Off Topic
March 31, 2006 | 5:25 PM EST | Mark

Hey all you Yak Readers. I am trying to complete my Star Wars room, and in doing so, I noticed I have a couple of holes in my collection. I am looking for two unleashed figures. The Boba Fett (not the one with Jango) and the stormtrooper. I dont care about condition of the card as they are going to be ripped open, unless I get loose ones already. If you have an extra of either of these, please shoot me an email and let me know how much you want for it or if there is something that you are looking for yourself. Thank you, and now back to the news… Mark

The End of SirStevesGuide.com???
March 30, 2006 | 12:10 AM EST | Jayson

After 10+ years of Star Wars news, Steve from sirstevesguide.com will be leaving the site he founded to create and maintain his new site:Stevesguide.com. This new site with not only cover Star Wars collectibles but many other toy lines as well.

Here is his statement that was posted last week:

“I am sad to say that due to irreconcilable differences between myself and ACTION Online (who hosts and owns the domain), I have to part with my own creation, “SirStevesGuide.com”. I started the site back in 1995 as a collector and joined with ACTION Online in 1999, who now owns all the rights to it (it was the best decision at the time to keep the site going). SirStevesGuide.com has always been a team effort from fellow collectors, the staff, the mods and I appreciate all the support I have received over the years. This is not the end of “SirSteve”, just the end of me running “SirStevesGuide.com”. I will be starting a new site devoted to everything Action Figures and Collectibles rather than just Star Wars and run by collectors, for collectors. I have no idea what is to become of the domain “SirStevesGuide.com” or who will be running it (if anyone). I know I have not been the most active “forum” user but maintaining the site takes a lot of time. I have done everything from the graphics, web design, content, photography and so on which take a great deal of time. That’s why I have trusted staff members to take care of the forums. I hate for it to come down like this but it will be for the best in the end. I have met a lot of great people while doing this and I would not trade it for anything.

My official last day will be April 15th. Look for the new site at StevesGuide.com that will launch April 16th at 12:01 am EST and I will see you there!”

Good luck Steve on your new venture.

Target Under Cuts Wal-Mart Prices?
March 29, 2006 | 12:48 AM EST | Bill

Well that’s the case at Yak Reader Rosemaster’s local store. Here’s the report:

Last Saturday I found the latest wave of basic figures at a Target in the St. Louis area. They had all the basic figures marked down from $6.99 to $6.64. Don’t know if this is widespread or just for this one store, but I was happy.

Star Wars Action News – Episode XXXI
March 28, 2006 | 9:19 AM EST | Scott

Star Wars Action News has been airing weekly for six months now and Arnie and Marjorie have noticed a pattern of questions arriving in their inbox. Questions ranging from “What should I collect” to “How can I best display my collection” have steadily come in over the past months so Marjorie and Arnie are beginning a multi-part series which they call Collecting 101. Whether you’re new to the hobby or an old pro, the hosts of Star Wars Action News should have a new perspective to add.

This week they focus on the question “What should I collect?” which you can download at Review Star Wars.com

In addition, Arnie weighs in on the game Republic Commando for X-Box and Marjorie gives her opinion on the first 67 pages of Vector Prime.

UGH Update
March 28, 2006 | 8:29 AM EST | Mark

Here is some very good info from StarWarsChris.

This has not been confirmed, but is a very good bit of info.

According to my Hasbro spreadsheet there are ONLY 10 UGH figures total and there are 5 different mixes. The UGH are NOT random. The pair of UGH are inserted into the same case depending on the mix. For example When you find Han UGH you will find a Vader UGH. When you find a Scorch UGH you will find a Grievous UGH. etc etc.

Also, each case has 1-2 Hoth Vaders and 1 – 2 Clone Troopers inserted into it. These older wave figures will take away 1 to 2 spots for newer figures. The downside is that you will NOT be able to get a full set of the new wave in one case. In the best case mix you will miss 1 new assortment figure and worst case you will miss 2 new assortment figures. Each missing figure is ONLY missing from one assortment but that figure is inserted into the other 4 assortments. In my opinion Hasbro did a sweet job in designing the 5 assortments for this wave. Each figure is produced in equal quantity and it is a well balanced distribution.

UPDATE YakPoll – More Clones!
March 28, 2006 | 12:36 AM EST | Scott

Raise your hand if you love Clones!

Dang! That’s a lot of hands!

