Looking For Newer Toys, Especially Those Found At KB? Check Sears
September 29, 2002 | 8:57 PM EST | Bill

This just in from Yak Reader Danny:

“KB Toys Expands Relationship with Sears Toy Retailer to Supply and Fulfill Wish Book, sears.com Orders

KB Toys and Sears, Roebuck and Co. are expanding a relationship that began last year with a test of 29 “KB Toys at Sears” shops at Sears stores in Los Angeles, Detroit, Mobile and Chicago. Through this expanded relationship, KB Toys becomes the exclusive toy supplier for Sears Wish Book® catalog and sears.com.

Finally, beginning in mid-October 2002, KB Toys and Sears will launch the second phase test of the KB Toys at Sears “store within a store” concept, increasing the number of locations from last year’s 29 to 77 locations for the 2002 holiday season.

“This season, through this expanded relationship with KB Toys, a recognized leader in the toy industry, Sears customers will find one of the most exciting and extensive selection of toys and video games ever offered in Sears Wish Book and on sears.com,” said Dennis Honan, vice president and general manager of Sears Customer Direct.

“It’s our privilege to be working with Sears, one of America’s most trusted retail brands,” said Michael L. Glazer, President and CEO of KB Toys. “These initiatives build upon the success we experienced last year working with Sears within their stores. This expanded relationship is based on our common commitment to offering customers a large assortment of trend right merchandise, exclusive product lines and great service in a variety of retail formats.”

Expanded Toy Selections at Sears Wish Book and sears.com

This year, Sears Wish Book and sears.com will offer customers one of the largest selections of toys for the holidays ever offered by Sears. The expanded merchandise selection offered in the Sears Wish Book includes approximately 900 items. The toy and video game assortment offered through sears.com will reflect even more variety and will include approximately 2,500 items. Now, customers shopping sears.com will enjoy expanded selections in the important holiday categories, including pre-school, learning and video game categories. In addition, a number of new high quality brands will be available at sears.com for the first time including LeapFrog®, Radio Flyer® and Neurosmith®.

KB Toys also will provide fulfillment services for all toy and video game products offered through the 2002 Sears Wish Book and sears.com through its state-of-the-art fulfillment center located in Blairs, VA. Sears will continue to manage all other aspects of the Sears Wish Book and sears.com including customer service, order processing, catalog distribution and site production and design.

KB Toys at Sears Test Expanded

In October 2002, KB Toys and Sears will begin a second phase test of the KB Toys at Sears “store within a store” concept increasing the number of locations from 29 last year to 77 locations during the 2002 holiday season. These ‘stores within a store’ will average approximately 1,000 square feet and will continue to be branded as “KB Toys at Sears.” Each KB Toys at Sears will offer customers a large selection of name-brand toys and KB Toys exclusives. The KB Toys at Sears will operate from mid-October through early January.

In addition to the markets tested in 2001 (Los Angeles, CA; Detroit, MI; Chicago, IL and Mobile, AL), KB Toys at Sears will be opening at select Sears stores within Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Washington.”

Masterpiece Edition Book/Figure Sale Update
September 29, 2002 | 8:52 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader Rajnidds sent in this update on the Masterpiece Edition sales:

“If you haven’t found the Anakin Skywalker Masterpiece Edition Figure/Book at a chain bookstore like Waldenbooks, you may want to try your local independent bookstore.

I found the Anakin set for $24.99 at the Books, Inc. on Califonia St. in San Francisco, and the price sticker was from a different remainders company than the chains use, so it looks like other companies had a shot at buying these out. And I saw a few at the Waldenbooks at Tanforan Mall for $19.99 if you live in
the SF Bay Area.”

And Now The Business News…
September 28, 2002 | 9:04 PM EST | Bill

I know the title doesn’t sound like Star Wars, but, unfortunately, this could affect all of us who drool over the newest toys.

The Trade Federation reported that there is a lockout at West Coast ports associated with the Pacific Maritime Association. It affects the companies which use the Longshore and Warehouse Union. (These are the guys who unload imports — including toys — from ships and get them to companies’ warehouses. The lockout is currently expected to last until the start of the Sunday morning shift.

