Brand of Confusion: Walmart To Retain 3.75″ TBS Exclusivity Through 2017?

It seems like there is even more confusion surrounding how “exclusive” the 3.75″ Black Series figure are to Walmart. You read our previous post about older assortments being available through comic distributors, but according to Steve Evans at Hasbro, Walmart is retaining exclusivity through the remainder of 2017 via this SDCC QNA exchange between Hasbro and From4LOMtoZuckuss.

“For ’17 we’re definitely carrying on our relationship with Wal*Mart Black Series exclusive line just as is until the end of the year.”

Ugh…..one more year of terrible boxes.

  • Wow. Wisconsin sounds just like Maine! Same exact thing for my store. I saw one or two cases of the Jyn and Deathtrooper wave hit before Christmas, and then just like your store…. NOTHING. I missed the trooper but was able to get a Jyn. I bet with the reset coming for the TLJ launch the pegs will be stuffed with figures from the last two waves. That will carry them until 2018.

  • Lara Marrs Goebel

Nice to know other parts of the country outside of my realm (IN and KY) didn’t get the second wave of WM RO BS figures. I was lucky to find the death trooper and Jyn. But no sign of Cassian and the beach trooper.

    • Brian Beck

Never hit se MI either. from reading these forums, seams like a big chunk of the midwest never got them.

  • Stereotypical Evil Archer

Walmart constantly lies about their stock levels and often sells far above MSRP. Those egregious acts should have voided any exclusivity agreement.

  • don

May i ask where in Wisconsin. Milwaukee here sucks

  • There should be no confusion. The mere fact that these are available to order through other outlets with an August availability date should prove to everyone that Walmart has lost exclusivity already.

    • Yet the confusion clearly exists — with in the brand. One could infer that Steve’s recent statement would supersede any prior information/speculation, but the publisher for Previews would’ve had to have this information weeks ago in order for the publication to be designed, printed and sent to distributors. Steve is clearly from the product development side of things and is not completely “in the loop” when it comes to sales and distribution.

      • Exactly. I didn’t know how to express what you did so eloquently without sounding insulting to Steve. Hasbro also seems to be in ‘denial’ about the 40th anniversary line being out of production (at the moment), save for some solid case packs.

So the TBS wave with TFA Luke will actually be available in other stores? Or just other online sources? I was actually able to get ERG and Ahsoka by going to Walmart on September 1st last year at opening. I was hoping to do the same for TFA Luke.

        • RumSleg

Same here. And nothing I’ve heard so far makes me think that’s changed. If the wave exists, I still expect Walmart will have it and it will get pushed past any older cases sitting in distribution along with the rest of the FF product. It worked last year for the Ahsoka/ERG/Lando/Ackbar cases, so it should work again this year. Just because the line might no longer be exclusive to Walmart shouldn’t mean Walmart doesn’t have it.

          • CT-7567

Yup. I’m planning on going there at opening again. I went to TRU at midnight for TFA and I still had to go out the next day because they didn’t have enough of anything. I’d just as soon go to a few Walmarts and Targets locally. Although I do prefer going up to NH for larger purchases because of the lack of sales tax. πŸ™‚

          • RumSleg

Two years ago I went to the TRU in Concord for the midnight opening and it was underwhelming. I was kind of annoyed that I had to drive an hour each way for that. Last year I learned my lesson and just hit two local Walmarts when they opened in the early morning. I’ll do the same this time around. And yeah, no sales tax in NH rules. πŸ™‚

          • CT-7567

I hate you for living up there. πŸ™‚ I still haven’t been up to the White Mountains yet.

          • RumSleg

I technically haven’t been back up to the Whites since we moved back up here 2 years ago, either. My kids are too small for the big hikes there, and we’ve been enjoying the outdoors closer to home in the Upper Valley. But soon enough. I can’t wait to do some nice long hikes over there.

          • Walmart losing exclusivity does not mean Walmart has been banned from carrying the line (even though that’s what they deserve).

          • Chris Weiss

            Amen!! Lol

        • Didn’t I make this clear already? πŸ™‚

      • zayne

they fly high. should see how it feels with their feet on the ground

    • CT-7567

      What other outlets?

    • RumSleg

I’m more curious what this means for BS3.75 and TVC2. I assumed BS3.75 would end when TVC2 started, but now Mr. Evans has said otherwise?

      • There “should be” one last wave of boxed TBS 3.75″ figures which includes Episode VIII Luke and Snoke and two others, but I don’t know if Hasbro’s plans have changed and they’re reserving them for TVC. They WILL be repacked in TVC if they do get released in TBS. Also, my sources revealed that the final 3.75″ TBS wave, if plans are still the same, will be available to ALL retailers (i.e not Walmart exclusives). I imagine that some stock will still be available/ship in early 2018, so the likelihood of still seeing boxed figures in 2018 is high.

As far as Steve Evan’s comment, TVC begins Spring 2018. He said the exclusivity expires the end of 2017 (even though it has already ended).

  • Darthoutwithyoursaberout

It’s funny when you go to wallmarts website there sold out but toywiz has them on walmarts website how dose that work? Seems to me like toywiz is buying them then jacking up price

  • Jebediaah

Same here. 7 months of old stock. Upstate NY.

  • SID

Hey, as long as Hasbro gets paid for hoarding the SW license.

  • Gothiczartan84

Let’s see what they have on Force Friday. I’m going even they may not have anything for me to get. As for The Vintage Collection coming to a galaxy far far way in 2018 spring time. It’s worth a wait. I hope we’ll get to see our favorite characters and hopefully there will be a retooled or all new sculpt Lando Calrissian Bespin Cloud City with a removable cape either soft goods or soft plastic.

  • I’m not surprised by this, because we are not getting The Vintage collection back until spring of 2018. So they have one more wave to completely screw up. And I’m SURE they will screw it up. I’m still waiting for my store to get the Cassian and Scarif trooper wave.

  • Paulskywalker

The sci go shops here in the UK already sold them here, but sadly only the repack Akbar wave. Which was better than ASDA (owned by Wal-Mart now) as they never got last the first wave.

  • don

WAlmart did not know how to distribute correctly

    • Jason Wood

Wal-Mart doesn’t care about exclusive toys.

  • Jebediaah

Weird. While what Walmart has left have dropped to $3.00 this week.
