Falcon Favorite!
March 31, 2004 | 5:21 PM EST | Keri

This week’s Falcon Favorite is simple and special, bringing a smile and warm feelings to your heart. YakReader Mark D. shares this photo and memories with us:

“These items are as modest as can be, but they hold a lot of happy
memories. These are proofs-of-purchase from the vintage figure
cardbacks, cut out by me and/or my brother when we were very young. I remember us frequently mailing these to Kenner’s mail-in promotions (for Ackbar, Emperor, Anakin, etc.) so I was very surprised a few years ago when my mother told me she found these POPs sitting around forgotten in a cabinet. A nice little reminder of simpler times and safety scissors.”

Just a nice reminder that the best items in a collection do not have to be the rarest, nor the most expensive to be Falcon Favorites.

Bounty Hunting Today: Target Glass Error
March 30, 2004 | 4:41 PM EST | Keri

Errors in packaging or slip-ups in quality control have been with Kenner since the original line of figures introduced in 1978. Either the wrong figure is put with another characters card, a weapon is missing or even the wrong weapon is included. While these are overlooked mistakes, with the consumer recieving an incomplete item, some collectors crave these sometimes goofy errors.

Today’s featured auction is for a Target exclusive Darth Maul figure packaged with an Obi-Wan Kenobi glass. As the seller describes and shows well with photos, the package was not tampered with to create an error, it was done at the factory.

As with all packaging errors, prices can be all over the place. Some items are more popular than others and some errors fetch less than the retail value. I myself am not an error collector, though I do have an 00M-9 which I bought off the shelves with the head unattached. I felt it was a nice touch being “all brokey” in the bubble. As to the worth of an error item, I have found that like so many other things it is worth whatever price someone is willing to pay. The main point is do not buy an error with the sole idea that it is worth a fortune and that you will be able to sell it in 10 years and send your kids to college. Prices and markets for collectible items are always in constant flux, with the bottom line being buy what you like for a price you are comfortable in paying.

Click on the link below to see an unusual error item to add to your collection today!

Star Wars Shop Packs
March 30, 2004 | 3:51 PM EST | Mark B

For those of you, like me, who had their orders cancelled on the opening day of the StarWarsShop.com, be watching your mailbox for the promised pack that was an apology for having to have all of our orders cancelled. Mine showed up today. Inside was a gift certificate for $50, 3 Topps Clone Wars Cards, and 2 Revenge of the Jedi Patches. While I appreciate the Star Wars Shop giving these out for our inconvenience, I’m not sure if I’m more annoyed with having my order cancelled, or having to pay the $3.70 POSTAGE DUE on this package!!!!

Bounty Hunting Today: Sleeping Bags
March 29, 2004 | 9:48 PM EST | Keri

If you were watching Clone Wars Chapters 1 – 10 on Friday night, and in between the chapters closely perusing the collection of Steven Sansweet, you probably remember seeing his large rack of vintage sleeping bags looking oh so very cool.

Today’s featured auction is of course for a vintage sleeping bag. The pattern is from Empire Strikes Back (my personal favorite) and has great designs of Luke, Leia, Han and the Droids all set in a Hoth motif. Although this particular sleeping bag is not sealed in its original package like the ones found in Mr. Sansweet’s collection, it is nonetheless a nice addition at a very affordable price. Sleeping bags, as with just about all bedding items and curtains are extremely difficult to find sealed in original packaging, and when found, the prices can be on the high end of the spectrum.

If you are looking for a nice sleeping bag to decorate your collection room with, then click on through to the auction below!

KBToys in the Chicago Western Suburbs received a large shipment of
the Attack of the Clones Jedi Council and Geonosis War Room 3-packs. The case had all 4 in them and for the low price of $7.99. I wish my Jedi powers could have foreseen the future as I remember shelling out $19.99 a pop and I bought 2 of each long ago.

E3 Title???
March 24, 2004 | 9:45 PM EST | Bill

Yep you read the subject line correctly! It seems that there is another rumor out there — no this one is not “Rise of the Empire” that we’ve seen on the web for a while now. The latest report comes from Ain’t It Cool News (which managed to see some E2 footage very early….). Ok you know we stay spoiler free, so we’ll link you to the title here.

