YakTube – “Hand” Solo?
January 31, 2007 | 3:57 PM EST | Scott

Innovation and Star Wars seem to go “hand in hand” in this video. Imagine a REALLY, REALLY low budget version of ANH where all you had was a dark room and some black long sleeved shirts. It would turn out a bit like this…

Thanks to “The Professor” for giving me the heads-up on this one.

Liked this week’s video? Hated it? talk about it HERE in our fourms.

By the way, ya diggin our new YakTube logo? Yeah, me too. Thanks Brandon for whipping that up for us!

Utapau Deco AT-RT Driver
January 31, 2007 | 11:56 AM EST | Jayson

Our friends at jedidefender.com have posted a few loose images of the Utapau Deco AT-RT Driver from the upcoming Order 66 Two-Pack.

Looks like he’ll fit in nicely with Utapau’s 212th Battalion, but what’s with the polka-dots? Head on over to check them out.

Wrong Figure Stands. Again.
January 31, 2007 | 7:19 AM EST | Jayson

Our friends at DeathStarPlans2.com have posted loose images of some of the Wal-Mart Exclusive Figures. And once again the wrong base has been matched with some of the figures. Labria, Kitik Keed`kak & Nabrun Leids with Kabe all include AOTC base stands.

I guess good help is hard to come by when things like this get approved and make it through production. Plus, as hard as these “exclusives” will be to find for some collectors, it’d be nice to actually get an error free product for the trouble.

2007 Galactic Heroes Images
January 30, 2007 | 10:17 PM EST | Bill

Hasbro’s on-line database has updated with images of a number of upcoming Galactic Heroes sets. While all of the new figures appear to continue everything we’ve come to expect in this line, the big news is we get another Darth Vader— either helmetless or with a removable helmet! Here’s links to images of each 2 pack:

  • Emperor’s Royal Guard and Death Star Gunner

Would You Like to Play a Nice Game of Chess?
    January 30, 2007 | 7:19 PM EST | Jayson

The latest Tomart’s Action Figures Digest reveals that Sideshow Collectibles is producing a scaled Dejarik Table accessory. One is led to believe that a Chewbacca figure won’t be to far behind. Hmm… I wonder?

    January 30, 2007 | 11:35 AM EST | Scott

Holy smoke kids! Check out what Yak Reader Javier Bonet created for the Puerto Rico Pop Culture Convention! That is a LIFE-SIZED replica of the figure cards that we all know so well. He created the Episode I version (and that’s Javier as Darth Maul BTW) as well as a vintage-styled Stormtrooper card.

Click on the thumbnail above. You’ll be taken to a thread in our forums where you can check out all the pics Javier sent in.

Star Wars Action News – Episode 75
    January 30, 2007 | 10:27 AM EST | Scott

This week on Star Wars Action News we continue our 30 Years of Collecting retrospective by a look at what we consider to be the single most exciting Star Wars collectible released in 1979–the first figure for the new bad guy Boba Fett!

We also discuss at length the splitting of the Star Wars Fan Club into two subscriptions, one for the Hyperspace/Fan Club membership and the other for the magazine The Star Wars Insider. Was this change good for Star Wars fans? Marjorie and Arnie discuss…

Finally, what better way to tell your significant other that you love them than a lovely card featuring Obi-Wan and a word jumble, with a rub-on tattoo? Obviously there is none, so Arnie and Marjorie discuss 2007’s Star Wars Valentine options.

Stay on Target (and Walmart too)
    January 30, 2007 | 12:22 AM EST | rykrofenloe

Reports are coming in from the midwest now that Wave 9 has been showing up at Target with the Elite Corps Clone Trooper, and the Walmart exclusives are showing up as well (but only one of each exclusive figure per case). The hunt continues!

UPDATE – Not ten minutes after reporting this, I receive an email from a collector in the St. Louis area letting me know that the Walmart exclusive figures are at a local Walmart (Arnold Walmart) because he has just picked some up. A few minutes later I’m there, and see a few cases of the new displayer they are in.

A friendly Walmart employee offered to let me go through them, and handed me the figures I wanted. After grabbing a handful of the wave, I put the remaining figures on the overcrowded pegs of older pegwarmers. Unfortunately, everything else in the case appeared to be repacks of Bespin Vader, Hoth R2D2, Naboo Obi Wan, and Endor Luke (though I guess Luke is fine).

Great way to start the week though, and thank you Darth Stringfield for the tip, you Yakface readers are the best (and Darth Stringfield, you have a free custom coming your way for the nice tip)!

    Niub Niub’s Universe – C4 Diorama Workshop
    January 29, 2007 | 6:57 PM EST | Scott

Those of you who attended Celebration 3 might remember the fantastic diorama workshop set up by the fine folks over at NiubNiubs Universe where fans could build their very own section of the Death Star.

