Toyguide Update: Remote Control R2-Q5
May 31, 2009 | 8:33 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates today with the addition of last of the newest exclusives currently appearing on Target’s pegs – the Remote Control R2-Q5.

For those who have the previous releases, R2-Q5 is on the same frequency/band as R5-X2 (Band 2) so you could theoretically control both droids at the same time with one remote. Also of note, each of the current droids include their own unique instruction sheet and the background in the packaging is scene specific to each character.

Variation hunters/completists take note. This is NOT a straight repack of the previous release. This version has different copyright info on the bottom of the feet and the battery access door for the droid and remote is embossed with a unique part number that was not present on the previous release.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Clone Wars Season One DVD
May 31, 2009 | 7:00 PM EST | Jayson

Yakface Forum Newsie “Darth_Sidious” sends word that while looking for more details regarding the Clone Wars Season 1 release, he stumbled upon an image of the keepcase/packaging for this set onstoreofeast.com. Although what is shown here is the overseas boxed art/language packaging, I imagine the domestic release with follow in the same style. Look for the 8 disc set at your favorite retailer later this year.

New Saga Legends Mockups
May 31, 2009 | 2:17 PM EST | Jayson

Looks like a couple new Saga Legends Mockups have turned up via auctions on eBay. Take the links for view of Bespin Han Solo (minus his Jacket) and Chewbacca which looks to be the Legacy version with a breathing mask.

As with all things that show up before they’re “officially” confirmed, the final products may vary (hopefully).

Thanks to Yakface Forum Newsie “Eopie Herder” for the tipage.

That’s No Moon…
May 30, 2009 | 10:09 PM EST | Niktom

It’s just a super laser!

While it’s not the Death Star… it sure shares some similarities.

“Equipment connected to a house-sized sphere can focus 192 laser beams on a small point, generating temperatures and pressures that exist at cores of stars or giant planets. ”

May 29, 2009 | 2:43 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates today with the addition of one of the newest exclusives currently appearing on Target’s pegs – the Remote Control R5-D4.

For those who have the previous releases, R5-D4 is on the same frequency/band as R4-P17 (Band 3) so you could theoretically control 2 droids at the same time with one remote. Also of note, each of the current droids include their own unique instruction sheet and the background in the packaging is scene specific to each character.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

To be honest, I do not know what these will go for, so please take a look at the pictures and let me know if you are interested in any of them. They are all very nice with awesome paint jobs.

You can email me if you are interested and let me know what you would be willing to pay. Thank you for taking the time to read this…

May 28, 2009 | 4:41 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates today with the addition of one of the newest exclusives currently appearing on Target’s pegs – the Remote Control R2-D2. Previously only available throughStarWarsShop.com as an imported item, this droid is controlled by a mini 2-button lightsaber remote that will move him forward or turn him on command while his dome rotates as he rolls, beeps and whistles. These droids are scaled comparably to the Hasbro’s standard astromech figures so he’ll fit right it with your collection. When the droid is not in use, you can store all four batteries in a handycompartment inside the remote.

Variation hunters/completists take note. This is NOT a straight repack of the ROTS release. This version has different copyright info on the bottom of the feet and the battery access door for R2 and his remote is embossed with a unique part number that was not present on the previous release.

Also of note, each of the current droids include their own unique instruction sheet and the background of the packaging is scene specific to each character.

May 26, 2009 | 7:44 PM EST | Justin2

For all you Cad Bane fans out there, forumite darth_sidious writes in with the following news:

I was searching Bigbadtoystore.com, and came across a listing for 3″ CW Titanium 2009 Wave 06 (which is actually wave 5), and saw a ship listed only as ‘Xanadu Blood’, after some searching online, I was able to find out that this is actually the name of Cad Bane’s fighter, and it will appear in the next season of the Clone Wars cartoon. While Bigbadtoystore.com didnt have any images, I did some digging on Ebay and found a dealer in Asia that had prototypes!

Stay on Target
May 24, 2009 | 1:26 AM EST | Justin2

Reports continue to slowly trickle in from around the U.S. that the Legacy Rancor and Remote Control Astromechs are showing up in Target stores.