Red Leader X-Wing Has New Date
March 24, 2004 | 6:22 PM EST | Mark

Though Amazon has sent out information on the Red Leader X-Wing stating that they will not be getting them… low and behold, it has shown up on the site again, with a different release date.
As I said before, what typically happens, is that they sit in the system and after X many days, the system will send out that generic email stating that they will not be getting them. Then they relist the item.
Also, the Jabba’s Palace 4-Pack Figures has also resurfaced as a pre-order.
Both are available right now for a pre-order and both have FREE shipping.

Falcon Favorite!
March 24, 2004 | 5:14 PM EST | Keri

This newest addition to the Falcon Favorite feature is not only interesting but also a tough find. Jeremy shared his story of how he obtained these items. Yakface.com has taken the liberty to edit it as we do not want to offend any readers, however, the image of the items is definately worth seeing.

“I have so many Star Wars items that it’s hard to pick out my one
favorite. Toys make up a huge part of my collection but due to my working in advertising, I think my favorite pieces are store promotional items, such as the cardboard DVD displays, Pepsi character standees, vinyl banners hanging on fast food restaurants, Lego shelf-talkers, etc. I love the fact that most of these are unusual in its content and are discarded after it serves its purpose, so to get a hold of these particular items is almost a great accomplishment in itself.

With the hype of the new episodes of Clone Wars, I thought I’d share with you my latest additions to my collection. We know that there’s almost no CW collectibles other than the action figures, but I’ve managed to acquire an amazing advertising campaign for the first 10 episodes. With a few well-placed phone calls and other means, an unused self-adhesive vinyl taxi topper (my extra one of these was a Bounty Hunter feature a few months back), an unused self-adhesive vinyl bus panel (which comes in two parts and still has registration marks on it), and my favorite of the bunch: a backlit-ready mall kiosk.

I’ve included photos of myself with my prizes so that you can see how
big they really are…in fact, the only way I could photograph them
together was to hang them on a freight elevator at work. Now I just need to find some really big frames and a tremendous house to hang them in!”

Space is always an issue when collecting Star Wars displays, as so many of them are large and impressive in size. Thanks Jeremy for the great story and even nicer picture of your Clone Wars display colleciton! If you would like to see your favorite item from your collection featured here next, all you have to do is email me here.

Bounty Hunting Today: ILM Invitation
March 23, 2004 | 5:54 PM EST | Keri

Not available to the general public at large, internal items from Lucas’ own special effects company Industrial Light & Magic can be most interesting as well as unusual.

Today’s featured auction is for an ILM 2003 Halloween Party Invitation with Vader and Yoda on the front with Trick or Treat pumpkins in hand. The back is printed in a Planet of the Apes font and encourages those invited to dress in costumes.

This is a really neat item and one that I would think would not be very easy to come across, especially at such an inexpensive price. This is why I always encourage searching Ebay high and low for great bargains that come up on a regular basis. Click on through below to add to your ILM items today!

On Thursday, March 25 they will be launching (for Collectors Society Members – and then for everyone on Friday), their brand new limited edition letterman style Star Wars Jacket that incorporates some REALLY COOL features. You’re wearing a conventional black letterman’s jacket and then imagine pushing a button and having 2100 fiber optics points recreate a 25 second animated dogfight scene from “A New Hope” across your back. Its pretty pricy at $349, but they will only be making 750 of these babies. They’ll start taking orders at Master Replicas on Thursday morning – so make sure you get your order in early!

Star Destroyer and Yavin Wave News
March 22, 2004 | 9:12 PM EST | Bill

This just in from Yak Reader Bruce:

I’ve noted people panicing over not being able to find these…just wanted to pass along that I found HUGE quantities of this wave at TWO Target stores in Bel Air and Abingdon in Maryland this morning.

And Yak Reader Baghutch reports that:

Wal-marts in northern IL had the Star Destroyer Wave today.  No scan, but there were a metric ton where I shop.

Bounty Hunting Today: Vintage Pajamas
March 22, 2004 | 4:55 PM EST | Keri

Today’s featured auction is not only something very cool, but something that is quite hard to find and acquire: a set of unopened vintage pajamas!

Produced by Wilker Bros. for the Original Trilogy, sets of pajamas had many different themes, with nice bold artwork that had such a great 70s flair. Not only were the designs pleasing to children, but the pajamas were safety concious as well, being flame retardant.

Today’s auction is for a set of Darth Vader pajamas mint in the sealed bag. Pajamas are very hard to come by as they were often worn out, possibly used for rags or just plain thrown away after the child was too big to wear them. Pajamas often sell for a premium price in mint sealed conditions and are far and few between. Start your pajama collection today with these primo Vader sleeping duds by clicking on the link below!