Well Niub Niub and the crew are doing it again. This time, Celebration 4’s diorama theme will be the sanctuary moon of Endor!

But to pull this project together, they’re going to need YOUR HELP. Specifically, they’re going to need characters to populate this massive world they have planned. They need any and all figures (Endor specific that is) they can get their hands on, even a few vehicles would help as well.

So if you have a few extra ewoks lying around or you’ve got doubles of that trenchcoat Han or Endor Poncho Leia you don’t know what to do with, donate it to the gang at Niub Niub’s Universe and help make this year’s diorama workshop a success!

For all the details on what they need and how you can help, hit THIS LINK and tell ’em Yakface sent ya!

    Star Wars Celica?
    January 29, 2007 | 3:15 PM EST | Keri

I ran across this photo of a 1977 RA29 Toyota Celica and couldn’t believe my eyes. I personally have never seen photos of this very special one of a kind Star Wars themed car anywhere.

According to the article at www.jalopnik.com the car was a grand prize in a 20th Century Fox contest entitled “Space Fantasy Sweepstakes”.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of the Celica today? Is it in someone’s collection (I hope) and not in a junkyard or even worse already been sent to the scrap heap? If you have any information regarding the car, please email me here and/or discuss it in our forum here.

    More Super Deformed Figures?
    January 29, 2007 | 2:04 PM EST | rykrofenloe

Our friends over at Archival Star Wars have updated with several images of a line of figures from a collector show in Japan.

To our knowledge, it has not yet been confirmed if the figures are a continuation of the deformed figures that have been released over the past few years or if they are a totally new line.

Head on over there by clicking here.

    Attakus Diorama Update
    January 28, 2007 | 2:16 PM EST | rykrofenloe

Last year, starwars.com revealed some of what went into the making of Attakus’ spectacularly monstrous Millennium Falcon diorama, a piece that landed a top spot in starwars.com’s recent “Best of 2006” feature. Things appear to be progressing nicely for the second issue in the series, which reconstructs the otherworldly setting of the Dagobah swamp from The Empire Strikes Back. See the accompanying slideshow for the latest batch of images from Attakus’ studio.

Chance are that we’ll never get anything this realistic in the basic Star Wars line, but for those with a larger budget – this piece is shaping up to look nothing short of another masterpiece by Attakus.

    Koto’s Proto McQuarrie Duel
    January 26, 2007 | 2:33 AM EST | rykrofenloe

    From starwars.com:

One of the most evocative of Ralph McQuarrie’s early concept illustrations for Star Wars will soon be available as a 3-D vinyl model courtesy of the masterful artisans at Kotobukiya.

The two figures can be displayed together, locked in the iconic pose made famous by McQuarrie’s classic illustration, or separately. Together, the combined bases measure approximately 16.5 inches long, with Vader standing about 11 inches tall. It is unclear whether these will be sold together or separately, but fans can check out Kotobukiya’s official site for product and release updates.

This, along with Hasbro’s upcoming McQuarrie collection, are a great tribute to Ralph McQuarrie, who did so much in bringing the Lucas vision to reality with his concept paintings for the Original Trilogy.

With two Chameleon Droids packed in alongside a new Padme and everyone’s favorite protocol and astromech droid, this appears to be one of the best Battle Packs Hasbro has released.

If you don’t see them on the shelves at your local Target store, be sure to check the customer service desk as I did this evening and ask if they can check to see if DPCI number 087-06-0835 is in stock.

For other useful Target DPCI numbers, click here in our forums, and good luck Yakkers!

YakTube – Barbershop Quartet Ewok Song
    January 16, 2007 | 8:54 PM EST | Scott

    So my thinking is, a bunch of guys were sitting around their buddy’s apartment finishing off the seventh case of Corona and the 3rd sausage and double cheese pizza when one of them says;

“Hey, wouldn’t it have been funny if the Ewok song was done by a barbershop quartet?” to which his buddies reply “DUDE, that would rock, I’ve got a camcorder and some straw hats, let’s do it!…’hic.”

That’s the only explanation I can come up with as to how ANYONE can possibly think barbershop quartet and Star Wars can go well together, but then Jim Morrison wrote his best stuff while his perception of reality was…similarly altered, so there ya go.

Click to behold genius in action and a big thanks to Scott O. for the heads-up on this one…

And as always, if you want to discuss any YakTube entry, hit THIS THREAD in our forums.

NOTE: The above schedule is tentative, as International American Toy Fair and Celebration IV may cause changes in the weeks and months ahead.

Thank you for the continued enthusiasm and participation in Hasbro’s Star Wars Q&A program.”