Who the heck doesn’t love Clones? If ROTS taught us anything it’s that Clone Troopers came in a wider variety of flavors than the Cherry, Lemon, Lime and Blueberry of Episode II. Clones come in all shapes, sizes and colors, which almost sounds like an oxymoron doesn’t it?

Anyway, for all the Clone goodies Hasbro has provided us, there’s still a few notable holes to be filled. Which of these four do you most want to see hit the pegs near you next?

Airborne Clone Trooper, Galactic Marine, Commander Neyo or the green-deco Kashyyyk Trooper?

And before you jump up my butt with emails shouting “But Scott! They made a Kashyyyk trooper in that 3-pack months ago!” Yeah, I know but it was a statue! I’m talking a properly articulated version, a-la the current Utapau Trooper. Gree’s gotta command more than a bunch of squatters.

Vote today and let us know what you want.

UPDATE From the ” I coulda sworn it was in there ” files, I removed the green deco’ed trooper from the poll and replaced it with the more appropriate BARC trooper (had trouble finding a pic of this guy). You know, I could’ve sworn to seeing the green guy in there but on reviewing the DVD, it just aint the case. Thanks to the folks who wrote to call me on my error. See, I’m big enough to admit when I’m wrong.

As such, the poll has been reset to reflect the change. If you voted before, maybe it will change the way you vote this time around. Sorry about the confusion guys!

Wal-Mart Catches Up With The Competition
March 28, 2006 | 12:00 AM EST | Bill

Unfortunately, this time it’s not a good thing. As the Bounty Hunt figures are starting to hit, we’ve gotten a number of reports of Wal-Mart raising the price of basic Star Wars figures from $5 and change to $6.63, very close to Target’s $6.99. Hopefully this won’t last, but we all remember that Target raised their prices just before Saga 2 hit the shelves.

YakReader Erik writes in with the report of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Star Wars collection (or part of it at least) up for auction through Morphy auctions. There are some very nice high end vintage items, such as the Sears Cantina Playset, R/C Sandcrawler, Droids Boba Fett MOC, Droids A-Wing and the ROTJ Imperial Shuttle. Revenge of Bounty Hunting: Vintage AT-AT Model
March 25, 2006 | 2:53 PM EST | Keri

Model making and customizing is a large part of my life these days and one way in which I enjoy the hobby of collecting and creating my own Star Wars characters and vehicles. Although Hasbro’s days of making large scale vehicles are over for the most part, people with talent and imagination can make just about anything. A model kit is a great start and today’s auction is for one my favorite vehicles.

The vintage models produced around the release of the Original Trilogy were made by MPC, a division of Kenner which was eventually bought out by Ertl. The line of models were diverse and offered fans a chance to build and paint vehicles, characters and early dioramas from their favorite films. Today’s auction is for an All Terrain Armored Transport complete in the box with instructions never assembled. The box is slightly warped and the shrink wrap plastic has been taken off, but the box is in decent condition.

Click on through below to add this to your customizing fodder box or add to your collection today!

Last Night’s South Park Episode
March 23, 2006 | 3:02 PM EST | Keri

I know that not everyone finds South Park humorous, but last night’s episode featuring Chef’s death had a great ending. If you watch the last couple of minutes after Chef is impaled and torn apart by the lion and grizzly bear, he is then transformed by the Super Adventure Club into Chef Vader complete with a Glowing Red Spatula! The scene really is a classic in my opinion, as the operating table is raised, we see Chef in a black metal suit and the head of the Super Adventure Club asks “Chef..can you hear me?” If you like South Park and want to see a nice parody of ROTS/Vader I urge you to check out a re-airing on Comedy Central.

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: Vintage ANH Poster
March 22, 2006 | 1:10 PM EST | Keri

Please excuse my absence in posting interesting Ebay auctions as I have been not only remodeling my bathroom along with other home improvements, but I have also been slowly unpacking, reorganizing and displaying my Star Wars vintage collection which has been packed away for about 2-3 years now. In any event, I return today with an appropriately nice vintage A New Hope poster with the Revenge of the Jedi tagline at the bottom.

