I don’t know that Rung from transformers didn’t make toys? he’s debut transformers IDW comic. in combiner wars bio written by rung?

  • franksolo77

Dr Aphra who? Looks like a poor man’s Jyn Erso.

    • hammyhamster

Wow. That’s pretty much the worst insult you can make.

      Kudos.

  • tyehyll

“I hate Dr. Aphra because I don’t know who she is” please guys. You guys sound like little babies having a tantrum. She is the most popular new comic character. Her books sell very well and it’s about time Hasbro made a new comic character. If you are OH SO DISAPPOINTED then by all means. Petition for comic packs to come back so these characters you don’t know, or don’t care to know, will stay out of the vintage collection and your precious polls. And we comic fans can reap the benefits as well.

    • WeenieBeenie

Might as well make an action figure of my philosophy professor…Dr. Frumpy Neck…about as exciting as the good Dr. Aphra. Think of all the incredible EU figures from the comics that have never been made–Freedon Nad, Master Arca, Naga Shadow, the Massassi, Gav and Jori Daragon, Darth Wyrrlok, Emperor Fel, and on and on. And we get stuck with…..Dr. Aphra? A boring archaeologist? Are you kidding?! Hurmph!!!! BOYCOTT!

      • Paul B

I’d like to see Thrawn’s former EU body guards the Noghri.
Really hope they get into season 4

        • You’ll probably will have some 5 POA of Rukh, he is stated to appear in the next season of Rebels, so Noghri and Rukh in particular are cannon now.

      • tyehyll

        Childish response. NO WAY

        • WeenieBeenie

its not childish…its a lame figure and i dont think most fans appreciate it over the other possibilities. No one knows or cares who Aphra is…

          • tyehyll

Most fans appreciate it as most fans voted for her. Do you really think the miniscule votes on these sites are even a remotely fair representation of the masses? Obviously not or else the background characters wouldn’t have trailed in last place.

          • Paul B

OR many more people who don’t care about collecting action figures voted for her

          • tyehyll

Unlikely. Polls had what 60,000 votes? This site had maybe like 30 in the pre lims? These sites are not as big as you think compared to Facebook etc

          • Bombadgungan

So people who just have a casual interest in Star Wars and who won’t actually buy the action figure voted because they wanted to a part of what was trending on Facebook?

          • Bombadgungan

I wonder if the results would have been different were we required to put down a cash deposit on our figure with our cast vote.

      • Its obvious you havent read a single page of an Aphra comic or at the very least, a wikipedia entry.

  • Ben Bonstein

Not a surprise that people are so butthurt about this. Oh well.

  • Littlegreenwiseguy

    So…ignorance?

  • LaurenceQuint

    What sisters?

    • Paul B

      The Tonkia sisters

  • WeenieBeenie

Dr. Aphra is she related to Dr. Who??? As in, Dr. Who the HELL is this character?!?!? This CAN’T be right? No orginial series characters? Not even a Pong Krell? From the EU, not even a Freedon Nad or a Naga Sadow (there is not a SINGLE real Sith species character made yet to date?!)? Absurd. I hope its a peg warmer.

    • Littlegreenwiseguy

Couldn’t agree more. With all of the people bloviating about “ballot stuffing” for BEN SKYWALKER, how does she beat out the other characters with way more history? (Seems legit)

  • Littlegreenwiseguy

So….this is the winner. How exactly is this ANY better than BEN SKYWALKER!?

    • LaurenceQuint

Hasbro/Disney shouldn’t even consider characters from the discarded EU/legends anymore. Those stories are old and forgotten. It makes perfect sense not to support old material that Disney isn’t interested in.

Also, Ben Skywalker would just create massive confusion with Ben Solo. It would have been very foolish to make a Ben Skywalker figure, who is far, far more obscure than Aphra, who is at least featured in her own eponymous and current series.

