Toyguide Update: 2016 PG Exclusive Maz Kanata Deluxe Mini Bust

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today as we take a look at the  2016 Premier Guild Exclusive Maz Kanata Deluxe Mini Bust from Gentle Giant.

PROS: An amazing recreation and likeness to Maz Kanata’s design from The Force Awakens. The sculpting overall is exquisite with many different textures and fabrics capturing in the polystone medium. The colors are vibrant  – from her orangish skin to her clothing and jewelry – as well as having a nice wash to bring out the fine wrinkles and folds. The inclusion of the swappable arms allows for two display options which is nice to have with some of these static pieces.

CONS:  Must be a PG Member to purchase ($120) which will probably drive the after market price higher in the future.  Could benefit from some tightening in the paint apps, especially on the hand gripping the lightsaber.

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today as we take a look at the  2016 Premier Guild Exclusive BB-8 (Holiday Edition) Mini Bust from Gentle Giant.

PROS: Excellent sculpting and deco, and the lights are a perfectly festive touch. LED lights are bright and the button batteries are included (preinstalled). 3 lighting modes give the collector options, although I suspect most will choose the solid (non-flashing) setting.

CONS:  Must be a PG Member to purchase ($120) which will probably drive the after market price higher in the future.  Fragile antennae could easily break if not handled properly.

Gentle Giant Jyn Erso Mini Bust

gg_jynerso_mb

Gentle Giant is now taking preorders for the first mini bust from Rogue One: Jyn Erso.

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars story films, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. Putting behind a checkered past by lending her skills to a greater cause, Jyn Erso is impetuous, defiant, and eager to bring the battle to the Empire. Used to operating alone, she finds higher purpose by taking on a desperate mission for the Rebel Alliance. Sculpted from “on set” reference and Lucasfilm archive materials, color matched using fabric swatches and then hand painted to pick up every bit of weathering on her fatigues. Each stripe and every snap are finely detailed, including her holster and unique blaster. Jyn Erso was digitally sculpted to ensure precision and character correct execution. This Rogue One limited edition 1:6 scale collectible is hand numbered and comes packed with a matching Gentle Giant certificate of authenticity.

Toyguide Update: Boba Fett (Prototype) Mini Bust (2015 Convention Exclusive)

tg_proto_fett_bust_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today as we take a look at the 2015 Convention Exclusive Boba Fett (Prototype) Mini Bust from Gentle Giant.

PROS:  Thankfully, Gentle Giant chose to create an all-new mini bust for this release rather than do a simple repaint of an existing sculpt – a practice that so many manufacturers employ. Although this piece is stark in its colorization, there is a different hue for the armor to set it apart from the underlying light gray jump suit that conveys a subtle realism to the bust. There is a lot of detail overall, especially in the gauntlets, jet pack and blaster that are highlighted with minimal, yet effective, paint accents and washes. For any Boba Fett fan, this is a must have piece.

CONS: Like the previous Boba Fett (McQuarrie Concept) bust we covered yesterday,  the aftermarket/third party price on this piece is about double the original cost,  but playing the long game on this may yield a bounty for a better price.