We’re all hoping the labor dispute is resolved quickly for all concerned.

Ephant Mon Reviewed
September 28, 2002 | 8:57 PM EST | Bill

And now from one of our overseas readers:

“Ephant Mon hits Europe first, I’ve picked him up yesterday!

I don’t know what to say! Impressive, most impressive! I’ve started collecting end of 1997 with POTF2 and I now have over 400 figures, but this… This figure beats everything: Darth Vader Dagobah Spirit, 300th. Boba Fett, FX-7 and even the Bantha! This Fan’s Choice is the best thing since the Cinema Scenes! He’s big, he’s bad, he’s ugly! What more does a collector want? (besides a 3 3/4 Amidala purple dress with Amidala orange handmaiden dress 2-pack maybe) Hopefully this paves the way for Hermi Odle, J’Quille the Whiphid, Tanus Spijek the Elom and a good palace Jabba with bowl and sled. Just look at the size of this thing! Not even the new Chewies are higher. Dexter Jettster, Boss Nass Sacred Place? Babies! Muftak scratch your head one more time. The detail, the weathering: A+ A+ A+!!! Even the articulation is above what you expect from a collector orientated figure like this, so even the play value for kids will be okay. Awesome!

Thanks Hasbro and keep them coming! (the trash-compactor sets look very promising).”

Thanks for the reivew Anton! He got Ephant at Toy Palace Germany for 10.90 euros excl. freight.

Yakkin’ Around e-Bay – Thursday September 26th
September 26, 2002 | 3:36 PM EST | John

After a week of generally uninteresting searches, we’re back with another highlight. This little oddball item comes from Conneticut, but appears to be Italian, due to the “Star Warrio” spelling, although I could be wrong. It’s a Stormtrooper, completely different sculpt from the original carded version – any carded version for that matter – but this one is on a “Shadows Of The Empire”card, and has an AT-ST image on it. Weird! Check this thing out by clicking here.

Disney Updates
September 21, 2002 | 11:20 PM EST | Bill

This just in from Yak Reader Adam:

“I just saw your posting on the Cantina Sets at Downtown Disney. Since I just got back from Walt Disney World yesterday I thought I would give you a little more info. The Star Wars stuff is at at the “Once Upon A Time Store” in Downtown Disney and not the World of Disney store. This is a new separate toy store that is all Hasbro toys (Pretty cool stuff). The prices for the cantina set are like $10.00 (same as Walmart). The X-Wing is $50.00 and the landspeeder is $24.99. They also have the new electronic Jango Fett and Obi-Wan for $50.00. The figures are $10.00 a piece (yikes) but they just had up to the Djas Phur wave. As of Wednesday they still only had the first three Star Tours figures.

Inside the Disney MGM park, the “Tattooine Traders” store had the same stuff plus they had the Republic Gunship for $50.00. I also saw somebody buying the Anakin Skywalker F/X lightsaber by Mater Replicas for $150.00. It looked pretty cool but this guy bought the last one. The also had the Yoda Master Replicas lightsaber in a glass case up by the register for $249.00. The guy working at the store said they also had the Luke Skywalker lightsaber but it sold out pretty quickly. The 12″ Luke.Tauntaun was going for $60.00 and they had the 12″ Ki Adi Mundi on the shelves. They also had the new electronic R2D2 (cool) and the new vinyl figures (Jango, Vader) but I didn’t catch the price of them. Wheew…lots of new stuff!

I asked the guy when they would be getting more stuff and he would not give any dates because they did so in the past and people would come to the parks and get upset because the store didn’t have the new stuff yet. He did say they weren’t suppose to get the R2D2 until October but it came early. He also said they are suppose to get the new Star Tours figures soon.

He did say they get their shipments every Monday, Wednesday Friday.

I hope this helps some people out!”