As I reacquaint myself with old friends from my collection, I share Xizor’s passion now more than ever for vintage items. One of my many vintage favorites are original theatrical and promotional posters. Today’s auction is for a very nice A New Hope One Sheet (27″ x 41″) poster from the film’s re-release in 1982 featuring the ‘Style A’ Tom Jung classic art with the Revenge of the Jedi preview stripe at the bottom. I remember begging my parents to see the movie so I could see the Revenge of the Jedi previews and it looked so exciting I couldn’t wait until it came out! Of course we all know the title was eventually changed to Return of the Jedi, but the posters still bear the Revenge title as it was in 1982. The poster in today’s auction is in folded condition with only a small tear on the border edge. The buy it now price is quite reasonable and is in a range that most collectors can afford. Click on through below and add this poster to your collection of wall art before it is gone!

DLR in 06
March 22, 2006 | 1:12 AM EST | Mark B

As you may or may not know, the official Star Wars fan club is holding a contest to see who will be the next fanclub president. One of our online friends over at Rebelscum.com has “officially” thrown in his hat (along with picking R2D2 as his running mate) in an effort to win this contest. In order to win, the person who either signs up the most new or renewals of hyperspace memberships wins. Click on through to Rebelscum.com to check out DLR’s “platform”.

On a personal note, I’ll have to say that Dustin was one of the first guys I ever met in the Star Wars collecting community. He helped me out quite a bit in the early days of my business, and continues to be someone who I would call a friend. He has a true passion for Star Wars and I can think of no one who would make a better fan club president.

1/4 Scale Han Still Available
March 21, 2006 | 5:36 PM EST | Mark B

Han Solo

While most of the focus has been on the 12″ Line from Sideshow, the 1/4 scale has kinda been lost in the news lately. But, I noticed from Sideshow today that the 18″ Han Solo figure is now available as a second chance. This is probably the nicest Han Solo figure that we will EVER see. Click through the banner above and pick one up before they are gone forever!

Star Wars Action News – Episode XXX
March 21, 2006 | 9:31 AM EST | Scott

The entire collecting community was buzzing this week as Toy Fare and Hasbro announced the twenty-five figures the voters wanted most for the latest fan’s choice poll. Given the somewhat shocking nature of the votes (another Darth Maul? another Luke? people really do love the KOTOR video game series, don’t they?) how could anything else be the topic of this week’s Star Wars Action News? Is Arnie excited about Nom Anor? Is Marjorie ready to embrace Expanded Universe figures like Mara Jade? Go to Review Star Wars to find out!

In addition, Marjorie & Arnie will be hosting a collecting panel at the Pittsburgh Comicon on Saturday, April 22nd from 2 to 3 pm and they would love to see you at the con. Full details can be found at Pittsburgh Comic Con

Cool Vintage Customs
March 18, 2006 | 2:22 PM EST | rykrofenloe

Now usually I don’t post ebay auctions, but I just saw these that end in a few hours and as a customizer, I thought they are too cool to not mention. While I’m not a vintage collector, I think these are really well done in the vintage style.

This really looks like one of the better figures Hasbro has made, so if you’re like me and haven’t been lucky enough to find one yet, head on over there and check out their great images of this super-articulated figure.

Here’s A Wabbit That Hunts YOU!
March 17, 2006 | 7:01 PM EST | Scott

If Keri will forgive me for treading on her eBay turf for a moment, I thought I’d throw this one up here.

Yak reader Jeff M. writes in about his auction you fans of the classic Marvel Star Wars Comics are gonna love, we’ll let him tell you about it…

” …just wanted to let you guys know that I’m selling one of my prized posessions, a professionally-commissioned sixth-scale Jaxxon (the Lepus Carnivorus, or Lepi in the current continuity), on eBay to pay for some unexpected medical expenses for my daughter (as well as a lot of other things).

Since one doesn’t often see this guy in figure form, I figured you might find this interesting! ”

Indeed we do! Thanks Jeff! Click on the pic to check out his auction.

How appropriate that Sideshow decides to put our favorite Irish Jedi up for sale on St. Patrick’s Day! So, make sure you put down that Green Beer (or in my case Guinness!) for just a few minutes this morning and pop on over to Sideshow, and with a little Luck of the Irish, you’ll be able to snag one of their exclusive 12″ Qui-Gon Jinn figures. And to make it easier to know exactly when they go on sale, Sideshow has added a countdown clock to their website with the current time in PST. Qui-Gon goes on sale this morning at 10am. ***Update – Exclusive version is sold out – Regular Version still available! And they also have info on the winner of the 10,000th post contest****

UPDATE Yakreader Tony Finds Coruscant Wave
March 16, 2006 | 9:21 AM EST | Jayson

YakReader Tony Wan Kenobi hits paydirt…

Using the DPCI numbers 087-06-0576, got me these at Target! The case was like this 1 Anakin, 1 Grievous, 1 Foul Maudama, 2 Pilot, 1 Cody, 1 Lushros, 1 Holo Ki-Adi, 2 Obi, 2 Clone Troopers. I also saw the Limited Edition Titanium Darth and Fett figures with NO paint at all, they were pewter looking with vader having a soft cape.. They were awesome looking, I’m just not going to collect that line though. I have to limit myself or I will be going broke! – Happy Hunting

Great find Tony and thanks info!

