VC40 R5-D4

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with the addition of R5-D4 from the Vintage Collection.

PROS: Looks stellar on the vintage card. The body has a dirty wash (albeit faint) that some were fearing might be omitted from this “new” version. Since this utilizes the build-a-droid mold, parts can be swapped with other B.A.D. astromechs for additional play value and customization.

CONS: Vestigial Build-A-Droid holes in the figure’s sides not really fitting for the Vintage “collector” line. Back of the body still missing orange panels that Kenner seemed to notice on the 1978 figure and that were present on the Target Exclusive Remote Controlled version.

VC39 Luke Skywalker (Death Star Escape)

The Yakface Toyguide updates return today with the addition of Luke Skywalker (Death Star Escape) from the Vintage Collection.

PROS: A somewhat new take on a classic character as the previous version was little more than a statue. The modification of the Resurgence of the Jedi Battle Pack Luke works well here especially with the added soft goods. Decent likeness and a fair amount of accessories.

CONS: Comlink accessory is very tiny and can be easily lost if precautions aren’t taken to secure it. Would have been swell if we could have received a headset accessory too in order render that POTF2 Gunner Station Luke obsolete as well.

More Republic Attack Shuttle Confirmation

Our friends at Rebelscum have received an image captured from Toy News magazine that confirms rumors and speculation of a Republic Atatck Shuttle for the Clone Wars line. As the Turbo Tank and AT-TE before it, the vehicle will incorporate playset-style features for additional play value. Look for this to be on display at Toy Fair next month (if not leaked on the various fan sites sooner).

Check out the article and be sure to share your thoughts in the forums!

Update: Our friends across the pond at Jedi News have posted a scan from Toys ‘n’ Playthings which again proclaims the imminent arrival of the Clone Wars Republic Attack Shuttle. The article also confirms other new products set to be revealed in a couple weeks at Toy Fair. Check it out.

Yakface and JTA Team Up for Special RDR

We have teamed up with Jedi Temple Archives to provide a guest review for their ongoing Research Droids Reviews series. For our contribution, I take a look at The Saga Collection’s R4-M6 (Mace Windu’s Astromech Droid) to see how it fits into the modern era’s grand scheme of collecting. Head on over to see if you think this astromech worth tracking down if you missed it back in 2007.

A huge thanks to JTA for their generous invitation.
