Toyguide Update: 15-pc. Blind Box Trading Figure Assortment

blind_box_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with a unique entry into 2013 “Darth Vader” Collection line of products. Collectors in Japan, courtesy of the Hot Toys/Hasbro partnership, are able to purchase an assortment of blind box “mystery” figures which pull characters from the first waves of Saga Legends and Mission Series sets.

At first look, you may think there is nothing really “new” here but, unlike their carded counterparts in most areas of the world, each of these figures also include a display base/stand similar to what came with the figures in the Saga Collection. The case itself is able to be converted into a shelf display and includes one of each figure.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and to judge for yourself if these are something worth adding to your collection.

You can also weigh in with your impressions on the figures we add to our toyguide on facebook and in our forums.

Spring Price Exploring at Target?

targetclearance

Living in Minnesota, home to retailer Target, our stores are often used as a test market for product roll outs as well as pricing – meaning that a particular item at one store may cost higher or lower depending on the area of “the Metro” (Minneapolis/St. Paul and its suburbs). Our friend Jeff at JediDefender has posted an interesting observation in his area regarding “spring price exploring” for Saga Legends, Mission Series, The Black Series products.

Could this be just a regional experiment or can the rest of the country expect an average 10% bump in Star Wars action figure pricing as well? Like most things, only time will tell.

How can the quality be this bad?

While I am passing on most of the 5POA figures due to their lack of appeal to me, I can’t help but look at the terrible paint applications many of these figures have (when you can actually find them, that is).  Example being the Mission Series Obi Wan Kenobi… I’ve seen 8 samples in person so far, and of those, maybe 1 had a decent paint job on the face.

We see terrible paint apps on a lot of the Black Series figures too – such as the Stormtrooper, which looks hideous.  Does Hasbro even care anymore?  Will this start getting better with Rebels?  Share your thoughts in the forums.
