And The Ultimate Star Wars Collector Is……..
February 28, 2003 | 9:49 AM EST | Mark

COLIN SKOWRONSKI NAMED AS THE AGE 15+ WINNER OF HASBRO’S SEARCH FOR THE ULTIMATE STAR WARS COLLECTOR

In late 2002 Hasbro, Inc. searched the galaxy for young Padawans looking for the best young Star Wars collector. And, since every would-be Jedi needs their mentor, how could we not also look for the ultimate Star Wars collector in the 15 and over age category.

We’re very pleased to announce that our search has ended with Colin Skowronski of Plano, Texas! As the Grand prize winner, Colin will be awarded an action figure crafted in his likeness, a trip to Hasbro for himself and a guest and a complete set of Hasbro’s 2003 Star Wars 3.75 basic action figures and a special JORG SACUL (“SACUL” is Lucas spelled backwards) figure.

Thank you to all the passionately enthusiastic Star Wars collectors across the country who entered the contest.

May the Force be with you!

Two New Luke Jedi’s Coming
February 27, 2003 | 8:49 AM EST | Mark

Hasbro has updated again with news and images of two new Luke Jedi’s that we will be getting. Click on the link to see the images.

Introducing two new versions of Luke Skywalker from Return of the Jedi. In Spring of 2004, we will be releasing a new sculpt of Luke with tons of detail and multiple points of articulation (see 2004 sculpting input). In the Fall of 2003, a new kids’ version of Luke will also be available. This aggressive version of Luke has a cool lightsaber slashing action to recreate the Throne Room battle with Darth Vader. While kids love the cool action features, the wave of figures including Luke, Darth Vader and the Snowtrooper will be the last wave for 2003 with action features. This Fall, Collection 1 figures will become Clone Wars figures with an emphasis on cool new gear. And Collection 2 will become our Saga Collection and we will continue to offer movie-based figures with great authenticity, detail and articulation.

Unleashed Luke, Sidious And Obi-Wan!
February 26, 2003 | 1:17 PM EST | Mark

Hasbro has updated the site today with pictures of these three new unleashed figures: Check it out.

New Unleashed figures are coming this summer! Capturing the most compelling Star Wars characters in their rawest and most electrifying moments, Wave 2 unleashes Luke Skywalker, Darth Sidious, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

When Luke ignites his father’s lightsaber for the first time, he begins a journey down a difficult yet magnificent path that leads to the salvation of an entire galaxy. The Force is strong in Luke and he grows in skill and wisdom through the teachings of Ben Kenobi and his training with the wise Jedi Master Yoda.

Darth Sidious is a chilling specter of evil who casts his oppressive shadow over the galaxy. Sidious began to build his terrible empire upon the crushed remnants of the Jedi Order and the shattered remains of the war-torn galaxy.

Always a cautious and disciplined person, Obi-Wan Kenobi stands as a shining example of all the qualities that become a great Jedi: complete dedication, uncompromising honor and consummate skill. His careful nature is in strong contrast to the emotional impulses of his apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, and he strives to instill some of his cautious approach into the volatile young Padawan.

FAO Stores Working To Be Sure All Orders Filled
February 21, 2003 | 9:28 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader Bill sent in this report:

“I tried to ordered a Shuttle from the FAO store in Michigan in Sept. and was told that my name was going on a waiting list as they could no longer take orders. On Tues. of this week I was contacted by the store in Kansas and was asked if I was still interested in getting my hands on a Shuttle…Actually I had totally forgotten about it and it really wasn’t that important as I only collect the 12″ figures of which I have all (including the marmit figs.) I don’t have the vintage figures, but I’m waiting to purchase those mint in mint box. Anyway… I asked how the Kansas store, how they had gotten my name… I was told that the store in Michigan was going out of business and that my name had been forwarded to their store. I did in the end go ahead and purchase it. I thought you guys might find this interesting…”

Hasbro’s Star Wars Press Release
February 15, 2003 | 12:04 PM EST | Bill

Hasbro just released this rundown of the 2003 Star Wars line:

STAR WARS ADVENTURES CONTINUE IN 2003 WITH NEW CLONE WARS STORYLINE AND ACTION FIGURES FROM HASBRO

Star Wars has been a favorite of fans, young and old, for more than a quarter of a century and Hasbro continues to replicate the excitement of the epic saga with a new line of authentically detailed action figures, vehicles and lightsabers.

