Attention Variation Hunters
May 31, 2006 | 7:49 PM EST | Bill
While the newest Tatooine wave includes six “new” or recarded figures, there are 4 figures which were released in the Saga Collection earlier this year– Snowtrooper, Commander Cody, Firespeeder Pilot, and Lushros Dofine– which are also shipping in it. Here’s the catch, this wave marks the introduction of the red hologram figures. Each of these four which appeared earlier in the Saga Collection, now sports a spiffy RED hologram instead of the blue ones they shipped with earlier!

Be sure to say “hi” to us if you see us at the museum opening, we may have special prmotional materials to give away! As for this week’s show: this week we have a guest reviewer, Chris Tellez, provide a first hand review of the Sideshow Luke 12-inch figure. These have sold out but you may be able to pick one up on eBay. Chris thinks Sideshow has really done wonders with the 12-inch. Listen this week to see if this is something you want in your collection.
Also this week on Star Wars Action News Marjorie and Arnie provide an epilogue to the Collecting 101 series, no matter what your collection is, be proud of it. We hope that you enjoyed this series on the basics of collecting. There will be more collecting series that will focus on specifics lines. Donít forget the store reports! We’ve got the latest store finds from all over including Scott From Tulsa’s trip to Vegas. What item did he bring home with home that is round and made of resin? Download this week’s show to find out. Don’t miss Jakob’s segment this week. This month Jakob ponders what would happen if Disney took over the Star Wars franchise.
Star Wars Action News is also starting a book club! Members of the Star Wars Action News book club will read the books together and discuss the books in the Star Wars Action News forums. Registration is now open to join us in reading the first Star Wars novel ever–Star Wars by George Lucas. You can join by visiting our forums!
Finally, one prize has remained unclaimed from our contest with Yakface and Mini-Mag stands. As such, a new winner has been chosen. Is it you? The only way to win is to listen and answer a trivia question (the question isn’t hard; the answer is somewhere in this show!) The new winner has two weeks to contact us to claim their prize, so good luck! Happy Memorial Day, and we’ll be back next week!
30th Anniversary Tin Collector’s Set?
May 29, 2006 | 12:13 PM EST | rykrofenloe
Our friends at Rebelscum are reporting that Hasbro will be offering 2-pks similar to the old Kenner 2-pks that were released at the end of the Return Of The Jedi line. It looks like these will each include two VSTC figures (and who knows, maybe some VOTC repacks?) and will be released this Fall, in two waves.
Stay on Target…

Want more VOTC Stormtroopers?
May 28, 2006 | 3:03 AM EST | rykrofenloe
I find myself always wanting more of these troopers, and decided to experiment with some H2O satin white spray paint on an Evolutions Sandtrooper, and after being very patient with it (spray from a distance, let it dry, and repeat over and over), and then detailing the black parts of outfit with black paint, I now have another VOTC-esque Stormtrooper to add to my ranks.
So if you are frustrated with trying to find more VOTC Stormtroopers for your army and don’t want to pay the high prices they are going for on the secondary markets now, and you have an extra Evolutions Sandtrooper, it may be worth your while to give this a shot.
Customizing Spotlight – In Progress Senate Diorama
May 28, 2006 | 2:23 AM EST | rykrofenloe
I never thought I’d see someone putting together such a large Senate scene, but Yak reader and well known customizer in the community, New_Bornalex is doing just that, and he has this pic showing an idea of how big his Senate diorama will be.
We all could use some free figures and joke around about it, but if anyone does want to donate any loose extra Senator figures, custom Senators, parts for custom Senators, random parts, and/or unwanted pods, you can email himHERE.
I know I will be sending a couple things his way as I think this is going to be a very unique project and would love to say I helped in it. When this project is finished, we’ll have a new pic or to show you, and for all of us to admire!
2 Words – IN CREDIBLE
May 27, 2006 | 8:49 AM EST | Mark B
That’s the only thing I can use to describe the new Sideshow General Grevious 1/4 scale figure. This thing puts the Darth Vader (which is AMAZING) to shame. This following week I hope to put together a detailed review with some photos to compare the two and some pictures of it alongside my iMac to let you see just how BIG this statue really is. Let’s just say its easy to imagine this THING kicking some serious Jedi behindside…..
There’s just one way you can still pick one up (besides a few small retailers) – Sideshow is completely sold out of them – but they are IN STOCK atStarWarsShop.com (Take a look under “Statues” on their menu on the left!)

