Well that’s kinda my point….I raise my points and don’t need to convince others of what I see–that’s kinda the point of a good debate, which is never tedious or superficial—its called a dialogue, and I don’t mind having one with the Disney apologists here.

A good rule of thumb is to avoid tying your fandom into your identity. This stuff is meant to entertain us, not structure our sense of worth around.

Let folks enjoy what they want while you dislike what you do, and cut it with the “There can only be one kid of fan” type of fan who ruins everything for everyone. It’s tedious and superficial.

corellia was the planet where the speeder chase was going on, in the lego sets (of the speeders, with the same background we seen in the trailers) one of the minifigures was called a corellian hound which implies that the speeder chase planet is corellia

FA and TLJ are co-conspirators in the death of Luke as a character, yes absolutely they both had that problem and I had that problem with FA too at the time. Its just…TLJ cements it and offers no excuse other than Luke not only failed, but he just gave up. He just…died, inside.

RO’s aliens felt natural and SW in-universe to me, FA and TLJ contrived (like that weird pajama red pirate?). Its a hard thing to get right, actually.

Ultimately, for me, a new Falcon will work only as well as any other story element. If the writers for this film are strong, they will find a compelling reason that feels natural and fits with the rest of the story. If they are hack writers, the reasons will feel contrived and pull the viewer out of the film.

I personally haven’t read any EU Solo stories (except those old Bantham stories, which I barely remember), so I don’t have any expectations other than the official cannon of the OT.

I certainly have some sympathy with the art departments of these films. It must be difficult to please everyone. As an audience member, I want to see something fresh and new, yet somewhat familiar without being a carbon copy of what we’ve seen before, and that must be a hard line to tow. I think RO did a great job of balancing those expectations. Someone like Edrio Two Tubes was brand new, never before seen, but you look at him and say, “Of course he lives in the SW universe.”

It may still show us a gritty, seedier side to the galaxy, a clean new Falcon doesn’t necessarily speak to the contrary.
I also hope this movie has a more dented look, and the retro clunky beater of a speeder he drives points in that direction.

This is the most intelligent (and one of the few) responses I’ve had here. I agree with what you have written, but I think for audiences it was jarring as the stately and art deco style wasn’t thought of as Star Wars. But makes perfect sense within the storyline. Solo had a chance to return to the dirty, gritty, underbelly of the SW universe, but with a clean Falcon and this trailer, I am not quite seeing it. I kind of like Han’s throw back speeder, but I don’t get making the Falcon new for a Solo film which should be an underbelly story. I know that Lucas had planned to do a noir tv series featuring the various levels of Coruscant and that they got as far as story treatments for that cancelled TV show. I wondered what became of those story treatments? Saw Gerrera/Che Guevara was one of the characters from that cancelled treatment.
