Here is some news on the upcoming Hologram figures from the Ep I line.
\nMaul and Qui-Gon are being made into hologram figures. Supposedly they will come on a base of some kind which would think is the holoprojector. Qui-Gon is a deep blue with his hands on his belt. Maul has his arms crossed with a greenish blue color. Both have no articulation at all. Thanks to Darth Bane for the news.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to a phone rep at Hasbro, the Theed Hanger Playset hasaccidentally<\/b>\u00a0been released. They had a production problem and accidentally released the ALMOST completed hangers. They were finishing the flaws (I. E. Doors, playset base). Note the CORRECTED hangers will be plentiful before THANKSGIVING.<\/span><\/p>\n

Queen’s Ship OUT NOW!!<\/b>

Dai Shan Reports from The ILM show in NYC<\/b>

It was pretty damn cool. We were in a small theater and they had a digital projector showing footage that the ILM guys brought with them.<\/p>\n

Dennis Muren and Rob Coleman were there, but due to illness and a family emergency, Scott Squires and John Knoll were not there. Dennis presented Scott’s portion while Rob presented Johns video.<\/span><\/p>\n

Basically what we saw was how they made different scenes and characters digitally step-by-step. It was really fascinating to watch them explain everything. Here’s some interesting highlights from it:<\/span><\/p>\n

-We got to see scenes half done or crudely done and how they took shape into the final scene.<\/span><\/p>\n

-Rob mentioned that George had EVERYTHING planned out. He told a story that when one of the ILM guys asked who an alien was, George told him his name, what planet he came from, that he was a good Pod Racer, had won the race 3 times previously but was a Challenger in the Boonta Race, etc… etc… Rob said they were amazed at how much back story everything has.<\/span><\/p>\n

-Rob also mentioned when they met with George initially he would run over everything he wanted from storyboards…there were literally thousands of story boards mounted on 4ft. x 5ft. squares of foam core………there were 10 rows and 10 columns of the foam core squares…..and the ILM guys would have to gather as much info. as they could. One story he had was an ILM guy asking him..”Uh George, it looks like those aliens on the battlefield with the robots look different.” and George would say, “Oh yeah there’s 26 differnet Gungan races” and the ILM guy would have to furiously scribble, “26 races….”<\/span><\/p>\n

-The hardest part for ILM to create was clothing for the digital characters and how to create physics for the Pod Race.<\/span><\/p>\n

-To better understand the physics of the Pod Racing scene, George sent ILM a video full of car racing accidents and crashs.<\/span><\/p>\n

-ILM used SoftImage to create the animation and Maya for other things, but had to write their own program for doing realistic digital clothing.<\/span><\/p>\n

-After meeting with George, Rob said that ILM had 2 lists. One list of things they knew they could do (which he showed by holding his two fingers apart an inch)…and a list of things they had no idea how they were going to do..(which he showed by holding his hands about 3 feet apart).<\/span><\/p>\n

-We saw the deleted scene of Brian Blessed (the actual guy) saying the line, “He will be puuunished. Pummeled unto death.” Quite a bit more graphic fate for Jar Jar. By the way I’m not sure if Pummeled was the actual word he said, but it was close to that.<\/span><\/p>\n

-They showed footage of Ewan McGregor slowly turning his head around 360 degrees with a stern Jedi expression on which they used as source material for replaceing the stunt doubles faces with the actual actors. They showed the same for Liam Neeson. What was funny is that Ewan 3\/4 of the way through the turn lost his composure and started laughing and had to visably regain composure. That didn’t happen to Liam. \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n

-They also showed some sketch art they used as reference.<\/span><\/p>\n

-I managed to take a dozen or so pictures, but with the presentation being on video it was hard to capture some of the images as they went by to quickly. Also there was just too many images i’ve never seen before and I had to pick and choose which ones to photograph and which ones to pass up. Made me wish I had a video camera. \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n

-Rob also mentioned that they did not receive a script from George yet on Episode 2 but should be soon.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

-ILM is currently reading scripts and talking with Directors on new products while they wait for Episode 2.<\/span><\/p>\n

-Dennis Muren says he’s really looking forward to his next project which will be the next Jurassic Park movie. He said a script is being finished.<\/span><\/p>\n

-They estimated that if they tried to make Episode I 3 years ago (1997) with the lack of technology they have now, it would’ve cost about\u00a01 Billion<\/b>\u00a0to make.<\/span><\/p>\n

Well that’s about it. I should have some of the pictures back to me by the end of the week with the rest 2 or 3 weeks later.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hasbro Reissuing “Aliens” Toys As Episode I?<\/b>

Dan sent in this observation he has about the Skeeto toy pictured\u00a0here<\/a>with Obi-Wan. “Take a look at the head of the “Skeeto”. Do you recognize it? As a fan of the old “Aliens” (from Kenner) line from a few years back, I recognized it the second I saw it. It’s a modified head from the “Snake Alien” figure released in the second year of the line.They omitted the turning joint on the bottom (that attatched to the Snake’s neck) and modified the back of the head so it attatches to the neck\/back of the Skeeto.It even retains the attack feature of the original (the inner jaw slides out and the large fangs on either side of the head go up and snap back down). Look along the center line of the head and you’ll see the activator tab and the channel through which it moves forward.”<\/span><\/p>\n

My thoughts on this is it could be a mockup prototype for pre-release photos, but then again Hasbro\/Kenner is notorious for reusing parts from other toys, just look at the entire Batman line! I also don’t remember seeing the Skeeto in Episode 1, could it be another made up toy like the Laser Pod minirig?<\/span><\/p>\n

B-Wing in 2000!!<\/b>

Cool news from\u00a0The Outer Rim<\/a>. A new Episode I cinema scene has been discovered AND confirmed. Tomy (Japanese toy distributor for Hasbro) has confirmed this new Episode 1 cinema scene (includes Boss Nass, Amidala and Padme) and the release date for Japan is the October 23. Also confirmed by Tomy is a new 12″ “Return to Naboo” Amidala doll due out in Japan on October 16. So far, Japan is only scheduled for the cinema scene and doll, but my guess is America will eventually get it.<\/span><\/p>\n
