I was one of those fans who was concerned about the tight release schedule of all of the upcoming Star Wars movies - sequels and spin-offs. After seeing with TFA that a Star Wars film can be successful with a December release, I'm given hope that Disney/Lucasfilm care more about getting these films right than about a rapid fire release schedule.

Actually I was pretty shocked, when I read this news in the morning. A May to December delay means we now have to wait 23 months until we see how the story continues, quite a significant jump from 16 to 23... YES i know we get Rogue One in 11 months time, still most of the community were actually pretty hyped to get three movies within a 18 month timeframe. So I guess May releases fo SW films are unlikely to happen for the next years, as they have discovered that audiences will flock to cinemas during winter as well. The question is, whether this proves to happen every year, once SW is not a huge event any more happening every decade, but releases become an annual thing. Also, this news kind of destroys my hopes, that we might be getting a trailer at Celebration London. Maybe they even save that up for SDCC or some other US-Con.
