Bounty Hunting Today: Weekends Yoda Pin
June 29, 2004 | 5:08 PM EST | Keri

After my wonderful honeymoon in Vegas, it’s nice to return with a new edition of Bounty Hunting, this time featuring a Limited Edition Yoda Pin.

If you don’t live in Florida, or don’t plan on visiting the happiest place on earth, otherwise known as Disney World then Ebay is the place for you to shop for these exclusive Star Wars Weekends items. Today’s featured auction is for none other than our favorite dimunitive green Jedi Master Yoda. The pin is limited to a run of 1,000 so it is not the most overproduced Disney item out there. In amongst the massive amounts of limited/exclusive items flowing out of Disney’s doors, I find these small enameled pins to be the most interesting and unobtrusive items to collect. The image is nicely done, and captures the scene of Yoda’s duel with Dooku in a small space very well.

Click on through below to add this limited edition pin to your collection today for a reasonable price.

Store Reports Galore!
June 28, 2004 | 6:40 PM EST | Keri

This latest store report just in from YakReader Mourning7:

“the new vader tie w/ figure is starting to hit here in nor-ca found two cases at toys r us.”

YakReader Matthew also reports in with this information:

“Just wanted to let you know that the Ultra Ewok with Glider is at
walmart.com for $9.96 for those who are still looking for it.”

I myself have not seen any of the new OTC vehicles at any of my local TRU’s in the North Texas area. In fact, on a routine figure run today, I finally saw the TRU Red Leader and X-Wing on the shelves.

Target seems to be the place to pick up the repacked OTC Lightsabers, although none of the Targets that I frequent have recieved any of the newer waves of the repack figures with exclusive glass. I did however pick up a deluxe General Riekkan on Clearance at Target for $4.98, along with the Wampa and C-3PO at the 50% off discount as well. So be sure check your local Target’s back endcaps for some possible savings.

Of course, as always each region has different prices and assortments all arriving across the country at different times. Patience is the ulitmate key as we all await the latest and greatest offerings Hasbro. I urge everyone to use the Force and resist inflated prices perpetuated by the evil scapling community.

The Original Trilogy Collection– At TRU NOW
June 26, 2004 | 10:08 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader Vaderquest send in this report from Fayetville NC:

Hey guys, just wanted to let all you know that the OTC x-wing,tie and falcon are starting to hit toys r us.i found the x wing and tie tonight!! i missed the falcon by about 10 minuts.one guy bought both falcons(unnngh)all is good.the employee said they had more stuff in back but was unsure of the location.i will try and send a pix as soon as i get my camera working and keep up the good work.

UPDATE:

Yak Reader Troy wrote in reminding collectors about helping others:
“I just wanted to say that I love the site and I wanted to respond to the posting of someone taking both falcons. I was wondering if you could remind people who come to this site that star wars are just toys and that they should only take what they need, not be a hog . it’s not like it’s hard enough already to find stuff as it is. just a reminder to think about the other fan who collects as well. thanks , keep up the good work!”

UPDATE #2– Another viewpoint from Yak Reader Philip:

While I have no love for collectors who horde and/or scalp, if I see two of a particular toy in a store, I will often buy both–one for me, and one for my brother who is also a collector–because stuff has been so hard to find. So maybe the guy Vaderquest saw buying both Falcons was actually thinking of other collectors by picking one up for a friend. Call me naive, but it could happen.

This just in from Action-HQ.com:

Japanese Pepsi Cola Botte Cap Figures
STAR WARS & SPIDERMAN 2

This month, more limited edition Pepsi bottle caps coming your way

phenomenom and we can only imagine that soda bottle collectors use
these to cover over the normal bottle cap for display purposes as
these caps are bigger and do not have any threads on the inner side.

Nevertheless if you are a collector of Star Wars or Spiderman and
want something cool and unique which aren’t readilly available in
outside of Japan, then you just gotta have these. They vary in size but
are around 2.25″ tall and comes packaged randomly and attached to 1
litre size Pepsi bottles.

For Star Wars, there will be 35 random characters available in the
assormtent and for Spiderman 2 movie, there will be 15.

They are currently on PreOrder now at Action-HQ.com
scheduled to be delivered early July!

Also the newly revised and improved OT version of the Millennium Falcon will be in stock next week. Be the first kid on your block to have a falcon which can hold Han and Chewie in the cockpit as well as having lighting engines! Click here to order.

