Star Wars On 1 vs. 100
June 30, 2007 | 7:29 PM EST | Bill

Last night’s 1 vs. 100 had a Star Wars Trivia Question:

Which Star Wars character would not be able to ride Disney’s Star Tours ride because of its 40 inch minimum height requirement:

Chewbacca
C-3PO
Yoda

While I’m sure all of our readers know the answer and say this was waaaay too easy, we’ll have an update tomorrow not only with the answer, but a joke based on it!

Star Wars Force Unleashed Hero Figure Pack
June 23, 2007 | 2:11 PM EST | Justin2

According to this listing at Toysrus.com, it looks like Hasbro will be releasing some sort of deluxe set of figures from the upcoming Force Unleashed video game.

The site is saying these will begin shipping by 8/10/07, but take that with a grain of salt as the game itself has been pushed back to early 2008, and Hasbro has said that the figures they are producing for the game will also be pushed back.

Kubrick News Galore
June 23, 2007 | 7:25 AM EST | Jayson

The intrepid team at JediDefender have gotten word from this weekend’s Parco Museum Show in Japan which showcased a starship load of new Kubrick products. In what is sure to be a divisive and inevitable move, the Prequel Trilogy will be prominently featured in the next 2 series.

Series 8 covers Episode I and consists of: Anakin Skywalker (Pod Racer), Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Maul (w/o Sith Robe), Battle Droid, Queen Amidala and C-3PO.

Series 9 covers Episode II and consists of: Anakin Skywalker, Count Dooku, Jango Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Clonetrooper (White) and Yoda.

But that’s not all! Also shown was a new Kubrick Prequel 5-Pack with Super Battle Droid, Jango Fett (Rocket Pack Version), Padme Amidala (EII), TC-14, and Clonetrooper Captain (Red Designation).

Want more? Okay. Also revealed was a Darth Maul with Sith Speeder Set(similar to the Biker Scout with Speeder Bike Set). The Darth Maul differs from the Series 8 version as this one includes his Sith Robes from the encounter on Tatooine.

There is also going to be a Shadow Guard which for those who don’t know is essentially a Black Version of the Red Emperor’s Royal Guard. Which will probably end up being a carded show exclusive somewhere down the road.

And finally, as a nod to the bootleg figures from the vintage line, a Uzay Blue Star figure. The Uzay Blue Stars were essentially Blue Snowtroopers and were released overseas in Turkey.

VTAC Revision Case Assortment Update
June 21, 2007 | 2:50 AM EST | Justin2

According to Entertainment Earth a revision case of vintage style figures will be available in July.

If their numbers are correct, this assortment will contain SIX Snowtroopers. However, the totals they show only account for 11 figures in a case, not 12.

Now with extra Snowtrooper Action Figures! Expertly crafted for the action figure fan of 2007, this case of 12 individually packaged 3 3/4-inch Action Figures in retro-styled premium packaging includes: 1x Princess Leia Organa (Battle Poncho), 6x Imperial Stormtrooper (Hoth Battle Gear, aka Snowtrooper), 1x Luke Skywalker (Bespin Fatigues), 1x Han Solo (Hoth Battle Gear), 1x Bossk, and 1x IG-88. (Subject to change.)

This is very good news for all you army builders out there and hopefully shows that Hasbro is listening more to the demand for such figures that collectors are catering for… next up, Death Star Playset (yeah don’t you wish!)!!!

Anyone besides me surprised they are doing this, yet happy? Discuss in theforums!

After a long drought of Kubrick news, Medicom reveals a slew of new product that will be for sale in Japan at this weekend’s Parco Museum Show.

First up is a carded set of Bounty Hunters; All six Kubricks from Series 1 are getting the carded treatment and though a Boba Fett has been offered in a carded form before, this one is the ROTJ chase variant in which he has 2 red gauntlets. Also, a 5-pc. tribe of Be@rbrick Ewoks is being released; included are Paploo, Chief Chirpa, Teebo, Lumat and Romba. And if that wasn’t enough, a 400% scale Paploo is also being released and is limited to 2007 pieces.

Customizer Spotlight – Owen D.
June 20, 2007 | 1:48 AM EST | Justin2

Our latest customizing spotlight goes to Owen D., one of the true masters in the art of customizing for his amazing Arctic Beast custom (something I personally wish Hasbro would have put out with a couple of Galactic Marines and Commander Keller rather than the TRU Bantha repack).

Check out more images after the jump!

Episode 95: 1997 and a Major Toy Run
June 19, 2007 | 7:14 PM EST | Jayson

A collector should be one who helps others. That’s the peace, love, and collecting motto Marjorie and Arnie have been trying to spread for nearly 100 episodes. This week they put their gas money where their mouths are and go on a massive 16 hour toy run not to see what they can get for themselves, but what they can get for others. They took the microphone along and recorded the results of hitting Targets and Wal Marts and Starbucks (Oh My!).
Also this week Marjorie fondly recalls her first Star Wars collectibles that came out in conjunction with the Star Wars Special Edition movies. And it wasn’t something you could buy in stores…

You can download this week’s show from www.swactionnews.com or directly from here.

