Despite the moniker of “Wookiee Weekend” being attributed to April’s release of products for Solo: A Star Wars Story, it is being stated (and marketed by various retailers) that this weekend, kicking off with Star Wars Day (Friday, May 4th), will be the official launch of the “Wookiee Weekend” promotion. Look for some special product reveals to be announced soon as well as ticket sales for Solo: A Star Wars Story to open too.
In celebration of the 35th Anniversary of Return of the Jedi, Disney Stores and ShopDisney.com will be offering a new version of the Darth Vader Elite Series Die Cast Figure, this time featuring a removable helmet. Look for this and more exclusive merchandise to be released on Star Wars Day, May 4th.
Last week for May the 4th, my daughters had a special “Star Wars Day” function for school where they encouraged the kids to dress up as their favorite character. Naturally, I was all for this but felt the need to take it a step further so I took it upon myself to add a bit of flare to my daughter’s Jyn Erso costume and give her her own stolen Death Star Data Tape stunt prop. Hallmark’s Popminded YouTube channel has revealed details on upcoming in-store and online exclusives for the Itty Bittys plush line of collectibles.
Exclusive figures include, Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, Luke Skywalker with X-wing Fighter (available on Star Wars Day, May 4th) and Maz Kanata (available September 1).
PROS: The overall sculpt and size is good, making it manageable for most display applications and the pose is fitting for a bounty hunter in midst of battle. The carbon freezing chamber base gives it nice presentation while making it very stable for displaying. The best aspect of this piece is the addition of the light-up base – something that would have been great in the 2014 Darth Vader base. No assembly required.
CONS: Pricey for the size and its limited edition (750 piece) production run is driving up the secondary price on eBay with listings ranging from two to three times the retail price. Paint apps could be tighter, especially the silver weathering which borders on excessive.
Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and judge for yourself whether this piece is worth adding to your collection.
