Cinema Scene Update
posted by Tarpals @ 12:10 pm (1/31)

As we get closer to Toy Fair 2000, it seems even more likely, if not almost certain, that the classic Star Wars cinema scenes are indeed dead, as reported recently by figuresinaction.com. Darthcloud, who works at a TRU store, wrote in to say that they cannot reorder the Classic Cinema Scenes (Rebel Pilots and Skiff Guards). Episode One, however, seem to be available to them, and so we might see more of them at Toy Fair. Be patient just a little longer 🙂

MORE Video News
posted by Tarpals @ 5:20 pm (1/30)

You can pre-order the collectors widescreen edition of the video now at Amazon.com – their price is 25% off retail.
Sax1panam wrote in to say that his Best Buy store in South Texas told him that you get the Insider’s Guide CD-ROM when you pick up the video rather than when you reserve it.

Update: I got two reports, from Brad and A.J., who both got the Insider’s Guide when they pre-ordered the video. It doesn’t come in the normal retail box, but comes in a sleeve. Click here to see a scan Brad sent in.

Update: Here’s what is definitely the best price around just now for the Collector’s Edition of the video: BUY.com have it in for $24.99, but you can use this coupon to get $10 off, and the total is $18.94 including shipping. Great deal – thanks to sHa for the news!
Jedi Joe sent in this bit of info on buy.com:
“Just a note to let you know about buy.com. I have a dvd player and have ordered dvds from them. Buy.com can be cheap but they are very slow, I wouldn’t expect to get EP1 on the April 4 street date from buy.com; sometimes it takes up to 3 weeks to get your order. What I have done is order fromreel.com. The collectors edition is $33 but if you use a $10 off coupon it would only be 23 plus 1.95 shipping.”
You can use this $10 code: REELWEST – Matt Stone contributed this recently, but that news item seems to have vanished!

Update 2: sHa sent in this about Buy.com, against what’s said above:
“I too have a DVD player and have used both BUY.COM and REEL.COM to order DVD’s – this guy’s report is completely untrue – I have noticed NO difference in speed or expedition of delivery between the two. In fact last month I ordered the South Park DVD on a Monday morning and had it Thursday morning via Priority Mail (standard Buy.com shipping). Sure, his orders might have taken awhile but don’t brand BUY.COM as taking forever to ship because of one guys order, because with at least 10 DVD and computer game purchases from BUY, I have had ZERO delays or hassles.
Besides that – can anyone ordering online expect to receive their item on the street date of the 4th ? My understanding is that they will not be able to ship UNTIL the street date, although I could be mistaken here.”

Update 2: OK, more e-mail from others who now disagree with sHa. Let’s just say that it’s a great price, but there is a chance it might not get to you as instantly as you might like. If that bothers you – there are many many other places to order.

Jar Jar (Naboo Swamp) Commtech Lines
posted by Tarpals @ 11:15 am (1/30)

Taztaztaz sent in the Commtech lines for Jar Jar, to follow on from the Qui-Gon and Destroyer Droid lines posted earlier. Since the lines are not printed on the card back, you can appreciate that trying to understand Jar Jar’s lines is no easy task!! So this is certainly what is sounded like to Taztaztaz:
“HaWu”
“Have you Ta Bu Visir Val”
“Me sir Jar Ha (or Hug)”
“Exqueeze me….. We should go into the water O Key Day”
As I say, this really must have been hard to understand!! If any readers speak good Gungan (!!) and think they could decipher this, please drop me a line!

Update: Attempt number one (and it looks pretty good to me) comes from Scumdog45. Possibilities for these lines are:
HaWu= How Wude
Have you Ta Bu Visar Val= Mesa take you to da bosses now (?)
Me sir Jar Ha= Mesa Jar Jar
And the last one is pretty self-explanitory.
If you think you can improve on that, write in!

Update 2: We’ve established that “HaWu” is “How Wude”. And John Steede sent in this idea: “The “Have you Ta Bu Visir Val” might have been a yell like when the jedi and the pathetic lifeform go to Ohta Gunga. That really high pitched yell Jar Jar makes when entering the water? Maybe it is a sound the fish makes?” Ok, so we’ve got everything here, even fish Commtech lines 🙂 Will we ever find out what these are?

New Wave: Commtech Lines
posted by Tarpals @ 6:55 am (1/30)

As of the new Classic Motti wave, Star Wars figures are not going to have their Commtech lines printed on their card backs. The Fan Club Wuher figure (at least the first version) does have this printed. There is a piece of black tape, presumably covering an unnecessary warning label, on the Wuher preview photo card front, which means there’s an error on the card. If they changed it during production it is possible that they could remove the chip lines as well. But don’t count on it.
Anyway, here are the Commtech lines for the new Battle-Damaged Destroyer Droid and Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn (that’s the name of the soft goods Qui-Gon):

Battle Damaged Destroyer Droid:
“Master, Destroyers…<laser fire and lightsaber sounds>…They have shield generators!”
Sound of Destroyer Droid rolling, opening then firing

Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn:
“You over estimate your skills.”
“Obi-Wan he will bring balance…train him.”
“Obi-Wan, wait, we must attack in on force.”

I think it’s quite sad that they have to make up lines for Qui-Gon since he has so many lines in the movie itself.

Update: This is the case assortment that has been getting ready to ship over to the States. This is a real case assortment and not an indication given out for advance orders (the listings posted recently came from an online source that sells figures by the case). This breakdown was sent in by Taztaztaz:
1x Jar Jar Binks (Naboo Swamp) with Fish, 3x Destroyer Droid (Battle Damage), 2x Darth Maul (Tatooine), 2x Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Knight), 2x Anakin Skywalker (Naboo Pilot), 3x Darth Maul (Sith Lord), 3x Qui-Gon Jinn (Jedi Master).
The following case is the Motti wave. This has been confirmed by a few sources, Entertainment Earth, Dave Ross of Startoys and Collectables and now Taztaztaz too. Again, this case has been found in the Far East:
2x Luke Skywalker, 2x Darth Vader, 1x StormTrooper, 1x Han Solo, 3x Princess Leia, 3x Admiral Motti

Update: The following figures are shown on the backs of the new Collection 1 cards: Anakin Naboo Pilot, battle Droid, Obi-Wan Jedi Knight, Jar Jar Naboo Swamp, Maul Tatooine, Maul Sith Lord, Battle Damaged Destroyer and Jedi Master Qui-Gon. And they’re all .0000 cards.