There ya go guys. But please don’t that let that stop you from sending in those QUESTIONS. We always need ’em.

Toyguide Update: VTSC George Lucas (Stormtrooper)
    January 15, 2007 | 9:42 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue this morning with the addition of the mailaway George Lucas (in Stormtrooper Disguise). I finally got around to mailing in my certificate for this figure in October and received it last week. (Nothing like waiting ’til the last minute.) This figure is based off of the Commtech Stormtrooper, but obviously this version is with the director’s younger likeness (from 30 years ago) and includes a removable helmet and standard issue imperial blaster. As you remember, this figure was initially obtainable by redeeming the five different stickers from the VTSC figures available at retail. The promotion was later modified and extended to allow any 5 stickers to be redeemed.

Toyguide Update: Republic Commando Delta Squad
    January 15, 2007 | 9:04 AM EST | Jayson

The Geonosian are repaints of previously released figures as well – those being #016 Sun Fac, (x2) and the #02/15 Geonosian Warrior. For loads of photos, clicky the image above.

Imperial Shuttles for less than a Jackson?
    January 12, 2007 | 1:32 PM EST | Jayson

    From Yak Reader Lester…

If you’re still lucky enough to find one of these at a Target store, you had better get it while you can. I checked out the toy section at a local Target store here in Charleston, SC this morning and they had all of their clearance toys marked down to 75% off. I went to one of the scanners and punched in the DPCI for the Imperial Shuttle just for kicks, and it came up on clearance for $14.99! They don’t have any here at the 4 stores around here, but just wanted to pass on this bit of info if anyone wants to check out their local Target store. If the store doesn’t have one of the scanners where you can punch in the DPCI number in yourself, just ask Customer Service or one of the floor associates to see if they can assist you. Hey, they just may have one in the back that someone forgot to put out or something. Doesn’t hurt to try. Just in case, the DPCI # is 087-06-0483.

YakTube – Art Of The Saber
    January 10, 2007 | 2:51 PM EST | Scott

OK, we all know there is an egregious amount of fan films out there featuring fat guys in cloaks showing off their…let’s say for lack of a better word…skills…with a lightsaber.

Well once in a while along comes the real deal. These guys’ mojo with a saber has to be seen to be believed. In addition to the nice saber FX, it’s even a bit of a tearjerker to boot.

I also opened up a thread in our forums where you can discuss each week’s YakTube entry. Check it out HERE.

2007 Master Replica Pre-Orders… RIGHT NOW
    January 10, 2007 | 12:03 PM EST | Mark

Over at Master Replicas there are new pre-orders..

Ringed by many moons, the remote sanctuary of Utapau plays host to the ever-mobile Separatist Council. Buried deep within one of the planet’s numerous life sustaining sinkholes, the assembled trade and commerce barons of the Confederacy of Independent Systems have set up a secret base-of-operations.

When the audacious attempt to kidnap Supreme Chancellor Palpatine is foiled by Jedi knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, General Greivous, cunning leader of the droid armies, retreats to Utapau to lay low. Here, surrounded by thousands of droids, and with no resistance from the peaceful, subdued Utapauns, Grievous hopes to remain hidden.

When a Republican intelligence unit intercepts a diplomatic packet from the Chairman of the Utapaun system, General Grievous’ hiding place is revealed. Immediately, the Jedi council dispatch General Obi-Wan Kenobi and his clone forces to Utapau to capture Grievous and end the Clone Wars. But events on Coruscant take a dramatic turn and in the depths of Utapau, Clone Commander Cody receives Order 66 and instructs his troops to open fire on a man who was once his friend, Obi Wan…

To create our 212th Attack Battalion Trooper helmet replica, Master Replicas was given the original ILM digital character files. From these we generated a 3D model to use as a master pattern to create highly accurate molds from which we produce our helmets in top quality fiberglass. The unique orange pattern of markings which distinguish this helmets from other clone forces were supplied by Lucasfilm Ltd., ensuring that your helmet accurately represents those worn on by the Clone Troopers on Utapau.

Since we used original computer renders, you can be assured that our 212th Attack Battalion Trooper Helmet is an exact replica, accurately repeating the multitude of subtle shapes and curves that make up this incredible piece of armor that bridges the gap between the Clone Trooper forces of the prequels and the Stormtroopers of the classic trilogy.

The 212th Attack Battalion Helmet will be strictly limited to 1,000 units worldwide.

The 212th Attack Battalion Helmet will retail for $399 and will be available for pre-order beginning on January 10, 2007 at 9 am PST for members of the 2006 and 2007 MR Collectors Society! It will be made available to the general public for pre-order the following day, Janauary 11, 2007 at 9 am PST.