UPDATE: That particular DCPI code is for the entire TSC line so don’t expect to get the Coruscant Wave case if you choose to use it – sorry, for any miscommunication – Jayson

New Scaled Replicas from Master Replicas
March 16, 2006 | 1:19 AM EST | Mark B

I’m a huge fan of the scaled lightsabers from Master Replicas. Not only are they pretty high quality, detailed replicas, they are CHEAP as far as replicas go. At $35 each, they have let me keep a pretty large collection of Master Replicaslightsabers that I just couldn’t afford at $300+ each for the full size replicas. Thursday morning at 10am PST, Master Replicas will start selling their 2 newest in this line – the Empire Strikes Back Luke Skywalker, and Empire Darth Vader. Both look like winners!!

Purple Saber, Purple R2, Purple Starfighter
March 15, 2006 | 11:38 PM EST | Bill

The Official Site has posted an update on a couple of vehicles which we saw at Toy Fair– the Purple Jedi Starfighter, and Vader’s Tie. From the article it appears that both will be general release rather than exclusives, as it says coming late this summer “to a toy store near you”, rather than mentioning a specific store. It also clarifies the question from Toy Fair, the purple ship, with the purple r2 belongs to Shaft, err Mace himself. Click here for more.

Have you seen this poster?
March 15, 2006 | 2:57 PM EST | Jayson

Yakreader Wade has a dilemma. Read on…

My storage unit flooded with all my Star Wars collectables in it and I am trying to submit an insurance claim. I have found prices for everything except this poster. It was given out when the Trilogy was re-release in the early 90’s. I have 20 of these that were destroyed so I am looking for any help to obtain the value. Could you and your web friends help please? It measures 23″W by 31.5″ H.

Thanks – Wade

The word is out Wade good luck.

Toyfare’s Fan’s Choice Poll Is Now Active
March 15, 2006 | 2:04 PM EST | Jayson

Voting is now open for the next Fan Choice figure scheduled to be released in 2007! There are 25 characters to choose from so cast your vote again, to narrow down the list!

May the Choice be with You!

Side note: Now that he’s made an “official” list, I’ll be voting for the “Ice Cream Maker Guy” Willrow Hood. I know it may sound strange, but he has a strong underground following and several fans have signed petitions in previous years to get him realized in all his plastic glory.

I’d like to see an actual character from the films get made.

New YakPoll – The Georgetrooper Mail-A-Way
March 14, 2006 | 9:43 PM EST | Scott

Hasbro has a new mailaway offer on tap for us. In return for hunting down and purchasing all 5 of the upcoming VOTC figures (X-Wing Pilot Luke, Scout Trooper, Greedo, Han In Endor Trenchcoat and Tusken Raider) they willl send you a figure of George Lucas (circa 1977 headsculpt) as a Stormtrooper.

So, our question is. Will this be worth all the time, money and/or gas you’ll have to invest to get one? OR Do you feel this is a poor excuse for a mailaway offer and you’ll be passing on it?

Let us know, vote now!

Star Wars Action News – Episode XXIX
March 14, 2006 | 12:27 AM EST | Scott

This week Star Wars Action News is back, and with more T & A (and we don’t mean Toys and Action Figrues)! Marjorie is concerned with the announcement of the Animated Style Princess Leia statue and the high demand for the “Snow Bunny” Padme statue that Star Wars is becoming sullied, while Arnie suggests a Slave Leia and Oola mini-bust be added to the Gentle Giant line. The conversation then devolves into cross-dressing Rodians. Follow the stream of consciousness to reviewstarwars.com!

After that their reviews continue as Arnie received the Code 3 Republic Gunship this week that YOU LISTENERS chose for him to buy. Now that he owns it does he agree with your decision? Listen as Marjorie and Arnie give their take on the only prequel offering from Code 3’s vehicle line.