Star Wars Action News – Episode XXXIX
May 23, 2006 | 12:42 PM EST | Scott

In this week’s Star Wars Action News, Marjorie and Arnie continue their Collecting 101 series with one of the most important subjects – how to keep track of your collection. Archival methods include the sophisticated, custom built Access Databases to the simple, yet effective Word checklists. Make sure to download this week’s episode for ideas on how you can keep everything good records on your collection.
Last week Arnie talked about the arrival of the international version of the Gentle Giant Darth Maul statue. This week he received his domestic version of the statue. But wait, there’s a problem. Is it the same statue? How close are they? Did Arnie really need both of these statues or would one suffice?
As always, we cover everything you need to know about what’s on the pegs at your local store and what’s coming up. Also make sure to listen to Scott from Tulsa as he fills us in on the plethora of new items on the pegs in the Midwest.
And please, make sure to vote for us at Podcast Alley!!
Until next week, may the pegs be stocked and the force be with you!

News About The New DVD’s
May 18, 2006 | 7:09 PM EST | Mark
“The upcoming DVDs of the original original trilogy (how stupid does that sound?) will not be anamorphic widescreen. We’re going to get lousy letterbox transfers. We can get The People Under the Stairs with an anamorphic transfer so good that it could fool less experienced viewers into thinking they’re watching HD, but we can’t get the creator of the most popular science fiction franchise of all time to show his films the same level of respect.”
An excellent quote from someone I will not say whom. But they did send the following contact information.
Jim Ward
Senior Vice President
Lucasfilm Ltd.
5858 Lucas Valley Rd.
Nicasio, CA 94946
Phone: 415-662-1800
Fax: 415-448-2495
To me, for Lucas to finally give in to fans was a fantastic surprise. However, to find out that this is what the plans are, I am just going to save the money and keep my laserdics and burn them to DVD. Without the anamorphic trasnfer it would be a total waste of money to buy these DVD’s if you own a 16×9 TV. While we are in the dawn of Blue Ray and HD DVD, we get 1995 technology on a DVD from the person who made Special Effects what they are. The pioneer of Digital film. This does not make any sense in todays world of technology.
By the way.. here is a perfect example of this tactic we are saying.. simply put.. this is perfect..

It’s almost like they aren’t coming out on DVD afterall.
May 18, 2006 | 6:47 AM EST | Ben
Ahh, my Lucas cynicism has been reaffirmed! I’ll admit he had me fooled there for a minute. I actually thought he had had a change of heart and had gotten over his insecurity that fans would prefer the classics over his digitally altered Frankensteins if given the choice. Well in a bid to ensure the supremacy of the CGI-erific versions, the forthcoming DVD will not be 16×9 enhanced.
For all intents and purposes he’s NOT coming out with it on DVD afterall. It’s just another edition of letterboxed laserdisc. For those who don’t think this is a big deal… If you have (or will have) an HDTV this matters to you! Anything that is NOT anamorphic looks horrible on modern 16×9 TVs.
On the dawn of BluRay and HD-DVD he’s not even doing a proper standard DVD. Nobody issues non-anamorphic discs these days! I guess he really meant it when he said the Special Editions are the versions for posterity. These discs are designed for immediate obsolescence.
It’s simply inexcusable if it’s true. I just hope their source at Fox/Lucasfilm was simply confused.
This news comes from www.thedigitalbits.com
Why an anamorphic transfer is a big deal.

New DVD Commemorative Action Figure Sets
May 17, 2006 | 10:37 AM EST | rykrofenloe
Head on over to Rebelscum for some information on some figures that will be released at the time of the Unaltered OT DVD set this fall, including some great pics.
ANH – Will come with the 25th Anniversary Darth Vader, 25th Anniversary Obi Wan Kenobi, and the POTF2 Commtech Luke Skywalker.
ESB – Will come with the POTJ Bespin Capture Han Solo, POTJ Mechanic Chewbacca, and the POTF2 Commtech Stormtrooper.
ROTJ – Will come with the VOTC C3PO, the SAGA Jabba’s Sail Barge R2D2, the SAGA Emperor Palpatine, and the SAGA Jabba’s Palace Luke Skywalker.
Personally I’d rather see the ANH set replacing the Luke with the POTF2 Commtech Princess Leia, but these seem like pretty good sets, especially if they retail in the $10.00 range.
All figures will be repacks in these sets.