Among the lucky collectors so far to pick these up is forum member JediJman, who writes in with the following news:

“I managed to track down all four of the RC Droids at Target this morning. R5-X2, R2-D2, R2-Q5, and R5-D4. Very cool, but a little tough to stomach at $16.99 each. I did not see pegs for them on the shelf, but you can use DPCI 087-06-0106 if they are in the back room. I also snagged a Rancor with Luke while I was there (087-06-2066).”

Head on over to the forums for a closer look of his find.

Toyguide Update: TCW Magnaguard Fighter
May 22, 2009 | 10:07 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates today highlighting the latest release in the Clone Wars mid-sized vehicle assortment with the Magnaguard Fighter.

Originally developed for use on Utapau in Revenge of the Sith, these sleek and yet aggressive fighters were ultimately relegated to the cutting room floor only to be recycled years later for the new Clone Wars Animated Series. Hasbro again delivers here in terms of design and scale and overall playability. They went that extra mile and designed this fighter to work with both the animated and “realistic” sculpt Magnaguards with the added benefit of incorporating handy electrostaff storage compartments in each wing. The Magnaguard Fighter features adjustable thrusters, 3 retractable landing gears, 2 firing missiles and opening cockpit. If you’re a fan of the live action films and/or the animated series, I highly recommend picking this up and if it hasn’t, it should start hitting your local shelves any day now.

Head to the toyguide to see if this vehicle is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TCW Vulture Droid
May 21, 2009 | 1:55 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates today highlighting the latest release in the Clone Wars mid-sized vehicle assortment with the Vulture Droid.

After being “treated” to several repaints thus far in the Clone Wars vehicle line, we finally get an all new item to add to our collections. Done up in the ROTS/CW blue deco, all previous versions are now officially obsolete as they pale in comparison to this beast. Not only is it twice the size of the Episode I and ROTS versions, the new “Super” Vulture Droid is capable of being transformed into its walking mode. When converted, it features four independently posable legs and a pop up head which is activated by the push of a button on the bottom. In fighter mode, it features two launching missiles and the wings can be positioned into an attack configuration as shown in Revenge of the Sith. It also has four additional missiles that are stowed conveniently in the tip of each wing. This awesome fighter is sure to see several more releases in the coming years in various paint schemes and packaging changes and each one will be well worth picking up.

Head to the toyguide to see if this vehicle is worth adding to your collection.

UPDATE 2: That’s No Moon! It’s a Space Station
May 20, 2009 | 3:11 PM EST | Jayson

For those clinging to hope that a Death Star playset may someday come to fruition, yesterday forumite Delaton shared with us an image that appears to be a mockup.

Also, props to our friends at Jedidefender who had apparently been waiting for the ‘right moment’ to leak this, what better timing with Comic Con right around the corner?

Please keep in mind though that this could very well be something that never got past the drawing board and will never make it to production.

UPDATE: Adam May over at Galactic Hunter as contributed to this mystery as well and has postedthat this Death Star “Playset” might actually be for the Galactic Heroes line as an exclusive through Target for the holiday season.

UPDATE 2: Always in motion is the future. The debate is still open as to the destiny of this mockup as the team at JediDefender have posted that the box next to the Death Star is for Transformers and not Galactic Heroes. So, the jury is still out on this one folks.

Toyguide Update: Remote Control R5-X2
May 20, 2009 | 9:34 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates today with the addition of one of the newest exclusives heading soon (hopefully) to Target’s shelves – the Remote Control R5-X2. For those who have the previous releases, R5-X2 is on the same frequency/band as R2-Q5 (Band 2) so you could theoretically control 2 droids at the same time with one remote. Each droid includes the required batteries but you’ll need to reinstall them properly to activate them. When the droid is not in use, you can store all four batteries in a handy compartmentinside the remote.

