Color Clone Wars Yoda Sketch Card – Update
July 28, 2004 | 9:44 PM EST | Keri

Thanks to the many YakReaders who wrote in regarding the full color artist sketch card that was featured in the Bounty Hunting article today.

Allow me to clarify some points regarding this card. First of all, this card was not pulled in full color from any of the boxes of trading cards. I also did consider the fact that the card could be a “fraud”, but the auction does state that the seller has a Certificate of Authenticity from the artist.

YakReader Keith reported in with a great explanation regarding the color cards, so as to avoid any further confusion:

“All of the artists were allowed to keep extra blank sketch cards and they were allowed to do with them whatever they liked. So far, 11 of these “unofficial” cards have shown up. I have images of all of them on my site.”

You may view the images of the other color trading cards on Keith’s website.Keith has a very comprehensive list of Clone Wars trading card variations on his site, along with great information for anyone who is collecting these trading cards.

New Darth Vader Voice Changer
July 28, 2004 | 6:39 PM EST | Mark B

Looks like Hasbro is releasing a new Darth Vader Voice Changer later in the year. StarWarsShop.com just listed it on their website with a delivery date of November. Sounds like it will arrive just in time to scare the heck out of that brat nephew on Thanksgiving day! (a use that is well worth the $34.99 cost!). It looks like you get a mask, chestplate, and voice changer for that price (too bad they can’t get the thing out in time for Halloween!). Head on over toStarWarsShop.com and check it out.

That’s No Moon
July 28, 2004 | 3:42 PM EST | Mark B

Well, here we have a perfect example of art imitating life. Check out the photo on THIS PAGE of NASA’s website. It’s a great photo from the Cassini Space Probe of Saturn’s moon Mimas – which looks suspiciously like a certain space station…..

(Thanks to Steve for pointing it out to us!)

Bounty Hunting Today: Full Color Yoda Clone Wars Sketch Card
July 28, 2004 | 3:04 PM EST | Keri

If you are enjoying the new trading card sets recently released by Topps as much as I am, then I am sure some of your favorite cards may be the artist sketch cards. Each sketch card is slightly different and unique, individually drawn by the artist to make for a very interesting collectible card as well as piece of art.

Today’s auction is something I personally have not seen and did not even know existed. Instead of the normal sketch cards which are accomplished in black and white, pen and ink, this card is in full color. The artist not only drew the image of Yoda from the Clone Wars cartoon series, but went a step further by coloring in the Jedi Master, really bringing him to life.

While the auction is not in the affordable price range for most collectors, it is defintely something worth looking at and admiring. Click on through below to enjoy this wonderful miniature work of art! Thanks to YakReader “Alan” for bringing this great auction to our attention.

The Cantina Update
July 26, 2004 | 8:24 AM EST | Bill

We’ve gotten lots of mail with questions about Joseph’s story on the Cantina Restaurant/Toy Shop in Japan. By the way in the cafe part of the Cantina the menu’s drinks and dishes are named after several Star Wars characters.

Here’s some of the questions and answers we received:

Q: I heard Mara Jada’s Autograph is by one of the bathroom doors is it really there?

A:Mara Jade was at the last location. The owner tried to take down the wall and bring it with him to the new location but it wasn’t possible. When EP1 opened the actors that played Chewbacca, Darth Vader, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Wicket were at the Cantina to sign their name. However, the Cantina has since moved from that location to their present location. Last year, the actors that were at the new location were Aayla Secura, Taun We, Zam Wessel, and young Boba Fett.http://www.cantina.co.jp/index.html

Q:Do you know the address (or web page address) of this store? I may be heading to Japan next year.

A: Here you go http://www.cantina.co.jp/index.html

Q: I was looking over your pics of the Cantina place you were at in Japan and saw some interesting pics….what is up with that Fett figure in the blue package? It looks real but the fact that nobody had reported on it before made me think it might be bootleg.

You got any more info you can give me on this? price? availability? did they have a lot at that place?

A:actually that is a custom made Boba Fett ordered by the owner of the Cantina. The figure is a regular Boba Fett but the owner had the card custom made.