EIII Casting News
June 24, 2004 | 9:26 PM EST | Bill

While we generally don’t post spoilers, given the fact that this concerns a character from the Clone Wars Animated Series we decided to go ahead and post it. Thanks to Yak Reader William for the tip from the IMDB’s archive:

British actor Gary Oldman will play the “deadliest”
Star Wars villain ever in the franchise’s final
prequel Episode Three. The “Harry Potter And The
Prisoner Of Azkaban” star will voice character General
Grievous, who is a part-alien/part-robot. And insiders
say Oldman – who is considered to be one of the finest actors
of his generation – was handpicked for the part
by series creator George Lucas, who is a big fan of
his work. A source says, “George thought Gary was the
ideal choice.” According to reports, Oldman’s
character will try and hunt down Jedi knights Anakin
Skywalker and Obi-wan Kenobi in the film, which is due
to hit cinemas next summer.

Highlight the above to read. (You didn’t think we’d totally spoil it did you?)

A: No! As a matter of fact, as part of our Original Trilogy Collection, three 12″ figures will be available at most fine retailers this fall in vintage style packaging: Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, and Stormtrooper. Check out the Republic News postings from Feb 13 and May 12, 2004 for more details.

Q: What are the names of the figures included in sets 3 and 4 of the Jedi Council Scene Packs?

A: Set 3 will include Stass Allie, Agen Kolar, and Shaak Ti. Set 4 will include Saesee Tiin, Adi Gallia, and Anakin Skywalker. Both scenes will be available this fall exclusively at Toys R Us.

You can also read it here.

Scouting An Exclusive
June 16, 2004 | 7:35 PM EST | Bill

Lucasarts has posted a high resolution carded images of the Scout Trooper exclusive which will be available with Star Wars Battlefront. The good news is while it is an exclusive carded figure– the figure and weapon are not band new. It is a dirty scout trooper with a large blaster rifle. Also if you are not a gamer, there have been some reports on-line that the “exclusive” carded figure may be available from the Fan Club.Click here to see the image at Lucasarts site.

Secret Shopper info
June 16, 2004 | 4:16 PM EST | Ben

Great info from a source in the retail industry who attended an official briefing on Episode III merchandising.

First, we received a brief presentation of the 4,5,6 DVD set. Still nothing any of us hasn’t heard before. They played the trailer currently running on Hyperspace.

As far as the Episode III movie overview, this one was not nearly as spoiler laden as the one for Ep II was but I did see some rough footage from a couple key scenes, along with some storyboards and sketches.

To put it in perspective, after the Episode II presentation, the only thing about Episode II that remained a complete surprise to me was the whole Death Star thing. That was it. Anyway…

Vader / Lava themed product packaging (saw a sample, SWEET!!!!)

HEAVY Vader presence in all marketing (saw some samples – again, SWEET!!!)

(NOTE: On more than one instance, some of the artwork incorporated the lone word “REVENGE” (Revenge of the Sith perhaps?)

(Secondly, during the commentary, the phrase “closing the circle” or the “circle being complete” was also used more than once in a very “wink-wink” kind of way. (Tagline?)

First Ep III teaser trailer debuts in Nov. 04

First full trailer, April 05

Ep III Product release first week of April 05 (start saving!)

A mention of an increased focus on high-end collectables (master replicas? gentle giant?)

Eps 1, 2, 4, 5 & 6 to air on FOX throughout the month of April 05

Clone Wars Series 1 & 2 DVD coming in Q1 of 05

Clone Wars Series 3 to air April 05 (Ten 12 minute chapters)

Licenses renewed with BK & Pepsi / Frito-Lay

License with as-yet undisclosed wireless service.

LIVE ACTION TV series to premire in 2006!!!

Wow, that’s a lot of tidbits to chew on!

R2, hyperdrive transfer circuits aren’t working!
June 16, 2004 | 4:00 PM EST | Ben

Many people are complaining about the Hyperspace renewal debacle.

If you signed up for Hyperspace on day one, your subscription has lapsed by now. If you renewed in early June (when you got the renewal email) your credit card has likely been charged and yet you STILL might not have access. The renewal “warnings” indicate that personalized email addresses are up for grabs if your account lapses so this may be an even bigger issue for many people once they DO receive their codes.

Tons of people are complaining that the renewal process is simply NOT working. The common theme is the frustration that customer service is simply not happening.

