First, thank you for sending in your votes! In total, we received top 10 lists from 20 different Star Wars fansites from around the web. We have weighted all of the submissions, and there were many great suggestions with a great deal of alignment on the most popular choices. The top 20 are below. Also, here are some interesting statistics: There were 67 individual characters submitted. The six top characters were also the ones receiving the votes from the most sites.Of the actual top 20 vote-getters, only three were rulled ineligible because these figures were already planned to come out in their original form or will be updated in 2008. Those figures are Durge, the EU Spacetrooper, and Amanin alien. (Hmmm…let the speculation begin…)

However, there has been a 1-week delay while we redo our Hasbro polling software to handle multiple votes. Currently, our polling software allows fans to vote for only one selection from any given list. Instead, we are redoing the software to allow fans to vote for up to 5 figures. As a result, we are hoping (it may not be exact) that the poll will start 1 week from today. We’ll send out a notification when it does begin so you can let your viewers know. The poll will run for two weeks, so everyone will still have plenty of time to vote. Please let your fans know that we will go live next week.

He’s Back! He’s Bad! He’s one per case!!! He’s fan’s choice #1 in the Saga Legends series– that’s right it’s the Dark Trooper in Saga Legends wave 3. Now I did say something about a Gold rush. Well he has a fancy gold foil banner over the left side of the bubble that says fan’s choice #1, but that’s not all. The Expanded Universe coin which is packed with the Dark Trooper is also GOLD, just like the UGH set– making the full set of gold coins 13, not 12. Good hunting, err cursing, depending on your viewpoint.

More Comic Pack Variants

EntertainmentEarth has received word that there will be 3 more intentional comic pack variant coming in Nov. in Wave 5 rev. 1 cases. They are the Han/Chewie, Tarkin/Stormtrooper and Luke/R2-D2 packs – and the difference is that the Han, Luke and Stormtrooper will be packed without the blue “comic shading” effect – that’s right clean Stormtrooper armor.

But while it does say there will be no blue paint apps, it says nothing about the red accents on the helmet. So we will have to wait a bit longer for further details. STAY TUNED.

In addition they recount what little Star Wars was actually at the convention, and little is right as Arnie drooled over some of Wizards of the Coast’s new Star Wars Miniatures. We also discuss the recent widespread toy recall, look at the newest Star Wars items being found in the stores, and recall a more innocent time, 2004, when the first Star Wars Original Trilogy DVDs were released.

Toyguide Update: #28 Darth Vader (McQuarrie Concept)

The Toyguide updates tonight with the final figure from Wave 4 and happens to be the latest McQuarrie concept figure – Darth Vader. Based on Ralph McQuarrie’s signature duel painting, this version of Vader differs slightly from his on screen visage as he includes a scalloped cape similar to Batman, blaster with thigh holster and 2 interchangeable helmets pulled right from McQuarrie’s drawings. About the only problem with this figure is the slash-joint elbows that are prone to popping apart when posing. Aside from that this is one great figure!

A Special Thanks

We’d like to send out a special thank you to Yakface reader Erik Chavez, who recently completed service in the United States military.

Erik joined the U.S. Army in 2002 and was an infantryman in the 10th Mountain Division for 5 years.

He completed Airborne School, and was a Team Leader, Rifleman, Saw Gunner, Grenadier, Javaline Gunner, Sniper and Heavy Weapons Gunner, and served two combat tours in Afghanistan in 2003, 2004 & 2006, when he came back home to take care of his mom, who is fighting cancer for the third time.

Erik also worked in recruiting for a year, and completed his service with the military in July 2007.

Many of you may know Erik better as forum member Jedistyle, who is a regular contributor and active member in the customizing community. For all the fun we have in this hobby, sometimes many of us may take for granted the service others are doing to keep our country safe.

This all-new figure’s a hefty sucker and has the added benefit of having removable accessories to add to the variety of Jabba’s Palace or Desert Skiff. The Toyguide updates today with the addition of CZ-4. Another droid fans have been clamoring has finally reach our shelves. This CZ Unit was briefly shown in few scenes of Return of the Jedi but the same type of droid (CZ-3) was also seen in the alleys of Mos Eisley and in the bowels of the Jawa’s Sandcrawer. So, looks like adding 3 or 4 of these my collection might be in order ; P

The Toyguide updates today with the addition of Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight)This latest version brings us one step closer to having the ultimate Jedi Luke. It features soft goods Jedi tabard, a lightsaber with separate hilt (that can be tucked into his belt) and a bone accessory. About the only thing missing from this figure is a Jedi cloak, palace henchman blaster and maybe an extra gloved hand to switch out for his battle damaged one.

