Rey Not to Be Included in Monopoly Set After All

Last year during the height of the #WheresRey campaign, Hasbro addressed parent/fan/collector concerns regarding the omission of Rey as a game piece in the Monopoly The Force Awakens Set.

Today, the Chicago Tribune has posted a follow-up and “due to insufficient interest”, the game won’t be updated to include her (in the U.S.). But all is not lost as the representative for Hasbro states that the piece was in fact made and is available through Hasbro’s Customer Service department.

This actually makes sense…in the past two years we have had at least three new Star Wars Monopoly games: The Force Awakens, a quick version with ship tokens, and the 40th Anniversary edition. Why release a two year old version again just to add a token? How many of those units would actually move through retail, especially since we will probably get a new Monopoly in September for The Last Jedi with Luke, Kylo, Rey, Finn, etc.? Just call in, get your token and be done with it.

But Robert, that’s too reasonable. The fans must have something to rail against! 😉

First they went and got rid of the thimble, now this.

    • Bombadgungan

An insult to seamstresses everywhere! LOL!

  • Jason

Well obviously they hate women and want them all hunted down and killed!

I’m sure Kylo “Hissy Fit” Ren is in there. The lamest SW character yet. Rey was one of the only reason TFA was any good IMO.

  • Rykrof_Enloe

Oh, the horror. Let the drama ensue.

  • Brian Beck

can we call that # and ask where R2 and all the missing Walmart ‘exclusives are ?

    • Bombadgungan

I don’t know that you will get the answer you want, but you can always call. 🙂

  • Fiery Little One

… They made the piece, but won’t bother updating the game. You just have to contact them to get it… That’s very odd.

    • Robert Collins

I doubt the game is even in production any longer. They have made two new versions since and will no doubt launch a new one in September.

      • Fiery Little One

        That’s possible.

  • Andrew

    Done and done.

    Hi Andrew,

Thank you for contacting Hasbro regarding your Star Wars Monopoly game. We appreciate your feedback and will be happy to send you a Rey token that you can use for game play. Please allow 7-10 business days for the token to arrive.

In the meantime, can you please provide your phone number should we have an issue with the shipment?

Again, I’d like to thank you for taking the time to reach out to us.

I hope you have a fun day!

    Kind regards,
    Jacqui

    • Did they ask you for any random information, such as a product code or whatnot?

      • Andrew

They did not, but I did indeed purchase the game last year. I wouldn’t suggest abusing their willingness to send these out, but it was a pretty painless process of just asking for one.