      • Littlegreenwiseguy

Yeah, the Legends have been around for 20+ years read by millions of fans around the world. They aren’t forgotten by any stretch. JAINA SOLO is getting made as a 6″ figure because the character has been around in novels and comics since 1991. BEN SKYWALKER came in later novels and comics but has certainly been around longer than DR. APHRA. BEN SOLO is confusion. His character is so poorly written and executed on film, it’s laughable. (At least the audience was laughing when we went)

    • hammyhamster

It ain’t. Benjamin Skywalker would’ve been better.

  • 2BBBB

I’m Just collect toys 3 inch. I love it. I hope it will not exclusive store.

  • Paul B
    • … that list doesn’t have Ahsoka Tano, Asajj Ventress or any of the Rebels, looks like a movie only list… it’s on the movie section so it makes sense it would be movie only…

    • Littlegreenwiseguy

Just looked at that list. How the frell do they justify it!? They actually have BB-8 ranked higher than DARTH MAUL! Rolling”stoned” Magazine is not a good support for debate, it seems.

      • LaurenceQuint

BB-8 is a very beloved character from a movie that people really liked. Most people acknowledge that “Phantom Menace” was a really bad movie.

BB-8 is plucky and cute and heroic. Maul is just a cool-looking henchman with barely any dialogue and virtually no real function in the plot.

        • Littlegreenwiseguy

The only people I’m aware of that call The Phantom Menace a “bad film” are blinders who can’t be happy no matter what. DARTH MAUL had way more function in just TPM than BB-8 did in TFA. BB-8 doesn’t actually do anything but run in the film and carry the map fragment. A MOUSE DROID COULD DO THAT. MAUL hunts the Jedi, enforces DARTH SIDIOUS and the Trade Federation at Naboo, and actually kills a Jedi master in arguably one of the best lightsaber battles in the entire saga. Those are rather important functions to the film’s story.

          • LaurenceQuint

You seem to have an extremely limited understanding of “story” so I’ll just leave it at that.

          • Littlegreenwiseguy

Spoken as a card carrying blinder.

          • Paul B

Duel of the Fates is actually the top song that’s of all of the Star Wars songs downloaded
            The Imperial march is second.

      • Bombadgungan

I really liked K-2SO in Rogue One, but how the heck do they justify ranking him ahead of Chewbacca?

    • LaurenceQuint

It’s a movie-only list, obviously. No EU, animation, etc.

  • Leonard Shaw

Oh, absolutely. The distribution on TBS6 Revan was/is one of the worst ever. That definitely played into how sought after he is now.

  • Leonard Shaw

I know how they can make this more palatable for everyone… Instead of putting Aphra on a single TVC card… make it a 3-Pack in the “SPECIAL Action Figure Set” Vintage packaging (see example below)… and include BT-1 and 0-0-0. Boom. Win for all. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9511c703e1eb9b783b2c8aa2797a8ee43a6e1ce2b24a4fd509ac5e05c1339b68.jpg

    • …that’s also a good solution for selling different era’s in the same line, you bundle OT, FA and Rebels all together in the same package, and you increased the changes of selling it (and sadly the price to get a specific character).

      • Hazzbro Jonez

yea exactly. they used to do this all the time back in the golden era IMO 06-08 all those legacy and evolution packs all contained multi-era characters

      • Bombadgungan

        Noooooooooo… !
That would be a horrible idea. While there may be a few that would be willing to shell out for the one character they want, there would be many more who say screw it, I’m not paying that much to get the one figure I want and walk away.

        • …we might not like buying 3 characters, when we just 1 of those, but that’s a way to make money and maintain the line alive…

    • Hazzbro Jonez

      that would be awesome !

    • I had that Vader… can’t remember ever seeing the cape… and that lightsaber didn’t last 😀

    • LaurenceQuint

I was honestly hoping they might use Aphra and 000 to launch a new comic pack line. But, oh well, at least she’s coming out.