Hasbro Confirms UGH List
June 19, 2007 | 6:05 PM EST | Jayson

Hasbro officially confirms all 12 UGH Gold Coin Chase Figures in our QnA this week. Not only that, they clarify the Case Asortments they are packed in. Here’s the skinny.

There will be four ratios, each with three of the gold foil logo/coin UGH variants.

87500000H Galactic Marine, R2-D2 and Mace Windu
87500000J Concept Stormtrooper, Han Solo and Luke (Yavin Ceremony)
87500000K Concept Boba Fett, Darth Vader and Biggs (X-Wing)
87500000U Concept Chewbacca, Animated Boba Fett and Airborne Trooper

It should be noted that the Animated Boba Fett will be in each of the ratios as a regular figure in addition to the 000U ratio. Basically, the UGH series will be waved in with almost the entire Wave 4 run, but then we will be chasing higher-demand figures (like the Animated Boba Fett and McQuarrie Vader) in subsequent waves throughout the year.

Toyguide Update: Order 66 Vader & Commander Bow
June 17, 2007 | 8:22 AM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates today with the addition of the Target Exclusive Order 66 Set 3 of 6: Darth Vader and Commander Bow The 501st Legion continues to expand with the addition of Commander Bow which is essentially a Clone Commander repainted with the 501st designation. Vader is a repack of the Evolutions sculpt, but this time the helmet is glued down over Anakin’s head which is cast in black plastic. I managed to pick up a half dozen of these sets when they hit $2.48 in the clearance aisle talk about a quick way to bolster the Clone ranks.

Toyguide Update: Saga Legends Shock Trooper
June 16, 2007 | 5:29 PM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates continue with the addition of the Shock Trooper in the Saga Legends line. The SA Shock Trooper finally makes his basic carded debut after being packed with the Target Exclusive Skirmish in the Senate Battle Pack. This one will surely be a favorite for army builders, plus Emperor Palpatine and Commander Thire need premium sculpt Shock Troopers to dispatch!

Toyguide Update: Saga Legends Darth Maul
June 16, 2007 | 5:23 PM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates continue with the addition of Darth Maul in the Saga Legends line. This sculpt of the Sith Lord was first available way back in the deluge days of Episode I products and packed alongside the Sith Speeder. Wow, sculpting and articulation technology sure has come a long way in the past 9 years.

Toyguide Update: Saga Legends Battle Droids
June 16, 2007 | 5:16 PM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates today with the addition of the Battle Droids 2-pack in the Saga Legends line. One of four planned variants to the Battle Droids is featured here, this set includes your standard issue Battle Droid and a Battle Droid Commander that at first glance looks like OOM-9, but this version doesn’t have the smaller antenna accessory. The sculpt used for both Battle Droids is the one from the Saga C-3PO with Droid Factory Assembly Line Deluxe Set. Do yourself a favor and get some display bases for these two as their legs are extremely rubbery and pliable. And for those keeping track, this set includes the Episode I: The Phantom Menace movie coin.

Toyguide Update: Saga Legends Clone Trooper (ROTS)
June 14, 2007 | 5:28 PM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates continue today with the addition of the ROTS Clone Trooper in the Saga Legends line. While at first glance this figure might seem to be a straight repack – it isn’t. This version sports a minty fresh, non-battle damaged deco. Although an all-white EIII Clone never made an official appearance on screen, this is probably what they looked like before heading down to the Republic paint booth for those unit specific accents : P

Toyguide Update: Saga Legends Clone Trooper (AOTC)
June 14, 2007 | 5:23 PM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates continue today with the addition of the AOTC Clone Trooper in the Saga Legends line. It’s been a while since the all white version has graced the pegs and it’s a welcomed return for me as I rarely saw these when they originally hit back in the Clone Wars days. Also, the Saga Legends line includes a movie specific coin rather than the character specific coin as in the basic TAC figure line.

Click on the photos above for the full image gallery.

Toyguide Update: #07 Obi-Wan & Alpha Comic Pack
June 14, 2007 | 4:36 PM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates continue with the addition of the Obi-Wan Kenobi and ARC Trooper “Alpha” Comic Pack. This EU set treats us 2 semi new figures: a kitbashed Obi-Wan based on the often-released “Pilot” sculpt and a nice SA ARC Trooper. The Obi-Wan includes an alternate “Sith Mask” head and the ARC Trooper features a removable helmet although it has a non-movable rangefinder. : (

Toyguide Update: #05 Quinlan Vos and Villie Comic Pack
June 14, 2007 | 4:23 PM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates today with the addition of the Quinlan Vos and Vilmarh Grahrk Comic Pack. This EU set giveth us 2 new figures the amnesiatic Jedi Quinlan Vos and the Devonarian thug Vilmarh “Villie” Grahrk. Everything from the waist up on these two are really pretty good but they lack any significant leg, knee or ankle articulation which pretty much necessitates the use of a base/figure stand (especially for Vos) to display them in any sort of dramatic pose.