New Ultra Jango Fett Found!
March 22, 2004 | 3:29 PM EST | Keri

YakReader Lester reports in with his latest find:

“I reside in North Charleston, SC and just wanted to pass on that I was able to pick-up the Ultra Series Jango Fett Kamino Confrontation figure this morning at my local Wal-mart.
Didn’t find the Obi-Wan Kenobi one. Apparently someone beat me to the peg aisle. But at least I was able to pick up something that’s new.”

I have yet to see the Ultra Jabba at any of my local stores, but I may have simply missed out. Looks like its time for another figure run everybody, Good Luck Hunting!

$6000 12-inch Figure
March 21, 2004 | 8:51 PM EST | Jason

I kid you not, I just wanted to give you an example of people who
live in Fantasy Land when it comes to figuring out the value of figures in todays market. A person has listed a 12-inch variation of a Han Solo, packaged in a Lando Calrissian box… Buy it now at the cheap price of $6,000… Here is the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2233628306&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1

I don’t know if this is a joke or not, but if it is a legitamate auction, I’m speechless. People… Most of the figure errors out
there are worth jack-squat. I think this all started with the original Boba Fett craze that a dot missing from a hand increased the value of the figure 100 fold.

I think it is about time that seasoned collectors set the record straight… if you have an error figure, it is actually worth LESS money. You got screwed over by Hasbro as the figure is incomplete because it is missing paint, missing weapons, or carded on an incorrect card… Period.

UPDATE:
Apparently, this person must be an avid reader of yakface.com, or he received many e-mails from our readers… since his counter jumped from 10 to 160… I’m betting on our smart readers. He has removed the buy it now of the ludicrous price of $6,000 and is now just a $9.99 auction with no bids. Shipping is now the cheap price of $16 for domestic shipping… Huh?

Animated Clone Wars Wave 3 and 4?
March 20, 2004 | 8:50 PM EST | Bill

One of our Yakface Alumni just dropped the word that he’s heard we may see two more waves in Target’s line of exclusive animated Clone Wars figures. At this point there is no word on which figures are under consideration, or even when these might hit, and of course remember, rumors are just that until confirmed by Hasbro. It sure sounds interesting though.

Another Gentle Giant Sellout
March 20, 2004 | 8:48 PM EST | Mark

At the Wizard World Los Angeles there was an exclusive Clone Pilot Bust that had sold out by 10:30am this morning. This was limited to 2500 pieces and sold for $50.00, so if you are a collector of these, it looks like the only way to get one now is on the secondary market.

March 19, 2004 | 8:38 AM EST | Bill

Yep you read it right, despite the repeated statements we’ve all seen from Lucasfilm that the DVD will contain the Special Editiion version of the Original Trilogy films, it looks like the DVD may become by collectors as the Extra Special Edition after all. The Digital Bits is reporting that they have confirmed from 3 reliable sources that new footage is being added to the movies on the Original Trilogy DVD release, as well as deleted scenes silimar to the E1 and E2 DVD releases. Check out their full report here.

Bounty Hunting Today: Pepsi Bottle Caps from Japan
March 18, 2004 | 6:38 PM EST | Keri

From the Land of the Rising Sun, also known as Japan, collectors have been treated to many wonderful and unusual Star Wars items of which there is really no counterpart found in the US, which leads me to today’s auction for Episode II Pepsi Bottle Caps.

The Japanese bottle caps were first produced for Episode I with a large set for collectors to attempt to complete, including full figured characters, heads, as well as special mail-away prizes where the character had moveable arms. The set included many cool characters and even Original Trilogy favorites. The follow-up of Episode II Bottle Caps does not disappoint at all in its offerings of characters from the most recent film released.

Today’s featured auction is for a near complete set of Episode II Bottle Caps with some extras to get your Japanese Bottle Cap collection underway today!

Upcoming Master Replicas Rebel Blaster
March 18, 2004 | 6:04 PM EST | Mark B

Well, this new item from Master Replicas won’t be available to order for just over another month, but we wanted to bring you a photo (found by Bothan Spies!), of the new Master Replicas Rebel Blaster – used to hold off Stormtroopers at the beginning of Star Wars: A New Hope. It is going to be a limited edition of 2500 pieces and will retail for $449. This was an interesting find because Master Replicas announced they would be offering a Stormtrooper Blaster and Princess Leia blaster at Toy Fair, but they made no mention of this item. More details as they emerge!

