August 31, 2006 | 5:47 PM EST | rykrofenloe

Head on over to Hasbro Star Wars for some new pics of the upcoming Star Wars Commemorative Tin collection due to hit retail in October. A nice surprise with the ANH set apparently being a VOTC style Sandtrooper included, but the repack selection of the ESB and ROTJ sets may not appeal to as many collectors…

Star Wars Action News Goes LIVE
August 31, 2006 | 3:08 PM EST | Jayson

Hello listeners of Star Wars Action News! It has been a crazy year where we went from a husband and wife with two free microphones to one of Podcast Alley’s highest ranked podcasts, interviewing such Star Wars luminaries as Aaron Allston, Steve Sansweet, and Samuel L. Jackson. We know we could not have done it without the support of the Star Wars community, including the fan sites out there as well as each and every one of our listeners.

To celebrate being on the air for one year we will be having a special live broadcast this Sunday, September 3rd, at 5 p.m. The show will broadcast live, and there will be a live chat room as well. We will have listeners call in live with store reports, announce the winners of our one year anniversary trivia contest, and give away great prizes like a Gentle Giant Clone Trooper Mini-Bust, Hasbro Battle Packs, and more!

To join us in this celebration, go to swactionnews.com Sunday afternoon to find the links to the live streaming server and the chat room. We really hope to see you there!

YakPoll – Original Trilogy DVDs
August 30, 2006 | 12:23 PM EST | Scott

The latest incarnation of the classic Star Wars Trilogy is going to hit DVD in a couple weeks. The good news is that it will include the ORIGINAL versions that your mamma saw back in the day without all the CGI jibber jabber. (yay!)

The bad news is that the “original” original trilogy disc is going to be only a little better than VHS in terms of sound and picture quality and won’t be receiving the sparkling clean digital upgrade that the SE’s got which will appear on disc 1 of the set. (boo!)

Also bear in mind that a 6 film super-happy-fun-smile-time-mega-set is due next year to celebrate the 30th anniversary. Word on the rumor mill is that it will include lots of the stuff you were looking for on the previous releases, like additional deleted scenes and the 86-ing of TPM’s puppet yoda in favor of the uber-cooler CGI AOTC and ROTS Yoda. (And could the O-OT’s re-appear here? Time will tell.)

So, when you add up all the above factors, how does it affect your purchasing decision? Are you still going to run out when the stores open on 9/12, or are you gonna roll the dice that the ’07 set will be even cooler? VOTE TODAY!

Toyguide Update: Greatest Battles Wave Complete
August 27, 2006 | 4:37 PM EST | Jayson

Here is a small weekend update. I managed to track down the 4 remaining figures for the “Greatest Battles” Repack wave and also found the General Grievous Variant (#9 of 12) from the “Heroes and Villains” Wave, so the toyguide has been updated respectively. I even sliced and diced them open to photograph those obscured cardbacks. I’ll sure miss those when the 30th Anniversary packaging launches.

The Future of the Force
August 25, 2006 | 8:18 AM EST | Mark B

A current issue of the online magazine icv2 takes an interesting look at the future of Star Wars merchandise with no more movies coming. Something interesting to note is that the article specifically mentions a line of action figures from Hasbro around a new video game that is being released around the holidays…guess we’ll get a glimpse of them at ToyFair! Read it all here.

How’s this for an AT-TE?
August 25, 2006 | 1:11 AM EST | rykrofenloe

No, it’s not a Hasbro AT-TE obviously. But longtime and well know Yakker Gatillo sends this in today –

“I went to the COSI Star Wars exhibit today. I figure that I should
go before they leave Columbus. I took a few pics and here are some
that I thought you might like.”

For some larger pics of this exhibit that were taken, please click here

If you have been lucky enough to see this or similar exhibits and would like add any photographs you have taken, please email me, or you can share them on your own in our forums

The Ultimate Group Project
August 23, 2006 | 11:39 PM EST | rykrofenloe

What you see above is an initial concept for a new type of Group Project. For several months the creative minds of customizers in the forums in the Star Wars community here and atwww.jedidefender.com have been working on ideas for a group project unlike any other, an entire Star Wars World.

Inspired by longtime Star Wars fan Master Phruby, the goal of this project is to organize one of the biggest and most ambitious group projects done in the fan community and present this for the fans to see at Celebration IV.