    • Bombadgungan

Excellent! So they could then disqualify Aphra from the poll and announce Sim Aloo as the new winner! 🙂

  • What I find hard to understand in this community, is that you fought for this line to be revived, and now you are almost asking for it to fail… you said that there are fewer collectors now than in 2007 and you keep campaigning for 30 to 40 year old background characters, this kind of figure will bring new collectors to this line. It will be the only collectable of that character you should the thrilled with this choice, ever kid that loves that comic will think in buying this extra-expensive toy… and then we will need another… good right?

    • Leonard Shaw

Those are some very valid (and likely accurate) points. But you know how hard it is to view these hobbies rationally when there is so much emotion invested as well. In the end, we should each want a vibrant, successful line with products that make everyone happy (but also don’t put us all in the poor house lol)

      • Oh!!!, I do understand you!!! I took my poor wife on so many Revan run’s that she ended up getting me one on ebay just to stop me from dragging her to see empty shells :D. And like one collector said in another site “I want what I want. If this line doesn’t have what I want, why would I care if it fails?” (referring to SA, vintage packaging and OT figures) that’s also a valid point, but it’s an uncompromising stand on the future of the line, that in my opinion doesn’t leaves great margin for it to succeed.

    • Hazzbro Jonez

i think the thing that will kill this line eventually will be the price point, yet again. i doubt the wal mart line would have peg-warmed if they were like $7-8 dollars like the 5POA.
no one wants a smaller scale figure for $12.83 a pop

      • Paul B

Part of the peg warning was the figure selection
Same Han Luke Chewie and Vader we’ve gotten many times in different lines TFA Han Leia and Phasma sold through but shipped several times, Poe and Finn were over produced
The ERG and RO wave is hard to find.

        • Bombadgungan

Distribution was atrocious! I never saw more than 3/4 of a case of waves 1,3,4 at any given time. Wave 2 was completely M.I.A.! Wave 4 was several months late, essentially showing up for the RO toy launch. It wasn’t until wave 5 (Akbar/Ahsoka/ERG/Lando) that all the pegs were filled. And then it was a tidal wave. RO figures rolled in by the container load. And now Walmart has marked them down to below cost to get rid of them. What a joke!

      • …price is important for mass market toys, but this will be market as a premium line, the base line is 5POA. I would expect a higher value than the last 3.75 Black Series, no exclusivity to lower the end price….
        (can’t comment on the values where I’m at 5POA cost as 15€ and 6” 30 €)
…but do you think all this negativity that we see on the collector community helps anyone?

        • Hazzbro Jonez

it shouldn’t be marketed as premium anything when the figures from 2008 have better paint apps than the wal mart black series 3.75. its disrespectful to the community to even market anything other than what it is, a toy. if i want premium ill go buy mafex or sh figuarts. i’ve spent a lot of money on this franchise since for as long as i can remember so my wallet definitely can be as negative about corporate BS as it wants to

          • Hazzbro Jonez

everything hasbro has done since 2012-2013 has been to increase profit and have a better bottom line because when you make really good quality products with acceptable pricing , you lose money in the long run

          • …the price of licencing and the distribution channels are completely different now … there is a great interview of Tod McFarland explaining how he managed to make such great figures and why he can’t maintain certain lines now… the answer is, got free/dirty cheap licences and lots of shops now gone buying.

          • …be that as it may, star wars toys sells, George got 4 Billion because of that, Hasbro stock climbed trough the roof in the last 5 years and Disney is making a ton of cash… all this is true… but I can’t see that changing, all have answer to their stock holders… as I understand it lower prices in SA might still be possible with more repacking… sharing of design and 3d meshes with other lines… but, of course, you might be right and this new line is cheaper than the 3.75 Black Series…

    • Bombadgungan

You make a good point that they do need to include some of the newer characters to keep the line relevant and bring in the younger (under 35) fan base to grow the line. I have no doubt at all they will be doing that with characters from Ep. VIII, VII and possibly even Rogue One and the Han Solo story. I do however hope they include an ample amount of 30-40 year old background characters (and main characters too). Those are the ones I am most excited for. Hasbro has never been overly focused on EU characters, so those of us who couldn’t care less about the comics and video games cab rest easy knowing it will just be a token “fans’ choice” figure here and there.