Our contest with Wattographs for Mas Amedda Action Figures signed by the actor David Bowers is still underway, you can find complete details at reviewstarwars.com. In addition, we are still slowly climbing the ranks at Podcast Alley. If you haven’t voted yet this month, please help us out by visiting Podcast Alley.com and casting a vote for us! You’ll earn our undying gratitude.

Thank you for listening and we hope you enjoy the show.

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: Vintage Micro Snowspeeder
March 10, 2006 | 3:12 PM EST | Keri

Although I am not collecting the new smaller Unleashed Battle Packs, I cannot deny the fact that the upcoming Hoth sets remind me of the vintage Kenner Micro Collection. Today’s Bounty Hunting spotlight turns onto an auction for an exclusive Snowspeeder.

In 1982, Kenner launched the Micro Collection, a line of small die cast painted vehicles as well as figures that fit into small plastic dioramas recreating memorable scenes from A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. The line was not a huge success and other planned playsets were subsequently cancelled. Today’s auction is for an JCPenney’s exclusive Snowspeeder, complete with 2 pilots. More often than not, most Micro Collection vehicles are loose and the paint chipped. Today’s auction has the box and although the stickers have been applied to the Snowspeeder, all the cardboard packing, catalogs and plastic bags are present. This is a nice example of a harder to find Micro Collection vehicle exclusive at a great price. Click on through below to add it to your collection today!

Attakus Falcon / Death Star Diorama
March 9, 2006 | 11:53 AM EST | Scott

It’s a pretty safe bet that the words; ” Holy Crap!! ” or some variation thereof, will be the first words out of your mouth when you behold this mammoth diorama that Attakus is currently working on…

Bear in mind that the pewter figures you see in the photo above are roughly the same scale as Hasbro’s figure line………

…….yeah, my thoughts exactly.

While this magnificent piece will probably be prohibitively expensive (To illustrate, the Vader figure alone is $90.99 purchased separately at the Star Wars shop), you can read a detailed history of the construction of it over at theofficial site. They also announce that Attakus’ next diorama will be of the classic Dagobah Swamp scene from ESB. It all has to be seen to be believed. Click the image for the full article.

Lando Arrested
March 8, 2006 | 5:03 PM EST | Scott

Not a joke, not a hoax, This article appeared in the Poughkeepsie Journal this afternoon. Apparently ‘ol Lando has hit hard times since his glory days with the Rebellion and has resorted to some pretty shady dealings.

Click the link, third paragraph down.

Naboo Royal Starship Attacks Hoth???
March 8, 2006 | 1:17 PM EST | Jayson

From Yakreader b-wan

I was reading the stats on the back of my new Titanium Naboo Royal Starship under “Model” category it states: “Used on Hoth against Rebel Alliance”!!!

I figured it was an error so I looked at the AT-AT from the previous wave. Under “Notable Battle” it states the same thing! “Used on Hoth against Rebel Alliance” (This time it makes much more sense).

Has Hasbro caught this error? Have I stumbled across a true Galactic Hunt?

b-wan from Chico, CA

No, not a Galactic Hunt, but another Hasbro Galactic Error. Nice catch though.

New Deposit Ordering Option At The Saber Vault
March 7, 2006 | 8:56 PM EST | Bill

Now you don’t have to pay the full cost of your props at The Saber Vault when you place your order! You can pay a deposit at the time of ordering, and then pay the balance before the prop ships. Here’s their new deposit ordering information:

NEW DEPOSIT OPTION!

Your requests have been heard, so now there is a new feature to TSV and that is the deposit option. This gives you the choice if you’d like to pay in full (you’ve got the money now and want it taken care of) you can! OR if you don’t have all the money now, or you just don’t want to pay in full at the moment, you can make a deposit on the item.

How does this work? On pre-orders only, you’ll see two ‘ADD TO CART’ buttons. One will be marked with the full ‘shipped’ price, and the other will have the deposit price. Each button coincides with the price next to it. Just click it like you would to purchase the item and then ‘checkout’. The balance is due when the items are shipped to TSV.

What A Piece Of Junk!
March 7, 2006 | 8:52 PM EST | Bill

The Official Site has added a detailed article on Attakus’ efforts to bring the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy to life as never before. Whether you have an extra five feet of display space (that’s right 5 FEET) of extra display space of not, this story is one you won’t want to miss. Check it out here.