We would like to invite interested customizers in the community to take part in The Ultimate Group Project, which is still in the planning stages, so it is not too late to join in on the fun. Some of the groundwork has been done, but there are many areas on the project that Star Wars fans can still contribute, all the way to the final stages of construction. Even if you are not a customizer there are ways you can take part!

Interested in learning more or taking part of this project?

CLICK HERE for more specific details on the project in the Yakface forums!

TRU.com Cancels AT-AT Orders
August 23, 2006 | 11:55 AM EST | Scott

We got a couple emails from some Yak readers letting us know that TRU.com has once again let SW fans down by canceling long awaited pre-orders. This time it’s the Endor AT-AT that’s getting the axe.

“DJ Crush” Sends this note…
“toysrus.com is at it again… how fair is this to people who passed this up in stores because they thought “hey, i already have one ordered…?

Thank you for your recent order at Toysrus.com & Babiesrus.com.

Unfortunately, we are unable to complete all or part of your order at this time.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

The following item(s) are unavailable and have been cancelled from
your order:

Item: BF3A7F74
Description: EX SW SW DLX CLSSC ENDOR AT
Quantity: 1 @ $ 80.99”

The same happened to “captaindude”…

Well, probably like many others, I ordered the new Endor AT-AT online. I just received an e-mail from them stating that they’ve cancelled my order and that the product was no longer available. I checked their site and the AT-AT is now labeled as “TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE ONLINE.”

What the –? Toysrus.com has done this to me several times in a row! First, with the Clone Wars Gunship…then, the Hunt for Grievous Battle Pack…now this!

All of these items have been exclusive to Toys R Us…so, what’s the problem? I’m frustrated!

Yak forum member “Darth Frisco” has experienced similar problems as well.

Feel free to share your experiences regarding these exclusives in the YAKFACE FORUMS

We’ve had a few more reports of the Unleashed Boba Fett and General Grievous showing up at Target stores, so if you are wanting to add these to your collection, don’t wait too long to start looking. Sure enough, I went to a local Target today in St. Louis and found four of the Grievous, and no surprise that the Fetts were already sold out.

Star Wars Action News – Episode 52
August 22, 2006 | 9:49 AM EST | Scott

Star Wars Action News Episode 52 is live, and this week Marjorie and Arnie closely examine the Master Replicas Signature Edition AT-AT. The photos look good, but what about in person? And is it worth the money? They sit in judgment of this piece this week.
Also this week, Marjorie got her 2006 Hallmark ornaments, and a couple of musical cards. Do these new ornaments live up to the praise Marjorie gave the line last year? And are the musical cards a great gimmick, or just annoying? Listen to find out.

Also, the Star Wars Action News Book Club podcast is now available as well. The first two volumes of this podcast will be made available through the Star Wars Action News RSS Feed; additional episodes will have to be downloaded directly from the Star Wars Action News web site or through the Star Wars Action News Book Club’s own RSS feed. If you enjoy the book club podcast, or just want to join a group of friends in reading some Star Wars books, registration is now open to read Han Solo at Stars’ End so visit the Star Wars Action News forums now to sign up!

Are you planning on attending the Star Wars Action News live show on September 3rd? If so, please let Arnie and Marjorie know. You can post in their forums or by e-mailing show@reviewstarwars.com. There will be some great prizes given away, including a Gentle Giant Clone Trooper mini-bust!

And speaking of prizes, the Star Wars Action News one year anniversary contest is still open with one week left for you to bring up your point counts to try and win the Darth Maul F/X saber or the San Diego Comic Con Shock Trooper bust!

With all the store reports, voice mails, and reviews you expect, listen to this week’s Star Wars Action News now!

Toys R Us Sale
August 21, 2006 | 1:51 PM EST | Jayson

As you may have heard, Toys R Us stores are running a sale on the “Heroes and Villains” figures for a reduced price of $5.99 (down from $6.99). So, I ran to my local TRU during lunch today and used their price scanner stations and discovered that the sale covers all basic figures, not just the themed “Heroes and Villains” or “Greatest Battles” designated figures. So, if you need to bolster your Sandtrooper/Clonetrooper ranks or just pick up some custom fodder, this week’s sale will take a bit of the bite from our wallets.

