Toyguide Update: CW32 Clone Commander Thire
March 31, 2010 | 8:33 AM CST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with more backfilling of a few older waves from the Clone Wars line. We continue with the next figure from wave 9 – Clone Commander Thire.

PROS: It’s a “new” clone to add to you ever growing clone ranks. The new dual holster belt is neat too.

CONS: By “new” I mean it’s a repaint of a previously released Lt. Thire from the Walmart Exclusive “Ambush” Two pack, so the deco differences might not be enough to warrant a second purchase for the average collector.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and “Yak Facts” to judge for yourself whether this figure is worth adding to your collection if you haven’t already.

New “Chase” figures coming in 2010?
March 30, 2010 | 1:07 PM CST | Michael

The guys over at rebelscum.com have posted an interesting list in their 2010 Vintage Collectionphoto archive. Under the complete checklist we see a new listing for: “Antique Force Detail” Collection. Early thoughts/speculation leans towards these being repacked figures in possible vintage deco on vintage cards? Remember..nothing official until Hasbro confirms. Does give us something to ponder……… APRIL FOOL’S!

Toyguide Update: CW31 Captain Argyus
March 30, 2010 | 8:33 AM CST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with more backfilling of a few older waves from the Clone Wars line. We continue with the next figure from wave 9 – Captain Argyus.

PROS: The distinctive blue armor, open faced Senate Guard helmet and unique head sculpt sets this trooper apart from the sea of clone troopers in our collections.

CONS: Argyus’ signature sweeping hairdo doesn’t quite live up to its onscreen appearance due to the need to wear the Senate Guard helmet.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and “Yak Facts” to judge for yourself whether this figure is worth adding to your collection if you haven’t already.

Episode 238: Return of the Packs
March 30, 2010 | 5:12 AM CST | Jayson

When Hasbro recently announced the end of the Comic Pack line of figures, which give collectors and kids a bargain having two action figures and the comic in which they appeared for one low price, Star Wars fans were understandably upset. However, Hasbro is letting the series go out with a bang, releasing some hotly anticipated characters that factor big in the Star Wars Expanded Universe, from the comics to the novels to the video games. Figures such as Exar Kun and Blackhole make EU fans happy, while the clone 2-packs are an army-builder’s dream come true.

On this week’s Star Wars Action News, Arnie and Marjorie review the last five comic packs to be released for mass distribution, and Nathan P. Butler chimes in on comic pack collecting in relation to Star Wars stories and comic collecting.

With your voice mails and a con rundown including Star Wars Celebration V VIP tickets and C2E2 Star Wars content, it’s all this and more on this week’s Star Wars Action News!

New Midi Scale Lego AT-AT Spied
March 29, 2010 | 4:27 PM CST | Jayson

The brick addicts at Eurobrick.com have posted as sneak peek of what looks to be a new Midi Scale AT-AT Walker (8129) over in their forums. Toyguide Update: CW30 Luminara Unduli
March 29, 2010 | 11:09 AM CST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with some backfilling of a few older waves from the Clone Wars line. We start things off with Luminara Unduli from Wave 9 (or wave 6 depending on your method of tracking).

PROS: This all new figure ranks with the best of the best Clone Wars figures as Luminara has superb articulation in areas that a Jedi of her talents would demand. The utilization of the soft good skirt goes a long way in giving this figure the widest range of poses possible.

CONS: The extra hilt can’t be attached to her belt so it might be lost in the bottom of your toy box rather easily.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and “Yak Facts” to judge for yourself whether this figure is worth adding to your collection if you haven’t already.

Those sabers are long since sold out, but for those who are still looking to have these sabers represented in their collection eFX Collectibles stunt sabers are now out. For collectors looking for a less expensie prop replica, costumers wanting a lightweight saber on their belt, or people who missed out on these sabers the first time, these are shipping now. Also this week, Arnie interviews Backlash author Aaron Allston, Steve reports on Star Wars in Concert in the UK, and Marjorie and Arnie review a new Uncle Milton item!

Toyguide Update: CW50 Captain Rex (Cold Assault Gear)
March 16, 2010 | 6:40 AM CST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with the addition of Captain Rex in Cold Assault Gear – the final figure in the last wave of the Clone Wars before the new packaging switchover in August.

This all new figure was begging to be made after we saw the “Trespass” episode and, for the most part, it’s fairly faithful to that model. Some collectors may be disappointed that it doesn’t have ankle joints or a removable helmet revealing Rex’s face but over all, this is a solid figure.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and “Yak Facts” to judge for yourself whether this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: CW49 MagnaGuard
March 15, 2010 | 8:40 PM CST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with the addition of General Grievous’ MagnaGuard – the next figure in the last wave of the Clone Wars before the new packaging switchover in August.

This version of the MagnaGuard is a partial retool/repaint of the original MagnaGuard from 2008. It features a new head, soft goods cape and all new legs and hips adding several levels of articulation not present on the previous version.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and “Yak Facts” to judge for yourself whether this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: CW48 Obi-Wan Kenobi (Cold Weather Gear)
March 15, 2010 | 12:59 PM CST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with the addition of Obi-Wan Kenobi (in Cold Weather Gear) – the next figure in the last wave of the Clone Wars before the new packaging switchover in August.

Despite its outward appearance, this version of Obi-Wan is an all-new figure and is not a repaint of the Cold Weather Gear Anakin Skywalker.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and “Yak Facts” to judge for yourself whether this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: CW47 Firefighter Droid
March 15, 2010 | 6:36 AM CST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of the Firefighter Droid – the first figure in the last wave of the Clone Wars before the new packaging switchover in August.

The Firefighter Droid is a real bear get to stand without a base for assistance due to the weight of the backpack and hose. The battle droid features a new head sculpt and new lower arms that allow for not only elbow movement but they also swivel at that joint too for better two handed grasping of a blaster and/or firehose nozzle*. With some twisting, you can get the nozzle to attach to the backpack via a “magazine/clip” on either side, leaving his hands free for carrying his standard issue blaster. *The nozzle has a pivoting lever to simulate opening/closing the nozzle valve.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and “Yak Facts” to judge for yourself whether this figure is worth adding to your collection.

The Star Wars Collectors Archive Podcast
March 6, 2010 | 12:59 PM CST | Jayson

If you’ve got a bent for all-things-vintage Star Wars and want to drop in on some hardcore collector discussion of 12-backs, Brazilian Vlixes, and C-3PO Underoos (fear not — the hosts keep the discussion accessible for beginners — however, if Underoos need to be explained to you, better do some brushing up on your kid-skivvy history), check out the new Star Wars Collectors Archive Podcast, or “Chive Cast” for short.

Hosted by Skye Paine and Stephen B. Danley, the first entry in this new series has a healthy dose of vintage discussion but also touches on Celebration V, Hasbro’s new Vintage Collection, focus collectors, and a new Jawa collector site.