Holographic Maul and Qui-Gon
posted by Tarpals @ 1:15 pm (1/29)

Toymaniacs have updated their site again with close-ups of the holographic Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul figures. I as hoping that their image would be big enough to see if the Maul had been improved since we saw the prototype in Action Figure News recently, but the image is broken at the moment. I’m sure it will be available again later, so check back soon. Thanks to David for the info.

Update: They’ve fixed their link. And no, Maul’s not improved.

Pre-Sell Giveaways
posted by Tarpals @ 1:15 pm (1/29)

Some news on pre-sells. Matt, who works at Best Buy, wrote in to say that they are giving away the FULL version of the Episode One: Insider’s Guide CD-ROM from Lucasarts when you reserve either video at their store! That’s a great deal, it retails for $20. Their pre-sell begins tomorrow (30th Jan) and goes on until the last week of February. Darth Mazza also wrote in backing up this info. Thanks!

TRU, in case you didn’t know, are giving away a special plastic foil video case. Thanks to “Brutal” for the info.

Gary’s Collection Sale
posted by Tarpals @ 6:00 pm (1/28)

If you wrote to Gary Weaver II about his collection sale, please hold on until the end of the week/Monday. Gary’s been hit with a family emergency, and he’s had to run for a few days. If you haven’t already, please do read the update I added to last night’s post, which regards the list of items for sale I posted.

Video Pre-sell info
posted by Tarpals @ 1:45 pm (1/28)

Some info on the pre-sell of Episode One on video. This first info comes from DarthMazza:
“I work at Best Buy and everyweek a newsletter comes out for employees called, “Retail Weekly”. In the latest, it talks of the Episode 1 presell. Best Buy will be taking two kinds of presells, the first one being the normal movie, the other is the “Collector’s Edition Presell”. The normal movie will presell for $15.99 – $19.99, I can’t remember which. The collector’s edition will presell at $29.99 including extras not found elsewhere. Each presell will go for $5.”

This next piece of info is from “wolves21”:
“I called up my local Suncoast video store to order the collectible widescreen version. I received more information from the store manager. The collectible widescreen version will not be sold in the store (Suncoast, anyway) you can only get it through the preorder. Apparently there is a very limited quantity of this collectible version made. The collectible card you get with the preorder is an unusable gift card with Darth Maul. The first 100 (not 200 as was reported) receive a pewter key chain of a light saber and you pick it up when you pick up the video.”

Also note that Starwars.com have the video up for pre-order now too, as I reported earlier today. It comes with a free poster, that is pictured on the site.

Update: Christopher Epps also wrote in about Suncoast, while he says that the Maul gift card you receive is in the value of your deposit on the video. When you come back to get the video in April, you can keep the card and you can add money to it and give it away as a gift/use it again. So, two comflicting stories on this Maul card – does anyone know for sure the real story?

Update 2: Christopher Epps sent in a scan of the card, which you can check out here. The writing is a little small, so here’s what it says:
CAN ONLY BE REDEEMED FOR STAR WARS: EPISODE 1 – THE PHANTOM MENACE VIDEO.
STAR WARS: EPISODE 1 – THE PHANTOM MENACE AVAILABLE APRIL 4, 2000.
NOT REDEEMABLE BEFORE APRIL 4, 2000
YOU WILL BE ABLE TO KEEP THIS COLLECTIBLE GIFT CARD AFTER VIDEO PURCHASE. ADDITIONAL VALUE MAY BE LOADED ON TO CARD.
CARD MAY BE USED ONLINE OR IN OVER 1300 SAM GOODY, MUSICLAND, MEDIA PLAY, ON CUE, AND SUNCOAST STORES.
TREAT THIS CARD LIKE CASH; NOT REPLACED IF STOLEN OR LOST.

Update 3: Pete S reserved his copy, and he was given a 1996 Applause Yoda figure as well. Don’t know if this is happening everywhere. (Matt Newman adds that this is the Yoda figure that was given away when you pre-ordered the Special Edition videos).

Gary’s “I Give Up” Collection sale!
posted by Tarpals @ 6:40 pm (1/27)

Gary Weaver II, whom I’m sure many of you will have heard of, has – just like hfsolo – become a little distressed about the state of the hobby just now, and he’s decided to sell of some of his collection. You can bid on parts of it over on eBay. Just hit search, and look for seller id: gw2@ix.netcom.com.

Gary sent in this info for all who’ve got in touch:

“I would like to thank everyone for their support and response. many have had genuine concerns that I am dropping Star Wars altogether. Please let me say that this in not the case. I still love Star Wars and will still continue to do custom figures and accessories (as well as a bunch of other neat things 🙂 Bottom line, I’ll still be around, don’t worry.

The demand to the sale thus far has been overwhelming to say the least 🙂 Sadly, I have not been able to respond as quickly as I might like. My printer failed last night so I was unable to cordinate everything as originaly planned. I will have th problem repaired tonight and hopefully you will hear confirmation late Friday evening. I may not be able to respond to everyone who sent a request (200-300 plus e-mails will do that to you). However, I will strive to do my best. As of right now I have requested the list pulled so I can update everything current and make the addition of some Episode 1 items. There will also, be some E1 Store displays and promo items added as well 🙂

Again, thanks for the response and I’ll seeing you soon,
Gary Weaver II”

IMPORTANT Update: Gary wrote in to say that he’s had a major family emergency and he’s not going to be available until Sunday or Monday at the earliest. Please hold on, and he will be back shortly.

Well I will say this. These past 5 years have been fun. I am leaving Yakface and moving on. I have had a great time with this page. I have enjoyed the friendships that I have made through the site. I will stay in contact and you can still email me. If you have any questions about the site feel free to drop a line to the group email above. I want to thank everyone that I have made deals with over the past 5 years. You have all helped my collecting experience in Star Wars be the best it could. It is a sad state that Star Wars collecting is in now. I have heard many repsonses from the real fans and the real fan sites that they are selling their collections as they are burnt out. The site here is staying and you can always count on the news here being trust worthy and the updates will continue to be as often as they are now.

