Toyguide Update: TLC No. 39 Emperor Palpatine
April 22, 2009 | 12:30 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with the addition of next figure in the second Legacy Collection wave for 2009: Emperor Palpatine.

As a nod to the monkey-face Emperor from the original theatrical release, this latest version is a slight modification of the super articulated Evolution figure featuring ghoulish facial deco, modified Sith robe and a new plastic hood that really makes this figure shine Also included are his signature gnarled cane and lightsaber. The Droid Factory “Build A Droid” concept continues on with this figure as it includes the torso of protocol droid U-3PO from A New Hope.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 38 Luke Skywalker
April 22, 2009 | 10:07 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of first figure in the second Legacy Collection wave for 2009: Luke Skywalker.

After his fateful duel with Darth Vader and his rescue from Bespin, Luke Skywalker recovers on board the Rebel Alliance’s medical frigate where he receives his new cybernetic hand. This figure is a kit bashed creation that utilizes most of the parts from the VOTC Luke, the new parts consisting of new shins and feet, a new head sculpt* and the cybernetic right forearm. The flesh portions of this figure are molded in a tan plastic versus the pinkish color as the VOTC figure had which greatly improves the overall look of this sculpt. He features a removable medical gown, lightsaber and communicator. The Droid Factory “Build A Droid” concept continues on with this figure as it includes the head of protocol droid U-3PO from A New Hope.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

*Note to customizers: The head on this Luke swaps effortlessly with the current VOTC/Droidfactory/Legends X-Wing Pilot Luke if the existing head doesn’t “do it” for you. The helmet fits over this new head as well.

Toyguide Update: TCW No. 27 Kit Fisto
April 22, 2009 | 12:08 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of last figure in the second Clone Wars wave for 2009. Presenting Kit Fisto.

Kit Fisto, the Nautolan Jedi we were first introduced to during the Battle of Geonosis, returns in the Clone Wars series in the “Lair of General Grievous” episode. When I saw this episode I was hoping for a great action figure version, but he fails on a few important areas. First off, on my figure, one leg is longer than the other which makes for a heck of a time getting him to stand especially when the jet pack is attached. Secondly the lack of leg articulation really hampers any type of dynamic action posing making for a rather statuesque pose, when you can get him to stand of course. On the flipside, he does have decent arm articulation and the head sculpt is very well done and captures his wry smile nicely. Surprisingly, he fits in both the Delta 7 and Delta 7B “Clone Wars” style Jedi Starfighters pretty well.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TCW No. 26 Clone Trooper (41st Elite Corps)
April 21, 2009 | 11:28 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of next figure in the second Clone Wars wave for 2009. Presenting the 41st Elite Corps Clone Trooper as they appeared in the episodes “Bombad Jedi” and “Cloak of Darkness”.

Members of the 41st Elite Corps are led by Clone Commander Gree and Jedi General Luminara Unduli and are specially equipped for jungle warfare on worlds like Rodia and Kashyyyk. This figure is a repaint of the 212th Attack Battalion Clone Trooper and features a green deco. He includes the standard DC-17 blaster and a very cool firing missile launcher/gatling gun. I’ll definitely be adding a few more of these to the collection – the forthcoming Gree figure will need troops to lead after all.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TCW No. 25 Rocket Battle Droid
April 21, 2009 | 11:03 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of next figure in the second Clone Wars wave for 2009. Presenting the Rocket Battle Droid as they appeared in the episode “Rising Malevolence”.

These special battle droids specialize in working in the vacuum of space and are equipped with a maneuvering jet pack, a external lamp mounted on the droid’s head as well as having a special cutting torch outfitted to their arms for boarding captured ships and escape pods. The figure itself is a retooled version of the standard battle droid this time featuring a removable rocket pack and unique arm and head sculpts. He includes the standard issue battle droid blaster and a firing “boarding claw” weapon taking design cues from the pod hunters from the aforementioned episode. A decent figure overall but you’ll want to get him out of the package right away to curb any further warping the legs tend to have from being packed in the bubble too long.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TCW No. 24 Jar Jar Binks
April 21, 2009 | 1:51 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of first figure in the second Clone Wars wave for 2009. Presenting Jar Jar Binks as he appeared in the episode “Bombad Jedi”.

