooper Captain is simple enough that I don’t really need too much experience to do it but thanks for your advice, I will probably do some simple customs like you suggested to start out. 🙂

          • Bombadgungan

I’ve been meaning to do the same. All my customs (really not that many) have been repaints. I’ve already given my s/a Shoretrooper and 5POA Shoretrooper Squad Leader a dirty wash. It really does a lot to bring out the details.

I ran by my local Hobby Town USA the other week to pick up some paints only to discover they’ve closed down and moved out. No doubt to be replaced by a cellular phone shop. 🙁

          • Rykrof_Enloe

I still do simple customs mostly… just part swaps and paint,