I personally tend to be rather harsh when it comes to things like this. Live by the sword, die by the sword. They always try to increase the number of subscribers; they need to be prepared to service them. Customer SERVICE personnel need to treat the “fans” as respected customers. In my opinion, the proper way to deal with this is to extend access to everyone whose account has lapsed until they get caught up.

Lucas Teases Episode III Title
June 15, 2004 | 3:30 PM EST | Ben

USA Today reports that George Lucas conceeds that fans have already correctly guessed the upcoming prequel’s title- but added that he won’t announce it until November, when the first trailer hits theaters. The guesses include Rise of the Empire, but Lucas told USA Today: “No, that’s not it.”

Is it Revenge of the Sith? Lucas smiled knowingly, backed away and teased the newspaper: “That’s a possibility. Lots of titles out there.”

Bounty Hunting Today: Data East Trilogy Pinball
June 13, 2004 | 1:57 PM EST | Keri

Although Pinball machines seem “old” to most young kids in arcades who do not have clue one as to how to play them, those of us who saw Star Wars when it came out in 1977 know what Pinball is all about. The pinnacle of Pinball has long since passed, but updated machines with interactive graphics and multiballs have been made recently, most being movie themed.

The auction featured today is for the best of the three Star Wars pinball machines made in my opinion, which is the 1992 Data East Trilogy Pinball. The Sega Special Edition Trilogy Pinball has great artwork on the sides and on the board itself, the Episode I Williams machine has the best graphics, but neither machine has the charm and all out play-ability of the Data East machine.

The Data East Pinball has a lever which shoots the ball, and allows the player to attempt a skill shot on the screen graphic. The board has lots of colorful graphics, a rotating Death Star and a 3-D R2-D2 who moves up and down and beeps when the ball goes under him. The Death Star door opens and if the ball goes inside it blows up on screen and you get MultiBall insanity! The voices are from the films and if you can’t already tell I have personally played this game many times over the years.

If you have the room and the available funds to purchase this particular Pinball machine, I highly recommend it. The machine in this auction is complete with the plastic Vader head topper and has been thoroughly cleaned, with all burnt bulbs and rubber bumpers replaced. Click on through to own your very own Star Wars Pinball machine today!

Some Off Topic Alien vs. Predator News
June 12, 2004 | 4:13 PM EST | Keri

As many of you know I am a very big Alien fan, and I could not resist posting this link to a brand new trailer for the upcoming Alien vs. Predator movie coming to a mulit-plex near you this summer! The story appears to be well, a tad bit on the weak side, but all the Aliens and Predators fighting amongst the silly humans is absolutely irrestible from my standpoint. While we all wait for Episode III, here is a link to another highly anticipated Fox franchise film we will pack the theaters to see on August 13th.

Now back to our regularly scheduled Star Wars news and updates…

Bounty Hunting Today: Plush Jedi Mickey Mouse
June 12, 2004 | 12:34 AM EST | Keri

The large bulk of items available for those who are lucky enough to attend the Star Wars Weekends Events in Orlando at Disneyworld seem to be pins and the occasional T-shirt and poster.

Today’s featured auction breaks that mold as it is for a Mickey Mouse as a Jedi Knight plush doll. The familiar mascot of all things Disney has adopted many guises throughout his lengthy career including a wizard, a tailor and now the formidable mouse dons a Jedi Robe and carries a blue bladed Lightsaber. The plush of course is a Disneyworld exclusive and has Star Wars Weekends 2004 embroidered on his foot. If you collect Star Wars plush dolls or Disney exclusives then this very well done Jedi Mickey will be a welcomed new addition!

A New Hope Slot Machine!
June 11, 2004 | 12:35 AM EST | Keri

Straight from The Official Site comes news of a brand new Slot Machine made by IGT based on A New Hope coming to casinos at the end of 2004.

Players may find it more than irrestible to play these new one-armed bandits due to the multiple bells and whistles that sets this slot apart from the rows upon rows of other slots. Joe Kaminkow, IGT Vice President of Product Design shares details of this new slot: “Real 3D motion-captured artwork is also evident in the game and takes slot machines to a new level achieved by very few games or even motion pictures. The game also has a unique mechanical representation of the Death Star that hovers high above the game, rotates and stops on winning values — sort of an orb-shaped wheel. To play it all you do is select the maximum lines available as well as maximum bet and you are qualified for an opportunity to win a multimillion-dollar jackpot. In the bonus you try to advance through the Death Star to escape and eventually help Luke and Han blow it up at the end of the bonus round.”