      • … for what I can see, Disney will always “demand” some light on the flavor of the month, that is, the movie currently on screen, and that will always make the bulk of the offer in shells at any given moment… everything else will be a bonus… If this line does really well, they will add more odd characters, being that background characters from OT, PT or new stuff… For OT collectors the good news are, there is a lot of content being made around the OT era, you might not like this character in particular but she would fit in any OT collection as a background smuggler, her droids are very similar with the OT ones… the same can be said of the RO content and most of the stuff in Rebels (helicopter lightsabers are a stretch :D)

  • HAVE YOU SMELT IT

I was Aphraid the newbie fans would ruin things for us.

  • SID

Cool. A character I know or care nothing about… Guess its time for me to read more current SW comics (I stopped since I liked dark horse’s direction a lot more)

  • tigersith

Very disappointed in the winner………….Dr. Aphra…………..how lame!!

  • barney dunn

Amazing, we still have no Luke Skywalker or Lor San Tekka from The Force Awakens but we get the famous Dr. Aphra. Even her two droids are more interesting. Is this Star Wars or is this Battlestar Galactica?

    • Gloriouscollector

I’m sorry I thought this toy line was called THE VINTAGE COLLECTION meaning the majority of figures consisting from the original trilogy or the live-action 3 trilogies not Expanded Universe characters. Why don’t you E.U. obsessive fans, tell Hasbro you want the 3.75″ SA Comic-Packs back, I personally would support that line, heck I even will want it to be Expanded Universe characters only, no comic book adaptations of movie characters, because if my memory serves correct those packs were always peg warmers.

      • Bombadgungan

I too am miffed every time these EU characters hijack the polls. However, as far at The Vintage Collection being truly “vintage”, I believe that would have to restrict it to the original 3 films and Droids and Ewoks animation only. Well, we all know that is not going to happen. 2010-2013 TVC paved the way for Prequel characters to be included as well as a smattering of EU. Whether or not EU belongs in this line is another argument, but I don’t think we have to worry about where the majority of figures for this new TVC line come from. It will without a doubt be from the live action films.

Awesome. My favorite marvel comic character currently and my most desired figure. Stoked.

  • Zachary Hering

Is there any chance of a six inch version also?

    • Gloriouscollector

I wouldn’t be surprised if Hasbro will announce a Black Series 6″ version this year.

      • Zachary Hering

That would be great to have with ANH vader.

        • pb180

I didn’t vote because I only collect the six inch figures, but I would’ve voted for Aphra if I did. Hope she sells well enough that we see a six inch figure released. I may even buy the 3.75 version if it’s easier to find than Revan. A Target 3-pack of her and her droids would be great.

  • Sith Lord Jacen

WHO???? If you weren’t in Star Wars/Empire/Jedi I don’t want you in my collection

Nice! Would be kind of cool if her TVC card matches her vintage Kenner variant cover.

  • Jay Radd

Glad for anybody who actually knows about and likes this character, but it’s not for me.

  • Fiery Little One

I’m happy since she’s the only one on the list, as far as I know, that has never had figure.

    • LaurenceQuint

Exactly. New stuff is always welcome!

      • Fiery Little One

I’ll be the first acknowledge where my knowledge has its limits, hence ‘as far as I know,’ but I felt someone who’s a first timer like Aphra needed the vote.

        • LaurenceQuint

Well, you were (mostly) correct. Of all the finalists, she is (mostly) the only one to never have had a figure. The clone “Fives” did not have a figure, but since clones, by definition, are identical, there are so many figures out there that are remarkably similar to what Fives looks like that a figure of him would merely be a retread of existing stuff.

I’m not even a very big fan of the character or her comic book, but I’m delighted that she was chosen.