Have a great time collecting, good luck finding what you are looking for.

Sincerely,

Hfsolo

Big K-Mart Grabs
posted by Boba Faid @ 4:10 pm (1/27)

Darth Eddie from Roanoke, Virginia, found some old figures (and I mean old – HoloFoil Luke, Monkey Faced Leia, Bespin Han, Ceremonial Luke) at his Big K-Mart for – get this – 29 cents each! Apparently, their old stock of toys had to be liquidated to make room for new 2000 merchandise. Not all were 29 cents though, some other old figures rang up to close to $6.00. This is likely not at every K-Mart, but it can never hurt to ask.

UPDATE: Philip Ayres sent in more info on the new Argos, and Index catalogues. Argos picture Soft Goods Qui-Gon and Index sho Anakin Naboo Pilot, but as far as I’m aware, they have neither just now (definitely not the Qui-Gon, it’s not out). They will, perhaps, get them in in the future. Index have Maul sabers @ £29.99 and Qui-Gon sabers for £19.99. And the figure prices have been reduced by £1 – that’s something at least – but they are tri-logos…

Battle Droid and Pit Droid packs
posted by Tarpals @ 2:20 pm (1/26)

If you pre-ordered the battle droid 2 packs from the Fan Club, you’re probably expecting them now. Sadly, these have been slightly delayed and we’re looking at early February now. The Fan Club will soon be getting in some of the new Pit Droid 2 packs as well. In case you don’t know already, for 2000 the bonus Battle Droid has been replaced with a Pit Droid. 3 different colors of droid are available – red, orange and white. Each figure that is available comes with each color of droid – so far, the only 3 figures released in these packs are the soft goods wave. That’s 3 figures, but since each figure comes with one of 3 different colored Pit Droids, that makes 9 different sets. Sadly, it seems that these Pit Droid packs won’t be coming with one of the exclusive passes, which is a shame, because they’re really cool. Thanks to Dan Madsen for the info!

ToyManiacs have posted clean, but pretty small pictures of a bi-logo version of this same 2 pack, plus carded Admiral Motti, Princess Leia and the Tatooine Skiff. They’ve also got a loose Wuher pic.

R2-D2 with hologram Leia
posted by Tarpals @ 8:40 am (1/26)

Hope you’re not as sick of hearing about this figure as I am.
Anyway, sHa pre-ordered this figure at ToyTime.com in September. Last night, he received a message that said his order would not be filled because the manufacturer had cancelled their order for the figure. R2-D2 is still shipping in some Stormtrooper cases, so if you’ve not got one yet, Hasbro have not cancelled it, and it is out there.

Update: I spoke to Dan Madsen from the Star Wars Fan Club today about this situation. he told me that the Fan Club were working on getting these in, and it’s looking quite hopeful! So don’t despair – the Fan Club may save us again – hooray!

More on Wal-Mart
posted by Tarpals @ 5:30 pm (1/25)

Mike wrote in to say that he found more Naboo Fighters at $8, Droid Fighters at $3, Ponda Baba 12″ wave for $5 each, both podracers at $6 each, and some older 12″ – Tarkin, Luke Hoth, Snowtrooper and Barquin D’an at $5 each, but in badly damaged boxes. Keep checking Wal-Mart stores, Mike’s prices dropped again yesterday. He bought a Naboo Fighter 2 days before for $11.

Update: Jedeyeben found the Theed Hanger playset – which we reported was on sale for $14 just 3 days ago – for only $5 at a Wal-Mart in Indiana.

Update 2: Sebulbadoug got the 12″ Pit Droid 2 pack for $5, even though the price on it was $9!

Target Temporary Price Cut
posted by Tarpals @ 1:50 pm (1/25)

This in from HunterESB: “I was in one of my local Target stores this morning and noticed something new. On one of the pegs was a “Temporary Price Cut” tag that lists an Episode I figure price of $4.99. The special is said to run from 1/16 to 2/5. However, when I checked a hand full of figures at the bar code scanner, only collection 1 figures kicked out the new price, all the rest (collections 2 & 3) came up at the regular price. Not the best price going, but at least it’s something.”

Update: Nathan Boyd saw this sale as well, and when the figures came up higher, he just asked and they put them in manually at $4.99. Just ask!

Jedi Knight Obi-Wan
posted by Tarpals @ 8:35 am (1/25)

An interesting observation thanks to Nalan. The Jedi Knight Obi-Wan figure has a braid in his hair…but aren’t Jedi meant to lose the braid when they become Jedi Knights? Not as if Hasbro are going to give all their figures a hair cut or anything, but interesting.

New Wuher images and Classic C-3PO to come
posted by Tarpals @ 7:00 pm (1/24)

Here are some new images of the Wuher figure:
Bubble close-up
Commtech Chip lines
Our thanks go to Droideka for the use of the images! As you can see, the Wuher Commtech chip interacts with C-3PO, so we can expect a new C-3PO this year. As for what he’ll be, who knows…we’ve had clean, dirty, removable limbs. Dirty twice! I hope it’s a new sculpt of a clean C-3PO, we could do with one. And as Boba Faid mentioned to me, it’s likely to follow in the current trend and be from A New Hope. Will he come with an Oil Bath?

UPDATE: Scott wrote in to say that a toy store owner in Atlanta recently showed him a list of upcoming toys for this year, and among them was a C-3PO – with removable limbs. Not ANH…so it doesn’t really tie in with the pattern and the Wuher interaction…but it’s a thought.

UPDATE 2: Jeffrey and Daniel wrote in to point out that in ANH 3PO loses one arm in the Sand People scene. I must have overlooked that since I was thinking about a 3PO that comes to bits. So, is this simply a Shop Worn C-3PO resulpt? I have also been told, by both Scott and Jeffrey, that this figure is on a couple of store product lists, but listed under Episode One. I don’t seem to remember 3PO with removable arm in Episode One…but hey, R2-D2 with booster rockets was cut and the Pod Race Announcer was changed… Current rumors I’m hearing are that it will have knee and elbow articulation, but these are only rumors.

