Full Episode III DVD Specs Revealed
September 27, 2005 | 12:11 AM EST | Scott

The Official Site has finally posted the full list of features to be included on the upcoming Episode III DVD.

One newly-confirmed deleted scene found on Disc 2 will be Yoda’s arrival on Dagobah, which is a scene I would dearly love to see edited back into the body of the film in some future release, not to mention the “Birth of the Rebellion” sequence featuring a younger Mon Mothma.

Click on through for the full details on the goodies you can expect to uncover come November 1st!

Early Bird Kit Review
September 26, 2005 | 9:05 PM EST | Scott

Well, my Early Bird Kit finally arrived on my doorstep this afternoon so I thought I’d lay my impressions of it on you so you know what to expect. (Click on the thumbnails above for a larger view)

LUKE One of the two completely new sculpts in this set. I gotta tell ya, I’ve heard some whining about the quality of these figures but in my humble opinion, I really dig this Luke. Sure it lacks the uber-articulation found in the VOTC version, but all the detail is there, and I defy anyone to find a more accurate likeness of Mark Hamill on a 3-1/4″ figure to date, this one is spot on.

This is basically a nostalgia piece, a kind of “what if” as I like to think of it. Hasbro’s attempt to capture the primitive charm of the Vintage days with today’s modern techniques, right down to the telescoping lightsaber.

LEIA The second all-new sculpt. Not as dead-on in the likeness arena in terms of capturing Carrie Fisher’s face, but pretty darn close. There’s not a whole lot you can do with her given the limited articulation and static arms, but as-is, a pretty nice figure with some fine texture evident in the sculpt of her gown.

CHEWIE My favorite figure in this set, which also fulfills a minor wish of mine. This figure uses the VOTC Chewie body and Bowcaster, but replaces his ROTJ likeness head with an ANH head resulting in the best Chewbacca figure yet produced, no kidding.

R2-D2 Here’s where they cheaped out. This is the VOTC R2-D2 with the accessory door glued shut. The telescoping sensorscope is still present when you turn the head and to be fair, this is one of the more finely sculpted R2’s yet. Given the different treatments our favorite Astromech has received over the years, there’s really not much more to be done with him but I suppose I was hoping for SOMETHING different here.

I’ll give Hasbro credit for trying something cool. It was an attempt for collectors to relive (or for newbies to experience) the anticipation of receiving those first four Star Wars figures way back in 1978. But given the $30 price tag a lot of us paid on April 2nd, there should’ve been just a little more bang for the buck and the time it took for these to finally arrive.

My grade: C

UPDATE Early Bird Kits Arriving
September 25, 2005 | 11:18 AM EST | Scott

Yak reader Shawn B. reports that the Wal-Mart exclusive Early Bird kit has hit his doorstep yesterday.

“Got my early bird figures in the mail yesterday, so keep an out if you
ordered them! The box is about twice the size of the original vintage
early bird figure package, and the figures are in a clear plastic bag
similar to the Kenner baggie. However, there are no markings on the bags
and they are tape sealed. They come in a slotted white plastic (cheap)
tray along with the 12 pegs. ”

Looks like they may finally be starting to show up. Keep your eyes peeled folks!

New SW Books Released
September 25, 2005 | 10:53 AM EST | Scott

Two new books have recently been released that are well worth checking out, the first is the Star Wars Ultimate Visual Guide by Ryder Windham.

When I first heard about this a few months ago, I thought it was simply a compilation of the previously released Visual Dictionaries into one volume. Not so. Covering the width and breadth of the entire Star Wars saga, this book gives you a complete timeline of the Star Wars universe, a breakdown of all the major events, turning points and battles of all six films and dozens of full color images collected from the films, production stills and even from the comic books.

All told, this book reads like one gloriously illustrated Cliff’s Notes of Star Wars. Virtually no aspect is left untouched. From the films themselves, to behind-the-scenes trivia and even a mention of the Ewoks movies and the infamous Holiday Special as well as merchandise and the SW Phenomena. You Expanded Universe fans can rest easy as well, most of the major turning points of the EU are touched upon also, both pre-Episode I era (The Sith War) and Post ROTJ (Thrawn, NJO and Yuzhan Vong) I picked this book up a couple days ago and I’ve been thumbing through it constantly since, great fun and highly recommended.

The next book is Creating the Worlds of Star Wars: 365 Days by Lucasfilm’s own John Knoll.