VOTC Display
July 25, 2004 | 9:41 PM EST | Keri

YakReader Mike was kind enough to send in a picture of his, in my opinion interesting way of displaying the VOTC figures. It not only makes an eyecatching display, but neatly ties in the 1978 vintage Kenner line with today’s version of the vintage Hasbro line. Mike has bought 2 of each VOTC figure and has placed his original 1978 Kenner figures from his childhood in the new clamshell packages, side by side with the new VOTC figures. Enjoy!

Can you believe this?
July 23, 2004 | 8:24 PM EST | Ben

This is simply unacceptable. A reader took this picture at a Michigan K-Mart. It appears that someone bought Leia, took her home, and replaced her with the “Monkey-Faced” Leia (circa 1995.)

Thanks Amy for this look at the Dark Side of the hobby.

Final Words Regarding Sam Goody and VOTC
July 23, 2004 | 3:09 PM EST | Keri

First of all, I would like to thank all the YakReaders who wrote in as well as sent in their scans of receipts from Sam Goody stores where they were able to purchase the VOTC line of Star Wars figures.

YakReader Mike who made the initial report sent in the scan of his receipt as proof:

YakReader Tony also sends in this scan of his receipt from Wilmington, NC:

This final report comes from YakReader John:

“I too can say that in my location (Oklahoma City, OK) that our local Sam Goody and Suncoast DO carry action figures! Not only that, but Star Wars. I went in just yesterday and saw the OTC Leia, Lobot, C-3PO repack, etc. As well as VOTC Han, Ben, and Leia at both locations. Sam Goody still has tons of McFarlane figures, as well as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Heart toys that’ve been there forever.

When I was in Florida earlier in the summer, the local Sam Goody didn’t have a toy section at all, rather, they had a very small area where they had some “collectibles” that was laughable. So yes, I think it does vary from location to location.”

Whether or not the Sam Goody store in your area has action figures at all indeed does vary from store to store, state to state. Just as stores in the MN region have them, it would appear that none of the locations in South Florida carry action figures of any kind. Please be kind and patient when calling and asking for these figures keeping in mind that not every single store may have them. Please be rest assured that whenever store reports are made, regardless of the store, it is my sincerest attempt to only post information that is as accurate as possible. Case closed.

News From South Florida
July 23, 2004 | 1:09 AM EST | Jair

Hi guys. I just got back from New York and Miami and here’s what I found there. In New York, the big Toys r’ Us had nothing to get excited about. In Miami, Targets have on Clearance all Cartoon Series Action Figures (under 5 bucks each). K-mart has the first wave of the OTC and Wal-mart has some of the second wave out. Toys r’ Us in Miami have plenty of X-Wings and Vader’s Ties to go around. Good luck!!!

Store Reporting Today
July 21, 2004 | 3:30 PM EST | Keri

Today’s store reports include yet more VOTC sightings which consist of finding the somewhat elusive Luke.

YakReader Yodatmaster reports in with Luke findings as well as good advice to all collectors:

“i stopped at my local meijers this morning on the my way to work in auburn hills, mi and found more votc figures. looks like the asst. that meijers is getting is still containing lukes and from what i can tell, there are only 2 lukes in the asst. case. i picked up the 2 lukes to help 2 of my other friends who need them. i urge anybody to pick up extra lukes to help others.”

I also have this correction regarding K-Marts that still are open in the state of Texas from YakReader Stephanie:

“There are still a few KMarts left in Texas, including here in Lubbock. But they haven’t had any new Star Wars figures since last year.”

This is an exciting time with all the new and repacked OTC and VOTC items arriving this summer. Keep those store reports coming!

Episode III Packaging images

VOTC Store Reports and Sightings!
July 19, 2004 | 10:04 PM EST | Keri

Among the many store reports that keep coming in, I have some interesting news and a store report of my own. Today, at my local Wal-Mart here in Texas I was lucky enough to see the new VOTC figures which included Han, Leia, and Obi-Wan and No sign of Luke like everyone else. I decided to pick up only the Obi-Wan since he is one of my favorites and looked very well sculpted.

In other store report news, I headed over to my Toys R Us to find they had the OTC Vader TIE and a Jedi Council scene with Ki-Adi-Mundi. They also had the older 12″ Saga figures on clearance for $9.98 which included the Imperial Officer and Dengar (lots of each). I went up front to ask about the VOTC 12″ and the manager informed me that they are at the warehouses, but they will not be put out on shelves until August 25th, just as the Amazon site also says they will be available. I thought this was pretty interesting since there are no longer any K-Marts in Texas and none of the Targets in my area have 12″ Dolls.

