Ever since 2012 brick-and-mortar retail has been a mess and most of the things that could have been done to remedy it haven't been done. If Episode VII doesn't save the pegs and shelves, I doubt anything else will.

The distribution issue started rearing its ugly head in 2009. Some areas saw it as early as April/May with most of seeing nothing until December that year. The "TPM 3D Debacle of 2012" is what pushed it over the edge. I heartily agree with all of your other points however. :)

I want to give both Jayson and Steve tremendous praise for your positive attitude about the future of Star Wars collecting brought to us by the fine folks at Hasbro. Considering all of the "opportunities for improvement" that Hasbro has displayed since 2012 that I have listed below, it makes it that much more impressive to me your positivity about the brand. I also find your positive outlook very refreshing and a good counter-balance to my negative one. Please keep in mind as you read on, I realize these are just toys and only meant to bring fun and joy to people. This is just a light-hearted look at the recent struggles by Hasbro. OK, on with the negative:
1. Distribution problems (that all started with the massive overproduction of the Phantom Menace vintage figures and has been a consistent problem ever since)
2. Poor packaging (remember all of the bubbles that completely fell off of the first Black series cards and all of the loose figures we saw at the stores and eye-sore taped up packages?)
3. Poor paint apps (three words: "droopy eyes Leia")
4. Bad product ideas (Command Line, Chewbacca Furbee, angry birds, shampoo bottle 12 inch figures and the list could go on and on an on.....)
5. Bad representation of the Star Wars brand at conventions (most recently at NY Toy Fair, Star Wars Celebration and SDCC have been shamefully pathetic)
6. Poor representation of female characters in the line (this one is very well documented)
7.The handling of the Rebels animated TV show toy line (Hasbro speaking-"they'll be out in Sept 14, no wait, they'll be out in Dec 14, no wait, they'll be out in March 15". Next thing you know they are all on the clearance isle after having never showed up- how? People still have never seen a Chopper, Sabine or AT-DP driver on a shelf. Oh, by the way- what happened to that Target exclusive AT-DP vehicle with driver set that we were promised by Hasbro would be available "in abundance"- I'll tell you what happened to it- check TJ Maxx and Five below in about 6 months.
8. The Hasbro company line of "over-promising and under-delivering" for the last 3 and a half years.
9. Figures with different heights and proportions produced right after the previous version (see Slave Leis vs. Bounty Hunter Leia in the 6 inch line, the Ezra figures in the Rebels line and the Clones in the Black Series SA 3 3/4 line)