Now available for download at Amazon:

“Ylesia: Star Wars: The New Jedi Order”
Walter Jon Williams
Our Price: $3.50

The adventures of the New Jedi Order continue in Walter Jon Williams’s “Ylesia.” This original novella includes an exclusive excerpt from the eagerly anticipated “Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Destiny’s Way,” and an interview with the author. “Ripe for the plucking”–that’s Jedi Knight Kyp Durron’s opinion about the planet Ylesia, home base of the so-called Peace Brigade, a group of traitors dedicated to hindering the war efforts of the New Republic and hastening the ultimate victory of the merciless Yuuzhan Vong. Kyp’s plan calls for a lightning-fast strike, backed with overwhelming force, to destroy the Brigade’s offensive capabilities and teach prospective traitors that betrayal carries a heavy price. But young
Jacen Solo, still bearing the scars of his imprisonment by the Yuuzhan Vong, has a better idea: a daring raid into the heart of Ylesia’s capital, with the objective of capturing the Brigade’s top leaders–including the newly sworn-in president, Thrackan Sal-Solo, cousin to Jacen and his twin, Jaina. But unknown to the Jedi and the New Republic forces, Supreme Overlord Shimrra of the Yuuzhan Vong has dispatched reinforcements to the Ylesia system. Instead of a swift surgical strike, Jaina, Jacen, Kyp, and their comrades are about to find themselves locked in a desperate battle for survival, with the odds stacked against them and time running out. No Star Wars fan will want to miss this exciting e-book exclusive adventure from Nebula Award winner Walter Jon Williams. Click here for more.

This just in from Yak Reader Nick:

“I picked up the new interactive R2-D2 at Fred Meyer here in the Seattle area. The good news is all Fred Meyers are having a 25% off all Hasbro action figures or 25% off any action figures depending on the store. And yes, The R2 counted as being eligible at all the Fred Meyers I checked. Good way to cut the cost of this cool but pricey piece!”

Customizers demand answer from “Lucasfilm”
September 15, 2002 | 1:07 PM EST | John

After I have received virtually hundreds of letters from severely disgruntled customizing fans, I pose the question to “Lucasfilm”, who I know reads this page daily;

“Why are customs being yanked from e-Bay at this point in time, and what is considered acceptable?”

I wish someone official would go on record about this, because Lucas has a load of his most loyal fans in a serious uproar over this whole customizing thing, and I’ve been getting swamped with e-mail asking why, as if I know. If anyone official would like to go on record as to “why”, please write to John here at the Yak so I can post it for our fans. This is becoming a very large gripe in the Star Wars community, and it should be addressed by an official source.

Why Sears Has Kaybee Exclusive…
September 15, 2002 | 12:55 PM EST | John

And we here at Yak have the answer. Reader Dan H. writes to tell us the 411. He states;

“I work for KB toys and we have teamed-up with Sears again this year, But this time KB will open more (store within a store) temp Sear’s toy stores. The Atlanta market will have about 7 KB stores inside Sear’s stores. The KB toys logo will be used on the cover of the new 2002 Wish Book, and will be on lots of pages within the book. Most items ordered from the Sear’s Wish Book will be shipped from kbtoys.com. This teamup is because Sears needed help with there toy dept. and KB wanted to get there name out there, and not be known as the
“Toy Store At The Mall” . KB is doing a lot of change’s inside there stores too. New layouts, Most stores will be moving video games to the wall across from the check out, no longer behind the check out and on Sept. 15 the NEW KB TOY CLUB will start in ALL stores. The more you buy the more you save, after you buy $75 you will get a 20% discount off your next purchase and you can have the discount on video games too.”

Thanks Dan! Now, we’ll have to see if Sears receives those darned elusive transparent Transformers Spy Changers I’ve been seeking…

Silver Vader Reissue Petition In Need Of Signatures…
September 15, 2002 | 12:45 PM EST | John

My good friend JediDaxter writes to us today with a plea; “Mars Needs Women…”. Whoops! Wrong flick! I mean, “Help me Obi-John Kenobi, you’re my only hope!” All kidding aside, JD has been trying to assemble a petition in hopes of getting the ever elusive Silver Anniversary Vader reissued for fans around the world to be able to purchase. From the get-go, I knew this limited availability would cause headaches. He writes;

I am still looking for signatures of those who would love to sign this petition for a second, larger run of the Silver Anniversary Darth Vader that was exclusive to Toy Fare 2002. Send you full name to:SILVERDARTHVADER@wmconnect.com with the subject “silverdarthvader”. At the moment there are 100 even signatures, so I am encouraging everyone to sign. This can become a reality, so will you sign? Please do so. JediDaxter signing out…

So, if you are in support of this petition, click the link above and sign up.