A DVD Petition

David Snedigar pointed out this petition to get the Star Wars DVD made NOW. Before you groan and skip to the next post, this petition seems that it will get quite a bit of exposure to the public. It is being held jointly by 3 websites, thedigitalbits.com, dvdfile.com and askdigitalman.com, and it involves an online petition, plus an open letter addressed to George Lucas in today’s Daily Variety magazine. If we all sign this there’s a chance! Head over to show your support.

UPDATE: There are certainly plenty of names going up on this. The chances of its success aren’t high, considering what George has told the media, but hey – it’s worth a go.

Here’s one you won’t find on the shelves! Mind you the way things are going you might. Anyway, this is a custom Captain tarpals on Kaadu by George Collazo. The Tarpals figure has been modified so that he can sit on the beast, and the Kaadu has been re-decoed slightly. Check it out: Shot 1Shot 2. And one last customs list: Ashley Prester also did a custom Tarpals on Kaadu, which you can see over athis site

UPDATE: A couple of friends of mine sent in pics of the Ertl STAP/Battle Droid kit, which is pretty cool, so here they are. It’s under this post since it’s also a creative sort of thing, like customs. The first one is from George Collazo as well as his Kaadu: shot 1shot 2shot 3. The second is from Jon: shot 1shot 2shot 3. This is a 1:6 scale kit, and it’s pretty nice! You can pick it up now at Wal-Mart for $5 if you’d like to try it. Skill level 2. The paint and glue isn’t included with the kit.

I was told it was the Obi Wan figure pictured in the most recent Insider with the green lightsaber and the removable cloak. I asked if the figure was exclusive to the Fan Club and I was told “No.” All pre-sales are finished (as of about 3:00 PM Mountain Time Friday afternoon) BUT more will be expected in the coming weeks. I was told the figures that were pre-sold are currently in stock and that they will begin shipping next week. There has been many questions about the R2-D2 with Holographic Leia action figure. It is true that it is only available in SW Fig. Asst. (Wave 28) (Item #84185B, $109.99). Based on Hasbro’s release list for 2000, this action figure will only appear in this case. Of course, Hasbro has a right to update and change this information. Until then, however, Wave 28 remains the only case that this Star Wars classic action figure will ever appear in. Only at Entertainment Earth

Fan Club Kenobi
posted by Tarpals @ 9:00 am (1/22)

One of the more interesting points about yesterday’s Fan Club happenings was the Obi-Wan figure. It certainly seems that they did mean the new Obi-Wan with cloak. Jedi Patrick sent in the name of the figure from his order form:
EP1 OBI-WAN W/HOOD UP FIGURE W/COMMTECH CHIP
So, it seems as if it is the new figure after all. I’m still not certain if they can keep to their quoted 2 weeks before they ship it though.

UPDATE: Paul wrote in to say that he remembers seeing this same name (Obi-Wan with hood up) used recently to describe the Obi-Wan “Jedi Knight” figure. I personally think it’s more likely that this figure is the Jedi Knight Obi-Wan, although since phone reps were describing the cloaked Obi-Wan, we may have to wait a little while before we can say for sure.

TRU Video News

Pilot Corran Horn, who works at TRU, sent in this directive that was sent to TRU District Managers and Store Directors today:

“DMs and Store Directors are requested to personally ensure that their stores: DO NOT START THIS (Star Wars Episode 1) RESERVE PRIOR TO FEBRUARY 1st. Lucas Entertainment will hold our chainwide order for the April 4th release date and we will NOT have goods to sell for the street date. This is Lucas’ policy with all retailers and e-tailers. Please ensure that your store is in compliance with this directive, as I’m sure none of you want to be responsible for Lucas taking this course of action”

Slightly strange since other places allow you to pre-order, but there you go.

A Canadian newspaper, The Calgary Herald, recently interviewed Robert Caryle, best known for roles in The Full Monty and The World is not Enough. Episode 2 casting rumors came up in the interview:

“He also co-starred in Trainspotting with Ewan McGregor, which is interesting because Robert’s name is being tossed around for a role in the next Star Wars prequel. He says he’s delighted by the rumor.
‘No one has said anything to me about that, but I do hear this as well and the more people like you who put it out, the happier I’ll be. I think it would be fun… If Mr. Lucas is reading: I’m your man!'”

UPDATE: Unless I hear any differently, the Fan Club were taking pre-orders for these 3 figures. The Obi-Wan figure seems to be the removable cloak version. They are meant to ship in 2 weeks, but if this is indeed the Obi-Wan they mean, I’m not so sure. No more orders are being taken – all gone.

Classic Cases still missing R2-D2?
posted by Tarpals @ 2:40 pm (1/20)

Over at Wizardworld they have an “Advance Order” section. Brew pointed out the following pre-order items – these have a stated shipping date of April 15th onwards:
“all-new” Amidala, Sio Bibble, Pit Droid 2-pack – $29.95 (picture here isn’t quite correct, since pics aren’t available)
Trade Federation Tank – $34.95

While I was checking out these, I noticed that they listed the next Classic case (after Motti) for pre-order, priced at $119.95. According to them, the case breaks down as follows: 2 x Chewbacca (Dejarik Board), 2 x Princess Leia (hood up), 1 x Admiral Motti, 3 x Darth Vader, 2 x Stormtrooper, 2 x Luke with T-16. That’s yet another case with seemingly no R2-D2. This figure is getting slighly easier to find as more and more people get theirs, but it’s not common yet.
They also list the next Episode One case assortment ($139.95): 3 new Amidalas, 3 Sio Bibble, 4 Pit Droid 2-packs, 2 Holo Sidious, 2 Naboo Royal Guards, 1 R2-D2 and 1 Captain Panaka. Let me stress now that these case assortments are always subject to change. I expect that the new Amidala in these is the Naboo version resulpt. I just don’t get why it should be in a Collection 2 case.

