If UV light is a concern for collectors the “tackle boxes” could also be stored in standard office boxes for extra protection. This method didn’t work for me because of the size of my collection. The boxes I used took up no more space than your method but my collection just grew too large. Every collector is different and have different priorities when it comes to what they collect, how the collect, and how they wish to store their collection. I think you guys will do alright with this and wish you the best of luck.

Flambeau, that is the other brand… they can be found at WM for $6 ea. and Plano at KMart for $5 ea. I found the Flambeau to have a little more space for figures with many or large accessories. Neither have slots big enough for oversized characters like Amanaman or Hulk but are great for standard 3.75.

Hey there, glad you could chime in. Not sure if you checked out our kickstarter page but we did mention that we personally tried a lot of the methods you described and found repurposing general storage products just wasn’t working for us…and clearly they didn’t work for you by having to eventually use baggies. We have designed our Action Figure Foam Trays and Companion Black Boxes specifically for holding large amounts of action figures of various sizes in a clean organized manner…plastic of unknown origin specifically untested for longterm action figure storage, is not something we are really into, and when you factor in clear plastic cases; again, UV light is a killer be it from a window or overhead lighting and it can’t be ignored as a major problem for that option. We just think that it is time for action figure collectors with excellent loose figure collections deserve something designed specifically for them in the same way that Comic collectors have their own packaging and box setups.

You can always keep your most valuable figures in a mini that holds 24 or a standard box that holds your best 48…or just buy the foam trays and add them as you go.

So you think our foam is not entirely stable, I’m glad you’re here to tell us these things. Seriously though, its always better to ask questions rather than just assume. To sum up, what we mean by “collection compression” is that instead of taking up 5 book shelves of space somewhere with your figs getting dusty and potential UV exposure, you have them all in a small box about the size of an office archival box.

We also decided to do 12 figures per tray which amounts to approximately a pound of plastic joy spread out over each tray, this is also why each box only carries a max of 4 trays per box. Again, the weight would be spread out pretty evenly so that none of the figures nor foam gets any undue pressure put upon them. I am not sure what foam you think we are using but there are so many varieties with densities that are so varied, you would be hard pressed to just guess the type.

The foam is a one piece construction and to give you a little insight, we have lined up a Stress Testing Lab local to us which allows us to test loads of different variables to make sure your valuables are safe for the longterm and our foam holds up.

It would depend on the size of your tub if its large enough you sure could.

What do you mean by “collection compression”? If you just mean having figures bent up under the weight of lots of bagged figures throw into a box, then that relates to my question about the compression of this foam. I understood the general type of foam your proposed product was meant to be made from. I wasn’t assuming (as your earlier response stated) that it was anything akin to the vintage trash compactor foam, or anything else. But even the type of foam you suggest compresses from weight. Have you tested a prototype to be certain that a stack of four fully loaded trays wouldn’t begin to compress over time, and even have the bottom separate from the grid layer of each tray? I’ve seen this type of foam behave that way. And unless your trays are somehow all one piece, with each coffin carved out of a solid chunk, I’d be wary that the bottom would split off the grid leading to numerous other disasters.

Hey there. Certainly there are other options but baggies and storage bins are a step in the wrong direction for longterm organization, collection compression, storage, and obviously display. Our method makes it fast and easy for people who like to rotate figures in and out of their display showcase thus avoiding rooting around in a box full of baggies.