Yakkin’ Around e-Bay – Sunday September 15th
September 15, 2002 | 12:08 PM EST | John

With the current hair that lies firmly across Lucasfilms’ backside involving all things “unauthorized”, I thought I’d highlight some bootleg keychains at e-Bay today! These keychains from Argentina are completely unauthorized, but are strange incarnations of the characters they represent. We have a Vader, the Emperor, and, of all creatures, Jabba! Click here to check them out!

This just in from Yak Reader Andy:

“I just thought I’d let you guys know I ordered the Shuttle today 9/13. The operator told me that only 2500 were allotted for the online number and that they were up to about 1600. Update:

Yak Reader Austin just let us know that:

“Just called FAO Schwarz to order an exclusive Shuttle. They said all the catalog orders and online orders that will be taken, have been taken. No more available through the phone or online. A Tremor In The Customizing Force – Part 2
September 10, 2002 | 11:53 AM EST | John

After the many e-mails we received on the below article, I thought I might clarify my standpoint on the custom auctions being removed by Lucasfilm on e-Bay. When I wrote this article the fact that Spanky had done a nude custom was not first and foremost in my mind. The fact that he did nice work was. I was impressed by his Vintage K-3PO mainly, the nice Mara Jade, etc. The topless Padme did not stick out in my mind as a “problem” because it was only one of a bunch of figures I had seen. As Spanky informed me in the entire e-mail of which I had posted a portion of last night, the topless Padme was not the first to get pulled, it was the Mara Jade. Then, days later, e-Bay removed all the rest at one shot. So, make of this what you will. Aside from the rest of the controversy with the topless figure, all I was trying to originally do was say that I thought the guy did nice work, figure and card. I was certainly not supporting naked action figures. I’m also not saying I’m against it, I’m just disinterested. To each his own. I would not bid on or be interested in these in any way, shape, or form, but if someone else is, that’s there business. But, I also think there are better and different ways to sell them, unedited or not, off of e-Bay. I just hope customizers are still able to continue to sell their custom wares, in small scale amounts, without being yanked randomly without warning from e-Bay. Enough said about this. On to more news…

Yakkin’ Around e-Bay – Tuesday September 10th
September 10, 2002 | 2:37 AM EST | John

Well, Spanky’s customs may have been stifled, (see the article below), but the customizing community on e-Bay, sans Spanky, still seems to be thriving. Today I am highlighting three kick-butt figures from the Expanded Universe. E-Bay user “ptmbox”has created some really nice ones. They are Custom Luke from SOTELando in a Stormtrooper Disguise, and finally, one of my personal favorites, Corran Horn. This guy does some nice work! Check his stuff out byclicking here!

A Tremor In The Customizing Force…
September 10, 2002 | 1:12 AM EST | John

Some disturbing news has reached the ears of this customizing fan, and it smells a little rotten. The other day, in my daily e-Bay article, I highlighted some of the figure-customizer Spanky’s customs he had up for sale on e-Bay. Today he writes me to let me know that Lucasfilm had them yanked from e-Bay. He writes;

“My auctions were taken down by George Lucas’ request due to the e-Bay VERO program, and it just doesn’t seem fair. I use the money from my customizing to fund my hobby, and without this little bit of extra income that’s going into George’s pocket either way you look at it, I will stop collecting. I am purchasing these figures, giving George my $5, and doing with them what I want, and what other fans would like to see, and in the same token pay for my collecting. Is this how money-hungry Lucas has become? I think it’s pathetic to be worried this much about a fan who has already spent his money on Lucas’ product not be able to do with it what he wants. Sure it’s the copyright of Lucasfilm, but they started out as Star Wars figures anyway, right? I am so sick from this right now I am truly ready to stop collecting. If anyone wishes to contact Lucas to tell him what you think about this non-customizing movement, you can contact him at antipiracy@lucasfilm.com. Thanks for your support! This is NOT piracy, it’s expanding on an already enjoyable hobby with people paying for someone’s talent at sculpting and photo-manipulation, NOT stealing from Lucas’ pocket.