In other reports YakReader Spencer writes in with this:

“I’m writing to let you know that I also found a blue jumpsuited VOTC 12″ Boba Fett at a Kmart in Poughkeespie, NY. I was also a bit surprised to see him dressed that way, especially since the back of that package shows the grey jumpsuit.”

YakReader Chris also reports:

“I found the same assortment of 12″ OTC figures at my local K-Mart in Tenn. 3 Fetts, 3 Lukes. And all 3 Fetts had the blue jumpsuit.”

I personally am still baffled as to why the 12″ Fett dolls offered for auction on Ebay have grey jumpsuits and the ones here have blue jumpsuits! Hopefully sometime soon I will be able to find one around here.

Did You Miss Out on Free Comic Book Day?
July 19, 2004 | 4:56 PM EST | Mark B

The annual “Free Comic Book Day” was held this year over 4th of July weekend. Since it was a holiday weekend, many people missed out on getting the special “Clone Wars” comic book that was given out during that day. Well, don’t miss out on this very cool story featuring two female Jedi and a guest appearance by the villian of Episode III!

I was able to get ahold of 100 copies of this issue and would like to share them with Yakface readers. Unfortunately, there is some cost involved with obtaining these, mailing, etc. So, what I am asking is you send me $5.00 by Paypal (send to mark@markandmegan.com) for 1 Copy, or $6 for 2 copies. To give everyone a chance at these, I am going to limit each person to a maximum of 2 copies. And, due to shipping costs, I am going to have to limit this offer to USA residents only.

Until you see an update here saying otherwise, I DO have some of these left!

Something from my collection…
July 19, 2004 | 9:05 AM EST | Jayson

With all the talk about the Original Trilogy coming out on DVD in September, it has reminded of the advertising campaign in 1995 when the Pre-Special Edition movies came out on something they called VHS. : ) . A guy I used to know here in the Twin Citites worked for a billboard signage company, and one day for my birthday he brought me a special gift: STAR WARS BILLBOARDS! As many of you probably remember, the VHS boxes had a head shot of either Vader, Yoda and Stormtrooper and these billboard too came in three versions. The YODA VERSION says “Experience The Force In THX®” and the VADER VERSION says “The Original One Last Time”. Each billboard in made up of eight 4′ x 6′ panel, so it measures 24′ x 8′. Needless to say these aren’t you average memorabillia and I have never seen them anywhere else, making them a very special part of my collection. I only wish I had the Stormtrooper one.

The construction cone in this photo is 2.5′ tall to give a sense of scale. Click the photo below for a larger view.

PS. I am missing a section to complete the Vader billboard, so if anyone has an extra laying around, shoot me an email : ) and I wonder if Steve Sansweet has these.

July 17, 2004 | 10:38 PM EST | Keri

With all of the great products on the horizon from Gentle Giant, one that I am really looking forward to is our favorite fussy protocol droid C-3PO. If you are wondering how exactly they made old GoldenRod so gold, its because each and every bust will be plated in 18K Gold. C-3PO will be available in December, just in time for the holidays.

Clone Wars Cartoon Series Gets Emmy Nod
July 17, 2004 | 10:27 PM EST | Keri

According to the Official Site the Clone Wars animated micro-series was nominated for an Emmy Award in the catagory of Outstanding Animated Program (for Programming One Hour or More). You may read more about the details here.

Five new expanded chapters begin on March 21, with each new chapter being 12 minutes long, instead of the previous length of 3 minutes for each episode. The series is definitely a very bright spot in the continuing Star Wars saga, being not only entertaining, but serving also as a bridge from Episode II to the long-awaited Episode III.

The 12″ OTC Fett Variations Keep on Coming
July 17, 2004 | 2:55 PM EST | Keri

Our very own John from Q&A points out yet another variation in the new 12″ OTC Fett below.

For those of you keeping score at home, we can add a new variant to go with the Blue and Gray versions of the 12″ OTC Fett. There is now a packaging variant for the 12″ Fett with Blue Jumpsuit. As you will see in the photo below, the Fett on the left has a diagonal Star Wars sticker in the top left corner.

My suspicion is that the sticker version was the first version. The date stamp on the sticker version is earlier (41321) than the non-sticker (41411) and the gray Fetts – which started hitting later than the blue – do not have the sticker.