Toyguide Update: #24 Animated Debut: Boba Fett

The Toyguide updates today with the addition of the Animated Debut: Boba Fett.This kitbashed VOTC version of “The Fett Man” is based upon his first appearance which was in the Star Wars Holiday Special way back in 1978 – 2 years before he graced the screen in ESB. Here he is armed with his signature jetpack, but also includes a new holster, blaster pistol and a staff stylized right from the cartoon. Also, be on the lookout for the gold foil and coined UGH version of this figure in later Wave 4 case revisions.

This is the third and final Mark Hamill Signature in the set. You have the Star Wars: A New Hope Signature and the Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Signature now complete the set with the Star Wars: Return of The Jedi Signature Lightsaber.

The lightsaber Luke Skywalker wields in the Return of the Jedi has a long and complicated history. The hilt worn by actor Mark Hamill, in most of the scenes in the movie where the lightsaber is not ignited, was in fact an old Obi-Wan Kenobi “stunt” lightsaber from A New Hope. The blade was cut off and it featured a longer lever on the center band, a conical knob on the rear above the pommel, and a D-ring attached the lightsaber to a belt clip. Cast in aluminum from a milled wooden master, this lightsaber features uneven heat sink fins which we have recreated in the interest of accuracy.

For the fighting scenes, a newly machined, but more simplified look-alike version of the above lightsaber was created with a removable blade. A cleaned up version of this lightsaber was used for the close-up insert shot when Darth Vader comments on Luke constructing a new lightsaber. This became known as the “hero” version of the prop because it was featured so prominently in a close-up. The “Version Two” of the prop was altered in post-production to look more like the “hero” lightsaber, possibly in interest of continuity.

Master Replicas engineers modeled this faithful replica directly from measurements taken from the surviving prop, and recreated the look from the movie with the help of extensive photographic reference materials supplied from the Lucasfilm Ltd. Archives.

A long time fan request finally gets his day, and like his drinking buddy M’iiyoom, includes an arched section of the bar as well. Plus, he gets that added bonus of being able to “belly up” to the bar and actually sit on the stool thanks to a pliable skirt and articulated knees.

Toyguide Update: #22 M’iiyoom Onith

After a long drought of not acquiring any new product, the Toyguide updates tonight with the addition of M’iiyoom Onith: the female H’nemthe from A New Hope. Once again we are treated to an all new, never before released, blink and you’ll miss cantina character. Plus, after many requests, we are finally able to start the completion of the Chalmun’s Cantina as she includes a half of the arched section of the bar. One slight problem with this figure is the restrictive “skirt” that prevents M’llyoom from sitting at said bar, even with articulated knees.

Most Star Wars fans look back at 2002 and think of Attack of the Clones. Some think first of Star Wars Celebration 2, the first Star Wars con held in Indianapolis, IN. Marjorie and Arnie think about their Star Wars Wedding, held four days before the opening of Attack of the Clones, and the purchases that ensued. They recall this heady time of fandom by looking at a new era of collecting that was ushered in along with a million soldiers all wearing Temura Morrison’s face.

Also this week we catch up on some long overdue voice mails, give a store report, and debate the worth, or lack thereof, of the 2007 Fan Club Membership Kit.

Finally we have Nathan P. Butler returning to catch us up on what’s happening in Star Wars books and comics for July and August, 2007.

Toyguide Update: Saga Legends Sandtrooper

After a long drought of not acquiring any new product, the Toyguide updates today with the addition of the Sandtrooper from wave 2 of the Saga Legends line. This figure is an uber-dirty repaint of the #037 Sandtrooper released in the TSC line and rather than the black pauldron, it has the white/gray pauldron, technically giving him the rank of “Sergeant”. Also, this figure includes the EIV movie coin for those (myself included) who are obsessed with completing their coin albums. Look for alternate body and decos of this figure to ship in later case revisions.