Thank you Spanky for your concerned letter. This is distressing to say the least. It’s horrible to think, (and a little unbelievable), that Lucas, after letting fans do a plethora of other things, would stifle customizing sales on a tiny scale to fund their collecting habits. More on this as it unfolds…

Republic Gunship Review
September 9, 2002 | 3:11 PM EST | Ben

The Republic Gunship is one of the best ships Hasbro or Kenner has produced. Its features include both a lot of play value, and a lot of display options. At the price of $39.99 it looks like Hasbro has recognized that a lot of its market will no pay over $40-50 for a ship. Hasbro has also wisely chosen not to put electronics on the ship, keeping the price point lower. Another kudo to Hasbro is the decision to paint on most of the detail, there are 20 odd decals, which are small— similar to the hull decals for the Falcon.

The ship itself is big. Its wingspan is approximately 2 feet wide, and it is also approximately 2 feet from the tip of the tail gun to the tips of the 2 bow missiles. The features include: 4 “firing missiles” (2 large missiles which shoot out from the large cannons on top of the ship where the wings meet the body of the ship, and 2 nose missiles), dual cables and grappling hooks at the back of the ship, opening side panels, and a dropping troop platform. Clusters of 4 bombs store under each of the wings, and 2 removable, but “non-firing” missiles, attach to the interior of each of the side panels.

The good:

The side panels glide open smoothly at the push of a button which is by the integrated carrying/playing handle between the 2 main guns. The action of the side panels opening is very similar to the gravity powered wing release on the vintage Imperial Shuttle. The carrying handle is well integrated and is unobtrusive in the overall design. The drop platform accommodates a large enough number of figures to recreate the arena battle scenes from the movie, or just to have a lot of fun playing with this ship. While we didn’t have them in hand to evaluate with the Gunship, the added value of additional turrets shipping with the Clone Trooper Pilots are another plus.

The bad:

I had a hard time finding anything that did not meet or exceed my expectations with this ship. Probably its only shortcoming is the grappling cables wrapping around plastic pegs rather than retracting into the ship. Wrapping the cables around the pegs leaves the “extra” cable visible on the ship and is not complimentary to the overall affect. In addition, the coils of cable make it difficult to secure the grapping hooks to their storage pegs.

Overall this is a ship that you must have (and probably you will decide that you must have several). The quality is excellent and the details are very movie accurate.

Yakkin’ Around e-Bay – Monday September 9th
September 9, 2002 | 1:41 PM EST | John

This item is now closed for sale, but still deserves mention on its’ sheer imensity. “Look at the size of that thing!” This is a built to scale Landspeeder that is actually a fully-functioning vehicle. Built on the chassis and frame of a 1988 Ford Escort, you’d never be able to tell it now. It looks exactly like Luke’s Landspeeder from A New Hope. Just amazing. Like I said, the auction is over, and it did go for $13,100, but you can still see the virtual eye-candy by followingthis link.

Electronic 12″ Figures At Retail
September 8, 2002 | 9:33 PM EST | Bill

This just in from Yak Reader Michael:

“The new 12″ electronic sounds Jango and Obi-Wan were out at the Ypsi Meijers today. Two of each, and $35. Wow. That’s a pretty steep price, especially considering that the head sculpt on Jango wasn’t as good as the 12″ version. The sounds were kind of cool, but not $35 cool.”

Jorg Sacul Protype?
September 8, 2002 | 12:28 PM EST | John

There is an alleged prototype of the infamous Sacul figure over at e-bay. As of 12:30 EDST it’s at $103. As always, before bidding, make sure you find out this gentleman’s credentials as to where and how he aquired this item. I’m not saying it’s not real, I’m saying to check into it. But, to see this critter, click here.