More Titanium Figure Reports
March 7, 2006 | 9:05 AM EST | Jayson

“I wanted to let you guys know that yesterday I had to go to Lake Charles, LA. I stopped by the Toys R Us there and found the Titanium Figures wave, but the surprise was that there were the Limited Edition Silver Vader and Boba Fett. These are pretty sweet. The Toys R Us around the Houston area were I live had nothing but the others. I looked on ebay and there not listed either, only the regular Titanium. I don’t know how rare they are but I’m glad I picked them up.

Thanks, Eric

Star Wars Action News – Episode XXVIII
March 7, 2006 | 8:30 AM EST | Scott

This week Arnie and Marjorie are high on Tab Energy Drink as they review the new Titanium figures and answer some buring questions: Which actor’s head is under the Darth Vader helmet? What’s up with the glass jar to keep them under? Find out how the detail and articulation compare to the Hasbro line and more! They also take a look at the new Scorch figure. He’s a hot figure and is flying off of the shelf. Is he worth the hunt?

Arnie has undertaken a crusade this week. At WonderCon Steve Sansweet announced that there will NOT be “Ultimate Edition” soundtracks for Episodes II and III. Not one to take things lying down, Arnie has written a letter to Sony Classical asking them to reconsider, and he urges you to also e-mail them at feedback@sonyclassical.com and tell them you too would purchase the Ultimate Edition soundtracks if released. UPDATE: DCPI for Titanium Figures
March 5, 2006 | 10:25 PM EST | Jayson

For those who use those nifty Target DCPI codes, here is the latest one I’ve found after picking up the new Vader and Fett Titanium Forged figures. It is 087-06-1622 and look for an update to the toyguide later this week with the photos.

Plus the Demise for General Grievous DCPI code (087-06-0781) now shows in the Target price check stations, but not in stock, Yet.

UPDATE: Upon further inspection of the Titanium figure packaging, I noticed an error on the bottom of the box involving the P.O.P. info. They are both labeled as Titanium Series Star Wars Darth Vader, but have different SKU numbers.

YakPoll – High End Gear
March 5, 2006 | 1:20 PM EST | Scott

You know, Hasbro ain’t the only game in town folks. And if you’ve got the coin, there’s some pretty nifty swag to be had out there.

From Master Replicas outstanding prop reproductions (my personal fave), to Sideshow Collectibles white-hot 12″ and Premium Format figures, not to mention Code 3’s beautifully sculpted 3-D posters and die-cast vehicles, and of course Gentle Giant’s mini busts and statues.

So YakPoll asks, which of the 4 companies listed makes the coolest gear? Even if it’s all too rich for your blood, who would you most likely focus on if you could afford it?

Make your voice heard, vote now!

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: Fox Records Vader Mylar Poster
March 4, 2006 | 4:08 PM EST | Keri

A large part of my own personal collection is original theatrical and promotional vintage and modern Star Wars posters. As a matter of fact, I collected movie posters from other films several years before I started buying Star Wars items in the early 90’s. Today’s auction is for a vintage mylar promotional poster from 20th Century Fox Records.

Many collectors are familiar with the advance mylar poster from 1976 which was quite plain and simply had the “ponity W” logo and Coming Next Summer printed on it in shiny silver commonly known as mylar. While the advance mylar poster is a true rarity, today’s auction features a more attainable mylar poster. Used for advertising in record stores of the day in 1977, this poster’s design was simple and to the point with the central image of Vader against a silvery star field along with the familiar Star Wars logo at the top. This particular poster isn’t commonly seen today and the condition is very nice. When collecting posters, look for them in rolled state, rather than folded if possible. Tackholes or pinholes can be common at the corners as well as tears, and tape stains from being pasted or tacked to a wall. Today’s poster up for auction is rolled and appears to be virtually unused which is a big plus. This is a poster design not often seen and would make a nice addition to any wall or collection!

I’ve mentioned here before that I’m rapidly becoming a fan of the series Firefly after seeing the movie Serenity. So, I was excited to pass along this deal I ran across at Amazon this morning. You can get the entire series of Firefly on DVD for under $20! People have emailed me for and against this series. But, all I will say is “give it a chance”, and at this price you can! If you add on another $5 to your order at Amazon you get free shipping too. Click the link above to order.