Just as I have know nothing about Jarael, Rohlan Dyre, T’Ra Saa, Darth Talon, Vilmark Grark, Sigel Dare or Deliah Blue are, but I’m delighted that I own all those figures.

          • Fiery Little One

Yeah, I lumped Fives in with the other clones because of the fact that he’d be a repaint of any of the others.

          • Cody Brown

Fives definitely had a few figures

  • John Titus

No thanks. Have these fan polls ever yielded anything worth a purchase? I literally have never heard of this Aphra, until the poll. Glad it’s 3.75″ and not another Revan in 6″.

  • Shane Christopher Madgett

I’m happy. Fun character. Was considering making a custom. Now I don’t have to.

    Next? 000 and BT-1?!?!

  • Gloriouscollector

What a peg warming waste of a vote, such an uninteresting hack character. Cause you know you always have to have an Indiana Jones rip-off character in Star Wars. Isn’t that right voters (casual Star Wars fans who just got into collecting last week).

    • JourneyWynd

How many “causal fans” read the comic?

      • Gloriouscollector

Come on are we still going to pretend that the casual fan base doesn’t read comics how do you explain DC’s The New 52 (2011-2016) initiative or, Marvels Marvel Now! (2012-2017) initiative. Those promotions were made for casual readers, but as expected just a momentary spurt in sales by casual readers and then a decline in sales. Hence why DC has gone back to it’s roots and Marvel will too this fall.

  • El_tito

No clue who she is. Wonder how it’ll look.

    • Gloriouscollector

Trust me you are not missing anything she is just a smarmy, snippy character who thinks she could talk back to Darth Vader. Vader should have sliced her in two not throw her out of an airlock.

    • Zachary Hering

I never knew till I looked her up after seeing the six. She is cool but my vote was fives. Pong krell or Tera Sinube would be better

  • Rykrof_Enloe

I’ve kept up with her in the comics. I think her character is very overrated.

Still though, if it’s a good figure that can be purchased by those that want it, then good.

  • GIBBS v2

Yak face should do a new poll.

Did you know about the Dr. Aphra character before the poll came out?

The Hasbro poll sort of suggests almost 40% of the community knew about and was excited enough to vote for her. Do 40% of collectors read the comic books?

    .

  • Doog

Well, at least it’ll be a figure of a new character. Although I would have preferred one from the actual movies.

    • Ben Bonstein

You never know nowadays, she might just show up in a movie!

    • LaurenceQuint

I bought just about every comic pack out there (well, not the ones that were just day-glo repaints) specifically because the characters weren’t in the movies. (and I never actually read the books.)

I just liked getting fresh, funky, new designs, rather than the usual stuff.

      • Gloriouscollector

Then you probably would enjoy Jaxxon. LOL the dumbest EU character ever!!!!

        • LaurenceQuint

Just about every EU character is incredibly dumb.

Agreed my good sir, agreed. LoL

          • Leonard Shaw

Agreed. But I do like several KOTOR characters, particularly Revan. But they’re definitely the exception (which is one reason why Revan TBS6 is so dang hard to find… he’s an EU character that non-EU peeps like too).

  • LaurenceQuint

Hooray. Good choice. Even though I think the comic (and character) are a bit overrated and a little too fan-fic-y for my taste.

But this poll is best when it gives us a chance to get a new figure, the likes of which we have never seen and would likely never see otherwise.

  • bigpiffle

i didn’t vote because i don’t collect 3.75″ anymore but i am so glad aphra won! hopefully there’ll be more comic figures now hasbro knows we’re interested! black krrsantan, 0-0-0, BT-1, aphra even chanath cha would really spice up my collection!