Star Wars 3-D and Indy 4
May 12, 2006 | 10:22 AM EST | Mark
Over at MTV they have a new article with comments from ol’ Mr. G himself on these topics.
“Contrary to how Hollywood usually hypes its blockbusters, the writer/producer says Indiana Jones’ next adventure actually won’t be any louder, bigger or faster than his last one. In fact, if Lucas gets his way (hint: he usually does), the Jones sequel will prize dialogue over decibels.”
Lucas added that he’s still working on his “Star Wars” 3-D theatrical project as well, but when asked when it might come out, he laughed. “I don’t know!” he said. “Eventually. We’re working on that technology, seeing if we can get that to work out.”

The Official Site has updated with a new feature for Hyperspace members. This time it’s a new series of images of what we can expect with Star Wars 30th Anniversary next year in 2007. Heroes and Villains Assortment Added to Toyguide
May 10, 2006 | 3:02 PM EST | Jayson

With much hesitation, I purchased the first 12 figures in the EIII Heroes and Villains Assortment from my local TRU store and I’ve added to them to thetoyguide for your viewing pleasure. These figures are exact repacks from the ROTS line, but are now presented in the gorgeous TSC packaging. They also include the random blue hologram figures as well.
For the first time in a long time, I won’t be purchasing duplicates for openers. I hope my OCD can handle it – my wallet could use a break anyway! ; )

UPDATE 3 Lucas Family: The Saga Continues
May 9, 2006 | 7:21 PM EST | Jayson

The Lucas Family Collector Set is due to ship next week so watch those mail boxes and bank/credit card accounts as they will be charging them soon. I received notice just this morning that my account has been charged.
UPDATE For those who pre-ordered this set, check how much you were charged, as they are how selling this set for $29.99 each (previously $34.99). You might want to send them a friendly email inquiring about the price difference. Thanks to a few eagle-eyed JediDefender members and Yakreader Jeremiah for this info.
UPDATE 2 I received an email from the customer service dept. stating that I would in fact receive a $5.00 credit (per set). Other readers have also received the same email. No word if persons who ordered the set, but did not inquire about the price adjustment, would receive a credit.
UPDATE 3 This is very weird… the collector set is back up to the $34.99 price! Congrats to all those who got their’s at the $29.99 price point or the $5.00 credit.

Qui-Gon Jinn Lightsaber Limited Edition
May 9, 2006 | 7:52 AM EST | Mark
New from Master Replicas
Sure, Master Yoda taught us that size was not important…but then again, Master Yoda didn’t collect Limited Edition lightsabers. Because in terms of Master Replicas’ LEs, the size – or rather, the size of the edition – is a very important piece of information for our collectors.
Therefore, without further ado, we are pleased to announce that the latest LE – the Qui-Gon Jinn Lightsaber Limited Edition – will have a production run of 2500 units. That’s a pretty low edition size, so be sure to place your order ASAP.

Hunt For Grievous @ Amazon
May 8, 2006 | 10:44 AM EST | Scott

Over at Amazon.com, they now have the Hunt for General Grievous Battle Pack showing up as in stock and shipping within 2 to 3 days. Retail is $24.99.
It should be noted that Amazon previously had this set listed as Defense Of The Galactic Senate, and has just been corrected.
UPDATE Yak reader Robert writes in with the following info…
” I ordered the Hunt for Grievous pack last Thursday from Amazon, under the assumption that it was “in stock” and would ship in 2-3 days as your home page notes, but I got an email from Amazon on Saturday saying the shipment would be delayed until early to mid June, so their website isn’t showing the most current information. UGH! ”
Thanks Robert! Keep in mind that this might not be the case for everyone. This set was previously listed at the Defense of the Galactic Senate for some time and a lot of pre-orders had gone in when it was still listed as such. I just ordered mine this afternoon so I can probably expect a situation more like Robert’s. If you ordered earlier, chances are, you’ll get it sooner. If you do, be sure to let us know, with a photo if possible.

More Revealed About Star Wars TV Series
May 4, 2006 | 3:45 PM EST | Keri
Upon the heels of encouraging news regarding the unaltered versions of the Original Trilogy, comes more news sure to put a smile on most fans’ faces.
According to a report on the website www.cinematical.com Major Duomo Rick McCallum gives a great hint on what the Star Wars live action TV show holds for us in the near future. He denies rumors that it focuses around a certain young Skywalker, and instead only says “think bounty hunter. That’s all I can tell you.” Lucas is currently working on the basic concept of the story according to McCallum. Well, I don’t know about most of you out there, but that’s all I needed to hear!

