UPDATE: The Return of the Double Racing Stripe

NY Toy Fair gets under way in a few weeks and, as you know, this year marks the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars. Packaging across many brands will display the above logo and the return of the iconic double racing stripe — at least until the marketing push for The Last Jedi begins that is.

UPDATE: JediNews is currently posting their coverage of the UK Toy Fair in London and this post confirms our teaser from earlier today. Revell’s packaging design always carries the current (or in this case, upcoming) line look for the Star Wars brand and we expect it will be no different for the 40th Anniversary branded products.

Bring back The Vintage Collection. And how about a darn Mailaway offer again? Seems like all the fun of collecting Star Wars toys has been sucked dry since Disney moved into the neighborhood. Just my 2 cents.

    • HAVE YOU SMELT IT

They dont seem to like making new 3.75 legacy movie figures anymore, considering a blue dress Leia exists. I know its Disney.

    • don

Never found 90% of the vintage collection

  • Rykrof_Enloe

Packaging is nice, but what really matters is what’s in the package. Need a good 3.75″ mainstream toy line again. 5poa needs to go away.

    • Bombadgungan

I have no problem with 5poa, but I would like to see a more robust 3.75″ super-articulated line.

    finally

    • yes, I posted that link in my article update.

    • Bombadgungan

      Looks good!

  • DustinW

    Love it!

  • SlothFromHoth

If this is going to be a very limited look for just the Spring/Summer, I hope the products we get live up to it.

    • Bombadgungan

We were hoping for diamonds for our anniversary, but Hasbro will get us a toaster. 😉

  • Jebediaah

I hope if they put super-articulated 3.75″ figures on the Kenner style card and wish to include that new 40th logo then it better be a removable sticker or relegated to the package back only.

    • jacksonactionjackson

      Totally agree.

    • Paulskywalker

I think they need to have the mark to indicate to customers it’s the 40th, so maybe they’ll be vintage style?

    • Sith Lord Jacen

yep no stickers on the Vintage cards,,how many cards were ruined with the stupid Boba Fett / Darth Maul/ mail away stickers slapped over the characters face..I like to buy unopened cases of the Vintage Collection figures and have them graded After the stickers I quit that and just peeled off the sticker and threw it in the trash where they belonged

    • HAVE YOU SMELT IT

      hope you like reissues

    • Emi Takei

      yes! that’s true??

    • Firestick User

Dude, it’s ALL about the 40th logo (either sticker or printed on package ) and it will be on front, in your face.

  • Matthew Ruch

    Love that look!

  • General Hux

Hmmm, I’m starting to thing that’s why the 3.75″ Admiral Raddus wave was delayed, because of the packaging change to 40th anniversary style.

    • Seronious

I hope not. I hope they keep with the standard look of the cards they started with during the Force Awakens, and maintain that the entire way throught. I hope this 40th anniversary logo is just for the 12 BS 6″ figures, and those weird 3.75″ SA figures that were listed… and that’s the extent of the marketing for this line.

      • Bombadgungan

I would love it if the 40th Ann. was a full line like 30th Ann. Coll. ’07, but with the very short window between Rogue One and Ep. VIII I just don’t see that happening. If Hasbro only celebrates this event with a set of “original 12” 6-inch figures and some die cast figures I feel that would be a bit of a let down.

        • Seronious

I’m definitely for the vintage line returning…. but right now, I don’t know if there is enough characters from the 2 movies to sustain a full line that goes year round just yet. I can understand some wanting to see a much broader line of SA 3.75 figures again, but they re-released many of them like Luke, Han, Vader, Chewy, etc under the black series, and those figures kind of sat on the shelves. I can still pick up many of those. So, i’m not sure what the demand is for OT SA figures anymore.

          • Bombadgungan

Really? You don’t think there are enough fans of the OT and PT along with TFA and RO fans to support a full line of saga figures? I’m not remembering the details of the full lineup of TAC ’07 figures, but I’m fairly certain a large portion of them were either all-new or retools with different parts to make them something we didn’t already have. I realize repacks are a necessary evil to maintain costs or to get something on the market quickly, but I don’t believe those 4 figures offered anything to get long time fans excited. Vader and Chewie did fine in my area. “Vader always sells” and Chewbacca doesn’t seem to get all that many releases, so there was still a market (plus he could be a perfectly fine stand in for TFA Chewie). Luke and Han were absolutely Ep. VI specific. Repacked Luke from a cut scene would have limited appeal and that Trenchcoat Han or one very close to it had been released at least half a dozen times before. Those were the ones that really hung around. I honestly believe that first wave was stopgap figures. If you were to ask any long time fan for a list of figures they would like to see – all-new, re-tools and repacks – I’m sure they’d have no problem filling up a year-long lineup and be excited about them.

I’m a first-gen SW fan and would like a new run of vintage from 2017 until 2027. The 2017 figs should have a removable 40th sticker and then just regular cardbacks from then on. Do this now and I don’t need anything exciting for the 50th aniv.

        • General Hux

They have some awesome 3.75″ figures planned too. Just wait 🙂

          • Bombadgungan

OK. I am putting my faith in you Hux. Don’t let me down! 🙂

          • Bombadgungan

I’m still waiting for the awesomeness. 😉

          • General Hux

More is yet to be revealed(I believe) but it looks like some things have changed. :-/

    • HAVE YOU SMELT IT

pretty sure its the full pegs.

    • Bombadgungan

What? What does Admiral Raddus from Rogue One have to do with the 40th anniversary of Star Wars?

      • General Hux

Absolutley nothing but that wave was delayed. maybe to fill in some spots if Hasbro is planning on going to 40th Anniversary packaging for the Summer.

      • Firestick User

I’ll guess they will mix cardbacks in upcomming cases.
