Looking For Old Figures?
August 28, 2002 | 7:37 PM EST | Mark

I have been talking with a few of the readers of this page recently and have been asked for a good source for the 95 and up series of POTF2 figures, without hitting EBAY. I know most people out there collecting have all the figures already, however there are new people to this hobby all the time.Entertainment Earth.com is a top distributor of Star Wars merchandise, and while they specialize in selling in bulk, they do have many of the older figures at good prices for a case or $1.88 for an individual figure. Check out this Star Wars Link for a starting page to look for what you need.

I hope this helps the new collectors out, and anyone else looking for a few odds and ends…

The set consists of Luke & Leia from ANH, Chewbacca, and R2-D2.

Troop Builder Sets: The Sequel
August 22, 2002 | 2:26 AM EST | Adam

Rebelscum has images of the upcoming Endor Rebel Troop Builder set. A quartet of seemingly identical POTF2 Endor Rebel Soldiers come in the box, and they don’t seem to be different (or at least too different) from their original release in Freeze Frame packaging in early 1998. Still, it’s news, and good news for diorama builders.

Now all we need are Imperial Scout Troopers. (Maybe some Ewoks and Jawas.)

Electronic Jedi Training Lightsaber Coming to the USA
August 22, 2002 | 2:10 AM EST | Adam

Seen previously at Japanese online toy stores was an electronic interactive Jedi Training Lightsaber. A shiny silver replica of Anakin’s blade (or Luke’s, depending on your point of view,) we’re now seeing this item up for preordering at our sponsor, Entertainment Earth. It’s due in November and seems to be the same toy as Japan has had… so at least one vendor in the USA plans on getting this item in the Fall.

“Howdy! Just thought I’d pass on the word that the new 12″ figures have shown up at my Southern California Target. Zam has her ‘face reveal’ mask and has a huge sticker on the box announcing this (I assume it was not on the box originally since there are stickers on the backs of all 3 boxes replacing the text under the Zam photo.)”

AOTC Preview Figures
August 20, 2002 | 2:53 AM EST | Adam

We’ve been getting some email on how, when, or if the quartet of preview figures (Zam Wesell, Clone Trooper, Jango Fett, R3-T7) will be made available again. While we’ve been lead to believe they’ve stopped shipping, that doesn’t mean you should stop looking. Here in Phoenix, we still see some at stores like Sam Goody and Suncoast Motion Picture Co., although they do run a bit higher– like $8.99. While not really news, per se, with all the demand we’ve heard for white Clone Troopers, we figured it was worth mentioning. (Oh, and it’s a slow news day.)

Official Updates… Maybe Old Stuff
August 20, 2002 | 2:14 AM EST | Adam

First, there’s Hasbro US
Downloads
You may have seen these before, but Bryan of the Tusken Trader pointed us out to the fact that there’s some great wallpapers made up of action figures in battle, some print ads, posters, commercials, and more. There’s nothing you haven’t already seen in this installment, most likely, but it’s neat.

And then there’s the Official Site
Pre-Order Your Episode II DVD
The Official Site has announced that Episode II is out for pre-order if you didn’t know already. They also boast a price comparison chart, and for the DVD, it’s pretty useful.

The Search is On for the Best Toy Collectors
Announced yesterday, here’s a plug for the new Hasbro contest in which the greatest collections can be made greater. A suggestion: worst collection prizes. These people really need the support, folks: the kid who’s got a poster tube painted blue and thinks it’s a lightsaber needs those prizes. But for the winner, one of the ultimate prizes: a Star Wars figure in the likeness of the winner!

AOTC‘s Dwindling Box Office
August 19, 2002 | 2:19 AM EST | Adam

While still performing admirably in Japan, Box Office Mojo shows the first Star Wars flick of the new millennium pulled in a little below $350,000 this weekend… meaning it still hasn’t hit $300 million domestically. (Not that this really maters, as it’ll make gobs of dough on home video.)

New Phantom Menace DVD– Full Screen
August 19, 2002 | 2:10 AM EST | Adam

TheForce.net has posted a report that another Star Wars DVD will debut November 12– the full-screen version of Episode I. For those who prefer it, well, there ya have it– it’s finally coming out.