Name for New Yoda Novel You Seek…
March 18, 2004 | 5:13 PM EST | Keri

As reorted by the official site and due for a scheduled release in December 2004, the newest paperback novel featuring our favorite green Jedi Master Yoda will be entitled Dark Rendezvous. This EU novel of Yoda’s mission to discover the truth behind a surprising peace offer from the Separatists is written by author Sean Stewart and looks to be another great novel to look forward to as we wait for Episode 3 to grace the silver screen.

Tanus Spijek Findings
March 18, 2004 | 4:57 PM EST | Keri

A YakReader from Chicago writes in with this report regarding the elusive Elom:

“I ran across 4 of these today (all at Walmarts in the suburbs of Chicago), so people shouldn’t have too much trouble finding them at retail in the next few days/weeks.
Yes, I left 3 of them on the pegs for others to find.”

I myself was lucky enough to find one Tanus at my local scalper-infested Wal-Mart yesterday as well. Patience and perserverance will always pay off when hunting the latest and greatest figure.

Falcon Favorite!
March 17, 2004 | 5:47 PM EST | Keri

With all the excitement of the release of the Original Trilogy version 1.3 to DVD, (finally!) today’s Falcon Favorite recalls the same excitement fans all over the world felt when the Special Editions of the Trilogy were released into theaters once again. YakReader Mark D. shares his large display and the journey he took to make it whole once again.

“As a collector of SW displays I was very excited to finally aquire a special edition floor standee. When it arrived all the way from the other side of the U.S. I found that it was missing the “ARS” block letters and the guy I bought it from didn’t have them. He refunded my money and let me keep the display but what good was an incomplete display? For 3 years it sat in the box, unassembled, and I exhausted all my resourses to find the letters. Then one day, out of the blue, a buddy e-mailed me from another state and told me that his basement had flooded and that all of his displays were ruined. I asked him if he had this display, which he did, and asked him if he would sell me the missing letters. He shipped them to me free of charge and I now have a complete display. It is, by far, my favorite piece in my Star Wars collection.”

Friends are such an integral part of life, and even more so when in the most unexpected times we are rewarded with gifts of all kinds! Remember to send in your Falcon Favorite from your collection here and have it featured for collectors around the world to enjoy!

Thank you and again we are sorry for the troubles.

Clone Wars Coming to FCBD!
March 16, 2004 | 8:04 PM EST | Mark B

Over the past couple of years Diamond Comics has sponsored a day each year that is called “Free Comic Book Day” (FCBD). On this day, all participating Comic Book stores offer an assortment of comic books that are (you guessed it) FREE! Since Dark Horse comics is one of the sponsors, this year we will be seeing a Clone Wars comic on FCBD. More details are to come, but be on the lookout for your local stores advertising this over the next couple of months. This year FCBD is on Saturday, July 3. (Make nice to one of your local comic book guys and they might just save you one of these!).

Bounty Hunting Today: Vintage TI Watch
March 16, 2004 | 4:34 PM EST | Keri

You may find yourself asking what is a vintage TI watch? Well, TI is the abbreviation of Texas Instruments, and the watches they made for the original trilogy are some of my personal favorites.

Today’s auction is for a complete mint watch produced in 1977 shortly after the film’s release. It includes not only a super cool LED digital watch, but a sheet of stickers that could be used to change the look of the face, which are usually missing from most watches.

Click on through to the link below to start your watch collection today with this nice minty example and tell time 70s style!

Tanus Spijek Missing at Amazon
March 16, 2004 | 12:17 PM EST | Keri

EDITORS NOTE**: I have noticed before that when you select the option to be notified by email as to when the item will be in-stock, they will send these emails out after your email has been in the database for a while and they have not received. I have received these emails before only to have them show up in stock within two weeks.

YakReader JediCougar writes in with this latest report from Amazon:

“Greetings from Amazon.com.

We’ve recently learned from our supplier that the item you requested to be notified about,
Star Wars 3.75″ Basic Figure: Jabba’s Sail Barge –
Tanus Spijek, will not be available in the foreseeable future.

It’s possible that someone may be selling this item through Amazon.com Auctions or zShops. We encourage you to search for it there if you’re still interested in purchasing this item.”

