It looks like the new Saga Legends packaging is really starting to ship in quantity as I saw these at a couple of my local Target stores here in Minnesota this morning. Episode 200: Putting You in the Spotlight
June 25, 2009 | 8:24 PM EST | Jayson

For almost four years Star Wars Action News has been the only podcast bringing you weekly updates with the latest in Star Wars collecting news, product reviews, collecting tips, and commentary. With 199 episodes behind us, why stop now? We continue to bring you the best in Star Wars Collecting with updates on the latest from Gentle Giant, Acme Archives, but to celebrate 200 episodes we have done this show in full video! Darth Bounty and Darth Rockstar take YOU along on a Cincinnati store toy run, and our UK Reporter Steve, the GingerPrince, takes you to the largest Toys R Us in Manchester.

But the focus of this week’s show is to celebrate you, the listeners of Star Wars Action News for 200 episodes. With the video submissions of several listeners, you can take a video tour of the theater room and collection of Jedi Larry B, and get display tips from Scott, Jerry, and Kevin. And you can relive your youth as we have several young Star Wars fans sharing their favorite collectibles with us.

Then we have some in-depth looks at collectibles as Kevin provides a special vintage review and Jerry shares with us his love of Star Wars lenticulars, an item that demands video to be appreciated.

With a disturbing look at what collectors do when (they think) no one’s looking to an inside look at the creative process behind Star Wars comic books, an obligatory 80s reference, and much, much more, it’s all on this celebratory episode of Star Wars Action News.

You can download this week’s show here or use the direct link: Audio or Video Versions.

Star Wars Nostalgia in Southern Tunisia
June 21, 2009 | 11:17 AM EST | Justin2

In what could contain a hint of things come in the live TV series, an article at The National talks about the experiences that some vacationers have had when visiting Tunisia, the famous location for many scenes on Tatooine in our beloved films.

In particular, one local worker in the area mentions the following about areas used in the films:“He gives us money, and we fix it. He said there is another part of Star Wars filming here. In the summer, maybe.”

It’s an interesting read – check it out here, and thanks to darth sidious for the heads up!

New Legends Packaging at Wal-Mart
June 19, 2009 | 1:36 PM EST | Justin2

While at a Wal-Mart outside of the St. Louis area today, I noticed that the Star Wars section was fully restocked – not with the new AOTC B.A.D. wave, or even newer Clone Wars figures – but more Legends figures. But this time, they were the new packaging… and sitting right next to them on the pegs were a lot of the blue and white packaging – of the same figures no less.

It was rather easy passing on figures that have been repacked several times now and most of these were just $4.99 during their initial release, but if you’re a variation collector you might want to check out your local Wal-Marts to see if these have hit your store yet.

Of note, all of these had bent cards and dinged corners – could be a sign that the new packaging design is going to be tougher to find MOMC.

Anyone who knows me in this hobby is aware that my favorite two things about it are customizing and photonovels. And nothing is more fun that seeing other people show off their creative side in their love for Star Wars.

But this custom, to me, is already an all time favorite… an amazing custom of none other than Rykrof Enloe, as an older man during the Rebellion Era, courtesy of forum member DanOfTheDead. Episode 199: The Ultimate Autograph–George Lucas!
June 16, 2009 | 8:52 AM EST | Jayson

For anyone who collects autographs there are some rare, hard to get autographs that would be the one they want above all others. The rarity of these autographs is what makes Master Replicas able to charge $800 more for a Millennium Falcon WITH Harrison Ford’s autograph versus one without. For Arnie, that ultimate autograph has always been George Lucas, and this past weekend at the Siskel Film Center Arnie was able to get that autograph and meet “the maker”. This week on Star Wars Action News, Arnie and Marjorie report on the George Lucas tribute at the Siskel Center and discuss finally getting that picture and autograph.

Also this week, we have a vintage review of not one but two vintage Death Star playsets, one you probably know very well and the other you might not have heard of.

With a review of the new Clone Wars novel No Prisoners and a Hasbro Q&A, it’s all on this week’s Star Wars Action News!

You can download this week’s show here or use the direct link: Regular or Enhanced Versions.