Look for the others in this series (R2-D2, R2-Q5 and R5-D4) to start hitting shelves soon for $14.99

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

SWAN Episode 194: Pawns of the Darkside
May 11, 2009 | 10:35 PM EST | Jayson

You see that Star Trek movie yet? Despite being a Star Wars podcast and having a Star Wars web site, it seems that Star TREK is the sci-fi franchise in the spotlight especially this weekend with the new movie out. Remarks have been made such as “This is the Star Trek movie made for Star Wars fans” and Star Wars fans who follow swactionnews on Twitter have said “The new Star Trek is better than the entire prequel trilogy”. With such statements being made, it’s impossible for this to not have an impact on Star Wars collecting, and as such we discuss the state of the two sci-fi franchises and how Star Wars collectors may be impacted on this week’s Star Wars Action News.

And speaking of the prequel trilogy, Star Wars Action News continues its Episode I 10th Anniversary coverage this month as we look back a the Star Wars Episode I Chess Set by Tiger Electronics. how is the detail, how is the game play? Find out on this week’s Star Wars Action News!

Also this week Kevin brings us another vintage review of a figure or two that are getting a little long in the “tooth”, and Kevin sits down with Hasbro employee and copy writer “Dee” discussing the unproduced concept for “The Definitive Star Wars Presentation Chamber”, an item pitched to help new collectors embrace vintage designs.

With Scott From Tulsa’s geek fashion report, discussion of the new Acme character key, and yet another mention of Star Wars Marbs, it’s all this week on Star Wars Action News.

You can download this week’s show here or use the direct link: Regular or Enhanced Versions.

U-3PO Color Change???
May 7, 2009 | 10:56 AM EST | Jayson

I’m not sure how widespread this is yet, but it sure looks like there is variant color regarding the parts for the B-A-D U-3PO in the latest Legacy wave. This link here in the Rebelscum forum shows that U-3PO’s parts may have shifted from a bright silver color to a more muted champagne tone. The figures with this new color were found at Wal-Mart. Maybe keep an eye out to see if parts at your respective stores are making the shift as well if you’re looking to build the droid and have all the parts match. In my opinion, the new color better represents U-3PO’s color in A New Hope.

If you find these new color parts in your hunt for new figures, be sure to send in a report.

Please, take a few moments and send me an email. I will be compiling a page with the answers so that we can all share our thoughts about how we feel about the hobby today.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Spanish Clone Wars
May 1, 2009 | 1:22 PM EST | Jayson

Timed to celebrate the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo, StarWars.com is now featuring — for a limited time — streaming Spanish-language episodes from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The hit weekly series has previously been unavailable online in alternate languages. Five episodes — Ambush, Trespass, Dooku Captured, The Gungan General and Hostage Crisis — will be available online from May 1 through May 7.

Also to commemorate the holiday — which celebrates the Mexican army’s 1862 defeat of invading French forces — StarWars.com will feature an assortment of related content highlighting the Mexican Star Wars fan experience, as well as kid-friendly cultural activities, crafts, Spanish-language multimedia and more.

“We thought it would be a fun experiment to bring the Spanish-language version of The Clone Wars to our online audience in celebration of Cinco de Mayo,” said Bill Gannon, Director of Online Operations for Lucasfilm. “To quote Obi-Wan Kenobi, we are taking our first step into a larger world.”

Just Announced!! Back for a sixth year!:

We would like to invite any “local” collectors ( WV, OH, PA ) and even those not so local to attend JEDICON WV, a Star Wars convention located in a small rural town here in the Mountain state.

We have continued to have this show over the past few years and have grown to where we have to seek a larger venue. We have participation from local groups and some from as far away as VA and DC (the DCSWCC to be precise).

We are pleased to announce that the show will be on October 10th, 2009 and will be held at the Kruger Street Toy and Train Museum (toyandtrain.com) in Wheeling WV! So,with that in mind if anyone here would like to attend, set-up a table or anything else for this year’s show please let me know.

All proceeds from the silent auction, food sales and a portion of the admission costs will benefit Childrens Miracle Network.

Head to Jediconwv.net and our forums for more details and if you have any questions feel free to send a PM to forum member “Big Mac”.