TRU Ticket Date
posted by Tarpals @ 1:30 pm (1/18)

For those of you wondering about the date on the TRU Episode One video reserve ticket, here’s the story courtesy of the manager of the R-Zone at a TRU in Virginia. The tickets are made up freehand using a DOS-based computer program. These tickets that we’ve seen were either done by a misinformed employee, or they’re just a typing error…it happens 🙂 So, TRU DO know the official release date, and they won’t be – nor anyone else – selling it early.
Interesting though – the store manager adds that if you reserve your copy of TPM at TRU, and pay the $5 deposit, you will receive a TRU exclusive special gift when the video is released.

Petitions
posted by Tarpals @ 6:30 am (1/16)

JD Dolan is running a poll to see what popular character you’d like to see as a figure. The choices are Gargan, Amanaman, Plo-Koon, and Queen Amidala (in red outfit). You can vote over at JD’s Cantina. The winner will be put in a petition to be sent to Hasbro. He has not included Aurra Sing because – in case you’re wondering – he rates it quite likely that Hasbro will do this figure either this year or next anyway.

Pete Hoccom is putting together a petition for Great Britain and Ireland residents to be allowed to join the Fan Club again. I have to agree on this one…if we are allowed to buy from the Jawa Trader and we don’t have our own Fan Club, why not? If you want to know more about this, head over tohttp://discserver.snap.com/Indices/58837.html. Britain and Ireland only.

Shopko Sale

This report of this weekend’s show comes from Brian Levine. The show is on in Orlando, and still on today if you want to go. The official show website is at www.fxshow.com, head over there if you need details.

“The Star Wars cast was well represented at the show. Jerome Blake (Rune Haako), Richard LeParmentier (Admiral Motti), Jeremy Bullock (Boba Fett), Garrick Hagan (Biggs Darklighter) and Bill Hootkins (Jek Porkins). Got me a deluxe Boba Fett autographed by Jeremy Bullock, but I must admit that the thought that Richard LeParmentier was there and the Admiral Motti figures are still only couple of weeks away had me kinda depressed.

Got to meet the infamous [Orlando scalper, name withheld], who was charging (and getting) $45 bucks for R2 w/Holo Leia.

‘Course, half of the cast of Star Trek Voyager was there, signing away. Boy does that show suffer from 24th century political correctness. Give me the good ole 23rd century when we were saving the galaxy every episode, instead of worrying about some characters dating life. Sigh…

Really disappointed with the amount and quality of Star Wars items this year. Seemed like there was a lot more last year. I did manage to find out where all the missing Watto’s Box Cinema Scenes were…seemed like everyone had them for $35. I did find a POTF Amanaman, unpunched, but it had a tear where the price tag was, and I couldn’t talk the guy down from his $100 asking price so I passed. Then I found a mint ‘Droids’ Boba Fett, but they wanted $700 for it. All in all, not much in the way of vintage carded figures. As expected, this year’s show belonged to Pokemon, which was everywhere in abundance.

Finally, I’ve now gotten a chance to meet and talk to almost every actor from the original trilogy (except for Harrison Ford and Peter Cushing), and I have to say that overall, the Empire guys are nicer than the Rebel guys.”

Commtech Changes – Trouble!
posted by Tarpals @ 1:00 pm (1/14)

BearcatCC wrote in to say Watto’s Box now ships with both holographic…and non-holographic Commtech chips. Yeah, there’s one tough change to track down. As you may have guessed, the holographic chip is the earlier version.
I myself found some changes on classic figures – Han Solo, Stormtrooper and Darth Vader are available with white chips now. And it also ocurred to me that since Vader and Stormtrooper have been changed…R2-D2 will be changed as well. So I’d say it’s safe to assume that soon if you find an R2-D2 with hologram Leia figure…it will be a third version. A variation collector’s nightmare.
On the subject of R2-D2, here’s some news. So far nobody has reported an R2-D2 with a date stamp higher than 92841. In other words, nobody has reported any R2-D2s that were produced later than mid-October. If you have an R2 with a date stamp higher (ie the 3 middle digits are higher than 284) please write in, so we can try to identify if Hasbro have been shipping these out at all recently.

UPDATE: I’ve had quite a lot of e-mails overnight about this. The latest date stamp we’ve come up with is 93211 – that means 321st day in 1999, which is in November. That seems to be the latest lot that have come out of the factory, since R2-D2s found recently have this stamp. Thanks to all who wrote in.

Wal*Mart news
posted by Tarpals @ 1:00 pm (1/13)

A couple of pieces of information on Wal*Mart for you.
Firstly, the sale found yesterday doesn’t appear to be nationwide…some stores have it, some don’t. And some have figures as low as $3 – Niko picked up a Battle Droid and Destroyer Droid army at Wal*Mart in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Justin Cook reports that a Wal*Mart near him has had figures for $5.68 since May 3rd! When it comes to reductions like this, every store can vary. Thanks to Michael Kiesewetter for some of this info.

Now, some info on R2-D2 with Holographic Princess Leia. Firstly, Brian Levine reports that he saw 9 cases of the Vader/Stormtrooper case that should contain an R2-D2, and each one he checked (they were on a palette) had the R2-D2 figure removed. Seems like, as Brian says, an inside job. And that’s for sure, Brian saw the employees wheel the cases out just before he looked at them. That’s in Orlando, FL.
Also, I’ve heard rumors from various places including our own store reports section that tell of a full case of R2-D2 figures that is around. Possible…as Shawn Brander mentioned to me, it’s possible the Action Ace load of R2s was from a full case – since they didn’t have the Vader/Trooper in stock at the same time. However, my R2 that I got from them is date-stamped from mid-October 1999 – meaning it had been around for a while before Action Ace sold it. Staying on the subject of date stamps…if you have an R2-D2 with holo Leia, check its stamp…the 5 digit number that is impressed onto the card back somewhere. It will begin with 9 and end in 1. If you have one that has the middle 3 digits (9-xxx-1) higher than 330, let me know. And if you find a full case of these figures, please send in the case number…so it can be confirmed.

UPDATE: Interesting news. I’ve been contacted by reps from Action Ace AND Hasbro, and both say that R2-D2 has not shipped in a solid case, and Hasbro say it will not. As for the figures being removed from the Orlando cases, it’s the work of a local scalper who apparently does it all the time… If you’re in Florida, or close, there’s a big show on there this weekend, the FX-2000 show. You can find details about it on their website.