At only 1 per case, looks like Tanus may be a tough find at stores, hopefully there will be other options at online stores, rather than having to deal with slimy scalpers elsewhere. Good Luck Hunting everyone!

Shop Star Wars.Com Update
March 14, 2004 | 11:36 AM EST | Bill

It looks like the new official Star Wars Shop is working hard to keep customers happy. Yak Reader PCS send us this:

“I was one of the people who got an early order in on Wednesday morning to StarWarsShop.com. I ordered the Exclusive Clone Trooper bust and was quite disappointed to hear from the folks that my order was cancelled… considering I got up at 5:00 a.m. to begin checking to see if the site was live. I e-mailed their customer service department about the situation, asking them if people who had ordered exclusives would get any priority when it came time to re-order. Here is what I received back via e-mail:

“Dear Customer,
We understand your concern regarding priority on orders of limited
quantity items such as the green trooper bust, vader cinemacast, etc. We
are attempting to come up with a solution that will allow those who
purchased such items on March 10 to retain their priority. We will update
you on our progress shortly.”

Sincerely,
Customer Service
StarWarsShop.com

I hope everyone who got up very early in the morning like I did to get an order in will be persistent in demanding priority in the re-order process.”

There’s Silver In Them There TRU Stores
March 14, 2004 | 11:35 AM EST | Bill

Yak Reader Steve sent in this report:

“Just a quick note, I stop’d by my local TRU and found not 1 but 4 silver clone troopers on the pegs, they rang up $4.99 each. Found em at Joliet TRU.”

Judging from how many Ebay sellers claim to have the Silver Clones in hand, it looks like a number of stores may have gotten them in. Have patience if they aren’t at your store yet, they will be.

Star Wars Shop.com Update
March 11, 2004 | 9:21 PM EST | Bill

Everyone who placed orders with Star Wars Shop.com is receiving a call to confirm the information we posted from their webpage this morning. In addition we were able to get a little more information from the caller. They expect the site to be back up in as short a time as two days, or as long as a week, depending on how long it takes to resovle the issue. Also they are aware of the confusion surrounding the initial opening date/time with the lack of an announced time for the virtual doors to open. When we get emails about the reopening, a time should be included.

Star Wars Shop.Com Update
March 11, 2004 | 8:38 AM EST | Bill

Most fans now know that the Star Wars Shop was open for a few hours before closing because of technical issues. The following was posted on their page this morning. In short, the good news is if you ordered before they went down, you’ll get the Jedi patches and a free $50.00 gift certificate, the bad news it anything you ordered was canceled and you will have to reorder when they reopen:

Message to Star Wars Fans and StarWarsShop.Com Customers
Shortly after our new StarWarsShop.com opened Wednesday morning March 10, we received emails from several customers indicating that some transactional information on individuals’ orders had been transmitted to others. We immediately shut down the shop, because security of information on orders sent by our fans is our top priority.

Our eCommerce partner, Analysts International, has assured us that no one’s personal credit card information was compromised.

We are very sorry–and surprised–that this problem occurred. We are working closely with Analysts International, which is responsible for handling the transactions on the site, to find out how this could have happened. We won’t reopen StarWarsShop.com until we are certain that this issue has been resolved.

As a result of the situation, we will not be processing any of the transactions placed Wednesday morning. You will need to place your order again when the shop reopens. All customers who placed an order before the site was taken down will be mailed a free set of Jedi movie patches and a $50 gift certificate to use for Star Wars merchandise on the site. We will give the entire Star Wars community sufficient notice before we relaunch the site.

Again, we apologize for the current situation and promise to keep you updated. We know that Star Wars fans want–and deserve–the very best, and we will continue to strive to ensure that our high standards are met

Falcon Favorite!
March 10, 2004 | 5:12 PM EST | Keri

This week’s Falcon Favorite from YakReader Steve is not only a great item, but has a wonderfully written story to go along with it, making it a very special submission.

“Most would consider the story to go with my favorite item as “EU,” but I’m hopeful that Mr. Lucas will soon be adding it to the official canon…

As we all know, Luke & the rebels blew up the first Death Star and sent Vader spinning off into space. What most people haven’t heard is that the Emperor was extremely ticked off at the loss of DS-1 and vented his anger by making an example out of everyone’s favorite Sith Lord.

