Episode 216: A Lego A Day For Those In UK
October 13, 2009 | 3:52 PM EST | Jayson

It seems like it’s been years while we awaited the new Star Wars novel coming out this week–Deathtroopers, and while the book jacket certainly looked grusome enough, evoking images of Hellraiser’s Pinhead going to town on the Emperor’s troops, and the thought was so exciting to some costumers that zombie stormtroopers could be seen walking the floor at San Diego Comic Con. But for all the hype, including exclusive “letters from the Imperial Prison Barge Purge” published on our own site, there has been some nervousness in the fan community about this title. A Sci-Fi horror mashup? Those sometimes work (Pitch Black) but often don’t (Leprechan in Space), and for Star Wars fans the question has been–is this book the dawning of a new type of Star Wars fiction, or doomed to be a failed experiment? With the book in stores this week, Star Wars Action News brings you their in depth spoiler free review of this novel, so you can listen and find out if this is the perfect way to Star Wars up your Halloween horror reading.

Also in new releases, there is a new Star Wars video game out, Clone Wars: Republic Heroes. While there seems to be a lot of hype coming from official sources surrounding this game, many people felt the downloadable demo was less than spectacular. With the final game released, Star Wars Action News gives the PS3 version of the game a full review.

With talk of the latest, best, and most exclusive Star WArs Halloween costumes, a day by day run down of the free UK Lego sets, and a look at the vintage remote control R2-D2, it’s all this week on Star Wars Action News!

And if you enjoy Star Wars Action News, please support the show by nominating them for a Podcast Award! Episode 215: Two Clones One Ball
October 7, 2009 | 10:03 PM EST | Jayson

While the new red packaged toys continue to show up in ever-larger numbers, perhaps one of the hottest items is still in blue–the Clone Turret Battle Pack. With Hasbro having said that this item is not planned on being rereleased, perhaps ever, due to the new smaller battle pack size, this is one item collectors can’t miss out on. The hosts of Star Wars Action News finally got their hands on some of these balls, but are they worth the hunt? Listen to find out

Also this week, the latest prop replica from eFX Collectibles, the Ahsoka Tano Lightsaber, has been shipping. It’s sold out from eFX Directly but still available at Brian’s Toys. Should you rush to get your hands on this first high-end Clone Wars prop? Arnie and Marjorie review it and let you know!

With a news round-up, your voice mails, listener questions, and a Hasbro Q&A, it’s all on this week’s Star Wars Action News Podcast!

You can download this week’s show here or use the direct link: Audio or Enhanced Versions.

AOTC Wave at Kohl’s
October 7, 2009 | 10:01 PM EST | Justin2

If you’re still looking for the AOTC wave with the elusive concept Anakin or needing a figure to finish off your HK Build-A-Droid, you might want to swing by a Kohl’s store.

Although the price of basic figures there is pricey, they do have a sale going on right now for $9.49. Not the best deal, but perhaps worth it if you’ve exhausted other resources looking for this wave.

Thanks to Yakface reader Darth Stringfield for the tip.

SWAN Helping Out a Great Cause
October 2, 2009 | 9:13 AM EST | Jayson

Twelve months out of the year Star Wars Action News works to help Star Wars collectors. But one month out of the year they also take a step back and try to help a great cause–the search for a cure for Breast Cancer.

Both Marjorie and Arnie have lost immediate family members to breast cancer, and just now the fact that men, as well as women, can be afflicted with this deadly disease is getting the spotlight.

To help raise funds, they are participating in the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk. Marjorie’s team is the “Second Base All Stars”. We would love it if you would become a sponsor of this team. Even if it’s just the cost of a single action figure, every little bit helps. All donations are handled right at the American Cancer Society site.

And also in the next week, Arnie will be selling an item from his collection on eBay to raise funds for the walk as well. You can find out all the details about the auction on next Monday’s episode ofStar Wars Action News.

Even if you can’t donate, please, during October, do something to help this cause. Join in the walk yourself, or even just wear pink (men, pink shirts and ties ARE acceptable).

Diorama Spotlight – “Caught in the Middle – Order 66”
October 2, 2009 | 12:03 AM EST | Justin2

A group of collectors in the Chicago area worked together recently to create a diorama for the Hasbro Diorama Contest and did a fantastic job in coming together with this, and we wish them the best of luck in the results.

The diorama focuses on the infamous moment when the Republic’s clone troopers turn on their Jedi Generals – check out a variety of pics of this impressive collaboration here.