Titanium UGH Error
May 3, 2006 | 1:41 PM EST | Jayson

While checking my local TRU store on my lunch break, I stumbled upon a unique item. As I was shuffling through the Titanium Vehicles, something looked askew. Sure enough, I was looking at an UGH Slave I with Sith Infiltrator insert. The packaging was complete and showed no signs of tampering.
Just one of those odd slips that make collecting even more interesting…. from time to time.
Titanium 2006 Line-Up
May 2, 2006 | 5:13 PM EST | Scott
Wanna know what to expect from the increasingly popular Titanium line?
3.75-inch Die-Cast Figures (Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica)

Darth Vader and Boba Fett were the first releases in the Titanium Series’ Star Wars 3.75-inch Die-Cast Figure lineup. Fans are now being introduced to the Sand Trooper and Bossk figures (May), with the Clone Trooper and IG-88 robot to follow in June. The intricately micro-detailed figures each include a custom base and premium display case. Additional Star Wars figures will be released throughout the year, and Battlestar Galactica’s first offerings from this line are due out in July.

Wattographs Introduces, Recollections
May 2, 2006 | 2:12 PM EST | Scott
Wattographs has just launched a new feature on their site that’s well worth checking out. Here is their report…
” Wattographs is pleased to announce our newest site feature, Recollections. This series will feature interviews with the people who bring the Star Wars universe to life: the actors, the extras, the crew, as well as individuals from the Expanded Universe. Recollections was started in order to preserve the memories and tales from those connected with Star Wars, as we’re starting to lose people from the original trilogy on a “regular” basis, and with them go their stories. We currently have live interviews with Lily “Stass Allie” Nyamwasa and Derek Lyons, who was a Massassi Temple Guard and the medal bearer at the end of A New Hope. We’ve got several more interviews in the pipeline, with lots more planned in the upcoming months.
Recollections can be accessed at this link. “
VTSC’s Broken Into, Stickers Stolen
May 2, 2006 | 2:08 PM EST | Scott
We’ve been hearing similar stories like this more and more lately. It’s so unfortunate that there are individuals out there who have to resort to outright theft and destruction of property to get exclusives. Oliver L. from Malone, NY sends this report…
” I just wanted to relay my experience today with the UGH figures today. I was at a local walmart and they had one set of vintage figures left. Unfortunatly someone opened the clamshells and stole all of the stickers and left the figures. That just shows how people are. ”
Thanks Oliver. The shame of it is, more than likely, these people are the same ones selling the certificate and stickers on ebay. My advice to collectors is if you see product that has been ripped open in the stores like this, report it to management immediately. It may do no good, but on the other hand maybe there will be some that will keep a sharper eye out.

I would like to thank everyone who sent in a suggested title name for the Rykrof Enloe series. There were more entries than I expected and it was very hard to pick just one title. After reading each one several times and matching it with the overall storyline, Yak Reader Lance Quazar‘s suggestion seems to hit the nail on the head with the title Soldier of Virtue: The Enloe Chronicles Thank you Lance, your custom Rykrof Enloe figure will be completed very soon and sent to you.
There were also two runners up for their great ideas –
H. Zambrano
Commander Redd
Please contact me with your mailing address and I will get your runner up prize sent to you both, a MOMC SAGA2 Utapau Clone Trooper.
Also, the clock is ticking and the first story, Crisis on Abridon will be here very soon and we will update you when it is online. It will be the first of many stories in the ongoing tale of the Enloe Family’s life in the Star Wars galaxy.
Finally here are a couple of sneak peaks at what is to come –
I would like thank the team at Yakface for the support, to everyone who sent in a submission, and to everyone who has encouraged me to continue working on this series and been an influence in this hobby to help me make something like this that I’ve been wanting to do for a long, long time. I hope some readers will enjoy reading the stories as much as I do working on them. Be on the lookout for the first chapter’s release in early May!

New WOC Miniatures
May 1, 2006 | 9:22 AM EST | Mark B
I have to admit I’m a newbie when it comes to the Wizards of the Coast’s Star Wars Miniatures Line. I’ve collected a few pieces such as the AT-AT and AT-ST, but the more I see, the more I REALLY LIKE!! Wizards of the Coast has just announced the next expansion pack entitled “Champions of the Force”. This set will add another 60 figures to the miniatures set….the hunt is on in June!!