For the variant hunters out there, this variant has been hitting at K Mart stores along with the non-sticker variant.

Other Companies Could Learn From This….
July 16, 2004 | 12:30 PM EST | Mark B

Sideshow Toy is going to have actually 4 exclusives at the UpComing San Diego Comic Con. Unlike most companies that have Con Exclusives, Sideshow is doing something to make sure you can get the exclusive – yeah, you can preorder your exclusive online! Now, this year they don’t have a Star Wars Exclusive, but they have some pretty cool ones to check out, including Smeagol from the Lord of the Rings (and if you’re going to Comic Con, you’re probably going by the Sideshow Booth to check out their new Star Wars line – so pick up one of these cool exclusives while you’re there).

Now if Hasbro, Master Replicas, and Gentle Giant could just learn from Sideshow’s idea!

Master Replicas AT-AT

This 20″ long by 19″ tall replica will be Master Replicas largest item yet. And given that this is the first time that there has been an authorized replica like this of the Imperial AT-AT, you can bet that these are going to sell out VERY quickly. VisitStarWarsShop.com to order!

July 15, 2004 | 9:56 PM EST | Bill

It looks like the focus on Darth Vader related to Episode III will be starting this year. Although only a handfull of figures have received Hasbro’s silver treatment, it looks like the Dark Lord of the Sith himself is getting another dose of the shiny finish. These pics have just surfaced on Ebay from seller Overlord 307. Click here for more.

12″ OTC Boba Fett Found with Blue Jumpsuit!?
July 15, 2004 | 6:57 PM EST | Keri

YakReader John reports in with his find of the brand new 12″ OTC Boba Fett:

“I found the new Boba Fett, and Luke. There were 3 of each no Trooper. Found at K-Mart in Colorado Springs. The color is that weird blue, and the knee guards are yellow. I didnt get the Luke but he looks like the original one.”

Interesting that once again the blue jumpsuit resurfaces, when auctions from sellers in Asia featured Fett with the more sedate grey jumpsuit. Is this blue jumpsuit the final production, or a variation? Time will tell as these 12″ OTC start hitting stores everywhere.

New KOTOR II Character Revealed!
July 15, 2004 | 12:29 AM EST | Keri

On the official Lucasarts KOTOR II: The Sith Lords website, they have a very nice screenshot and description of the newest EU Sith Lord: Darth Sion. Physically held together only by his hatred and Dark Side energy, Darth Sion has had every bone in his body shattered and rebuilt only to reek havoc on any unsuspecting Jedi Knight. You may read more about Sion and the game itselfhere.

With a tentative release date of Winter, presumably near Christmas time, this sequel looks to be a very worthy successor to the smash hit original KOTOR.

Star Wars Museum In Guatemala
July 14, 2004 | 10:57 AM EST | Jair

Hello Collectors. For those of you who didn’t know, Tikal National Park in Guatemala was one of the locations used for A New Hope, serving as the Rebels’ Base of operations on Yavin IV. Star Wars is very big here in Guatemala and one of the biggest collectors lives here. His name is Ricardo Alejos and currently is the President of the Central American Star Wars Fan Club. You can take a look at his collection by clicking the link of his Store/Museum website called Intergalactica.

A very cool feature is the trailer of a movie we’ve been working on here in Guatemala. You’ll need to have Quicktime installed to check it out. Hope you like it. Here is the link to the trailer.

If you want to send me an e-mail please send it to yakface@intelnett.com. Thanks

Boba Fett on the Weekends…
July 13, 2004 | 11:35 PM EST | Keri

If Boba Fett ever had a relaxing weekend one of the beautiful beaches of Naboo, his outfit might look something like the above image. You may go the neighborhoodies website to cast your vote for the hoodie that rocks the hardest starting Monday July 19th. You can vote once a day. Polls close every Monday morning at 11 a.m. EST when the previous week’s Neighbrhoodie of the Day submissions become eligible for election. Each week’s top vote getter becomes Neighborhoodie of the Week and captures a glamorous prize. If you wish to cast your vote, you may do so by going here.

Many thanks to YakReader Gonz for sending in his interpretation of a kinder, gentler Fett.

Stay on Target for Interesting OTC News!
July 13, 2004 | 11:19 PM EST | Keri

One interesting observation regarding the new OTC figures was sent in by YakReader Bryan:

“I didn’t know if anyone else has pointed out but the OTC figures do not have Jedi Master points. I guess this could mean that Hasbro is done with them.”