Price Markdowns
posted by Tarpals @ 4:00 pm (1/12)

JD Dolan found figures on sale for $5.68 at Wal*Mart and $5.99 at Fred Meyers. Not sure if these sales are nationwide or just a store clearance.

UPDATE: JD Dolan wrote in again to say that he was at a different Wal*Mart a couple of days ago and their figures were still usual price. And the $5.68 figures did not have clearance tags on them. If you see Wal*Mart selling figures reduced, let me know so I can confirm that this IS nationwide rather than just one store.

Collection 3 Wave 1 text variations
posted by Tarpals @ 4:00 pm (1/12)

If you can’t stand reading about tiny tiny changes to cards that are called “variations” then skip this post.
Just to clarify, this is from Mike. All Collection 3 wave 1 figures (Mace Windu, Gasgano, Boss Nass, Chancellor Valorum, Ki-Adi Mundi) originally shipped with the word “Electronic” (above Commtech Reader on box back) in a thin font. They were changed to the usual bold font. However, for whatever reason, the number on the card (.0x00) only changed too if another card error was corrected at the same time. The only figure that has the bold font and thin font both on the same card number – .0100 – is Mace Windu. Chancellor Valorum is not known to have been changed at all.

Mace Windu changes
posted by Tarpals @ 9:00 am (1/9)

Mike sent in some info on new variations to the Collection 3 Mace Windu card. The .0000 and .0100 figures have the word “Electronic” in a thin font, on the back of the card (in the little box with Commtech Reader info in it). same goes for the .0100 card. Mike found a .0100 card yesterday that has this same text in a bold font, like on all other cards. However, the card is still .0100 for whatever reason. Hasbro has really messed up with these numbers lately – I saw yesterday a .0000 Qui-Gon Jinn lightsaber, but the box had the red stripe on the bottom, typical of Hasbro items released recently. This was definitely not the rare .0000 saber.
Mike also mentioned a Commtech chip variations. The new .0100 with the bold Electronic text was date stamped 92681 (268th day of ’99). The figure came with a Commtech chip that has a white photo background rather than the normal holographic background. However he also found a Mace date stamped 928** – meaning it was stamped later than the first one – and it had the usual holographic chip.
Basically, this is Hasbro annoying us all by firstly releasing old toys in .0000 boxes that have been changed 3 or 4 times (and should really be .0200 or even .0300), and also reissuing figures with new commtech chips, without the holographic background on the photos. Obviously not all figures that are out now will be released with white chips because many don’t ship anymore, but older figures that still ship in newver cases will now come with new chips.

UPDATE: Sope wrote in to say that the bold font variation is also available on the Ki-Adi Mundi and Gasgano figures, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it was on Valorum and Nass too.

The Last on Skiff Guards and Rebel Pilots
posted by Tarpals @ 7:50 pm (1/8)

Okay, more Skiff Guards info. If I ever see one of these sets, I’ll beat it up
From Mr. Mulder: “KB in Richmond mall (Cleveland, Ohio Area) just got a new Hasbro shipment, I picked up a skiff guards and Rebel Pilots for only 19.99! my friend, who works there says that they got more of them and he’ll be putting them on the shelves tonight! They close at 10 PM, but they won’t go no the shelves till after they close so look tomorrow morning when they open at 9:00 AM”

To put a lid on this before we rename this site SKIFFGUARDS.COM (it doesnt exist; just so you know…), these are not gone completely, but it seems that they may be very soon. No cinema scenes are known to be coming out this year, and we’ve had a lot of info to suggest they’re cancelled altogether, although a source close to Hasbro denies this. This sighting here could be KB finally putting them out, or the warehouse being cleared. Unless these are found in excess all over the place, we can’t tell.

Found anything? Send it to the Store Reports!
If you’re really searching hard for these sets, you have to try lesser places for them. Josh remembers seeing 3 shelves full of the Rebel Pilots at New Year in the Tatooine Traders store at MGM Studios in FL. Derek, also in Orlando FL (seems a good place for these), has seen a lot of them at computer game stores in malls, but not in TRU etc. Keep checking this sort of place, you might find what you’re looking for.

UPDATE: Wow, an update to this saga that I found interesting myself! Brian “Laser” Cowdrey has been in contact with the KB in the Richmond Mall, that is posted above. He was informed that the store have never had Jabba’s Guards or Rebel Pilots in at all, only figures from Episode One. And the rep sounded as if they’d been dealing with a lot of similar calls. This certainly is odd…

Hasbro Cinema Scene info
posted by Tarpals @ 1:35 pm (1/8)

OK, this is the story on cinema scenes according to the reliable source mentioned in a recent update. As far as Orlando Hasbro reps know, the 2 cinema scenes all this mess has been about will be coming back, and movie scenes haven’t been cancelled either. It seems that Toy Fair, in about 1 month, will bring the answers. As for these cinema scenes not being available at retail, WalMart nor Target have these on their resets for aisles, but they always “flex” stuff in when the DC ships it to them. These things are, according to this Hasbro rep, shipping to all locations in Florida, if stores don’t have them, they are “in transit”. In Orlando, EB had them for $9.99 before the local scalpers grabbed them all. Same goes for R2-D2 with hologram Leia…Wal Mart in Orlando had these, but scalpers took them all. In my own opinion, if we don’t see any new Cinema scenes at Toy Fair, we may have seen the last of them. There have been none in upcoming product lists, and all these stores not having them seems a little bit strange to me. But thanks go to ChuckMc for sending in the official Hasbro word. If you find Skiff Guards, send it in to Store Reports, making sure you tell us where you found it.

This info is from travis: “I’m not sure if PAX is a national channel or only local, but anyway, last night I saw an advertisement for their next ‘collectibles in your house’ show, and it’s Star Wars. I checked the newspaper and it doesn’t come on again until Monday, so I’m guessing that the commercial meant Monday’s show is Star Wars? I’m close to Louisville Ky, so anyone who wants to watch out for it, the channel is called PAX.”

