{"id":15490,"date":"2014-01-23T20:21:59","date_gmt":"2014-01-24T02:21:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yakfaceforums.com\/main\/?p=15490"},"modified":"2014-01-23T20:22:19","modified_gmt":"2014-01-24T02:22:19","slug":"why-the-figure-subscription-model-should-be-avoided","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yakfaceforums.com\/main\/2014\/01\/23\/why-the-figure-subscription-model-should-be-avoided\/","title":{"rendered":"Why the Figure Subscription Model Should Be Avoided"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yakfaceforums.com\/main\/2014\/01\/23\/why-the-figure-subscription-model-should-be-avoided\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15492\" alt=\"hasbro_mattyshop\" src=\"https:\/\/yakfaceforums.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/hasbro_mattyshop1.jpg\" width=\"274\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For a long time now, <em>Star Wars<\/em> collectors have rightfully complained about the distribution and availability of figures at retail &#8212; the ones they want to buy any way &#8212; and have suggested that Hasbro, through their website, offer a subscription service in the vein of what Mattel does with their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mattycollector.com\/store\/matty\/DisplayHomeOffersPage#.UuHLXHl6hUM\">Matty Collector<\/a> programs.\u00a0If there has ever been a clearer example of why this should be <strong>AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS<\/strong> I haven&#8217;t seen it.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Mattel and Matty Collector <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/notes\/mattycollectorcom\/dc-universe-mattycollectorcom-2014-update\/10151984092993401\">released a statement<\/a>\u00a0via Facebook that due to being unable to meet minimum subscription requirements, a certain character won&#8217;t be released as intended and will now be a SDCC &#8217;14 exclusive &#8211; and we all know how easy those are to pick up right?<\/p>\n<p>Also of interest in this article is that Mattel will be moving away from selling ultra-articulated (Black Series-style) 6&#8243; figures at retail due to rising manufacturing costs. As a replacement, they will offer a <strong><em>Total Heroes<\/em><\/strong> 6&#8243; line with\u00a0reduced articulation (sound eerily familiar?) and offer <strong><em>Total Heroes Ultra<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0super-articulated companion figures via Matty Collector via\u00a0<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">subscription only<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I urge that those whom wish Hasbro adopt this type of service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/notes\/mattycollectorcom\/dc-universe-mattycollectorcom-2014-update\/10151984092993401\"><strong>read the article<\/strong><\/a> from Mattel and be convinced that subscription-based releases can only mean one thing&#8230; frustration.
