Star Wars Girl Power

Reports are coming in that some retailers, such as Target are receiving solid casesΒ of the 6″ 40th Anniversary Princess Leia figure, such as the image above provided by forum member dubsack. Β This also appears to be happening at some Toys”R”us stores.

Now, we’re not opposed to this great figure of our favorite princess being in good supply, but solid cases of anything in this scale at mass retail seems like it could cause problems, unless we’re talking Stormtroopers or Royal Guards (even that would be risky).

Thoughts? Β Let us know what you think in the forums!

“Seems like it could cause problems…”

Are you fisting me? These will be here till the 50th anniversary.

  • Bombadgungan

So now this explains why Leia is the only figure I’m finding at my local Target. I personally think this is a great figure, but I agree that solid cases are NOT the way to go. Especially in this day and age when stores like Target allot space for just eight of these figures at a time. That’s just begging for the line to bottleneck. They’re throwing all of their eggs into one basket, hoping Leia is a huge hit rather than offering a little bit of everything with a mixed case.

    • Kraig Mclaughlin

Totally agree. And what is worse, this line is touted as a collect all 12 situation. How is that suppose to happen?

  • RumSleg

I suspect the #wheresrey internet rage (probably propogated by many who do not purchase the products) caused Hasbro to overreact. They were in a tough spot. Either over-produce a figure or take another PR hit for a manufactured controversy.

  • CT-7567

I have no doubt about that. In 3.85″ scale. Hasbro will repack every new figure from the Walmart TBS in TVC2. I’m not necessarily opposed to that as it’s kind of inevitable. It just bothers me that so many of us wanted TFA and RO figures on vintage cards, not to mention a widespread retail release, to begin with. I didn’t get repacks of figures i already had in TBS (PIII), but it’ll be hard not to get them on vintage cards that are all numbered. Do you think they’ll start the numbering off at #1 or #116? Do you have a preference?

    • Littlegreenwiseguy

I would have to believe after this many years that the numbering will reset to #1.

      • CT-7567

        Yup. That’s my preference too.

  • CT-7567

I hope that wasn’t their intention. Seems unlikely, but who knows? It is the first Leia figure I’ve gotten since Carrie passed. πŸ™ The last was the 3.75″ Rebels version of Leia, and although it isn’t based on Carrie Fisher’s appearance, it’s still Leia so I feel like it’s a special figure. If that makes any sense. πŸ™‚

    • Littlegreenwiseguy

I would like to believe that it is a “commemoration” of her in character, but with Hasbro, it is difficult to tell.

  • CT-7567

Well, at least I’ll be able to get an extra on clearance. Only problem is wave two will be totally blocked. πŸ™ I guess it’s TRU or nothing.

  • Jville808

It’s crazy how they handle stock on these figures, both the regular Black Series line and now the 40th. Both Hasbro and the retailers are in the money making business, yet they flood the shelves with the least popular figures every single wave (at least since I’ve been collecting them), pretty much halting the sales of them. It makes absolutely no sense…

    • Jeffery Morey

I have been [preaching about how hasobro is worst company much like Nintendo it seems like they actually dont care if they make money…….You would be suprised though when discussing this kind of thing how many times you are told your wrong and they are doing a great job……it mystifies me

      • Rykrof_Enloe

They are making money, the problem is they are hurting their retail partners – the time may come with the retailers are fed up with it and really cut back the number of SKU’s they carry… until that happens, it’s probably going to be business as usual with Hasbro.

  • Super Amigo

What’s the worst it could happen?

That we see only Princesses in the Star Wars toy aisles three or four years from now?

She’s nice to look at, AND she comes in a vintage card. I’ve been seeing only Finns for more than two years now and he has none of those advantages.

  • Skav Atar

what about the Hans and R2s? they’re going for atleast double retail price, and impossible to find atm. been going to all the walmarts, targets, toysruss, walgreens, bestbuys, etc for the past few weeks. only seen a few leias, obiwans, and lukes.

  • Brian Beck

at least they are not the ‘monkey face’ version.

  • CSEddleman

    I must have missed the #WheresLeia thread…

    • Brian Beck

that was in December when no one could find wave 9 πŸ˜‰

  • Mother_Talzin

Hasbro is likely overestimating the popularity of the 6 inch line – were there this many Luke figures at a store, it would also be an issue. These solid case packs should be online only, because individual stores likely cant move this many figures of any single character.

  • Firestick User

Saw my first 6″ 4Oth at Target yesterday and all 3 were Leia. They were outside the aside on the end-cap, standing up, not on pegs.

  • Emperor was a jerk

I’ve yet to see any of the 40th Anniversary figures in stores near me. So even this would be great.

  • Zachary Hering

How about less time making Leias and more time developing a six inch Pong Krell.

    • Rykrof_Enloe

If they ever make that it won’t be a mainline figure. Look at $35+ at least.

      • Zachary Hering

        I’d pay 1000 for him.

        • CT-7567

Really? Because I have this bridge I’m looking to get rid of…. πŸ˜‰

          • Zachary Hering

Well, I would. Pong Krell is amazing and NEEDS a six inch figure. Ya hear that Hasbro??!?!?

  • HAVE YOU SMELT IT

The Hasbro dimwit just looked at the BS scalper sales after Fisher’s death and ACTUALLY F’N DECIDED to take the train to town on it, like it was the Marvel Legends Deadpool. What a complete moron. This is what college turns out.

  • General Hux

Oh, dear, this is going to cause some problems.

  • SID

it’s a nice figure that looks good on a card. I doubt this will really be a problem. Even the hero series sell after sitting long enough. If stores get only cases of this over and over like Jyn or wave 2 of 5poa then your going to bottle neck.

  • Ben Bonstein

I don’t know… does seem kind of risky. But with Carrie’s passing recently I think casual fans, like people who don’t really collect at all, are likely to give it a second look. Not saying it’ll sell through but that and the fact that it’s a much improved version of the black box figure can’t hurt.

    • Rykrof_Enloe

Most people never saw the Black Series version… Just seems like a bad idea. Even this many of Vader at once is really excessive… So let’s say these stores get in 8-16 of this Leia at once… If they don’t move quickly, will the store even get any other figures from the line? Or any Wave 2?

      • CT-7567

I was worried about people buying the Legacy pack and returning it with a less desirable 40th figure in it at first. But then the figures were selling out, so it didn’t seem as likely. Now I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Legacy set with Leia in it. I certainly don’t condone that behavior, but boy is that stand so NOT worth $20. They should’ve sold all twelve as basic figures with the stand as a mail-away offer for buying a certain amount of them.

        • Ben Bonstein

How ironic would that be? The early-bird package becoming a mail-away!

    • HAVE YOU SMELT IT

Leia figures were never a hit. A minor actors death is not going to increase demand enough for solid cases. Somebody really messed up by not thinking R2 was the one to go with.

    • CT-7567

Having her Carrie’s photo on the card, which is a reproduction of the original Leia figure’s card, and the figure being of her most iconic outfit certainly could get casual buyers to buy one on impulse.
