Toyguide Update: Saga Legends Clone Commander

The Toyguide updates today with the addition of the Saga LegendsClone Commander. As we learned from our recent QnA with Hasbro, this version is actually a factory produced error as it includes the Sandtrooper rifle from the Evolution set rather than the correct Clone Trooper rifle. Hasbro states that there will be a running charge to correct this so be on the look out for both styles if you are so inclined. As for the figure, it is also a repack from the ROTS Evolutions Set (version 2). The gray “Coruscant” motif happens to be my favorite of all the E3 decos as it isn’t quite as flashy as the other battalion styles and I think it more closely bridges the gap between the PT and OT troopers. But enough with the chit-chat.

Toyguide Update: Disney Cantina Band Members

The Toyguide updates today with the addition of the Disney World ExclusiveCantina Band Members. Available during Star Wars Weekends in June 2007, these figures are essentially repacks of the Wal-Mart Exclusive Commemorative Tin Figures, but the stinger here is that each band member includes an electronic base that lights up and plays music from the Cantina. The 5 bases also interlock forming one arched band platform. These retailed for about $15 each and the only ways to get them all was to buy them directly at SW Weekends, find a friend that would do it for you or call an place and order for an entire case (10 figures in all – 2 of each flavor).

However, even though they were “cloned”, each still maintained a spark of independent and creative thinking, making them far better suited than droids to handle unexpected turns of warfare. Eventually color designations came to signify individual units, which often became more customized with mission specific gear and armor modifications.
Clone Commander Gree Helmet Scaled Replica
When the city of Kachirho, on the Wookiee planet of Kashyyyk, falls under siege from the separatist droid forces, General Yoda leads the 41 elite corps of Clone Troopers to aid the besieged Wookiees.
This lush and tropical world requires special equipment and thus this special unit of Clone Troopers are outfitted with distinctive, camouflaged armor to better blend with the surroundings. Leading Yoda’s forces is Clone Commander Gree, designation 1004.
Commander Gree receives special instructions to enact order 66 when Chancellor Palaptine seizes power and declares himself emperor. He outlaws the Jedi, declaring them the enemy of the new galactic empire. With surprising agility, the aged Jedi master flips up and backwards, out of the line of fire, decapitating Commander Gree with one quick swipe of his lightsaber.

When Anakin Skywalker succumbed to the dark side of the force, his new sith master, Chancellor Palpatine, the self-appointed emperor of the new galactic empire, assigned to him an elite unit of Clone Troopers known as Special Ops or the 501st Legion. Now known as Darth Vader, upon the enactment of order 66, his first assignment was to destroy the younglings and the Jedi temple .
Their distinctive blue-marked armor distinguished them apart from the other ranks. Their skillful marksmanship and coordinated team maneuvers allowed them to trap and mercilessly gun down the Jedi in the temple.

Toyguide Update: Concept Obi-Wan & Yoda

The Toyguide updates press on with the addition of the SDCC and HasbroToyShop Exclusive Obi-Wan & Yoda McQuarrie Concept Figure Two-Pack. It’s hard to deny that figures like these are the reason why the McQuarrie subset line is so successful. The Obi-Wan figure really reflects the Japanese/Samauri culture which upon the Jedi themselves were based and about the only complaint I have about this figure is the non-articulated knees. The Yoda figure’s concept design is fairly close to the “classic” Yoda we remember from the film only he does have a slight garden gnome or troll aura about him. This set was initially only available to attendees of Comic-Con ’07, but like many convention “exclusives” before them, they made their way online through HasbroToyShop (currently out of stock).

Toyguide Update: Concept General Grievous

The Toyguide updates today with the addition of the Concept General Grievous. Based on artist Warren Fu’s concept artwork, this early version of Grievous differs slightly from his on screen appearance with more humanoid legs and more robotic rather than cyborg look. Rykrof Enloe Photonovel Series Update

Due to time restraints with starting a new job, working on my basement, having a new youngling, and working on styrene set construction for some new locations in the Rykrof Enloe photonovel series, the series still has many chapters before the conclusion of Rykrof’s adventures in the Clone Wars… but is currently on hold.
Hopefully we will have a preview or two of Chapter 21 sometime in October, but in the mean time, now could be a good time to get caught up on CHAPTER 19 – TRIBULATION and CHAPTER 20 – FINAL HOUR.

while you’re filling the pantry and the fridge, you may want to check the toy aisle at your local Albertson’s. If you’re not aware, Albertsons has entered into an agreement with TRU in the last few years to provide their toy stock. While the stock on the toy aisle at grocery is frequnently less than fresh, that does not seem to be the case right now. If you’re looking for some of the 30th Anniversary basic figures or the 30th Anniversary Legecy collection, it may be worth you while. I’ve observed several stores with multiple pegs of army builders in both lines. Good Hunting!