Don’t let the title fool you, this isn’t a page-a-day calendar. It’s a wonderfully assembled book with beautiful widescreen-like panoramic shots of virtually every behind-the-scenes location you can think of. From Yavin IV to Hoth. From Coruscant to Mustafar, it’s all covered. Great on-the-set shots of all the major locations. There are even some great pics of locations cut from the final films (Shaak-Ti’s death, the Invisible Hand’s Fuel Chamber to name a couple). Each photo contans some form of background info and is well worth a look.

As an added bonus, the book comes with a CD-ROM containing over 100 QuickTime panoramic movies of the sets. Similar to what was on Hyperspace prior to the release of ROTS.

You can find both of these books in your local shops now or you can order by clicking the pics above.

Bounty Hunting Today: Customs for Charity # 2
September 25, 2005 | 10:42 AM EST | Keri

As mentioned in the last edition of Bounty Hunting for Charity auctions, some of the customizers from JediDefender.com are donating their one of a kind custom made Star Wars action figures to be auctioned on Ebay to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. 100% of the proceeds from these auctions are going to the American Red Cross to provide aid for those stricken by the disaster.

The custom auction for charity today features a Super Articulated Arc Trooper, this time with a Battlestar Galactica twist. This Clone has beautiful gold armor, with silver accents and a cloth kama (skirt). Last but not least to complete the Cylon Centurian look, the clone has the red “laser eye” in his visor. Not only is this a very unique custom, but a great spin on all the Clone variants we have seen.

Click on the link below to help out people who need it the most right now and get a wonderful custom Clone in the process.

Clone Army 3 Pack Update
September 21, 2005 | 9:14 AM EST | Jayson

Hasbro.com yesterday put rumors to rest on the actual number of Clone Trooper 3 packs variants. There are in fact 4, not 5. The fifth one was said to include one of each of the colored clones (Red/Brown, Green and Blue). So we can all scratch that one from our “Wants” list.

Star Wars Clone Troopers Evolutions Version 2
September 21, 2005 | 8:57 AM EST | Hfsolo

Hi all!

I just wanted to drop you a quick note on this item, as Hasbro sent us images which are available now for the viewing.

The second version of Clone Troopers Evolutions is up and ready for
preorder, either by the case or individually.

Star Wars Episode III Evolutions Pack 4: Clone Trooper, HS85705, $26.99http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HS85705&id=YA-509015975

Star Wars Episode III Evolutions Wave 2 Rev. 2 Case, HS85553B2, $104.99http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HS85553B2&id=YA-509015975

Each set is indeed different than the last one– the Sandtrooper is an absolutely filthy color with a grey shoulder pad. The Clone Trooper is now all white, and it still includes the pilot helmet– so without the yellow arm stripes, he looks like the Gentle Giant Bust and the 2002 Basic Saga Figure. Finally, the Revenge of the Sith Clone Trooper has been done up in ARC Trooper colors. Also notable in the image is an extra belt, which we had not heard of previously.

Also, if you are interested, we received a batch of our exclusive Clone Trooper army builder packs and they are all in stock. We’re also still taking preorders on our exclusive Astromechs and Wedge Antilles, all of which can be found here:
http://www.entertainmentearth.com/hitlist.asp?collect=Action+Figures%3A+Exclusive&id=YA-509015975

SIDE BAR: On a related note for all you variant hunters out there (myself included), there is a packaging variant for the Anakin to Vader Set. The most obvious change is the IV to VI designation that is printed under Vader’s figure. Also there are some the warning info placement changes. For images visit POTF2.com

KB Exclusive 9 Pack Now In Stores
September 19, 2005 | 9:04 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader Dan sent in this report:

Hi, I stopped in at my local KB Toys here in Naperville, IL and inquired about the exclusive 9-pack. The manager informed me that they are not allowed to put them out until the 23rd, and that he already had received 12 of them. He asked if I wanted to look at one, and pulled one out of the back to show me. The package is only about a foot and a half wide, two inches deep, and displays the figures quite nicely. He informed my KB is going to be running an ad next weekend including the 9 pack that is going to retail for 39.99, the same as listed on kbtoys.com. I imagine some stores are either putting these out early, or not following the same ad campaign, for some are already starting to show up.

