Another reason is people will steal sets from other stores and return them to Target for a refund. You can return up to $75 worth of merchandise in a 12 month period using your ID if you don’t have a receipt. If they steal a couple of sets from Walmart to return to us, and it doesn’t have our logo, GS will know it wasn’t bought at a Target store.

In reply to FireFox91. If it is like other RFID stickers, I believe if you peel it the sticker will tear and interrupt the signal and activate an alarm.

Couldn’t someone just peel the thing off before they steal it? One thing about the TRU devices is that you can’t get them off without cutting them.

We’ve been doing this in our store for a while, although the aisle isn’t checked that frequently. A lot of stuff has the chance to sit on the shelf before the sticker is put on. It’s an easier method than putting security wrap around every item.

Saw the same thing yesterday at one of the STL Targets. One store had them, the other did not. The one that did was more aggressive with getting them on the Lord of the Rings sets.
