We are starting to really see the benefit that photo-real technology has on bringing realism to some classic characters,  such as Luke Skywalker.  The facial features on these figures compared to older counterparts is stunning.

And as we know, Hasbro has dug into the same well over and over many times through the years… and as long as the figures have been improvements over previous versions, many of us have  happily purchased the product (nearly the same product as before).

Here we are in 2019… many of us have been invested in the modern hobby for 20+ years…  so, how many characters do you want to see Hasbro visit again with photo-real?  Are you willing to jump back into the prequels again with a Chancellor Palpatine, Padme, etc?  Or just OT classics like Luke and Han Solo?  Or not at all?

Personal Note:  I’m in it for the long haul.  I’ll purchase nearly any 3.75″ product that is an upgrade over the older version… especially for the OT era.  And I guess sequel era too, I just don’t have room for much prequel stuff anymore.   Older versions of figures go into my custom fodder supplies.

Back in October 2018, Hasbro announced that 5 previously released TVC figures would be reissued in the Vintage Collection with Photo Real paint applications and of those 5, only Boba Fett has been MIA. After a bit of research today, I managed to find a listing stating that the updated Boba Fett (VC09) will be in a case assortment (after waves 6 & 7) and packed with carry forwards of Chewbacca, R2-D2 and the Stormtrooper.

As with any rumor, it is subject to change and/or cancellation by the manufacturer.

As we all know, Hasbro will be issuing several repacks in both the retail line of Vintage Collection but also as specialty market exclusives. This is great for the collector that didn’t get in on the ground floor of TVC and for those who don’t wish to pay exorbitant prices on some of those sought after figures and vehicles.

That being said, there are a few new things to look forward to as well. (Caveat: when I say “new things” that doesn’t necessarily mean all-new or never offered before.) From what our Yarkora spies have gathered, there will be a couple releases that should provide support to those Great Pit of Carkoon dioramas we’re actively trying to fill out. When the HasLab Jabba’s Sail Barge set sail for production, Hasbro undoubtedly had bantha-sized plans in the wings for what collectors would obviously need to make any such scene complete. While specifics are triple-guarded at this time, one could surmise we’ll see some of those complementary 3.75″ items back out to retail throughout 2019 in that nostalgic packaging we all love.

As for non-barge related items, Hasbro has been hinting in interviews that they’re looking at getting the X-wing back out in TVC packaging. The last time we got one was the Toys”R”US exclusive Red 3 (aka. Biggs Darklighter) version back in 2013. It remains to be seen if the 2019 release will include a pilot (like the 2018 TIE Fighter) or if we’ll see one released in one of those coveted TVC carded slots.