That is an interesting fact and something I was able to see in person when I was able to pick up my first OTC figure of the Scout Trooper this afternoon. After the almost complete catastrophe of auctions involving the Jedi Master Points, this is not a really surprising decision on Hasbro’s part.

Now onto some store reports! Not only is Wal-Mart the place to look for the newest OTC waves, but Targets are also getting in the action! These store reports from YakReader moonbase7 and bob suggest a toy run may be in order at your local Target:

“targets here in calif have started getting new figures in one or two cases per store of OTC – no VOTC found to date.”

“Found the latest OTC wave at a Target in Greenbelt, Maryland. Had’t heard of Targets getting the figs yet, but figured it was going to happen soon.”

Hasbro At Comicon– FREE Poster… FREE Figure… FREE Cards
July 13, 2004 | 7:25 PM EST | Bill

The title says it all. Hasbro is pulling out all the stops for Comicon. Hasbro’s web page has updated today with some really nice surprises. In addition to the posters we’ve come to look forward to the last few years, this year will also have free Galactic Heroes Scout Troopers, and cardbacks (sorry no figures) for the upcoming Unleashed Aayla Secura, Bossk, and Tusken Raider. Check it all out here on Hasbro’s page.

Oh, and we’ll also see Chewie, R2 and more of the VOTC, TRU exclusive Jedi Council Scenes III and IV, and the C-3PO and Darth Vader figure cases (Wal-Mart exclusives)!

Target Figure And Glass Sets Keep Going… And Going
July 12, 2004 | 9:32 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader Darth DTA wrote in to let us know that Tomy’s (the Japaneese Star Wars toy distributor)Star Wars Page has been updated with photos of wave 2 of the figure and glass sets.

Jedi Defender revealed today that there may be another wave after this– while none of these are prequel figures (remember a Darth Vader has been rumored for this fall to represent E3); Jedi Defender said we may also see glasses and figures based on Greedo, and Luke Skywalker.

More Store Reports We Have
July 12, 2004 | 4:17 PM EST | Keri

The store reports keep coming in as new OTC and VOTC waves have begun hitting most areas of the US. As always, the best advice I can give on finding the latest and greatest figures is to remain as calm and patient as possible. Now on to the reports!

YakReader Stormteacher reports in with this regarding the new Playskool Galactic heroes line which many of you have had success in finding:

“Today at Kmart in Grand Rapids Michigan I found the new Playskool galactic hereos 2 packs. They had the luke/r2, vader/obi, and lei/han packs. I did not know that these were out yet!!!They were 5.99 each. They also had the VOTC figs, but no luke.”

YakReader Chris sends in this report:

“Between two Wal-Marts in Uniondale and East Meadow, NY, saw all 20 OTC figures. This may be old news, but upon closer inspection, it appears that each of the Dagobah Lukes have two sets of arms and heads! One for the standing pose and another for the standing on his
hand pose! Also, what I think is a cool feature, is that the upside pose head has Luke’s hair hanging down for more realism! This, to me, is a unexpected and great Hasbro surprise!

Also at K-Mart in Long Island I saw peg stickers for the basic figures, the vintage figures, the cantina aliens set, and “Star Wars Junior” – wonder if that is the galactic heroes or the other set.”

It continues to appear that the best place to look for the OTC is your local Wal-Mart, if the figures stocked there are fairly recent, unlike my Wal-Mart which still has POTJ Bespin Secuirty Guards and Ketwols on the pegs. The VOTC is appearing at K-Marts as well as TRU. The Playskool Galactic Heroes are showing up at K-Mart also at the present moment. Target seems to be the only place not receiving new figures due to their ongoing summer clearance. Happy Hunting everyone!

Action Figure Collector’s Guide… Part 10
July 12, 2004 | 1:34 PM EST | Jair

Hi everyone. I started to post this Collector’s Guide a long time a go… in a job that’s now far, far away. Anyway, the main idea is to give you, the Star Wars Collector, a guide from the very first action figure ever released back in the ’70s. The first 9 figures I posted are: Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, Princess Leia Organa, Chewbacca, See-Threepio (C-3PO), Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, Han Solo, and Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi. If any of you wants me to post the info of those figures agian please let me know. My new e-mail is yakface@intelnett.com. For all those Latin collectors out there estoy a sus órdenes para responder sus preguntas. With all that out of the way, here is today’s post.