More on Wuher
posted by hfsolo @ 10:55 pm (1/7)

Here is the final word on the Wuher figure. I spoke with Dan Madsen today and he gave me this exclusive info. Wuher originated as you may recall a petition here on Yakface.com and we were successful with this to get him made. Well the Fan Club was going to get an exclusive window to sell him carded for about 2 months before he was available in the stores. Then he would hit regular retail outlet distribution. Well, that has changed and Wuher will ONLY be available at the Fan Club. He should be available in late February. Thanks to Dan for the news. I believe and this is only speculation, that this happened due to the LACK of sales nationwide on the Star Wars line. This happened with the Leia Hoth Wave if you remember.

Chris Yuhas wrote in with this: “According to a very reliable source, who spoke to a Hasbro Rep. The Skiff Guards and Pilots are still in production, and are shipping for sure to Retail stores in the Orlando area. Plus the rep said that there are plenty of interesting items in store for this year…….?”

UPDATE: Oh dear. Now Brian Levine from Orlando wrote in to say that he hasn’t seen these anywhere locally. Nothing at FAO Schwartz or a nearby Wal*Mart Super Center just now…although the Wal Mark did have 1 case 2 months ago. Nothing at TRU, and there’s been nothing at Target for over a month. I think the best way to handle this is this: if you see the Rebel Pilots or Skiff Guards in a NEW SHIPMENT – not finding one set hidden in the doll section – write in.

Series Alpha Info
posted by Tarpals @ 2:00 pm (1/7)

Robert Carlton sent in some info on the new Galoob Series Alpha toys:
“The prototype ship is the larger of the 2, which to me makes a lot more sense. The Droid Fighter comes with a prototype Battle Droid, and the Sith Infiltrator has a Darth Maul figure in white. The Royal Starship comes with a Ric Olie figure.”

UPDATE: Although it is shown on the back of the box, it seems as if the series Alpha Naboo Fighter is NOT currently shipping.

TC-14 and R2-B1 Commtech Lines Added
posted by Tarpals @ 9:00 am (1/7)

I’ve updated the Episode One Toy Guide with bubble views and commtech chip recordings for TC-14 and R2-B1. Follow this link to get the the Toy Guide. These two figures are listed under the Collection 3 heading.
I also thought I’d point out an absolutely tiny thing on the TC-14 card. After doing my usual variation check on the figures, I noticed that, on the UPC code, the name “TC-14 Protocol Droid” is in bold type, whereas on all other cards, including R2-B1, it’s not. As I say, an extremely minor point, but I thought I’d mention it anyway.

Mos Espa News
posted by Tarpals @ 6:45 am (1/7)

An update on Mos Espa. It seems that yesterday, I posted that they had the Fan Club 4 in stock for $12.99 a pair, but Clint wrote in to say that they only have the Snitkin/AT-AT pair, for $14.99. Clint also pointed out that they’re taking orders for the damn cool Muftak and Kabe two pack, for $12.95. Limit 2 per customer.
Chris Yuhas pointed out that they also have clear Star Wars action figure stands, with the SW logo on them. Pretty cool. They have 2 pegs, one for each foot, and are priced at 12 for $6.

UPDATE: A few people wrote in to say that although they quote $14.99 on their site, the price you are charged is $12.99. Complicated…

Watto’s Box and R2-D2 with holo Leia
posted by Tarpals @ 6:45 am (1/7)

Paul Sehgal wrote in to let us know that Big K toys in New York has the Watto’s Box cinema scene for $29.99 and the whole set of 7 Commtech classic figures, including R2-D2, for $75. If you’re interested in buying either of these, Big K accept phone orders to: (516)-243-4566. If you’re still absolutely desperate for R2-D2, this might not be such a bad buy, since you’re lucky to get the figure for less than $60 on eBay, and it’s doesn’t seem to be going into the Admiral Motti wave, which means it’s not going to get any commoner until one of the current case assortments changes.

UPDATE: Neil called Big K and was quoted $90 plus shipping. That must be the new price since they realized everyone wanted the R2-D2 🙂

Bonus Pit Droid packs added to Toy Guide
posted by Tarpals @ 7:15 pm (1/6)

I’ve added carded images of the new Darth Maul (Sith Lord), Obi-Wan (Jedi Knight) and Anakin (Naboo Pilot) foreign 2 packs to the Toy Guide, which, this year, come with Pit Droids rather than Battle Droids. Each figure is available with all 3 different colored Pit Droids: white, orange, or red. You can see all 9 carded images over at the Toy Guide.

Upcoming Hasbro items
posted by Tarpals @ 5:55 pm (1/6)

I received a new Hasbro product list today, that confirms some items we announced a short while ago, including Padme in the orange outfit, Quarrens, and Kitster. Interestingly enough, these 2 items were llisted together, alongside the Fambaa:
“Darth Maul w/Sith Infiltrator
Obi-Wan Kenobi w/ Gungan Sub”
At the moment, I’m not sure if these are 3 3/4″ scale vehicles with figures, or if this is the Darth Maul with mini Sith Infilatrator we have already seen, and an Obi-Wan with a mini Gungan Sub. If I find out, I’ll post the info.
Other interesting items on the list are 12″ items. Here is a list of 2000 Episode One and POTF2 12″ figures, many of which are new:

Episode One 12″

Battle Droid Commander
Boss Nass
Mace Windu
Ody Mandrell with Pit droid
Sebulba with Otoga 222
Nute Gunray
Qui-gon Jinn (Poncho)
Senator Palpatine
Gungan on Kaadu
Blue Senate Guard with Chancellor Valorum
Darth Maul on Sith Speeder
Aurra Sing
Shmi Skywalker
Electronic Darth Sidious
Electronic TC-14 Protocol Droid
Fode and Beed

Power of the Force 12″

Bounty Hunter 5-pack
Sandtrooper with Dewback
Biker Scout

The first 2 POTF items stand out as big and expensive, but certainly possible if you consider the Taun Taun and the JCPenny ESB 4 pack.

R2-D2 arrives from Action Ace
posted by Tarpals @ 3:05 pm (1/6)

Chris Yuhas wrote in to say that he got his R2-D2 with hologram Leia and R2-B1 today from Action Ace, in mint condition. I myself received a FedEx tracking number from them, which gives very detailed info about exactly where your item is. Looks like ActionAce have done well with the huge number of orders.