Yakkin’ Around e-Bay – Sunday September 8th
September 8, 2002 | 12:23 PM EST | John

Today I was looking for some old Star Wars oddities, and came up with this jem! Click here to see 80’s cheese in all its’ glory! This auction involves 2 LP’s that are said to be contain music that is a ‘stunning surreal interpretation’ of the Star Wars Soundtrack. Just look at those covers though! The first one listed at the top of the page also has other “hits” on it such as the theme’s to Star Trek and the Bionic Woman, but the bottom one, the “Patrick Gleesons Star Wars”beats all. The cover is a weak interpertation of Vader… or maybe it’s a Stormtrooper… eh well, whatever it is, it’s weird. Like I said, check it out! These are relatively cheap, and if you’re into acid trips, pop one of these on your record player, (if you even still own one yet), and promised, you’ll never touch the stuff again.

Christmas 3PO and R2
September 7, 2002 | 9:06 PM EST | Mark

Jay over at American Dream Comics has posted mock-up carded images of the rumoured Christmas C-3PO and R2-D2. The design gives new meaning to the phrase “bubble pack”, looking like a snow globe. Customizers will start drooling over the fact that the background can be removed without opening the packaging.

Petition For Toy Fair Vader Rerelease
September 6, 2002 | 5:44 PM EST | Bill

This just in from JediDaxter:

“I am now collecting name to be in a a list that will go to Hasbro on making a second, larger run of the Silver Anniversary Darth Vader. He’s only made in the quantity of 5000 and a lot of people can’t get ahold of him. I even want one, and can’t get him (too expensive online). I urge all who don’t have a figure of him, and those who do, to send in your name. Send an e-mail with your name (first and last) to: SilverDarthVader@wmconnect.com with ‘SilverDarthVader’ in the subject line and your name in the body. And, while your at it, please visit my petition site, PetitionOrg. I have given it a new background and have added a few new petitions I found online. And, please vote in my poll!”

Yakkin’ Around e-Bay – New Daily Article @ Yak
September 6, 2002 | 4:57 PM EST | John

With all the weird Star Wars stuff that’s making its’ way around e-Bay, the team here at Yak thought we should do a daily, (hopefully), article involving some of the more oddball stuff highlighted on our favorite, beloved online auction house.

Today, for my first article, I’m highlighting one of my favorite customizers, username “Spanky” on e-Bay. This is the person who did the ‘altered’ Leia we had written about the other day. He’s always got oddball figures up for sale, all created and carded by himself or his wife, (yes folks, this is what amazes me, afemale Star Wars customizer!). Today you can find some of their auctionsincluding an Episode III Dark Anakin, a vintage K-3PO, an incredible Mara Jade – Emperor’s HandKyle Katarn from Jedi Outcast, and another ‘altered’ Padme. Incredible stuff. I think I may go over myself and add another one of their mechanations to my humble collection. To see all the custom auctions by Spanky, click here. This guy doesn’t sock you either. For the work that goes into them he seems to have decent prices. Also, if you contact him, (I have for a custom Jodo Kast – AWESOME job!), he does do requests!

September 5, 2002 | 11:31 PM EST | Mark

Well what is he worth to you? How much pocket change do you want to spend on toys at TRU to get this little guy? $5, $10, $40, $50??? We have heard all sorts of numbers being tossed about. Well the answer is… $20! I do not believe this to be a bad price. Walmart Cantina Packs Abounding!
September 5, 2002 | 3:59 PM EST | John

Faithful Yak-reader ‘Jhett’ is one of the many who have written to us to let us know that the Walmart exclusive Cantina packs are making it to retail in his area, and in fact all around the USA. He writes;

“I don’t know if you guys want to share this with your readers or not, but I picked up two of the Cantina packs at Wal Mart today. I got Ponda and Momaw. They had a couple of each, but no Greedo. This was at the San Jose, CA Wal Mart store.”