Figure’s Name: Sand People (a.k.a. Tusken Raider)

Released: 1978

Type of Cardbacks: SW 12 Back, SW 21 Back, ESB, ROTJ (under Tusken Raider).

Estimated Price: SW 12 Back=$312.50, SW 21 Back=$146.00, ESB=$99.50, ROTJ=$72.00, LOOSE=$18.50

I’ll post a link to view the figure later.

The Sand People action figure was released in the ROTJ card under the name Tusken Raider.

One major variation on the figure are the tubes located on the figure’s face. Those came both hollow and solid.

The Slave I That Never Was
July 11, 2004 | 10:28 PM EST | Bill

The variation hunters over at POTF2.com have found a “lost” Slave I. You may remember that Kmart was rumored to have had an exclusive Slave I with Jango Fett. Well as you can see from the photo above, it had a lot of similarities with the upcoming Target exclusive Slave I with Boba Fett in the Original Triligy line.Check out all their photos here.

E3 Toy News
July 11, 2004 | 10:22 PM EST | Bill

Yep, you read it right, E3 toy rumors are starting to surface. It seems our German Friends at 4 Inches.de have found one of the first E3 toy reports. Their info is that there will be a Beast Pack with Obi-Wan and a “Barg” this is supposed to be a reptilian animal which Obi-Wan rides!

More on Sideshow Toy License
July 10, 2004 | 2:16 PM EST | Mark B

Sideshow Toy has the press release on their new line of Star Wars Statues. Looks like they are going to be producing 1/4 scale statues (about 18 inches tall). These are going to be HIGH END, VERY LIMITED edition statues of characters from the films. The first 2 won’t be available to ship until 2005, but will be shown at the Comic Con show later this month. The first 2 statues will feature Luke and Darth Vader. The full release is HERE.

NOTE: If you have never checked out Sideshow’s line of statues, take a look at their Lord of the Rings, Aliens and Predator statues for an idea of what we will be able to expect from them. I personally own a few of the Lord of the Rings ones, and I will tell you that the photos you see on their website absolutely cannot do them justice. I’m drooling over the possibility of an 18″ tall statue of Boba Fett from these people! Check them out today!

Bounty Hunting Today: Yoda Limoges Box
July 9, 2004 | 4:38 PM EST | Keri

Created in France many centuries ago, Limoges porcelain is well-known and recognized the world over for its fine craftmanship and exquisite details. Still produced to the present day, Limoges porcelain can be found in many different incarnations such as dishes, cups and boxes. The auction featured today is a Limoges box with a Star Wars twist of course!

The Limoges box spotlighted today is in the likeness of our favorite green Jedi Master Yoda. The box is small in size, like Yoda, and contains a quote to live by “Do or do not. There is no try.” The box was originally sold as an FAO Schwarz exclusive in a limited number at a fairly expensive price to most collectors. It seems that the price on the secondary market has not dramatically declined, therefore the box is still rather on the expensive side. However, if you have the means to add this box to your collection, I highly recommend it. Click on through to the link below to add this beautiful box to your collection today!

OTC Hitting Everywhere
July 8, 2004 | 10:34 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader Jake sent in this report:
I found 3 case assortments at Walgreens in Milwaukee WI today. I found the Bespin Wave and different mixes of the Dagobah wave. I would say there had to be 20 different carded OTC figs out now. These are great.

Yak Reader Yodatmaster reports:
Stopped by Meijers this morning like I do every morning and finally found some OTC figures and not only that, they were wave 1 A NEW HOPE promo figures for the dvd collection. Looks like the Leia, Han, Luke, and Ben are either new sculpts or modified rehash which in my opinion looks good. $10 for each figure didn’t bother me too much. Meijers also had 1 case of new carded version of unleashed figures: darth sidious and jedi luke.

Sightings by Yak Reader Chris:
My local K-mart in Broomfield, Colorado had the remains of the
VOTC figures. 1 Han and 3 each of Leia and Ben. No sign of Luke.