UPDATE: Kashyyyk AT-RT Patrol Twin Pack
June 14, 2007 | 2:05 PM EST | Jayson

There is an new item showing up in overseas online store listings. It’s a battle pack of sorts dubbed “Kashyyyk AT-RT Patrol Twin Pack”. This new battle pack features two AT-RT’s (All Terrain Recon Transport) with three Kashyyyk troopers. This will probably be packaged similarly to the Treachery on Saleucami Battle Pack. No photos have surfaced yet, but we’ll post it when it surfaces. It is scheduled for release 7/31/07 for $29.99

Thanks to YakReader “PaulSkywalker” for the tip.

UPDATE: This set was part of the Target DCPI list (#087-06-0343 – AT-RT Assault Squad) that was making the rounds back in early May. It is rumored to be shown at next month’s SDCC. Thanks to my pal Jeff from JediDefender for the reminder and additional info.

As you’ve probably heard, recent orders placed with HasbroToyShop.com for the the CIV McQuarrie Luke have triggered many problems. The latest issue is that emails are being sent out that ALL ORDERS have been canceled – even those orders that were confirmed by calling Hasbro Customer Service line (1-800-408-0052) by the June 9 deadline. I received the cancellation email (after I confirmed my purchase last week) but my Credit Card was charged yesterday for my order. Obviously, your situation may vary, but I suggest calling the Hasbro CS number and re-confirm the status of your order. The saga continues…

Legacy of the Force Sacrifice Reviewed
June 10, 2007 | 10:45 AM EST | Bill

OK, it’s been a little over a week since the latest installment of the 9 novel Legacy of the Force Series hit shelves, so it’s time to bring a relatively spoiler free review of the book. Sacrifice marks the half-way point in the Legacy of the Force Series. Karen Traviss’ writing style continues to sync perfectly with Allston and Denning. The approach of having three authors who are already very comfortable in the Star Wars Universe trading off writing duties throgh the course of the series is working extremely well. They styles mesh so that on picking up this novel, you are already emmersed back into the the Post New Jedi Order world, right where Exile left off.

This novel focuses around Jacen’s evolution into a Dark Lord, and really has a much smaller cast of characters than the Dramatis Personae would suggest. In fact, the action really centers on Jacen, Ben Skywalker, Mara, Luke, Boba Fett and a few Mandaloreans, with what could best be described as cameos by Jaina, Cal Omas, Leia, Han and others. Many of these Cameos are almost completely “off-screen”, and are mentioned in the context of a comlink communication.

Traviss brings us deeper into the world and mindset of the Mando, as she started in her Repulic Commando series, and as such Boba Fett fans will want to read this novel for that reason alone. There is also an extremely well written subplot focused on Fett’s latest challenge (the one you read about in Exile and before), which is coming to a climax, as well as how Mandaloran society functions. She even brings back a now very old Mandalorean’s best friend from the Repulic Commando series. Oh, and there’s a major homage to a certain scene in the Empire Strikes Back involving Boba Fett which lays the groundwork for us to see another whole side of Fett in the future. This is completely in addition to the new Boba Fett, Statesman which surfaces in Mandalore.

In keeping the review relatively spoiler free we won’t tell you Jacen’s new Sith name (which was announced on Star Wars.com to be revealed in this novel), however it is revealed on the last page of the book. In addition, Traviss does an outstanding job of keeping both the reader and even Jacen guessing as to who and what his sacrifice will be. In true Sith fashion, even once the act is done, its meaning is not readily apparent, and Jacen’s final insight into its meaning will have very profound implications for the long term future of the Star Wars Universe.

This was an excellent novel, and I highly recommend it.

They also have a special segment from one of the recent winners of the contest to visit Industrial Lights & Magic, our own JediLarryB. Larry reports back about all the things he can legally talk about seeing at ILM along with a ton of photos from his visit.

In addition, you’d think it was Star Wars’ birthday with all the new product coming out from an R2-D2 trash can to a $5,000 bronze Darth Vader. Arnie and Marjorie run it all down in this week’s episode of Star Wars Action News!

You can download this week’s show from www.swactionnews.com or directly from here.

Luke Skywalker Yavin Ceremony Saber Variant
June 4, 2007 | 2:29 PM EST | Jayson

Reports around the web are that a “corrected” version of the Yavin Ceremony Luke is starting to hit retail. While I have yet to see this “correction” personally, I have seen the photos, and the correction is purely cosmetic. What Hasbro’s paint shop has done is omitted the black accent on the band and the emitter portions on the sculpt of the Vader lightsaber hilt. So, what we are left with is essentially an Episode II version of Anakin’s Saber NOT the correct Anakin EIII/Luke EIV saber hilt.

This “corrected” hilt is also the one that is currently shipping on the belt of the #18 Luke Skywalker (Moisture Farmer) from Wave 3.

While these type of errors don’t matter or unknown to a good portion of collectors, it is just one of my major pet peeves. Sorry for the rant. : P