The Empire had a huge deficit (Palpatine being a “tax and spend” liberal), so Darth Vader was forced to go out and raise funds for the second Death Star by traveling around the universe to shakedown the local populations. Adding insult to injury, Vader was stuck with a couple of smelly jawas (accountants, apparently) for company.

One of their stops was Bonanza Motors in Burley, Idaho! The upcoming visit was frequently advertised on the radio, so with a little begging and whining, my parents consented to take me. I would’ve been about four years old, and seeing Darth Vader “live and in person” made a lasting impression. I left the car dealership the proud owner of the picture that has been a treasured possession ever since.”

Thanks for sharing the great picture and story with us Steve, evoking all of those good warm and fuzzy childhood memories we all have.
Remember to send in your favorite item from your collection here to share with fans around the world!

Bounty Hunting Today: Custom 12″ Ephant Mon
March 9, 2004 | 5:39 PM EST | Keri

I know I have been featuring a lot of custom items for auction on Ebay, but I am continually blown away by the workmanship on these great fan-made creations!

Today’s auction is truly exceptional if you are looking to put together a 12″ Jabba’s Palace diorama, or are a big fan of the background alien creatures in general. This Ephant Mon is a direct counterpart to the 3 3/4″ Hasbro fan-choice figure. I cannot begin to describe the exacting details and the incredible amount of time and effort that were obviously put in on this 12″ scale custom. I will let the pictures in the auction describe what my words fail to capture.

Over at the Official Star Wars Fan Club! there is a posting up about changes…

Dear Star Wars Fan Club Member:

There are some exciting changes in the works for the Official Star Wars Fan Club! We’re not quite ready to reveal all of the details just yet, but keep an eye on www.starwars.com in the coming weeks for the full details.

In the meantime, we’ve put a temporary hold on accepting new memberships or subscriptions. All renewals and new subscriptions received before March 8, 2004 will be processed as usual. Orders received by mail after March 8 will be held until the changes are announced.

Star Wars Insider will continue to be published – we recently shipped Insider 75 (May) to the printer, and we’re hard at work on Insider 76 (June/July). Current Fan Club members will continue to receive their subscriptions. Also, we’re pleased to announce that the new 2004 membership kit will be shipped to all current members in March.

We think that you will be excited about the new direction for the Official Star Wars Fan Club. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to answer any queries about this until announcements are made on starwars.com.

Thank you for your continued support!

Target Glasses Update
March 8, 2004 | 9:04 AM EST | Bill

We’ve been getting lots of questions about the Target Exclusive Star Wars Glasses, and I’ve witnessed the confusion from Target staffers regarding this exclusive first hand. Since the most common questions will help many of our readers, we’re posting the answers here.

First, according to Target, the glass/figure sets are supposed to be on the toy aisle (not in housewares as some employees believe before they look up the DPCI)

Second, the DPCI number is 087-06-0937, with a price of $9.99.

The current wave which is out in stores has two different items, the Obi Wan/A New Hope figure and glass, and the Darth Maul/Episode 1 set. We have 3 more (Luke Snow Speeder/Empire; Slave Leia/Jedi; and Hanger Anakin/Clones) which have been confirmed as “wave 1” which certainly makes it sound like more may be on the way.

Good Hunting.

Bespin Figure Wave Surprises
March 8, 2004 | 8:58 AM EST | Bill

It looks like the 3 new figures for the Bespin wave— Leia in Bespin Gown, Lobot (thankfully non-buff), and Cloud Car Pilot are even better sculpted than they initially appeared. The team over at Galactic Hunter has posted detailed images of the wave, and here’s the surprise— the Cloud Car pilot appears to be coming with a removable helmet. Check them out here.

I found this “official” photo today of the upcoming Clone Wars Yoda Maquette that is coming from Gentle Giant. This item is due to be released in the August timeframe (look for comic book shops to start taking preorders for these in the next couple of months).

Target Star Wars Glass Exclusive Update
March 4, 2004 | 8:10 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader Chris sent in this report:

“I found them today at a Super Target in TN. I’d like to add:
1. 4 per case; 2 Obis, 2 Mauls. 2. No space on the shelves for them yet, not even a sticker. I had the stocker scan the stock # for it, and he said they had a location for them in the stockroom. So they brought them on out to me.”

Bounty Hunting Today: Life Size Speeder Bike Prop

If you ever wanted your own life-sized Speeder Bike, here is your chance to get one today! The auction featured is for a very well-built and highly detailed Speeder Bike Prop Replica that will seat one adult ( hopefully one dressed as a Biker Scout!)