****Update, looks like Amazon has raised the price another $5, which is still a great deal on this set – but congrats to everyone who was able to order for under $20!****

Geonosis Wave at Walgreens
March 1, 2006 | 8:30 PM EST | rykrofenloe

After work I had to stop by a St. Louis area Walgreens to pick up some medicine, and to my surprise this is what I found hanging in the toy aisle –

Walgreens stores usually don’t get in full cases of figures – their distribution centers break up the cases and send each store in their district only 1-3 figures at a time. Finding this lone Clone was kind of lucky, I went to four more Walgreens stores afterwards and all I saw was one lone Sneak Preview Wookiee Warrior. Might still be worth your time to stop by a Walgreens, you never know what you might find.

Lucas Arts Lego II Update
March 1, 2006 | 8:07 PM EST | Bill

This just in from Lucas Arts:

Improving a Surprise Hit

In April 2005, LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game Force-pushed its way onto store shelves everywhere to prove itself one of gaming’s most pleasant surprises of the year – and one of its biggest hits. Now at over 3.3 million copies sold worldwide (and still going strong), NPD Group’s No. 13 bestseller of 2005 has delighted gamers young and old with its unique mix of tongue-in-cheek humor and interplanetary adventure. Hot off the game’s amazing success, developer Traveller’s Tales and its parent company TT Games have joined forces with LucasArts to release LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy for multiple platforms* this fall. And with several notable improvements to an already stellar formula, there’s a lot more to love about this sequel.

“There are so many things that are better, it’s hard to quantify,” says David Perkinson, producer at LucasArts. Perkinson cites his favorite improvements as the extended role of vehicles (including playable mini-kits), customizable characters, a better camera, player-specific attacks (including new Force powers), a greater number of weapons, and an adaptive difficulty setting. All while retaining the original charm that so characterized the first LEGO Star Wars.

“We will be retaining all of the gameplay features from the first game and adding plenty more!” enthuses Tom Stone, director at TT Games. “There’s a lot that worked well in the original game, such as the character animations, the ‘drop in/drop out’ two-player feature, the general pace, collection of studs and characters, and so on. However, we have spent a lot of time improving the vehicle levels – you’ll be very pleased when you see what you can do with the X-wing and TIE fighters on the Death Star!”

Perkinson agrees that “the reworked vehicles levels are a huge improvement. Giving the player the opportunity to wander freely throughout vehicle levels is a great change, as is including vehicles and creatures that any non-droid character can build and ride through certain on-foot levels. And character customization is another fantastic addition. Players will finally be able to create their own Star Wars character and bring it into the LEGO Star Wars world!” Perkinson and Stone promise to delve even further into the subjects of vehicles and character customization in the months to come.

Perkinson is also excited about LEGO Star Wars II’s improved camera. “When playing in co-op, the camera will now pull farther back to allow the two players greater separation from one another,” he says. “We received a lot of feedback from gamers saying that while they liked co-op play, they wished that they were allowed more freedom to fight and explore. With the new co-op camera, they can do that. We’re still looking into other ways to further improve the camera, as well.”

Another common sentiment of both consumers and critics was the desire for a sequel set in the Original Trilogy era. Now they have it, and Stone couldn’t be happier. “There are lots of well known scenes and action that we can have fun with,” he says. “There are also fewer Jedi, of course, so the other characters all need to step up in their abilities to help defeat the Empire. That said, we’ve added a new ‘building’ feature for all non-Jedi characters. Of course, Jedi like Obi-Wan still have the Force at their disposal.”

In fact, the Force and other abilities have been expanded upon in a character-specific manner for LEGO Star Wars II. “We’ve worked hard to bring out the distinctive individual personalities of all those great Original Trilogy characters – and that’s given us lots of cool new moves,” says Stone. “So, as you’d hope, the Emperor now has a Force lightning attack, Vader has his Force choke, Han’s got some athletic blaster combat moves, and Chewie’s got a signature melee attack – he pulls arms out of sockets!”

In order to greater challenge hardcore gamers, LEGO Star Wars II will include an optional adaptive difficulty feature that, based on players’ actions, “knows” how good they are, which accordingly affects how hard things get. “When switched on, the game will begin at the base level of difficulty and ramp up as the player succeeds,” Perkinson explains. “The opposing AI will become more aggressive, harder to destroy and more accurate with their fire as the user improves.”

“We were surprised and, of course, delighted that the original game was played and enjoyed by so many people,” says Stone. “And with all of the new improvements and features along with the Original Trilogy we’re implementing into LEGO Star Wars II, we’re confident that the new game has what it takes to entertain even more gamers than before.”

NEXT MONTH: “All the Characters in the Galaxy”