UPDATE (7/Jan): I got my order today. Seems like they put a lot of effort into ensuring I get it, because they sent it from CA to Britain in 3 days – that’s expensive. Great condition toys. If you haven’t received your R2 from Action Ace, it’s coming in the next day or so.

Hasbro Discontining Items?
posted by Tarpals @ 2:00 pm (1/6)

Since I posted that notice about Amazon not restocking Skiff Guards, I’ve had a couple more reports. One, from Utinni, says that eToys have dropped the Skiff Guards, AND the Rebel Pilots. Don’t forget that Hasbro have stopped Cinema Scenes, presumably due to low sales, so this is certainly very possible.
Then I got this e-mail from Tia about accessory packs:
“The Accessory sets line for the Star Wars 3 3/4” figures has been DISCONTINUED!

Although I have no way to confirm this directly through Kenner, I have confirmed it several other ways, see below:

CONFIRMATIONS:
1. PER WALMART – Toys Manager here in Lima, Ohio, reports that the 2nd wave was on their ordering lists, but that Walmart ordered NONE, do to poor sales of the first wave. First wave now clearanced at .99 in all Walmart’s around here. Manager states 2nd wave no longer appears on ordering list.

2. PER TOYS R US – First wave clearanced 1.99. 2nd wave has SKU # in computer, but states 0 in warehouse and DISCONTINUED.

3. PER RITE AID – Acc Sets not on ordering list, period, anymore.

4. AMAZON.COM – Received response to inquiry I emailed, stating that there would be no more Accessory Sets, they are DISCONTINUED.

5. BIG-E.COM – Received reponse to email and via telephone stating that they are sold out of the new 2nd wave accessory sets. I then called and inquired about backordering (like I did the Watto Box Seat CS). When the employee tried to do so, the computer would not allow it. After several days of trying to find out, employee told me he had contacted their warehouse and that these items had been discontinued, and that BigE was not able to order any more of them.”
Pretty conclusive evidence. Keep a look out for the second wave of accessory packs…I know that these haven’t been around at all in Glasgow, or anywhere I know of in Britain, so these seem quite hard to find – to me anyway 🙂

Dan Emmons sent in a copy of the e-mail he received about the Skiff Guards from Amazon.com. It’s a bit long to post, but the basic idea is that it will not be in stock in the “forseeable future”.

UPDATE: Mike wrote in to say that he received similar e-mails concerning Adi Gallia and the Jabba the Hutt beast pack. As Mike states, I doubt that Hasbro would discontinue these items, because there is certainly still demand for them. Maybe the Skiff Guards and Rebel Pilots aren’t dead yet?

Skiff Variations

No information on when the “sandy” version will be released is available at this time. Thanks to Mr Anonymous for the info.

12″ TC-14 to come this year
posted by Tarpals @ 3:10 pm (1/5)

Matt picked up the new issue of Lee’s Action Figure News and Toy Review magazine today, and he says that there was a picture of a boxed 12″ TC-14 inside. Another 12″ Chewbacca Variation?
posted by Tarpals @ 3:10 pm (1/5)

John Phillips writes: “I’ve recently noticed a variation to the new 12″ Chewbacca’s ammo strap relating to how it attaches to his side pouch at the pouches top. The ammo straps are attached to the pouch either on the front of the pouch or to the rear of the pouch. In both cases the straps are attached to the top of the pouch – with the straps attached in front you can see the v-shaped bases of the straps, and with the straps attached to the backside of the pouch these bases are obscured and instead you see his ammo clips. As for date stamps I’ve seen the straps in the front with date stamps of 254 and 305, and with the straps in the rear 270 and 305; so my guess is that this accessory might be made on two different lines and/or factories.”

Target Sale – More Info
posted by Tarpals @ 3:10 pm (1/5)

This list of price reductions was sent in by Joshua D:
Gungan Catapult & Flash Cannon – $1.94
Jabba Glob – $2.44
Clash of the Lightsabers Card Game – $2.74
Interactive Banks – $8
R2-D2 Carryall Playset – $6.24
Thanks also go to “e” who mentioned the new price for the R2-D2 carry case, and he also said that when Target mark down an item, their final, lowest price always ends in a 4. This certainly works for all items I can think of that’ve been on sale recently, apart from the Interactive Banks. Will they get even cheaper? Who knows.
Ross Jarvis sent in a bit of extra info. He says an employee once told him “If it ends in 4, its next stop is out the door”! So it seems the little tip posted earlier is true. Also, Ross found the Naboo LAser Tag game for only $13.74 down from $59.99. Good deal – and its next stop is out the door, so hurry 🙂

UPDATE: Timstar29 found Battle Droid Blaster Rifles for $2.44 at his local Target, and also he found Lego items on clearance, but didn’t remember prices.

Factory Sample figures at ToyManiacs
posted by Tarpals @ 9:30 am (1/2)

AzNike877 wrote in to say that Toy Maniacs have listed on their site, 2 factory sample figures. The new Episode One Tusken Raider, and Mas Amedda. Mas is already out of stock (if he was ever in stock) but the Tusken Raider is there now. These are loose figures, and from experience these are usually the same as the final production figures, although there are sometimes color variations in the paintwork. Priced at $19.99, this isn’t bad if you’re desperate for the new Tusken Raider now and you’re opening it anyway. Figure has his rifle, but no Commtech chip. This figure should be released with the new chip design in March. If you go to the site, these are listed in the “Loose Figures” section of their Star Wars category. The site also has the soft goods wave in stock for $11.99 each, including Darth Maul.
UPDATE: Typical. Just when I go to get a Tusken Raider…sold out.

UK News 12″ Sale at TRU
posted by Tarpals @ 11:00 am (1/1)

Kris wrote in to say that TRU stores have a sale on all 6 12″ Episode One figures – down to £9.99 each. That’s Darth Maul, Qui-Gon Jinn, Jar Jar Binks, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Battle Droid and Watto. I picked up a Darth Maul in the US box for this price, but they had both US and Euro boxes for most figures. I saw Euro boxed Battle Droid, Watto and Obi-Wan, which was the first time I’d seen them. Most TRUs have a large stock of them, but if you want a Darth Maul I suggest you try to get there this week.