As kids and collectors continue to enjoy re-living the adventure of the Star Wars saga through Hasbro’s toy line, they will be excited with the news of new Clone Wars-themed toys and entertainment in 2003. Clone Wars is Lucasfilm’s story of good and evil and the galactic conflict that takes place between Star Wars Episodes II and III.

Hasbro also brings to the devoted generations of Star Wars toy collectors all new ways to enhance their collections in 2003, with action figures that showcase all the detail, authenticity and wide range of characters that collectors have enjoyed in Hasbro’s Star Wars line for more than 25 years.

Kids and collectors are both sure to feel the force with the following new 2003 Hasbro Star Wars products, extending their enjoyment of one of the most successful and popular entertainment properties of all time:

CLONE WARS

Yoda noted ominously at the end of Star Wars: Episode II — “Begun, this Clone War has!” Hasbro’s new Clone Wars action figures and vehicles combine what generations of kids have loved through the first five episodes of the Star Wars saga: battling action between the characters and the classic struggle between good and evil. Bridging the story of what happens between Star Wars Episode II and Episode III, Clone Wars is an imaginative continuation of the story line developed by George Lucas — the tale of galactic conflict between the Republic Army and the Droid Armies. The fascinating new line, which will be available in the fall, features figures that are loaded with mission-specific gear and vehicles from the Clone Wars fantasy.

Clone Wars Basic Figures (Approximate retail price: $4.99)

The basic figures in the Clone Wars collection include new versions of key characters kids loved in Episode II with cool gear like the STARFIGHTER PILOT ANAKIN, ready to lead the clone armies into the battle. Also in the line are new villains to battle the Jedi. Nine Clone Wars figures are planned for 2003 including new versions of YODA and MACE WINDU.

Clone Wars Multi-Packs (Approximate retail price: $9.99)

Beginning in the fall, kids and collectors can begin building up their troops for mass battle action with three-packs of clones, droids and Jedi figures. Additional figures include DESTROYER DROID with launcher, a new Bounty Hunter with SPEEDERBIKE, and NEW CLONE COMMANDO with SPEEDERBIKE.

Clone Wars Vehicles

No Star Wars battle is complete without the awesome firepower and thrilling maneuvers of iconic vehicles. Elevating the conflict between the Republic and the Separatists in the Clone Wars, Hasbro plans to offer six different authentically detailed vehicles that fit the 3-3/4 inch figures, each loaded with working action features and battle weapons:

CLONE WARS REPUBLIC GUNSHIP (Approximate retail price: $29.99) The biggest of the Clone Wars vehicles! The clone army’s most powerful battle machine, the heroic REPUBLIC GUNSHIP has a new Clone Wars look. The handle on top allows kids to transport the action anywhere and launch into battle with its firing laser cannons, a deployable troop platform, opening canopy, and rotating wing blasters.

VEHICLE ASSORTMENT (Approximate retail price: $19.99) The Clone Wars battles take place on the ground and in the air. These five great vehicles enable you to recreate the action on both. The Geonosian fighters are back in the Clone Wars to battle against the Republic. THE GEONOSIAN FIGHTER vehicle comes with an exclusive GEONOSIAN PILOT figure featuring blast-out side cannons. The “HAILFIRE” DROID recreates the massive firepower seen in the Episode II scenes with eight firing missiles on each side of the vehicle. Also available is the new ANAKIN SKYWALKER STARFIGHTER, a suped-up, maxed-out starfighter that Anakin has enhanced with firepower and speed. Two additional vehicles will be available, including the ARMORED ASSAULT TANK (AAT) and a new JEDI STARFIGHTER, first seen in the deleted scenes of the Episode II DVD.

Star Wars SAGA ACTION FIGURES

For years, Star Wars kids and collectors have known they can turn to Hasbro to relive the Star Wars films with a wide range of authentically detailed action figures featuring their favorite characters from key scenes. Hasbro honors that tradition once again, with a 2003 offering of action figures sure to please both the newest young Star Wars fans and the devoted collectors.

SAGA SCENE Packs Approximate retail price: $19.99)

With the new SAGA SCENE PACKS, collectors can build dioramas of the coolest scenes from Episode II. Collectors can enjoy the scene graphics either in-package or out of package, and can continue to build their dioramas with Hasbro’s basic figures from Collection 2. Each scene comes with three figures, at least two of which are figures never done before. Four scenes are planned for 2003, including: The JEDI COUNCIL and the GEONOSIS WAR ROOM.