  • Hebeloma Crustuliniforme

For those of us who loved the comic book packs where they packaged two 3.75″ figures with a comic book, this is a step in the right direction. Doctor Aphra (along with her two droids 0-0-0 and BT-1) is the most interesting and dynamic character to come out of the Star Wars comics since Marvel started publishing them again in January, 2015. Hopefully, the fan and collector interest demonstrated here will prompt Hasbro to make 0-0-0 and BT-1 as well. Kotobukiya has already made the droids in the plastic. Fantasy Flight Games has 0-0-0 and BT-1 due later this summer. When did Hasbro fall so far behind that they let other licensees introduce new figures to plastic before they did? If you call yourself a Star Wars fan and you don’t know Doctor Aphra and her droids, this should be a wake-up call. They make their debut appearance in Darth Vader issue #3, which is collected in the volume 1 of the trade paperback collection. Go check it out!

  • GIBBS v2

This is precisely who they wanted to win.

Female (girl power) check, Asian appearance (diversity win) check, A new character (story potential) check… They want another Ashoka style character they can build the popularity and brand for and merchandise the heck out of their new creation.

Not being cynical or paranoid it just is what it is.

    • Well at least its refreshing to see someone else being blamed other than cheating fans or zealots. Do you think Lucasfilm operatives put in all those extra votes? Or was it the top officials of the team who handled this poll who adjusted the numbers?

      • GIBBS v2

Yak face should do a new poll.

Did you know about the Dr. Aphra character before the poll came out?

The Hasbro poll sort of suggests almost 40% of the community knew about and was excited enough to vote for her. Do 40% of collectors read the comic books?

        • John Titus

          The poll was total BS.

        • Honestly yes. I read the comics and really like the whole Vader series she was a part of. She is a new and ORIGINAL character that didnt fall into the trap that the old Dash Rendar character did, which was a cheap rehash/substitute for the Han Solo type (as much as I like that character I have to admit that.) I picked up an extra SA Jyn and was ready to make an Aphra custom. Now I am working on customs for inspector Thanoth, Black Krrsantan and the new droids from that series. It was a compelling story and the new characters are very interesting.
I cant talk about your second question where you speculate on a supposition. What I can say is that her appearance in that Vader series was so well received that Marvel decided to give the character a chance in her own series. I assume that means the sales must have done very well. They are not going to give a solo title on a character that appeals to very little people. Now all collectors here may not read comics books, but how many of those comic book collectors that loved that story vote for Ahpra? Not too mention all the collectors that voted for her.

I also have the entire Vadar series and enjoyed her. I actually feared and rooted for her but I just find it very hard to believe she has such mass appeal outside of comic book circles. Especially when prior to those polls all we hear over and over are VINTAGE VINTAGE VINTAGE and then very newest, unknown character wins by a landslide?

Totally agree. How does she get the top pick!? (I’m not against her being on the list, but her character has not had the time to legitimately build that big of a following.) She didn’t even appear on some websites top 6 picks!

          • Littlegreenwiseguy

Actually Marvel is doing exactly that. Black Bolt #1 came out this week and they are now taking single characters from anywhere (and I mean anywhere) in there catalog history and giving them a comic book. It is just their strategy to squeeze out shelf space to bump out DC COMICS and other competitors from the stands. (check bleedingcool.com for the coverage on this story) It is no joke.

        • Littlegreenwiseguy

          Great idea.

        • …everybody probably knew her, there was a great fuzz about her when they released her title… so even that you didn’t read comics it would appear in the SW related radar… If you read comics you probably knew from Vader’s comic that was really well received

        • Bombadgungan

I was aware of the character’s existence by name and image only. I knew she was a comic book character, but nothing more. And yes, that is the question I asked myself. Are that many Star Wars figure collectors also readers of the comic books?

    • John Titus

Nailed it. Collectors want figures they’ve been asking for for decades. They aren’t going to all suddenly jump to some fetish nobody Character from the annoying Marvel SJW’s

      • Gloriouscollector

Yeah it’s almost as if there is an agenda or something.

  • Mother_Talzin

I hope they make the other characters from the poll, because I don’t follow this comic, and I’m not overly interested in buying this character. I’d also like an explanation about Pong Krell and why he was removed.

    • Zachary Hering

damn straight. Pong Krell needs a figure. Especially six inch.