Thanks to everyone who has written in, and keep your Force-senses honed, they will be all over in a little while. Also, the Greedo pack will be in the next assortment in more abundance, so for right now, for the most part unless you hit the store right when the cases are unpacked, all you’re going to find is the Walrusman/Hammerhead… sorry… Ponda Baba and Mowmaw Nadon sets. (Old school seeping through there!) But don’t pay scalper prices for Greedo, patience pays!

Star Wars Action Figure Nudism @ e-Bay?!?
September 4, 2002 | 3:08 PM EST | John

Over on e-Bay I’ve noticed an alarming trend with custom figures recently. A load of auctions such as this one have been making their way onto the market. Custom “topless” Leia’s (and wearing even less!), are up for auction now and again. GREAT work, (I wrote to the guy and asked for the “unedited” images, and he really knows his stuff, he’s done others that are absolutely fantastic!), but does it really have a place in our beloved hobby? To each his own… If you’re into that sort of thing, check it out.

Star Tours Arriving… BUT……
September 4, 2002 | 10:54 AM EST | Mark

Tom P. sent us this news….
I just wanted to send out a warning to anyone ordering the Disney
Exclusive Star Tours figures from Disney Delivears. I preordered two of each of the first three figures several weeks ago, and they arrived in the mail yesterday in fairly sad condition. The dimensions of the box in which the figures were packed was a half-inch shorter than the figure cards, in all directions. Length, width, and height were all too short, and no packing material ws placed in the box. So, except for diagonal placement, there was no way a POTJ figure could be packed into the box without being bent in some way, and yet the doofus that filled my order managed to cram six figures in there! Luckily I intended to open one of each of the figures, because three of the six figures were folded almost in two, with the fourth figure being bent but reclaimable. The final two figures came out only slightly bent.
Ironically, the box contained a sheet that stated that Disney hoped the order arrived “in excellent condition” and gave instructions on how to return it for a full replacement/refund. So if you’ve ordered from Disney Delivears, be prepared to either receive a bunch of “openers” or to send your shipment back in the hopes of getting mint-condition replacements. I’ll live with what I received, but for $70.00+ for six figures, I would have liked them to arrive in better shape.

Interactive R2-D2 In Stock At Target
September 4, 2002 | 8:57 AM EST | Bill

Yak Reader DalGoda wrote in:

“Target.com has the Robotic R2-D2 listed as “in stock” yet Amazon.com has it is “unavailable” and their pre-order for it is gone. If you choose the Target route (as I did), use this coupon code TDWELCME2222 to get an addition $10 off, thus negating the shipping charges. They do however charge taxes. A pretty good deal for a cool item.”

Farewell…
September 4, 2002 | 12:32 AM EST | Adam

On April 1, 2001, I took over operations at YakFace.com. And today, on September 4, 2002, I announce my retirement from the site. While I’ve had a fantastic run here with With Every Question for Justice, a smattering ofYakFeatures, and even some news once in a while. It’s been fun, but unfortunately, a lot of things have come up, and I’m currently unable to work on YakFace.com in a capacity that would be fair to the loyal readers of the site. I’m handing the keys back over to Mark, and while I’m not yet aware of what plans he has for the site, I’m sure the future here is going to be bright.

As for me, well, I’m moving to a new home, and in more ways than one. Starting today, you can find me at a new site, GalacticHunter.com. I’ll be bringing new reviews and Q&A with me, and the staff includes faces that should be familliar to fans of the online Star Wars collecting scene.

Thanks for your support over the years, for Yak Face’s Realm, myself, and anybody else who’s ever posted a Star Wars toy news article to the Web. But enough from me… back to the news!

TRU 25th Anniversary Silver R2 Update
September 3, 2002 | 8:37 PM EST | Bill

This just in from a loyal source at TRU. The vacu-chromed R2s are coming (no date yet, but they are in some of the distribution centers). It looks like there will be two different versions. The good news for openers is that the figures themselves will be the same, but the bad news for completist carded collectors is that there will two different cards. One will likely be free to customers without a minimum purchase. The second will be much more limited and will be a gift WITH a minimum purchas. As of now, we have no info on how much the purchase requirment will be.