Yak Reader Machofrijol let us know that:
Just wanted to let you know that the new OTC figures have hit southern California Wal-Marts now in Cathedral City. I don’t know anything about the case numbers but there were 12 figures, the first 11 OTC and a repeat of the biker scout, for a total of 12 figures. Also, I heard speculation that the Dagobah R2, #2 of the OTC line was a repaint of the sailbarge R2 #05 from 2004, it’s really a repaint of the 2002 SAGA coruscant Sentry, #14 figure. It comes with a red light and a new yelling sound but it’s that R2. Hopes that helps someone out there.

Yak Reader Dave said:
I was just in the Burbank, CA Toys r US and Darth’s tie fighter and Jedi council “Qui Gon” pack were on the shelves…also in a blast to the past all the old AOTC sneak preview figures where filling a rack to themselves.

And Yak Reader Greg let us know that:
Northern California: While searching for the VOTC figures, I spotted the new Galactic Heroes sets (Luke & R2; Han & Leia; Obi-Wan & Vader) at my local K-Mart. They were selling for $14.99 per set. Happy Hunting!

Bounty Hunting Today: Custom Built Star Destroyer
July 7, 2004 | 7:52 PM EST | Keri

Custom built items made by fans are often very well crafted and offer collectors a chance to own sometimes large vehicles that would be almost impossible for a large toy company to mass produce at a resonable cost for most consumers.

Today’s featured auction brings a custom built Star Destroyer to for the 3 3/4″ action figures. This is not a small ship it measures 8 feet long and 4 feet wide and can hold a TIE fighter in the bay as well. The bay and the bridge contain interior lights and there are many removable pieces allowing access to display figures inside.

This item is not for every collector’s budget, but the time, effort and attention to detail are evident in this Star Destroyer. Click on through to the link below if you would like to have Vader and his Imperial officers scanning for any Rebel activities in your house today!

Vintage OTC Reports from K-Mart?!!!
July 7, 2004 | 7:35 PM EST | Keri

Yes, believe it or not faithful YakReaders there are still K-mart stores open in some parts of the country, and yes these stores are getting in the brand new Vintage line of the OTC figures.

“To my astonishment today I walked into a KMart here in Colorado Springs, Colorado & found the first three Vintage Original Trilogy Collection Figures. Ben Kenobi, Princess Leia & Han Solo. There was a total of eight of these figures available on the pegs.”

YakReader Chris also reports in with a Vintage OTC siting:

VOTC figures. 1 Han and 3 each of Leia and Ben. No sign of Luke.”

It appears that if you live in Colorado and are looking for the Vintage OTC figures, stop in at your local K-Mart’s toy department today!

OTC Findings in Tennessee and California!
July 5, 2004 | 6:19 PM EST | Keri

YakReader Toymaster reports in with his findings as well as a few potential errors for all the variation hunters out there:

“Just wanted to let you guys know that I just cracked open two fresh
cases of OTC figures at my local Wal-Mart in Nashville, Tennessee. I was able to get all of the first 20 except Leia (#09) and Scout Trooper (#11). The case numbers are 84715A000 & 84715000Y.
Also found a couple of errors already. Right above the character description on the back of R2-D2 (#12),there is a random character that looks like a letter ‘L’ with a line through it.
Also, on the Stormtrooper (#16), the insert reads “Blaster rifle PACK” instead of “Blaster rifle rack”.”

YakReader Tony sends in this report from California, so it seems that the OTC line is beginning to hit almost everywhere, not just on the East Coast:

“I live in Tulare,California. I went to my local Wal-Mart and found some of the otc line. So if you live in California hit your local Wal-Mart!!!!!!!!!”

HUGE Announcement
July 4, 2004 | 12:30 PM EST | Mark B

The Action Figure Times has a breaking story about a new Star Wars License that will be announced at the San Diego Comic Con later this month. Sideshow Toy will be announcing their new Star Wars line at the show!! For those of you unfamilar with Sideshow, let me just say they make some of the most incredible Lord of the Rings Statues you will EVER see, along with some of the most detailed 12″ figures as well.

So, what does this mean to us as collectors? We’ll have to wait until SDCC to find out. But I’d love to see Sideshow take over the 12″ figure line from Hasbro, and come out with a line of statues like their LOTR ones. Let the speculation begin!

More OTC News Than You Can Shake a Gimer Stick At!
July 3, 2004 | 8:50 PM EST | Keri

The OTC Reports keep on coming in as the newest waves are beginning to arrive, with the majority of the reports centering from the Southeastern region of the US. As said before, keep your eyes peeled for new figures to hit the pegs this holiday! Now, on to the reports and photos!