Basic Figures (Approximate retail price: $4.99)

Offered in two collections, the basic 3-3/4-inch figures have enhanced articulation and amazing detail that are also cool to display. Pair the basic figures with Star Wars vehicles for even more fun!

COLLECTION 1 basic figures offer the main heroes and villains from the entire Star Wars saga with fun action features. New waves of figures will be available at retail until September, including MACE WINDU ARENA CONFRONTATION, R2-D2 DROID FACTORY FLIGHT and LUKE SKYWALKER from RETURN OF THE JEDI.

COLLECTION 2 basic figures feature the more obscure characters from the Star Wars universe, with a focus on authenticity, detail and articulation that collectors want. New and classic figures will be introduced throughout the year, including AAYLA SECURA JEDI KNIGHT, YODA and CHIAN and COLEMAN TREBOR.

Deluxe Figures (Approximate retail price: $9.99)

Packed with extra fun, the deluxe figure assortment features cool action-oriented figures with accessories or vehicle, such as FLYING ACTION JANGO FETT and SPIDER DROID that really walks!

Unleashed Figures (Approximate retail price: $14.99)

Eight new figures will be let loose in the collectible UNLEASHED assortment. These seven-inch, highly detailed figures capture the essence of the character in dynamically posed artistic interpretations. Characters include LUKE SKYWALKER and OBI-WAN KENOBI. Ages 8+

12-Inch Collector Figure Assortment (Approximate retail price: $19.99)

A collector favorite for years, these larger scale classic and Episode II figures offer multiple points of articulation with accessories and soft-goods costumes to pose and create incredible displays. Ten new 12-inch figures are available, including HAN SOLO with QUICK DRAW and LANDO IN SKIFF DISGUISE.

LIGHTSABERS

Since the Star Wars galaxy was first introduced more than 25 years ago, Hasbro’s lightsaber role-play toys have remained high on the wish lists of kids and collectors. To continue the fun and fantasy of Star Wars, many exciting lightsaber versions will be available this year.

Electronic Lightsabers (Approximate retail price: $19.99)

The popular electronic lightsabers return with their real lightsaber sounds. New this year is YODA’s green lightsaber, and being reintroduced are replicas of the lightsabers carried by LUKE SKYWALKER and DARTH VADER.

Basic Lightsabers (Approximate retail price: $6.99)

Kids continue to love the crash-and-bash play that is fundamental to Star Wars re-enactments and fun. Six basic lightsabers are available at retail now.

STAR WARS SAGA VEHICLES

SPEEDER BIKE VEHICLES (Approximate retail price: $12.99)

Key scenes in Episode II feature the signature SPEEDER BIKE, which whisks its rider into battle on the ground or in the air with daring speed and maneuvers. There are two SPEEDER BIKES in the assortment, ANAKIN SKYWALKER’S SWOOP BIKE with ANAKIN figure, and DARTH TYRANUS GEONOSIAN SPEEDER BIKE with DARTH TYRANUS figure. Both are available now.

MICRO MACHINES ACTION FLEET VEHICLES (Approximate retail price: $12.99) Putting the world of Star Wars action in the palm of your hand, MICRO MACHINES ACTION FLEET returns with more of what made it so popular for many years. Hasbro offers 11 new vehicles in a mix of both the classic and new vehicles desired by collectors. Each vehicle, including JANGO FETT’S SLAVE I and the REPUBLIC GUNSHIP, is decorated with authentic detail and comes with a display stand.

February 12, 2003 | 10:27 PM EST | Bill

I you want to have the original, Original Trilogy (not the Special Edition version of the Original Trilogy) on DVD, all signs continue to point to your being disappointed, however there is a chance to let your voice be heard. There is an online petition to let Lucas know we want to see the ORIGINAL VERSION on DVD too. Shuttle Peg Problem
February 12, 2003 | 10:19 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader Sithkiss sent in this report:

“I received my Shuttle (finally) and upon initial inspection, I knew Hasbro was to use the same vintage mold as w/ previous ships sans electronics (how lame for the $). However unlike the POTF2-AT-AT where they corrected the interior action figure foot pegs for the newer figs, in the Shuttle, they kept the old foot pegs designed for vintage figures.

Also, buyers should check their cc statements and invoices- mine did not match with one another nor with catalog price and use of the 10% coupon I used prices for toy and shipping. Fortunately, FAO was gracelul enought to correct the error and credit the differences (over $28.)”

