maybe the answer really is that not enough girls don’t love this movie that much and even if they do that they don’t really want the dolls associated with a movie like Star Wars. Its not failing for no reason and its not really a secret or a mystery as to why.

So many people keep saying that their daughters love the new movies and love Rey and Rose, but it’s not correlating with figure and merchandise sales.
Disney needs to try and find out WHY this is the case. Even stuff aimed at girls ala Forces of Destiny flopped.

Somewhere there is a disconnect between all these girls who love Rey and Star Wars merchandise not selling.

Exactly right. The new movies were terrible and won’t create a fandom among kids–who wants to play with Luke “Suicide/Seppuku” Skywalker or Boulders Rey? The older fans are ticked off because of TLJ’s betrayal of the Star Wars mythos and its character assassination of Luke. And all that’s left are some millennial fans who are probably divided over the film. Meanwhile, in the toy industry, the quality of the toys have diminished (5 POA, etc) as prices rise steeply. And then…there’s Rose…there’s always Rose. What’s to like?

I think its harder for kids to have imaginative adventures with dead characters, probably why the RO toy didn’t go over well with kids in general.

Action figure sales are down again for 2017. We’re almost back to 2013 levels (where action figure sales had their absolute low in the past decade) and this with movies supporting the toyline.
Shelf space for Star Wars toys is being reduced (there’s actually a statistic tracking shelf space).
An article on the WSJ website says that TLJ fell short of expectations by some 200 million USD. TLJ actually had a rather average performance (compared to TFA and RO) ever since that first weekend, and it is being outpaced by Rogue One in January. Call it backlash, call it fatigue, in the end it all means people have less interest in Star Wars.

Now the FOD line seems to be dead. But the show never really found lots of viewers online, some of the latest episodes had merely 10% of the views of the pilot episode.

Maybe it’s all too much, too much Star Wars in too little time. Oversaturation. And maybe, just maybe, the new managment over at Lucasfilm is looking for potential customers where there are none or only very few.
Also, look at the piles of Rose figures at retail. A figure that looks like the actor, which is well made, but which is utterly boring, unexciting and doesn’t inspire most to pick her up and play with her. One might get the impression that some toys were made not for the people who buy action figures, but for the people on Twitter who love hashtags – but never actually buy anything.

Another toy industry analyst says that in 10-15 years action figures might be a collectible only bought by adults, that the whole industry will lose kids. The trend is already here, more and more adults buying action figures has been a thing for a few years now.
Maybe Hasbro & Co should try to get the most out of the people actually buying stuff, for as long as they can.
You can’t fault them for trying to gain new customers. But when you look at Star Wars only two things have really had success over the years: 3.75 in action figures and 6 in action figures. Most other attempts at creating something new and winning over kids has failed miserably. FOD now being one of those things.

We have no plans to do special runs on these at this time, but we fully plan to support and add every item Hasbro produces for the American non-exclusive marketplace. We just added another one this morning.

I presume it was due to the whole #WHERESREY fiasco. But even if she were underproduced…she still doesn’t seem to move like AT ALL.

Did too many people think she was Rey in a different outfit? Was it because she died after one film and had almost no character development in the one film she was in? Is this the reason why Cassian still clogs shelves as well?

In my opinion, she had a boring set of wardrobe options. I know the browns and grays aesthetic worked for the seriousness of the movie but she just doesn’t stand out as a toyetic character.
