Ralph McQuarrie Darth Vader Statue Preorder

Sideshow Collectibles is now taking preorders for their Concept Artist Series Ralph McQuarrie Darth Vader Statue.

Sideshow spends a lot of our time creating 3D representations of some of the most recognizable pop-culture icons in the world and, for that reason, we are honored to present the Ralph McQuarrie Darth Vader Statue – part of our Concept Artist Series.

Ralph McQuarrie is the man who gave us the design and visual representation of Darth Vader, and our statue has been created based on his original illustrations featuring an alternate concept helmet.

Standing just under two feet tall, this polystone piece is our homage to the man who gave us one of the most amazing characters to ever take the screen.

Toyguide Update: Boba Fett (McQuarrie Concept) Mini Bust (SDCC 2009 Exclusive)

TG_concept_fett_bust_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today as we take a look at the 2009 SDCC Exclusive Boba Fett (McQuarrie Concept) Mini Bust from Gentle Giant.

PROS:  As a huge fan of anything related to Ralph McQuarrie, this item struck a chord with me back in 2009 although I only just acquired it recently due to my new and expanding “Concept/Prototype Boba Fett” collection of items. The sculpt and details of this piece captures McQuarrie’s original concept masterfully and the inclusion of the swappable helmet is the perfect touch as it give collectors options for displaying. Paint is minimal, yet effective as the overall off-white, egg shell color gives it a used “in-universe” look.

CONS: Long since sold out, the aftermarket/third party prices on this piece are elevated but there are deals out there to be had from time to time. If you really want to add this piece to your collection, I suggest having a “saved search” on eBay.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and to judge for yourself whether this bust is worth adding to your collection.

McQuarrie Boba Fett Statue Pre-Order

Sideshow is now taking preorders for the Ralph McQuarrie Boba Fett statue.

One of the first new characters to be designed for The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett originally began as a super trooper, with a striking aesthetic inspired primarily by Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers. As McQuarrie worked closely alongside Star Wars Art Director Joe Johnston, the character evolved into the ruthless Mandalorian bounty hunter we know today. Capturing the spirit of these early explorations, Fett appears in his original all-white armor, leaping into action over a base inspired by the Slave I. Reviewing a broad spectrum of McQuarrie’s imaginative designs for Boba Fett, Sideshow’s artists have translated his iconic artwork in a brilliant homage to a Star Wars that is both familiar, yet never was.