YakReader Danny in Georgia reports in with this:
“I saw the news story about the new figures at Wal-Mart in Ga. Now my report : I live in Ga. and I went to Wal-Mart and…….it’s TRUE !!! I got a few new figures too. Here’s a pic.”

YakReader JediFx7 located in Florida writes in with this report and his interesting find of an upside-down Luke Dagobah:
“Just found one case of the new OTC assortment. The breakdown was interesting though. The case had 12 figures of which 11 were different. There was an extra Biker scout. Basically I got figures 1-11 on the check list. My Dagobah Luke was NOT in the standing position but upside down and had NO backpack for Yoda.. This is the first I have heard of this one showing up. All the others I have seen on Ebay are the standing kind. The case was 84715000Z wav 7.25 ’04. Here is a scan of the figure.. Good luck all.”

More OTC Reports I Have!
July 2, 2004 | 6:23 PM EST | Keri

Regarding the new OTC Vehicles, YakReader Terfett in Washington reports in with this bit of news:

“The Toys R Us in Everett, Wa. has in stock Red Five X-wing, Vader’s Tie, the OTC Tie Fighter and X-Wing. The OTC Tie seems to be the hot item it is out selling the rest. They have also seen the Unleased wave with the repacked Obi-Wan, and Slave Leia, the Leia has sold out, at least they are packed in the case evenly at three each. The OTC Electronic lightsabers have been see at Wal-Mart in Washington, namely Luke’s and Vaders. The Vintage Falcon has yet to hit the California warehouse for the west coast Toys R Us stores, however that could change quickly.”

Also, if you cannot or do not want to fight the crowds at your local stores for the first basic assortment of OTC figures, you may buy them online at Action Figure Express here. Thanks to YakReader jedivalkyrie for the heads up.

OTC Figure Sightings at Wal-Mart in Georgia
July 2, 2004 | 6:16 PM EST | Keri

YakReader Jedhed Luke writes in with this newest report regarding the OTC figures long anticipated arrival:

“Just wanted to let you know that about 8 cases of new OTC figs hit the pegs at my local Wal-Mart in Alpharetta, Georgia. The suburban Atlanta store had numerous boxes of the figures sitting on a pallet early this morning at about 1AM. I found three different assortments. The first case I opened, with a case number ending in Z, contained the Dagobah wave and some assorted repacks. A second case, with a number ending in 0, contained the Bespin wave and some repacks. A third case, ending in a Y, contained a mix of both and other repacks. All the Dagobah Lukes were the upright variety, not Handstand Boy. I bought at least one of all the new figures, plus an additional Dagobah Luke and Cloud Car Pilot as well as a handful of my favorite repacks. For anyone wondering, at least two of the three case assortments included a pair of the fresh-and-clean POTJ Scout Trooper fig. Overall, I have to say I’m thrilled with the OTC collection. A lot of people are whining about repacks, but these are beautiful repacks, for the most part. And, if our little hobby is to continue much beyond Ep III, we’re going to need some kids to get back into the line. The OTC should be just the ticket to do so, with lots of recognizable characters in great sculpts and outstanding packaging. No sign of the “Vintage” figs, if you’re wondering. But it was a really wee-hours toy run in Alpharetta early this morning.”

Looks like a figure run will have to play a prominent role in this weekend’s holiday festivities!

Stay on Target for Clearances!
July 2, 2004 | 6:11 PM EST | Keri

I have many clearance pricing to report from not only my local Target but also from YakReader Jay in Albany, NY:

“Have one better on the Target sales. I found 2 Riekans and 1 Obi Confrontation Ultra’s for $2.48!!!! Albany NY. Also they had the newly packed Yoda/Anakin Sabers, along with the Darth and Luke OTC sabers.”

On a run to my local Targets here in Dallas, I found some pleasant surprises in the Clearance area. First, they had the Darth Maul and Obi-Wan figure and glass sets for $6.98 which was 30% off. Also, all the Cartoon Network Clone Wars figures both 1st and 2nd waves were $5.98 which was 15% off. I also found 3 General Riekkan’s myself all at $2.48 which was 75% off. If you are looking for some bargains this holiday, I would definetly suggest a run to your local Target to fill in those gaps in your collection.