Bonus DVD News
September 19, 2005 | 8:35 PM EST | Jayson

Spies from Rebelscum.com have posted news on a Wal-Mart exclusive Bonus DVD that will be available for Revenge of the Sith’s Nov. DVD release. The Bonus Disk has a featurette as told by R2-D2 and C-3PO about the story of Luke and Anakin Skywalker.

UPDATE Yak Reader Luther B. has a theory as to what might be included on the Bonus DVD…

“I don’t have an inside connection and this is just me putting 2 and 2 together, but I think I may know what the content is on the Wal-Mart bonus DVD.

About six months ago, Hasbro came out with a Videonow disc set that included three Star Wars segments hosted by Threepio and R2. One about Luke, one about Ani, and one about behind the scenes stuff. Plays on a proprietary player that is sold as a toy.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the bonus DVD didn’t contain two-thirds of the content from this Videonow disc set. The discs run about a half-hour long each, so putting two of the pieces on the bonus DVD would add up to around an hour, which matches with what we’ve heard about the bonus piece.”

Here’s a link for info on the set. Hasbro.com

Pride Displays Launches Official Website
September 16, 2005 | 10:22 PM EST | Scott

Pride Displays, the makers of that awesome vintage-style display stand, have launched their official website. Here is the official press release…

“Pride Displays are proud to announce the official release of the
outstanding ‘A New Hope’ action figure diorama (only 5,000 available)
aswell as the launch of their impressive new website. To celebrate the
launch of www.pridedisplays.com, Pride Displays are offering free
shipping in all territories:

UK: £29.99 inc FREE next day delivery.

EU: €54.90 inc FREE 3-5 day delivery.

US: $54.99 inc FREE 7-12 day delivery

Pride Displays are taking the collecting world by storm and fully
intend on making the ‘art of display’ something every collector will want to embrace.

Pride Displays director Samuel Johnson says; “the days of of figures
looking sad on a shelf will soon be a thing of the past”. With the imminent pre-order release of the awsome, ‘The Revenge Of The Sith’ diorama due at the end of the month aswell as the much anticipated, infamous ‘Trilogy Cabinet’ in the pipeline. Pride Displays are bringing a presence and sophistication to action figure collecting the likes of which have never been seen before.

Samuel also say’s ” the ‘A New Hope’ diorama has been the point of much
controversy, and I am sure will be the point of more to come. We do believe however that we are pioneering a revolution in the way that collectors not only display but also how they present their collections in their homes.

Apart from dioramas Pride Displays also manufacture their own unique brand of action figure stands. The ‘Dual™’ figure stand is one of the smartest, sleekest designed figure stands on the market. Just as the name sounds ‘Dual™’ encompasses the very essence of it’s use, to create scenes of battles & duels. The unique feature of the stand is that it has 2 pegs, one for vintage figures one for modern figures, saving you from having to own various different stands. Each Pride Displays Diorama comes with 50 ‘Dual™’ stands to enable you to create your favorite scenes.

Coming very soon from Pride Displays is ‘Air™’, the worlds first aerial action figure stand. ‘Air™’ will give collectors the ability to display figures in poses previously thought impossible to achieve.”

Sounds great! Click on through to check them out!

Sorry for the delay. I had a bit of an accident with a box cutter and my left index finger that is making it really difficult to type. The new QnA WILL be coming over the next couple of days. If you have any last minute questions to throw in send them to me HERE.

Windu Saber Auction Over – The Results
September 14, 2005 | 9:16 PM EST | Scott

You may recall that last week I started thisEbay Auction for my Master Replicas Mace Windu Lightsaber Replica. The purpose of which was to send all of the proceeds to the Red Cross to help those affected by Hurrican Katrina.

Well the auction is over and the grand total is $610!!! Every penny of which (minus ebay listing fees of course) will be going to the Red Cross.

I was equally excited about WHO won the auction.

His name is Robert and he is a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard (133rd Airlift Wing) and here is what he tells me…

“I have been supporting the air lift of supplies from Minnesota and Wisconsin to the southern states, as well as provided support for the evacuees that have made it this far north. As much as I would have liked to have been down south, my mission is up here and helping those that enter our state as well as assist our crews that fly support missions. We are just happy we can do our part to help those in need.”

How outstanding is that!? A tip of the ‘ol Stormtrooper helmet to Robert and especially the 133rd Airlift Wing in Minnesota for the great work in getting help to those who need it most.