This is a truly amazing item constructed out of fiberglass by fans, with a great weathered paint job. The bike is huge and I’m sure needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. If you have the room in your collection, this is definetly a one of a kind prop that will make heads turn.

Falcon Favorite!
March 3, 2004 | 4:58 PM EST | Keri

This week’s Falcon Favorite sent in by YakReader Charlie is a nice prop from Episode I which holds special meaning and looks great framed on the wall too!

“Q-Tip: this isn’t just any ordinary Q-tip, this is an actual prop from a Star Wars movie! More precisely, from the pod race scene in The Phantom Menace. When the pod racers are zipping around the stadium, all of those little specks that make up the spectators are actually different colored Q-tips. Why they didn’t use computer animation, I couldn’t tell you. Maybe some interns needed something to do. Lorne Peterson (ILM Special Effects) was giving a talk at the Field Museum in Chicago back when the Magic of Myth exhibit was touring the country. I got to go with my Dad as part of a special invite only night. I was fascinated to hear Lorne talk about the various special effects he has worked on, and afterwards, I went to ask him a question and get his autograph. As I was talking to him, an assistant came up and handed him a little baggie with these Q-tips in it. He said, “oh yeah, here’s an actual prop from The Phantom Menace.” He told me I could have one if I wanted one. Of course I did! It also had that white label on it. On the other side of the label is Lorne’s autograph. While it may not be the coolest prop out there, and I know others have some pretty incredible props, it’s the only Star Wars prop I’ll ever own so I think it’s pretty cool.”

I want to thank everyone for all their unique submissions and for the success of this weekly feature. I have many wonderful items to showcase in the upcoming weeks and will post every picture and story that I receive in email here.

Head on over to Master Replicas and pick up one of these (or the set of 3 – Luke, Obi, and Mace) today, you won’t be sorry you added these to your collection.

Cheers…The Glasses Are Out
March 2, 2004 | 9:23 PM EST | Bill

For the first time in nearly 20 years, Star Wars glasses are available again in the style of those at Burger King when the Original Trilogy was released. This time they are at Target, the price is around $10.00. Thanks to all the Yak Readers who’ve written in. Good Hunting.

Closer to Geonosis or Kamino?
March 2, 2004 | 6:45 PM EST | Mark B

Slightly off topic here, but definitely newsworthy. NASA announced today that the Opportunity Mars Rover has found VERY strong evidence of the Martian surface having been covered with water at some time in the past. Using the same methods geologists would have used on Earth, the scientists has concluded that Mars once had flowing water, which would be the first indication that Mars could have supported life at some time in the past. A very exciting day for those of us interested in space! Findings like this bring us one step closer to the worlds envisioned by George Lucas in the Star Wars movies.

Bounty Hunting Today: Taco Bell Store Display
March 2, 2004 | 6:11 PM EST | Keri

After seeing the different DVD packaging designs for the upcoming release of versions 1.3 of the Trilogy, I found this nice Special Edition display item on Ebay from good old Taco Bell!

Back in 1997, the Special Editions of the Trilogy were “Back on the Big Screen” allowing some for the first time to see the films on a format other than VHS on TV at home. Although for purists, the films were not we had hoped for, it was still nice to see them in theaters again. Along with the films came a marketing blitz, including fast food resteraunts, one of which was Taco Bell. The stores were adorned with large vinyl signs as well as nice hanging displays for contests and of course for the Kid’s Meals with great decorative boxes and an awesome toy inside.

At one time, these store display items were fetching prices that were to say the least not cheap. However, these colorful displays can be found on Ebay with regularity for very reasonable prices, like the auction featured today. Click on through below to start decorating your house with this great store display!

Congrats Peter Jackson!
March 1, 2004 | 9:53 AM EST | Mark B

While our focus here is on the Star Wars series, I cannot help but send out congratulations to Peter Jackson and everyone that was involved in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Last night they won a very well deserved 11 Academy Awards including Best Director and Best Picture. The Best Picture award was the first time a fantasy film has ever won in that category. The 11 awards tied both Ben Hur and Titanic for the most wins. LOTR won in all 11 categories it was nominated. My hat’s off to Peter Jackson and crew for taking a huge chance in bringing one of the most beloved series of books to life and doing so in a way that won these well deserved Oscars. For more on their wins and the “official-unofficial” party, be sure to check out The One Ring.net