Disney Sightings, 12″ Luke Tauntaun
August 19, 2002 | 2:00 AM EST | Adam

“Yesterday I was at the Downtown Disney Store Orlando, and For the following:

(Just Arrived) Cantina Sets, $10 a peice, I got Momaw Nadon, and Ponda Baba, Greedo was sold out.

Pop-Ups and You
August 17, 2002 | 2:56 AM EST | Adam

In the past few days, we’ve noticed our ad server has suddenly placed pop-up advertisments on Yakface.com. And from your emails, it would seem so have you, and you share our belief that pop-ups are something you’d prefer to live without.

However, Yakface.com is a free resource for all who visit our cyber-home, and as such it needs to be fairly free for us too… which is why the ads are here. We enjoy providing you with our own brand of Star Wars coverage, and we hope you enjoy reading it. While we would not have elected for our ads to be of the pop-up variety, for now, this is something that will be on the page to pay our costs.

Ordinarilly we would prefer not to discuss matters of this variety on the main page of a Star Wars new site, as it detracts from what we’re trying to do. But hey, one of the reasons we’re here is to help answer your inquiries.

As always, thanks for your continued support and now here’s a news article.

Spain Gets Exclusives… From POTJ and Saga
August 17, 2002 | 2:39 AM EST | Adam

Reader PackoM had some great news to share today…

“I must say that today I’ve found the four Saga Accessory Sets at my local Toys’Rus, here in Seville. They are 11,99 EUR each. I must say I’m very surprised because here there are only a few of the figs and items that are in USA, but Toys’Rus is giving to us great part of the exclusives of the distinct USA shops: we had the POTF2 skiff with Luke, the 25th Aniversary Vader,… and actually they have in stock the exclusives POTJ Tie Interceptor, POTJ Tie Bomber, POTJ Snowspeeder, 12” EXCLUSIVE CLONETROOPERS (red and yellow) and now, the Accesory Packs. They have listed on the computer also “Ki-Adi Mundi”. Could be this the 12″ exclusive from the Fan Club? Will we say here the exclusive 25th Aniversary R2-D2? I’ll let you know it if it finally happens.”

K-Mart Sale: All Star Wars Toys, Buy 1, Get 1 at 50% Off
August 16, 2002 | 1:02 AM EST | Adam

A K-Mart newspaper circular went around this week advertising a sale on all Star Wars toys– buy one at regular price, get a second of equal or lesser value for half off. The sale is good from August 15-17 only, meaning you’ve got until closing on Saturday. Some K-Marts are getting newer product, so if you’ve been putting of picking up some newer figures, or even 12″ figures, this might be a really great opportunity to pick up some of the more expensive items.

Nowhere in the ad does it specify which Star Wars toys are on sale, so it’s assumed Lego, Hasbro, and anything else would be included in the deal. Since only the figures are pictured, and K-Mart sometimes interprets the sales, your mileage may vary.

Kudos to Hope for the tip-off.

Unleashed II, Playskool AOTC Still Shipping to Kay-Bee Toys
August 16, 2002 | 12:57 AM EST | Adam

The second batch of Unleashed has been spotted at the Paradise Valley Mall Kay-Bee Toys in Phoenix, AZ tonight… so those still seeking Padme, Vader, and Anakin should add the malls of America to your toy runs. The figures run about $17.99 there, though.

Also, contrary to rumors we’ve been hearing, the same Kay-Bee just received a few of the “Arena Adventures” Playskool set with a mini Reek and li’l Mace Windu, Anakin, and Geonosion Warrior figures. Not surprisingly, the first trio of Action Fleet ships showed up at this same store… meaning there are plenty of reasons to hit the toy stores this weekend, if there’s something you’ve yet to find.

Star Wars Hidden in McFarlane Toy
August 16, 2002 | 12:34 AM EST | Adam

While looking for new information on the 2002 Masters of the Universe toy line, we stumbled upon this interview with the sculptors of the new line, the Four Horsemen.