Target Figure Cases
September 12, 2005 | 10:11 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader JT send in this 411 on the Target exclusive figure cases:

Just wanted to let you know yesterday found the new 5-pack Revenge of the Sith protective cases at Target. I bought all they had to store most of my collection. Got it hope and was quite disappointed. I never found the first wave of these cases but I thought from news they included backing inserts. Well these had no inserts. I also heard on the original wave that the cases were too small. Well these seemed to be too large. Once closed the clasps would not connect so the middle was always open which meant the figure moved around inside the case. I took out the exclusive Target trooper and compared cases. Where the Target trooper figure fit snuggly in its case this was not the case with the 5-packs. There was room on the sides and on the top. Second the clasps on the trooper case were more deep and grooved which made for a stronger clasp. Where as the 5-packs had more of rounded clasps and the sides never stayed together which caused the figure to be loose in the package. The only thing that was cool on the 5 packs was the protruding two bubbles on the front bottom which you could stand the case up. Other than that I kept one package for nostalgic reasons and took the other 8 back today. For 2 bucks a case I expected to firmly fit the figure not loosely fit it. Very disappointing. They should have just packaged a bunch of trooper cases and sold those not try to make something different. It looks like Hasbro screwed it again. I was wondering if others having the same difficulty and wondering now if the starwarshop.com cases, reblescum.com cases, and others fit the same way.

UPDATE:
Yak Reader Leland confirmed the report with this:
Just wanted to say that I found the cases to be larger than others as
well. I only got cases for my varient figs and the Holo Yoda, and
they “Bounce” around in the case.

More SW Auctions For Katrina Victims
September 8, 2005 | 11:41 PM EST | Scott

The SW fan generosity keeps rolling along.

The first auction is from Yak reader Jeremy Freed…
“Hi All,
Since I am a daily visitor to TFN, Yakface, and Rebelscum, I thought
I’d drop you a line about an auction I just listed. I know that Star Wars
fans are the best and are very caring and that many would like to
donate to the hurricane disaster relief. I’ve already seen a number of cool
auctions to benefit this cause and I have decided to join in.

You might remember earlier this year that a Star Wars Pepsi machine was
up for auction…I won it and have enjoyed it greatly but I now I’ve decided to sell it and thought that a portion of the money from the auction should go to the American Red Cross for their relief efforts. Unfortunately I can’t give 100%, but I’d like to split whatever I can get with the charity (my office is matching donations we make so I’m going to see if they can match this as well-if this is so I will update the item description tomorrow). I would greatly appreciate it if you could mention this auction on your sites so that some lucky Star Wars fan can get a really great rare item, and some not-so-lucky people can get the help they deserve and need.
Thanks for your help and support.

-Jeremy Freed”
You can check out Jeremy’s auction Right Here

And Yak reader Mike alerts us to THIS very cool auction…

“Just wanted to make you guys aware of a pretty cool auction on eBay right now.  Opie and Anthony, radio hosts on XM satellite radio, are auctioning off stuff they’ve acquired over the past year as a fundraiser for Hurrice Katrina victims.  The item of note for Star Wars fans is a ROTS digital press kit, autographed by Samuel Jackson. It’s already over $600 but thought some might be interested and it helps a good cause.”

Just a reminder, yours truly placed his own Sam J.-related artifact on Ebay for Katrina Victims, which has currently reached $405.00 wIth 5 days left in the bidding!! Huge thanks to everyone who has bid so far.

And thanks to Jeremy and Mike for passing along their news!

New Battle Packs And Jedi Force Figures At Wal-Mart
September 8, 2005 | 10:08 PM EST | Bill

Jedi Jones scored the recently released Rebels Battle Pack and Han Jedi Force figure at Wally. Here’s his report:

Hi, everyone. Han Solo got his revenge on the prequels this
morning at the Hazleton, PA Wal-Mart, where I found the Jedi Force Han Solo wave and the Rebel vs. Empire Battle Pack.

As you can see this Battle Pack captures the climactic scene from the
original Star Wars movie set in the Death Star hangar bay when Chewie
and Endor Han save Jedi Luke from an attack by Darth Vader and his
Stormtrooper henchmen…oh, wait. The layout of this pack reminds me of that old Empire Strikes Back children’s flipbook where each movie scene was chopped up into several sections and you could mix and match them into various ridiculous combinations.

