Sideshow Collectibles: Star Wars Mythos

Sideshow Collectibles has posted an announcement for a new line of Star Wars statues called “Star Wars Mythos“.

This new line of collectibles will be populated by characters from new and existing story lines. We will bring history, unique details and personal choices to each in order to elaborate on who they are. Through the design and sculpt process our goal was to delve deeper into these established characters and offer our own interpretations of what they were doing outside of the Star Wars canon.

Head to Sideshow for the complete details.

Toyguide Update: CW13 Captain Rex Phase II

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the next addition for the 2012 “Darth Maul” product line. We continue with Captain Rex (CW13) donning his Phase II armor in The Clone Wars line.

PROS: On its face, this version of Captain Rex is probably the best looking version yet. The Phase II design simply looks awesome and it’s nice to see Hasbro pull out the weathering brush to give Rex that battle-hardened look (though it doesn’t quite make up for the figure’s short-comings). The paint job overall is very good and I love the tick-marks that are scattered about his armor. Could this be for battle droid “kills” that Rex is keeping track of or could they have a more somber meaning – one for each of his fallen brothers.

CONS: Where to begin. Obviously, the bantha in the room is the unforgivable lack of articulation in the legs and wrists. Their absence make for some pretty non-actiony poses. Why Hasbro didn’t repurpose the Phase II Clone Trooper (CW2) mold is baffling considering it is already using its torso? The non-removable helmet (Commander Cody got one, why not Rex?), while an excellent sculpt, is a bit oversized for the body.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and to judge for yourself whether this figure is worth adding to your collection.