In it, they talk about how they used to use chunks of other models and toys to make some of their earlier work at Todd Toys, now known as McFarlane Toys. A closer look at the jet-sled from their Troll figure reveals something many fans probably missed… check out the interview for more.

AOTC DVD Pre-Orders Begin
August 14, 2002 | 6:34 PM EST | Adam

The DVD for the prequel sequel are starting up today. Since DVD Price Searchdidn’t have it in their database, we looked around and this is what we found…

Buy.com: $17.99 for either Widescreen or Full Screen. Free shipping.

Suncoast.com: $19.95 for either DVD, less for the VHS.

CDUniverse: $20.99 for either DVD.

Circuit City: $24.99 for either DVD.

Several online stores have yet to add the film to their databases, so odds are in the next week there will be a dozen or more new entries… and hopefully DVD Price Search will be taking care of those.

Also, the actual DVD most likely won’t be in your hands until November 12, but if you want to get your foot in the door early, there’s a few options.

UPDATE:DVD Price Search has added the disc to their searchable database. As of this posting, Buy.com still has the lowest price.

We noticed this deal as well, as well as others offering a greater gift card with a larger purchase. So if you’ve been putting off picking up the two 12″ exclusive Clone Troopers, this might be just the deal to make today the day to grab them.

K-Mart: Saga Bundles
August 14, 2002 | 2:54 AM EST | Adam

Reader Sean sent us his findings of the recently released figure sets…

“Just letting you know I visited the KMART in Lubbock, TX and found a Star Wars Super Pak. It seems that KMART has packaged two different figures in a plastic case and priced it at $9.99. There were several different variations of which figures came together. I picked up the yoda and Jango(kamino escape) because I haven’t seen a yoda in Lubbock since the very first evening they were on sale. There is a big pink and yellow sticker on the package that says ‘super pak’ and the upc on the yoda had a white sticker over it.”

Jedi Dex Spotted, In Case You (We) Missed It
August 14, 2002 | 2:53 AM EST | Adam

Reader Peter found the Jedi Dex…

“I haven’t heard this reported before. I was seeking the Cantina exclusives at my local Wal-Marts in Phoenix AZ and came across the “Jedi Dex” instead (Wal-Mart, 59th & Bell, Phoenix AZ) – price marked as $30 less a few cents.”

Saga Ki-Adi-Mundi vs. Episode I Ki-Adi
August 14, 2002 | 2:45 AM EST | Adam

While many have speculated that the new Ki-Adi-Mundi is merely a rehash of the version sold three years ago, we’re glad to report this is a half-truth. While the figure sculpt is the same, the figure has been given an all new lightsaber, right arm, and a new set of copyrights. So if you’re looking for a new figure, and boils down to Ki-Adi-Mundi and another recently released figure, Mr. Mundi doesn’t offer much new.

Wal-Mart Cantina Figures Available
August 12, 2002 | 8:58 AM EST | Bill

Darth Evicerous just wrote in to report finding the new Wal-Mart Exclusive Cantina figures in Mesa, Arizona! He writes:

“Hey, just found Greedo, Hammerhead [Momaw Nadon], and Walrusman [Ponda Baba] at Walmart in Mesa, AZ. $9.96 each. 2x Greedo, and 3x each of the other two in the case of 8.”

Update | Adam
Searching the vast reaches of Phoenix, AZ, I have discovered that several Wal-Marts have received one or several cases of these figures. While the sections and drink glasses seem identical in all three packs, the figures and backgrounds are unique and we hope to have a more in-depth look at these in the near future. But first, some impressions:

Greedo: The figure’s sculpt is pretty close to identical to the CommTech version from 1999. The coloring seems to be based on the Holiday Special Rodian from the Cantina more than Greedo. 1999 copyright dates.

Ponda Baba: New right arm, legs… otherwise same as POTF2 1997 release. Coloring slightly changed. New copyrights on the new feet.

Momaw Nadon: Based on POTF2 1996 sculpt, but with a new torso, seemingly crisper details on the skin, and a dynamite paint job. This figure is proof of what a good paint job can do to make a good figure look great. 1996 copyrights.