Although I cannot locate any pictures as of yet, it sounds like a very interesting and very colorful slot machine. I myself will be leaving shortly to have my honeymoon in Las Vegas and wish these new Star Wars slots were there already to be played. You may read the entire article here.

Bounty Hunting Today: Master Replicas Artist Proofs
June 9, 2004 | 7:44 PM EST | Keri

We are all familiar with the prop replicas avaialble to the general public for purchase, built in exacting standards to their movie counterparts by Master Replicas. However, today’s auction provides some artist proofs which are not necessarily made easily available to the general collector.

The artist proofs are used to mass produce the specific prop, and are used for publicity shots or used at trade shows to promote “the next big thing” soon to be available for purchase. Artist proofs are very limited and for the collector looking for something outstanding to add to a prop collection, this is one of the pinnacles, outside of owning a movie-used prop.

The auction featured below is for an artist proof Yoda Lightsaber, with a reasonable Buy-it-now price if you wish to end the auction and add it to your collection. Always remember to check any sellers other auctions for any other related items they may have for sale. Such as today’s seller who has more artist proof and prototype prop items including a piece from the 1979 film Alien.

Bounty Hunting Bonus: Vintage Vinyl Figure Cases
June 8, 2004 | 1:49 PM EST | Keri

While doing the time-honored tradition of surfing Ebay, looking for those bargain priced “hidden” auctions, I ran across a very nice lot of 4 Vintage vinyl action figure carrying cases. The auction includes the Star Wars design case, 2 different Empire Strikes back designs and a peach of a hard to find Return of the Jedi case. If you are looking for a near complete set of these vinyl figure cases, (the only one missing is the Star Wars design with ESB logo) this auction is a no reserve with a nice low opening bid. Remember that searching Ebay high and low for bargains can pay off in the long run for a collection on a budget.

Bounty Hunting Today: ESB Laserdisc Proof Sheet
June 8, 2004 | 1:17 PM EST | Keri

While today’s item is interesting and something that I have not seen before, it may not be for everyone’s collection and/or tastes. However, for those collectors looking for anything unusual that is vintage Star Wars this is something not found everyday.

Today’s auction is for a printer’s proof for the cover art for the Empire Strikes Back RCA CED Laserdisc. In the early days of home video, the CED Laserdiscs preceded the Laserdiscs that were like 12″ LP sized DVD’s and CD’s. The CED Laserdiscs were thin “sheets” that contained the movie which were incased in a hard plastic cover that was then inserted into the player. They were big and bulky and weren’t around for too long, but some of the top sellers were Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back.

The proof sheet has the beautiful ESB Style A poster art on the front with various stock photos on the back as well as a description of the film. Again, for collectors looking for every bit of Star Wars they can get their hands on, this is certainly something not easily found.

Bounty Hunting Today: Custom General Grievous
June 6, 2004 | 11:07 AM EST | Keri

I always appreciate the countless hours and effort that go into making completely custom figures, and the auction spotlighted today is no exception.

Today’s auction is for a fully custom General Grievous, the mysterious new character introduced to us in the Clone Wars cartoons, and will also appear in Episode III. Each piece of this figure was constructed by the seller, and the figure includes many nice features such as magnetic points on the hands, feet and belt which can hold lightsabers, a magnetically attached cloth cape and a base which he can stand upon when not slaughtering Jedi.

The detail, paint and likeness on this figure are astounding making this a stunning addition to any collection.

Bounty Hunting Today: ROTJ Kites
June 5, 2004 | 1:54 PM EST | Keri

Although the weather is starting to get warmer as summer is upon most of us in the world, hot windy afternoons are perfect for the time-honored tradition of flying a kite. The only kite to fly of course is one with some sort of Star Wars design emblazened on it!

Today’s auction features two vintage ROTJ kites made by Spectra Star back in 1983. Spectra Star made many different Star Wars as well as Indiana Jones themed kites in the 1980s which included a Wicket design, Speeder Bike Dragon tail, a multi-character box kite (the coolest in my opinion) and a Vader Streamer Kite. The Luke and Vader kites, like Wicket up for bids in today’s auction are more of a classic kite shape. The kites are mint in their original sealed plastic packaging and retain their bright colors.

Although not for every collector, these kites are a great addition to those who enjoy every aspect the Star Wars licensing machine has to offer.