Legacy of the Force Inferno Review

Last week, the latest chapter of Del Rey’s Legacy of the Force series hit the racks. Given it’s recent release, I’ll try to stay as spoiler free while providing insights into Inferno’s flavor as possible, however this review does contain spoilers if you haven’t read previous Legacy of the Force Novels.
Troy Denning’s Inferno continues the strong writing and plot lines we’ve seen throughout the Legacy of the Force Series, and once again his writing style meshes so well with Aaron Allston and Kathy Traviss’ styles, that the transition from one author’s work to another is practically seamless. Inferno opens on the Galactic Alliance’s State Funeral for Mara Jade Skywalker. While most of the main characters from the Legacy series appear, Inferno focuses on Jason, (AKA Darth Cadeus), Ben Skywalker, and Luke Skywalker. Rest ssurred Han, Leia, Jaina, Zekk, Jagged Fel, and Alemam not to mention Tenel Ka all get their share of ink as well. However the focus of Inferno is really on Jason’s evolution into, and acceptance of his role as a Sith Lord. Galactic politics have begun to take a back seat to the Cadeus’ plotting and attempts to get the galaxy firmly in his grasp, so much so that his co-rules of the Alliance appears in only one section of the novel, for a handfull of pages.
While we see old friends again, including R2– with specific mention of an upgrade to his systems, Denning also pulls threads which have been left hanging throughout the Expanded Universe. Many questions are answered, some with still more questions about how the dark side took control of the hive during the galaxy far far away’s last crisis before Legacy. Lingering affects from the galaxy’s exposure to the Yuzzan Vong also take the plots in directions which are a refershing departure from the classic Star Wars Universe. One of those casts doubt over much of what many of us have come to believe to be set in stone about the way of the Sith and its place in the universe from before Palpatine rose to the throne up through the time of Legacy.

To some it may seem that six years since the terrorist attacks on the United States of America was a long time ago and is now a thing of the past. It may seem a whole lot easier to put that horrible day behind us, but we should all remember that even today, our country and the entire world still faces the danger of future attacks.
We ask that you please take a moment out of your time to remember all the innocent people that lost their life six years ago today. And don’t forget to say a prayer for the Iraqi people who have died in this conflict, for the future of their country, for all the men and women in uniform who are out in the Middle East now risking everything so that we may live in peace, and so that our children will not have to fight this war years from now.
Please continue to remember that in the difficult times ahead, and God Bless.

In Warren Fu’s original artwork, the droid commander exhibits a more humanoid form than what we see in Revenge of the Sith — his cold, calculating efficiency, however, is still readily apparent in the smooth metal casing and skull-like head. It has been a very big week for Star Wars. First, during the last weekend in August there was the Toronto Fan Expo with Jake Lloyd, Daniel Logan, and Temura Morrison, plus others, all attending. Star Wars Action News staff member Jason was there and brings us his first-hand report of his first experience going north of the border. Then during Labor Day weekend, Marjorie and Arnie went south to Georgia for the much hyped DragonCon, with some Star Wars guests, authors, and body paint. This was their first trip to DragonCon, and if you were thinking of going they let you know what to expect.

Walt Disney Studios to broadcast “Clone Wars” Series?

DarkHorizons.com reports that Walt Disney Studios is heavily campaigning to get broadcast rights for George Lucas’ much anticipated CG-animated series “Clone Wars” reports Animation Magazine.
The studio is competing with Fox and HBO who are also rumored to be interested in picking up broadcast rights. Each episode will be 22-minutes long and will follow the general tone of the original 1977 “Star Wars” with an action focus and lighter tone.
Lucas has previously said that he wants to produce at least 100 episodes of the show which is expected to be ready for broadcast by the fall of 2008. The live-action series in the works won’t begin airing until Fall 2009 at the earliest.