Tomy Star Wars PVCs from Japan: Now Available
August 12, 2002 | 5:43 AM EST | Adam

A few weeks ago, a few sites on the Web showed Tomy’s new series of “trading figures,” unmarked boxes that include small painted Star Wars items from the original trilogy, including: R2-D2 & C-3PO, Darth Vader flanked by Stormtroopers, the AT-AT, and the Millenniun Falcon.

We’re happy to report you can buy a complete set of the small toy and candy sets over at J-List for $25 plus shipping. The site also stocks the recently released plush Jawa and Ewok, also from Tomy, as well as a pretty neat version of Anakin’s Lightsaber and some light-up necklaces.

While Yakface.com’s staff has not had any dealings with J-List in the past, we figured you may be interested in seeing these PVC figures… if you haven’t seen them already.

Custom AOTC Padme Doll on eBay
August 9, 2002 | 7:28 PM EST | Adam

While we don’t normally like to plug eBay auctions all that much, a link was sent in for a Custom Attack of the Clones Padme that used the Episode I Qui-Gon/Padme set as a basis for the figure’s construction. While not cheap, it’s definitely worth a glance to see what some enterprising individuals have been doing with their toys.

Toys “R” Us Saga Landspeeder Spotted
August 9, 2002 | 2:35 AM EST | Adam

Reader Sergio sent us this note…

“Today I stoped by a local toys r us, and was surprised too see the new landspeeder with luke. There were 6 of them, along with 4 new x-wings. I just thought I’d pass this info along so people can be on the look out for these, since I had not seen reports that this item was out already. The detail on the new landspeeder is remarkable. The old lanspeeder does not compare. The price was $19.99+tax.”

Unfortunately, he did not include where he found it as far as his region goes. Still, it seems it’s time to start looking.

UPDATE: Another reader, Evilchuk, wrote in to let us know he found both the X-Wing and Landspeeder at a Toys “R” Us in San Antonio, TX.

Comic-Con Mega-Guide
August 8, 2002 | 8:51 AM EST | Bill

This just in from Coruscant City.net:

“Some of our staff attended all four days of Comic-Con in San Diego last weekend, and we’ve put together the CCNet Mega-Guide to Comic-Con. It’s taken us a few days to get it all put together, since there was so much to see and we took almost 300 pictures, but the Mega-Guide is nearly done, and we wanted to share the news with fellow Star Wars fans.

The Mega-Guide features reports on and pictures of the massive dealers’ room, including many shots of products at the Hasbro and Gentle Giant booths. There are also pictures of many other collectibles from other genre productions, props, celebrities, and many costumed fans. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet if you’ve never seen 2 fans dressed up as the Death Star and someone frozen in a block of carbonite!

We’ve written up descriptions of everything we saw and experienced, and there are many reports that our fellow Star Wars fans would be eager to read about. The Hasbro and Dark Horse panel discussions, Steve Sansweet’s presentation on AOTC, and perhaps most exciting of all, the filming of scenes for Mark Hamill’s upcoming directorial debut, ‘Comic Book: The Movie!'”

San Diego Report
August 7, 2002 | 3:52 AM EST | Adam

Mike, aka Bananapunk (formerly of Reblscum and CollectStarWars.com fame) sent us this link to a page full of some great pictures he took in Hasbro’s Star Wars booth in San Diego over the weekend. While there’s no previously unseen product here, the images are nice, big, and crisp in addition to showing product from a new perspective. The shots of the Pilot Clone Trooper (some are on the first page, some appear later) are especially good.

Mike is currently working on a new project, Galactic Hunter, which should prove to be another in a great line of Star Wars websites. So anyway, kill some time and peruse his photos already.

Official Updates
August 6, 2002 | 5:46 AM EST | Adam

At Star Wars.com
International Video Release Dates
If you live in Australia, Central America, Asia, or Europe you can find out whenAttack of the Clones will see its official release in your corner of the world. The dates, all tentative, are this November.

One of Yoda’s Younglings was clearly a Noghri. What is his name?
The Jedi Librarian tackles the species we see of the Bear Clan, the group Yoda educates in Attack of the Clones. While it isn’t spelled out as to what the “Noghri” Jedi was, at least you can find out what non-human Jedi did appear in the scene…

And at Hasbro US
Get A First Look at New Products…
Two full pages of currently unreleased Hasbro product images. While some are the same as the official site posted earlier, there are some new angles, so it’s still worth a gander.