Wal-Mart put out 2 Rebel vs. Empire, 2 Jedi vs. Separatists, and 4 Jedi vs. Sith. Battle Packs are packed 4 per case so I think they got the old case with just Jedi vs. Sith plus another case with 2 each of the newer ones.

Wal-Mart also put out a case of the new Jedi Force Han Solo as well as the repainted Chewbacca and Anakin and a reshipped C-3PO/R2-D2. I already found and purchased those a few days ago at the Hazleton Kmart.

Many more MPire wave 2 and Galactic Heroes also arrived at Wal-Mart
today.

Target Stealth Utapaian Clone And Fan Club Special Ops Clone The Same Or Separated At Birth?
September 8, 2005 | 10:06 PM EST | Bill

This just in from Yak Reader Janus:

Hi Everyone,

Here’s the response from the Star Wars Shop regarding their new
exclusive Clone:

“This figure is exclusive to StarWarsShop.com and cannot be found in
any retail stores. The price includes the custom, StarWarsShop.com
branded collector star case, as well. In addition, due to the limited
production run, the cost of the figure to us is much greater than a
mass produced product, hence the higher retail price.

Yes, Target will be selling a different, black and white clone trooper figure”.

Unleashed Final Wave Not Cancelled After All?
September 7, 2005 | 11:56 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader Aleks sent this to Hasbro’s customer service department:

Is it true? There is web rumor that the line has been cancelled even before the han, Chewbacca, mustafar clone trooper wave. What are you thinking? Collectors love the larger unleashed line. All you have to do is go to a star wars web site and look at polls that have been done regarding this issue. They reflect collectors being disappointed in the change and even stating that they are not interested in buying the new 2 inch line. I know that the smaller line will take up less shelf space, but what about the detail that we love in the larger line??
I was not happy with the new line, but I had accepted it. I also hoped that someone at Hasbro was listening to the fans and monitoring the web sites and the polls. I was looking forward to one last wave of the Unleashed characters, and now even that may have been taken from us.

Thank you for listening,
A disappointed collector

Here’s the response he received:

“Thank you for contacting Hasbro, Inc. We appreciate your interest.
There are no plans at this time to discontinue that product line.
We will share your interest with the appropriate personnel. Thanks again for your interest.”

Very interesting, especially in light of the fact that Hasbro’s Star Wars team has stated publically that the line was to be put on hiatus after this “upcoming” wave.

Millennium Falcon + Mac Mini?
September 6, 2005 | 8:59 AM EST | Mark B

Ok, I’ve seen several people build PCs using the Hasbro Millennium Falcon as a case, but this one takes the cake…. MACMOD has a great setup using a Galactic Heroes Millennium Falcon as a case for a Mac Mini. Don’t know what a Mac Mini is? Imagine a complete computer (without the viruses, spyware, etc of a Windows computer) the size of a stack of 4 CD cases! These people modified their Falcon to hold the computer – complete with an iSight webcam in the cockpit and a USB port (to load their iPod Shuffle) right up front. What a great idea!

LucasArts Debuts New Games Down Under
September 5, 2005 | 10:22 PM EST | Bill

Friday 2nd Sept 2005. In a glorious day on Sydney Harbour Electronic Arts held their annual EA Imagine event to showcase their games line up for the 2005/06 season, and it wouldn’t be a true gaming event if we didn’t see at least one Lucasarts product. In fact the Lucasarts team were able to preview two very different but amazing upcoming titles. Head into www.Mousedroid.com EA Imagine 2005 report for all the photos and gossip on Star Wars Battlefront II and Star Wars: Empire at War. To quote an old friend, these titles looks nothing short of “Impressive”. Also of note is that Lucasarts has re-launched their Battlefront II site (Flash required) along with a new company logo.

TRU Exclusive Battle of Hoth Now In Stores
September 5, 2005 | 10:20 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader MachoFrijol sent in this report:

Hey, wanted to let you know that I just found the Assault of Hoth Battle Pack exclusive to Toys “R” Us. They are ringing up at $24.99, kind of steep but I am loving these battle packs. Looks like this one comes with the General Veers that came with the old POTF AT-AT Walker and 2 POTF snowtroopers with a little more of dirt stain on them. The third snowtrooper is the Saga version and the Probe Droid is the POTF deluxe figure with some dirt on it as well. Just a little head’s up.