Bounty Hunting Today: Vintage Jawa Sandcrawler
June 3, 2004 | 9:38 PM EST | Keri

As many of you know, I was away for quite some time as I was preparing for and did get married. I now happily return to my posting duties and bring you a brand new edition of Bounty Hunting Today.

As many fans rejoiced, the new Sandcrawler was brought out of the shadows of near destruction to once again lope across the tractless voids of own Tattoine dioramas in the very near future. Also, the countless pictures of the new OTC line harkened me back to the simpler times where it all began in the toy universe with the original Kenner remote control Sandcrawler.

The Kenner Sandcrawler was large and bulky, all molded in one color burnt-orange plastic with the obligatory decals to be stuck on, only to fall off after some spirited play. The Sandcrawler was oh so cool, and well to me still is today. They are rather hard to find boxed and complete, as well as expensive to say the least. However, just as Ebay can be a blessing as well as a curse (due to the scalping), it can also bring about less than perfect but still presentable subjects for very reasonable prices. Today’s Sandcrawler is a perfect example of just that: something incomplete and not perfect, but nonetheless at a price most anyone at any level of collecting can afford: $2.95 as an opening bid price. This Sandcrawler is missing its elevator, as most loose specimens do, but it still works which is a big plus. After a nice cleaning, and some traveling around the house, this Sandcrawler would be a great companion to the updated version arriving soon.

Scalping @ A New High??
June 3, 2004 | 9:15 PM EST | Mark

Now, we are all well aware of the scalpers on the web. However in browsing Ebay today, I WAS STUNNED to see these two auctions.

Brought to you by Cloud City Collectibles, I will not even post a link to their site at this point. They have two R2-D2 OTC (YES THE BRAND NEW FIGURES) listed at a WHOPPING $34.99 each. They are AFA Rated at 8.5. These are not a 10, which in either case you could probably pick them up at the store in the same or better condition for the Retail price of $5.99. I find this very offensive as a collector. I could care less if it is AFA rated. A $30 markup on these new figures to me, brings in a new all time high to scalping.

You can view one of these outrageous auctions here…

For the Over 21 Crowd
June 3, 2004 | 6:06 PM EST | Mark B

Ready for the latest collaboration between George Lucas and Francis Coppola? How about a 2002 Lucas Skywalker Ranch Chardonnay? This has been a hugely popular wine from the Niebaum-Coppola Winery. At $30 a bottle, it is pretty expensive compared to action figures, but pretty inexpensive as far as wine is concerned. I have personally had some of the Coppola Merlot and I’ll tell you, it was incredible. If you are of legal age, pick up a bottle – hey, you can pop it open to celebrate the release of Star Wars on DVD later this year!

New Master Replicas Releases Today
June 3, 2004 | 9:43 AM EST | Mark B

If you happen to be a fan of that OTHER Star Thing show as well as Star Wars,Master Replicas has released a couple of really cool Star Trek replicas today. I believe both are from the original TV series. They have a new Klingon Disruptor (Pistol), and a Tricorder. The one thing that always impressed me about Star Trek was how items from that show ended up being developed in real life. If you think about it, that Tricorder is kind of the grandfather of today’s PDAs….now if we could just develop a Transporter….

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Channeling The Force
June 2, 2004 | 10:14 PM EST | Bill

Always in motion the future is… however the Yak’s sources are very attuned to messages about future goodies. We’ve just seen the reports of the Sandcrawlers eventual release which have been around for some time proven true. Now the force brings word that one of the last Vintage vehicles to be released is high on Hasbro’s plans for a future release. While a release time is unclear, our sources say the Cloud Car will see a modern release— just what we need now that the Cloud Car Pilot has joined the modern line. The ghost of yakface past is usually quite on point… but you don’t have to take our word for it.

Gentle Giant Green Clone Trooper Sargeant Arrives!
June 2, 2004 | 11:55 AM EST | Keri

I was awoken this morning with the ring of my doorbell, only to find a large box from FedEx containing my Gentle Giant Exclusive Green Sargeant Clone Trooper mini-bust ordered from shop.starwars.com.

The packing was very good, with the Clone Trooper’s box wrapped in bubble wrap, surrounded by big wads of packing paper to insure no harm to the Clone Trooper’s Gentle Giant box. All in all, I am very pleased with the Star Wars Shop. It seems after the initial glitch in the ordering system, things have defintely improved all the way around.