Lastly, at Hasbro UK
Arena Play Set
While we’ve seen it before, this short blurb does mention some things you may not have seen in the images. Count Dooku’s box, a “secret hangar,” and break-apart columns are some of the listed features of this large and apparently fairly priced chunk of plastic.

Custom 25th Anniversary Boba Fett: DIY
August 5, 2002 | 9:15 PM EST | Adam

Clarification: We’ve gotten a few emails asking where someone can buy this toy. Answer: it’s a custom. It’s not for sale, it’s home made, and the site has some components that can help you build your very own. (I did not, however, see directions on how to recolor the figure.)

Markus of StarconstruX sent us a heads-up that they posted some nifty scans for a do-it-yourself project for a 25th Anniversary Boba Fett, in the style of the infamous Darth Vader and the upcoming R2-D2. It ain’t perfect, but it’s a great idea for an summer afternoon project!

Clones Box Office Tally
August 5, 2002 | 2:12 AM EST | Adam

As the summer marches on, and with the inevitable home video release of the flick, the clone attack on the American box office has slowed down quite a bit. Coming in at the top three this weekend were Signs (no big surprise),Goldmember (again, no big surprise), and The Master of Disguise (huge surprise.)

At #20 is Attack of the Clones, coming in with an additional $600,000 this weekend bringing its total take to roughly $298 million and change. At this rate, it could easily break $300 million before September. These figures are borrowed from the fantastic Box Office Mojo.

More Star Tours Announced at Rebelscum
August 5, 2002 | 1:55 AM EST | Adam

Rebelscum has a report regarding more future Star Tours releases. A quartet of Droids are listed, one of which– R4-M9– was released during the final days of Power of the Jedi. Could this be a mistake, a repaint, or simply a placeholder name? Time will tell, but check out Rebelscum for the rest of the droids!

Potential AOTC DVD Omission
August 4, 2002 | 9:01 AM EST | Adam

While perusing various DVD sites for interesting press releases and early reviews of Lord of the Rings, I stumbled upon this quote at DVD Review, pointing out something I totally missed earlier:

“A couple of interesting sidenotes are that unlike Episode I, Episode II will apparently be released as the theatrical cut, not as a retooled director’s cut or some such nonsense. Oddly missing from the features are the six short discussions of the film from the recent Fox television premieres of the previous Star Wars films which will be present on the VHS tape.”

Looking at the official list of supplements for the VHS and DVD releases, they’re right: the Star Wars Connections featurette is listed as a VHS supplement, and does not appear on the DVD list. The VHS also includes six deleted scenes, which is better than the total absence of deleted scenes seen with the Phantom Menace tapes.

So now you know.

Toys “R” Us Sales
August 4, 2002 | 8:48 AM EST | Adam

This week, Toys “R” Us stores are having some advertised sales on their Hasbro action figure products. Items included in the sale…

Slave I: was $29.99, now $19.99
Jedi Starfighter: was $24.99, now $19.99
Deluxe Figure Assortment: was $9.99, now $7.99

Given that the prices drop in different amounts in different regions, this may or may not be a good deal. Still, we’d reccomend the vehicles at these prices.

NOTE: David, a TRU Merch Team Leader, sent this in:
“The sale you mentioned is only in some markets, based on when kids go back to school. All other markets will have this sale start NEXT sunday the 11th-17th.”

The circular does list the items as also being available at Amazon via their Toys “R” Us store, and the items are marked down on their web store. So you’ve got options.

Official Site Updates
August 3, 2002 | 3:08 AM EST | Adam

All’s Fair in Love, War and Comics
Wondering what the phrase “The Attack On Kamino” means as far as future tales are concerned? Future storylines on all sorts of upcoming goodies are revealed, including Mace Windu’s involvement in a future installment of Tales. Good times, indeed.