So Where Is Slave Leia?
August 19, 2006 | 8:50 AM EST | Mark B

With the release at StarWarsShop.com of nearly all of the Gentle Giant statues that were shown at Comic Con, I am left wondering….Where is the new Slave Leia statue that was shown at Comic Con? So, I’ll let you in on a rumor I have heard through the grapevine. Gentle Giant invited Carrie Fisher over to the booth at Comic Con to view their line, and she freaked when she saw just how much of the statue was shown (if you know what I mean). They then pulled the statue and have had to redo it which is causing the delay. Truth? I don’t know but it came from a pretty reliable source….until then, get over to StarWarsShop.com to get Gentle Giant’s other great new statues ordered!

Toyguide Update: Greatest Battles #1-10
August 16, 2006 | 9:44 PM EST | Jayson

The toyguide is updated once again this evening with the addition of the carded shots of the first ten figures in the latest assortment of repacks: The Greatest Battles Wave. While the title of this wave is fitting for some of the included figures like the 501st Legion Clone Trooper or Count Dooku, C-3PO walking down the hallway of the Tantive IV seems to miss the mark. Oh well, the cards look great and they allow for some easy stock piling for those nifty red hologram figures! Now just to track down the final 4 and put this wave to bed!

UPDATE: I decided to crack these puppies open and photograph the cardbacks and the individual inserts (cuz they’re pretty). FYI, the instruction sheet included with GB #10 R2-D2 is different than the one included with the ROTS version.

Toyguide Update: SDCC 501st Stormtrooper
August 16, 2006 | 6:22 AM EST | Jayson

Long time no see folks, today’s toyguide update kicks off with the 2006 SDCC/HasbroToyshop Exclusive 501st Stormtrooper. Dubbed “Vader’s Fist”, these 501st stormtroopers are a continuance of Vader’s elite personal legion dating back to the great Jedi purge during the end of the Clone Wars.

(Big thanks to Mark and Bill for helping my acquire this figure from this year’s SDCC.)

Raiders In 30 Seconds – Performed By Bunnies!
August 15, 2006 | 10:53 AM EST | Scott

The folks over at angryalien.com who brought you that parody of Star Wars a while back as re-enacted by bunnies have added another Lucas property to their library. Click on the banner above to see the Bunnies’ take on Dr. Jones and co. as they search for the Lost Ark.

For those of you unfamiliar with Angry Alien, it’s a site where it’s creator, Jennifer Shiman, thought it would be cute to create 30-second condensed versions of popular movies, and have all of them re-enacted by bunnies!

The concept caught on so well, they were approached by the Starz Network to produce spots to be aired between films.

They’ve produced the likes of Alien, Pulp Fiction (bleeped and unbleeped), The Shining, The Exorcist, Office Space and many more.

So after you check out Raiders, click here to view the rest of the bunnies archive.

Star Wars Action News – Episode 51
August 14, 2006 | 12:59 PM EST | Scott

Star Wars Action News is back from Gen Con, their last con of the official convention season. What did they think of “the best four days in gaming”? Not too much, actually. Listen to find out why. Also, Marjorie and Arnie have long made fun of the San Diego Comic Con exclusive Code 3 mini-poster. Was their harsh appraisal correct? They open this item live on the show to review the poster first-hand, rather than from on-line photos.

And as always Star Wars Action News brings you reports of what they’re finding in stores, their E-bay item of the week, their poll of the week, and this week’s Hasbro questions. This week Hasbro answered questions regarding figure articulation, the paint job on the Titanium Bossk’s legs, and the decision making process between the raspberry red Holiday Edition Vader figure. Tune in to find out the answers!

In addition, the Star Wars Action News one year anniversary contest is still underway! Check out our forums to enter to win some great prizes, including Gentle Giant clone mini-busts and Master Replicas F/X Sabers!

Finally, in a bit of non-Star Wars news, Arnie and Marjorie are excited about this week’s release of the new Samuel L Jackson movie, Snakes on a Plane. In episode 48 Arnie and Marjorie aired a clip of their interview session with Samuel L Jackson at the San Diego Comic Con. While at SDCC Arnie and Marjorie interviewed more people involved with Snakes on a Plane. To celebrate this A-grade B movie, Marjorie and Arnie are having a special five episode podcast called Snakes on a Podcast! This podcast will feature interviews with Keenan Thompson and Samuel L Jackson, as well as Jules Sylvester the snake wrangler on Snakes on a Plane and David R. Ellis, the film’s director. One episode of Snakes on a Podcast will be released daily. You can subscribe to the XML feed for Snakes on a Podcast at http://www.reviewgames.com/snakes/snakesonapodcast.xml using your favorite Podcast catcher software, or you can download a new episode each day at www.swactionnews.com. Please be sure to check it out, but be aware, due to the subject matter of Snakes on a Plane, Snakes on a Podcast contains harsh language and should only be listened to by people over age 18 who are not offended by such language.