It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen a Jar Jar figure at retail, which is a good thing to some collectors, but this all new version is the best thus far. Jar Jar, while limited in leg articulation, has a lot of poseability elsewhere with ball joint shoulders, elbows, torso and neck. He also has a ball socket head and ankles (note the removable feet) and swivel forearms. The only included accessory (aside from the removable neck scarf) is the Jedi robe which features a wire rimmed neck. The only real issue with the figure is that due to his large ears, posing of the hood over the head can be a little awkward, but overall another excellent release for this popular line.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Clone Wars Tri-Lingual Figures Now at TRU
April 16, 2009 | 1:27 PM EST | Jayson

Looks like K-Mart isn’t the only retailer receiving the first 8 Clone Wars tri-lingual figures as I found several cases of these figure hanging from the pegs at my local Toys R Us.

Again, the figures themselves are the same as their English only counterparts*, but these all share an identical multi-language (English, French and Spanish) card back and unique bubble insert. Within the packaging, you’ll find a tri-lingual text insert containing the figure’s character description and a foldout 30th Anniversary product guide.

*To clarify, the Rex and Clone Trooper are of the battle-damaged/dirty deco variety and Rex has the dark blue flashes on his armor versus the newer light blue coloration.

RiffTrax presents: The Empire Strikes Back
April 15, 2009 | 9:41 AM EST | Jayson

Your favorite sand-phobic, midichlorian-rich super villain is back! And this time his capes are even more fabulous, his thigh-high Uggs resplendent like never before, and his burnt chicken head cloaked in the shiniest plastic helmet yet! And if that wasn’t enough, Mike, Kevin and Bill are pleased to be joined by Darth Vader’s bellicose but lovable brother Chad! Yes, the movie that gave us one of cinema’s most startling revelations, and perhaps the most memorable silver screen quote ever (“I thought that hairy beast would be the end of me”) gets the RiffTrax treatment.

Lots of laughs. Lots of Chad Vader. And no pod racing.

This RiffTrax uses the Special Edition version of the film. If you have it on DVD, you have the right version.

Brought to you by the creators of Mystery Science Theater 3000

Episode 190: Ha$$$$$bro
April 14, 2009 | 1:47 PM EST | Jayson

Perhaps we are getting old when we have to be told by Hasbro employees that “the value of a dollar isn’t what it used to be” but that doesn’t make the increasing cost of Hasbro Star Wars toys any easier for collectors’ pocket books. With 3.75″ figures ranging from $8 to $13 at retail, Ugnaughts downsized from two per pack to one per pack, and vehicle rereleases costing nearly double what they used to, collectors dollars are getting stretched thinner and thinner, and in this economy it is not what collectors need. We tackle this hard issue this week on Star Wars Action News, looking at some new Toys R Us exclusive repacks that aren’t the value of the original packs, and with a Hasbro Q&A asking about cost, quality of figures, and quantity of figures.

We also look at some other sites’ Hasbro Q&As where information is revealed about Hasbro’s collector market, and the fact that the new packaging will see the first change in 3.75″ figure card sizes in Star Wars’ 32 year history.

With a look at the latest Star Wars Minis expansion, Imperial Entanglements, and a vintage review of 4-LOM (Or is it Zuckuss?) it’s all on this week’s Star Wars Action News!

UPDATE: “Torrent Company” Jet Pack Troopers
April 14, 2009 | 10:55 AM EST | Jayson

As rumored by Rebelscum a couple weeks ago, EntertainmentEarth has listed a new multi-pack called “Clone Wars Clone Troopers with Jet Packs”. The description reads:

“Clone Troopers are armed to the teeth, and now they can fly too! This set of Clone Trooper action figures includes jet packs which make your battles all the more fun!”

– Fly big with jetpacks!
– Fly Clones into battle!
– Just like in The Clone Wars.
– Anakin figure included.

My guess is this will be a “Torrent Company” themed pack pulled from the Clone Wars movie’s Battle of Christophsis with jetpack versions of Captain Rex, a clone trooper or two and obviously Anakin Skywalker.

Stay tuned for more details as they’re made available.

UPDATE: Looks like I way over judged the coolness of this set as it looks to resemble nothing from from the film or the series thus far. JediInsider has posted a preview of a lone clone trooper with a winged jetpack.