Episode 198: Joke’s On Us
June 8, 2009 | 11:18 PM EST | Jayson

Ever since 1977 Star Wars fans have loved Stormtroopers. But the problem is, they’re all mostly the same. Sure, there are Sandtroopers with their colored shoulders, and Snowtroopers with their erie hoods and half-capes, but really there is just one Stormtrooper. Leave it to Hasbro to find a way to give us a multi-pack full of unique, helmet-removable stormtroopers by making the Joker’s Squad of Stormtroopers from the Legacy comic books. We review these figures this week.

Also this week we look at other offerings from Hasbro including some new Titaniums, the Target exclusive remote controlled Astromech droids, the Target exclusive Jabba’s Rancor, and the TIE Fighter Bust from Gentle Giant.

And remember the Star Wars Action News video idol contest where you can win great prizes and prize packs from sponsors Most Wanted Collectibles, Brian’s Toys, Kotobukiya, and Sideshow Collectibles.

To enter just contribute a video for Star Wars Action News’ 200th episode and turn it in by 6/17/2009. All the details about the contest can be found on the show or at our web site. We look forward to seeing your videos!

And thank you for listening to this week’s Star Wars Action News.

Wattographs Autograph Signings: Phil Tippett & Colin Ware!
June 7, 2009 | 12:00 PM EST | Brandon

In 1984 Phil Tippett along with John Berg headed the ILM animation department in The “Empire Strikes Back.” Tippett & Berg’s innovative stop-motion technique brought life to the rebellion’s Tauntauns and menacing AT-AT Walkers. Afterwards, Tippett led the creature shop in 1983 for “Return of the Jedi” supervising all the aliens of Jabba’s Palace and the rebellion which won him the Oscar that year. He was personally selected by Stephen Spielberg to supervise the animation of dinosaurs for “Jurassic Park”. His other films include “Virus” and “Starship Troopers” among others. Mr. Tippett will be signing official photographs and fans’ personal items!

Colin Ware played cowardly neimoidians, Lushros Dofine and Viceroy Nute Gunray in “Revenge of the Sith.” Gunray continuously avoided capture and trial during the Clone Wars until Darth Vader brought him to justice -from a certain point of view. Mr. Ware will be signing official photos and fan’s personal items!

Signing ends June 30th at 11:59:59pm EDT. Personal items need to be in Scott’s possession by June 30th. Visit Wattographs for complete signing details!

Episode 197: We Get Mugg-ed
June 2, 2009 | 8:51 AM EST | Jayson

The Star Wars Mighty Muggs are an interesting line. While so many of the Muggs warm shelves across the nation, others go for top dollar on eBay. With shoddy distribution and a number of exclusives, the only true reliable way to get the newest Muggs at near-retail prices is ordering by the case. This week on Star Wars Action News, we open cases of Wave 8 and 9 Mighty Muggs and see if they are worth the trouble, and also review the exclusive Admiral Ackbar and Shadow Stormtrooper Muggs.

Also this week we have a very special Hasbro Q&A. Recently Hasbro announced that the collector market is waning and as such actions have been taken, such as removing the upcoming Force Unleashed wave from the regular lineup, instead making those figures exclusives, and that there will be a reduction in future collector-specific figures in the line. On this week’s Q&A we drill for details on what this means for the Legacy collection, for comic packs, for the upcoming Expanded Universe wave of figures, and for collectors in general. Hasbro was very generous in giving us in-depth, detailed answers and it is one of our most thought-provoking Q&As yet.

And more this week, Star Wars Action News along with sponsors Brian’s Toys, Sideshow Collectibles, and Kotobukiya are holding a contest in celebration of Star Wars Action News’ 200th episode. Details are revealed in this episode on how you can win a 1/6 Scale Ki-Adi Mundi, a set of Clone Wars Jedi Art-FX Statues, or a Vintage Carded Return of the Jedi Stormtrooper figure! Listen to find out how to enter and win STAR WARS ACTION NEWS VIDEO IDOL!

With voice mails from Disney World and more, it’s all this week on Star Wars Action News.

You can download this week’s show here or use the direct link: Regular or Enhanced Versions.