Thank you for listening to Star Wars Action News and, if you so choose, Snakes on a Podcast. Star Wars Action News will be back next week to discuss the Master Replicas AT-AT. Until then, may the pegs be stocked and the Force be with you!

has added a couple of very cool new Giclee Prints from the Clone Wars cartoons. These are from one of the kind of “new” players in the Star Wars collectible arena – ACME Archives. They have produced a fantastic line of animated “character keys” that have skyrocketed in value due to their very low edition numbers. Off Topic – Pirates of the Caribbean Playset
August 8, 2006 | 11:25 PM EST | rykrofenloe

Today I saw at a Toysrus store the Pirates of the Caribbean Black Pearl ship playset. What a great looking item!

Here is a much better description of this playset than I could ever write, courtesy of sponsorEntertainment Earth, who has this item for pre-order.

2 1/2-feet long and everything you need in a good pirate ship! Quite literally the flagship toy of Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest, this giant ship has so many pirate features you won’t know what to try out first. The specially designed sails have little pegs on them, so your figures can fight while walking the deadly tightrope above the ship. There are trap doors, swinging masts, blast-away sections, hidden cannons, and so much more wrapped up in a big boat that looks like a high-quality replica seen in the first two Pirates movies. With 9 sound effects, firiing cannons, a retractable zipline, and more, no toy gives you more fun this season! Fans of scurvy seafaring bilge rats can’t miss out on this one! Measures 19 1/2-inches tall x 2 1/2-feet long, figures not included.

So basically, to me this is a large scaled playset that looks very cool, which is something you see less and less of these days from Hasbro in our beloved Star Wars hobby.

Our hats go off to Zizzle, the company who decided to bring this fantastic toy to Pirates collectors. Wouldn’t it be nice to see Hasbro make something this size, like a Sail Barge or AT-TE?

Star Wars Action News – Episode 50!
August 7, 2006 | 8:56 AM EST | Scott

Every week Arnie and Marjorie talk to you about things you can do to express your fandom from purchasing items that display your love for Star Wars to helping other collectors through trades. Perhaps one of the most extreme way someone can express their love of Star Wars is by obtaining what to some is the ultimate collectible, a Star Wars tattoo. Paid for in cash and in pain, it is a permanent display of devotion to Star Wars. Arnie and Marjorie promised to get new Star Wars tattoos if voted into the top 25 at Podcast Alley and you obliged. Now Arnie and Marjorie are ready for those tattoos. They share with you their thought process into getting a tattoo and their experiences getting inked, both Star Wars and non, in the past.

In addition, Arnie and Marjorie met up with some great folks at Wizard World in Chicago. They discuss their dinner at Longhorn Steak House, and share with you an interview they did with Doug Wangler, the character reference for fan favorite character Quinlan Vos.

With the store reports, voice mails, and all the Scott from Tulsa you have come to expect from Star Wars Action News, this episode is now available for download.

Also, don’t forget the Star Wars Action News 1 Year Anniversary contest is going on right now, and thanks to some late prize additions from sponsors even if you lose you can win. That’s right, anyone who submits answers, right or wrong, to 25 of the questions will be entered into a drawing to win from DK Publishing either a Complete Visual Dictionary or Complete Locations book. Full details can be found in our Star Wars Action News forums.

The Return of Scorch
August 1, 2006 | 12:05 PM EST | rykrofenloe

We’ve had numerous reports regarding Walmart stores totally restocked with figures, including endcaps and sidepanels full of figures.

Seems like Hasbro is now shipping in full force a repacked assortment of SAGA figures that includes a couple of Scorch figures, Utapau Clones, Sandtroopers and a few Tatooine based rehashes from the Carkoon and Cantina Waves.

The Endor Wave has also been spotted mixed in with these displays.

Might be a good time to hit a couple Walmarts this week and see what you can find!