November 2002 Comics and Mini-Busts
Summaries of: Star Wars: Empire #3Star Wars: Republic #48. Also, some images of the wonderful Darth Vader and Yoda mini-busts… both are exquisite looking, and we’d like to get review samples if anybody out there is reading… aw, c’mon…

Hasbro Fall 2002 Preview
Official photography of: 3 3/4″ Destroyer Droid and Tusken Raider with Massiff, Darth Tyranus Unleashed, Hoth and Endor accessory sets; 12″ Imperial Officer; Action Fleet AT-AT. We assume this means there will be another update with more new photography soon. Of note: the Scout Trooper in the Endor Accessory set is properly assembled, and the deco on the AT-AT is nothing short of mind-bogglingly good. Snow, dirt, the whole ball of wax.

Cargo Bay
Some neat things are there if you missed them before. All six Cantina Diorama sets are listed, with the first wave pictured with an incorrect release date of July, 2002. Wave 2 will include Dr. Evazan, Wuher, and Kitik Keed’kak, and those are listed as due in November.

There’s also a few nice shots of the deluxe Clone Trooper and Geonosian, and other than a few neat new Basic figures being shown, there’s also mention of the upcoming Fan Club exclusive Lott Dod and Nute Gunray Hologram set.

Oh, and take the release dates with a grain of salt. While some are right on the money, or are about $0.15 off, there’s a few that miss the mark by a couple of bucks. And now that this metaphor has been overextended, our next news item…

Star Tours Figures: Mall Bound?
August 3, 2002 | 2:47 AM EST | Adam

Reader Brent turned us on to this article at the Providence Journal (a newspaper from Rhode Island) with a particularly interesting quote:

“Although the co-branded toys can only be found at Once Upon a Toy, Hassenfeld and Weiss said they will one day be sold at The Disney Stores locations, such as those at Providence Place, Emerald Square and Warwick malls.”

So could this mean the likes of Disney Mr. Potato Head and R3-D3 are going to show up in your neck of the woods? We’ll keep you posted on these and other developments in the world of the ever-elusive Droid figures.

Target Accessory Sets: Early Impressions
August 2, 2002 | 2:34 AM EST | Adam

Well, we found our samples of the four Target accessory sets in Phoenix tonight, so here’s some early impressions to hold you over until some reviews get written:

Arena Conflict Accessory Set
Mostly recycled parts. The Battle Droid figure is a repainted version of the Power of the Jedi Security Battle Droid. The backpack is new (and resembles the STAP), but all the other accessories have shown up elsewhere, sometimes in different colors.

Death Star Accessory Set
A good mixed bag. The Death Star Trooper is the 1998 POTF2 figure, complete with removable helmet and unchanged copyright dates. The rifle rack, mouse droid, torture droid, and belt are new sculpts. It’s a well-balanced set that Imperial fans will drool over.

Hoth Survival Accessory Set
The most disappointing set. The Hoth Rebel Soldier is the 1997 Hoth Luke with the 1997 Hoth Rebel Soldier head. The backpack won’t fit over his shoulders. The scanner, rifle, and gas masks are recycled, but the rest is all new. The “power box” wins the award for lamest accessory in all four sets.

Endor Victory Accessory Set
Delightful. The Scout Trooper is the Power of the Jedi version assembled incorrectly, with the waist (crotch) piece put in backwards. The drum set’s helmets are not removable, but there is an AT-ST driver helmet included for Han, and everything else, except the Rebel rifle and the Scout pistol seem to be recolored or resculpted from previous versions. This one’s great.

A full pictoral and slightly more extensive commentary may be coming soon-ish.

Action Fleet Continue to Roll Out
August 2, 2002 | 2:23 AM EST | Adam

We’ve received numerous reports on the Target Exclusive Action Fleet sets, but tonight we personally sighted all four sets at $5.99 each. Each set has at least one vehicle with a “dedicated” figure stuck to it, so your Speeder Bikes won’t go unmanned.

Also, the Target had the Falcon, X-wing, and TIE Fighter Advanced. So keep checking your local stores if you missed any of these, as Target has marked several items to “final markdown” and many of the stores have reset or are in the process of resetting their toy aisles… which means loads of new toys are showing up.