    ALSO available NOW to pre-order

Since Master Replicas released the very first Force FX Lightsaber in 2002, fans have been clamoring for a Yoda Force FX. Unfortunately, due to the small size of Yoda’s hilt, Master Replicas’ team of product designers and engineers have been unable to fit all of the necessary light and sound technology in place to create a “realistic” Yoda FX that would live up to the standards of its predecessors – that is, until now! With recent breakthroughs in Force FX technology, we are pleased to announce that the Yoda Force FX Lightsaber has become a reality!

Since Yoda was created digitally for the prequel trilogy, his lightsaber was also a digital construct. And so, Lucasfilm once again granted Master Replicas engineers access to the ILM computer files and reference images, allowing for the creation of the most authentic, realistic Force FX lightsaber possible. While the Yoda Force FX Lightsaber is smaller than anything released to date – measuring roughly 33-inches (including the blade), versus average Force FX which measures 44 inches – remember, as Yoda taught us, “Size Matters Not!”

And of course, the Yoda Force FX features:
    • An enhanced glowing green blade with realistic power-up and power-down light effects. The power-up and power-down light effects are produced by a string of 64 super-bright LEDs that ignite sequentially inside the blade.
    • Five motion sensor controlled sound effects digitally recorded from the movie: power-up, idle hum, swing, clash, and power-down.
    • 3 built-in motion sensors for super sensitivity: 2 for detecting movement and 1 for detecting the impact of the blade.
    • A durable metal hilt looks and feels like a real lightsaber.
    • A sturdy blade is permanently attached to the hilt.

Add the weapon of the greatest Jedi in the Galaxy – wise, old Master Yoda – to your collection today!

Toyguide Update: Comic Pack #2 – Vader & Rebel Officer
    January 10, 2007 | 11:03 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue with the addition of Comic Pack #2. This funky set, with decos inspired by the illustrations from Star Wars Comic #1, includes Darth Vader with Interrogation Droid (originally released in the Commtech assortment) in the POTF2 line and the Rebel Officer (originally released as the Rebel Trooper) in the POTJ line.

Toyguide Update: #060 Clone Trooper (Sergeant)
    January 9, 2007 | 1:30 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates roll on with the addition of Clone Trooper (Sergeant) A welcome addition for me to the clone ranks, as I am a big fan on the EII Clone design. This figure revisits the super articulated mold from the 03/#50 Clone Trooper. And Kudos to Hasbro for painting on that red light on the back of the helmet fin. FYI: this figure includes an ESB base rather than the proper AOTC base – no word yet if this oversight will be corrected.

    Utapau Airborne Trooper
    January 9, 2007 | 11:53 AM EST | Jayson

Our friends at Jedi Defender have posted an sweet hi-res close up of the upcoming ’07 Utapau Airborne Trooper. Although we got this figure originally as part of the Mace Windu Attack Battalion, this one sports the movie accurate orange deco. Check it out!

Toyguide Update: #059 Clone Trooper (5th Fleet Security)
    January 9, 2007 | 8:16 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue with the addition of Clone Trooper (5th Fleet Security)Another clone that didn’t see screen time, though Hasbro did produce a clone with this deco before in one of the ROTS Clone Trooper 3 packs.

    OT Review
    January 8, 2007 | 9:38 PM EST | Mark

OK, So we all know in 1977 the movie Star Wars was released.. it was that year that people we actually starting to feel comfortable going back into the water.. because just TWO years earlier.. this wonderful creature scared all the people out of the water..

Please take a moment to look over the review I have put together for this absolutely perfect scaled replica of one of the scariest creatures to ever swim onto the big screen.. Sideshow has out done themselves with this maquette!

Toyguide Update: #058 R5-J2 (Imperial Astromech)
    January 8, 2007 | 3:34 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue with the addition of R5-J2. Who doesn’t love astro-droids? This unit was briefly seen in the background in ROTJ aboard the Death Star, where he/it ultimately met his maker after its destruction.

Toyguide Update: #057 Clone Trooper (442nd Siege)
    January 8, 2007 | 3:28 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue with the addition of Clone Trooper (442nd Siege Battalion). While not getting any actual “screen-time”, the deco for this figure is based off of ILM concept sketches, which eventually led to the Utapau Clone Trooper design. Enjoy!

    YakTube – “Wonderboy” Kenobi
    January 4, 2007 | 4:05 PM EST | Scott

“The D” and Star Wars, who’dve thunk they’d fit together like so much peanut butter and chocolate?

Check out this mash-up of Tenacious D’s “Wonderboy” with a montage of clips from AOTC and ROTS. It’s spooky-cool the way some of the lyrics match the action in the vid.
