Tarkin looked fantastic from a long or even medium shot but once they went in for the close up, forget it. Leia could have used a bit more distance too, to help strengthen the illusion.

Oh, dear. Who is criticizing like a child? Let me take a moment and point out its flaws as a film beyond its ruination of Star Wars and its overall intent and mythology: First, in FA its established that Luke made a map so that he could be found. Then, in TLJ, its established that he did not want to be found, crashed his X-Wing into the water so that it was inoperable, and was about to commit suicide just before Rey’s arrival. Nothing, nothing about that is consistent with Luke Skywalker, He was never, ever Emo. That term and identity didn’t exist in the late 1970s. He was a hopeful young idealist who would do anything, just anything for his friends and especially for his sister. He would never, ever leave her and his friends stranded for twenty years while he went away to die on a rock. That concept is just so far antithetical to his character that its incomprehensibile to me that you or anyone can defend it as a character arc. Even if he gave up on the Jedi way, he would never abandon his friends and his sister. NEVER. Second, the film took maybe a quarter of its run time to to establish a storyline meant only to force a new character-Rose- down the throats of its viewers. Their storyline at Canto Bight had absolutely no bearing on the plot and it was a worthless journey meant only to showcase the absolutely necessity of a forced character. Then, to conclude that worthless journey, they had the bridge of a Star Destroyer explode with the only remaining survivors being Finn, Rose, and Phasma for one of the more cheesy face-offs in SW history. This doesn’t even began to touch upon the Mary Poppins Leia, the humiliation of Poe, and the weaponizing of hyperspace, which breaks every in-universe rule of Star Wars and makes the Death Star irrelevant, as well as any future battle, for all the characters have to do is fire up a corvette and single-pilot it 9-11 style. Then we could get into Rey….Mary Sue, and all, but that would be endless typing. Not to mention the establishment of Knights of Ren, which are then dropped, or the building up of Snoke (Snore) only to dispense with him like he was a used tissue and render him totally irrelevant. As a film, it was so poorly executed, inconsistent, and full of plot holes that it makes Fast and Furious look like Shakespeare. As a Star Wars movie, it was a travesty for its character assassination and for its destruction of the Star Wars mythos and all that was good that this story once conveyed. It was poor film making in addition to being a film meant to kick Lucas and original fans in the teeth. I think the low audience interest in Solo and Episode 9 will bear this out.

Space Leia alone was worse than Tarkin

Not even close. In ROTJ he’s a Jedi, in TLJ he’s whiny loser who won’t help people. When they needed Obi Wan, who lost WAAAAY more than Luke, in ANH he went into action immediately. Luke gave excuses. Not to mention Mark Hamill said this isn’t Luke Skywalker.

Luke, from ANH, right through to TLJ, is a completely consistent character. Go back and re-watch the OT, then TLJ again.

Better than the prequels, or Rogue One (zombie Tarkin). 🙁

Only one of the 4 that he actually directed was a truly GREAT movie. Kershner and Marquand deserve more credit.
