I’m not writing off the entire film experience. I suspect that the personal story of the main characters will prove to be something quite different.

But this whole “Resistance vs. the First Order” conflict smacks of the old “Rebel Alliance vs. Galactic Empire” one. This is not helping.

In reply to souldeserter. I like that idea actually. I'm more inclined to think that because of the whole Journey to TFA book series. If it needs explaining. So Who's the dictators? Max Von Sydow could pull it off well so maybe but that's not what the rumours have said. What if Leia is a somewhat dictator? So far we've had nothing on the leaders front and Kylo Ren seems (ed) more like a rogue occultist rather than a leader of the empire. I just hope it's interesting but I prefer that to a simple New Republic.

Disney bought the franchise because there's an army of suckers who will just keep gobbling up the merchandise regardless of quality (5POA figures ring a bell?) and that's it, not because they wanted to preserve the quality or creative integrity. Disney is showing that it just wants to milk the franchise. I don't see anything really creative design-wise yet. If the new trilogy actually is good I'll definitely be on here saying I was wrong, but I just don't see it based on what I've seen so far. Bringing back the Empire, Star Destroyers, TIE Fighters, and stormtroopers is so creatively lazy and lame. If they set the story before ROTJ and used the same models, I wouldn't mind it at all because there would be a need for re-using old stuff. But if they want to move the franchise forward, then its a dull move. Its a big universe, lets get some new bad guys and stay off desert planets.

Amazing that people – even so-called ‘fans’ – are so eager to write the whole film experience off after having seen precisely 197 seconds of footage and a few photos of props. Your life must be truly astounding at every single second of every day for this to constitute a crushing disappointment. Hope you find something you like better out there. And good luck with that. Me, I’m rather looking forward to it, and that’s a nice feeling. “Have a better one” as someone once said.