Shuttle Modifications…
February 11, 2003 | 10:15 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader Steven sent this tip in:

“Got mine shipped this afternoon. After opening it, I noticed they have attached the rotating guns (the ones attached to the folding wings) backwards–by that I mean that they should be able to rotate and point up to the sky as the shuttle lands and the wings fold up. The original toy did, and the ILM model did and the glue-together model I had 20 years ago did. Yet they assembled this newest version wrong. Fortunately, you can wiggle the pieces loose and re-attach correctly.”

Baseless Your Classic Figures Are?
February 10, 2003 | 8:45 PM EST | Bill

Hasbro’s Star Wars page has updated with a revised 2003 figure list. This one includes a number of previously released figures, including Saga and POTF2 which will be re-released as part of the 2003 line. Now before the complaints about rehashes start, read a little further. These figures will includes display bases like we’ve seen on the newest waves of Saga figures. It sounds like these might just be worth snagging for the display bases— especially to army builders and diorama builders! Click here for the story.

Shuttle Update
February 10, 2003 | 8:41 PM EST | Bill

Yak Reader Clonetrooper Commander from Kansas City reported in: FAO Schwartz here in town has gotten their shipment of shuttles in and are calling those who reserved them to pick them up. While I was there , I talked to the manager. He said that their store received 140 of them and all were taken, and that none would hit the floor anywhere in the country. Glad I ordered mine. Keep up the good work!!!

UPDATE: The West Coast Report

Yak Reader Don sent this in: “Hello I live in southern Calif. and was just called tonight at 8:00 Pacific time and was told that my FAO in L.A. got there shipment. The best part of it was that they got more than was ordered and I was able to get two of them instead of only one like I was first told. Good luck to everyone else.”

If you have a local FAO, Monday & Tuesday might be a good time to pay them a visit or a call.

Need To Accessorize Your Collection?
February 9, 2003 | 6:25 PM EST | Bill

This just in from Yak Reader Kenny:

“I walked into a TARGET in Brooklyn today and they finally had the 4 accessory packs on sale for $7.99. Not much of a difference but its a start. They were not “marked down”. They usually let the public know with the red stickers that they indeed have been reduced. But instead, they hung a yellow tag with the sale price that was left out of this weeks circular.”

Star Wars Weekends 2003 @ Disney’s MGM Studios
February 8, 2003 | 1:40 AM EST | Sharon

For those of you that have never had a chance to experience Star Wars Weekends, since 2000, it has become an annual event during the month of May(Fri, Sat & Sun) at the Disney MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida.

There are many great things happening for Star Wars fans during this Most Wonderful Time of the Year! The event takes place, of course, in the area of the Star Tours ride. There are Star wars costumed characters for photos, SW Trivia contests with cool prizes, Jedi Training Academy for the young Padawans, exclusive Star Wars Weekends merchandise at Tatooine Traders(collectible pins, etc), and best of all, stars from the films that are available for question & answer sessions, autographs & photos at scheduled times.

Each weekend offers 2, or sometimes 3 special guests appearing on Fri, Sat & Sun. Past guests have included:
Carrie Fisher, Jeremy Bulloch, Dave Prowse, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, Ian McCaig, Doug Chiang, Steven Sansweet, Hugh Quarshie(Capt Panaka), Phil Brown(Uncle Owen), Warwick Davis, Jake Lloyd(young Anakin), and Mike Quinn.

Disney has done this in past years, but it has only become an annual event since 2000. Unfortunately, Disney likes to wait until the last minute(April?) to announce who will be appearing. Last year(2002), they did not have any featured guests due to schedule conflicts with Celebration 2. My sources tell me that we have a green light for this year’s event, and may even get 5 weekends instead of 4! Woo Hoo!!!!

If you are interested in attending, there are some nice local folks that have put together a small website for updates and news on the SWW event, just in case you want to check it out. The dates I have heard so far for the event this year will be May 15 – June 16. Will post more info as I get it.

I am lucky enough to live right here in Orlando, and I am a regular visitor for SWW(Star Wars Weekends). It is really a blast! I will be taking pictures, and covering the event for Yak, in able to share with those of you unable to attend. Stay tuned…

Imperial Shuttle Update
February 2, 2003 | 11:54 PM EST | Bill

This just in from Yak Reader Rob:

“I had ordered the Tyridium Shuttle through the Las Vegas FAO Schwartz and was initially told they would be available at the end of JAN. But after my credit card failed to be charged, I became concerned that I had slipped through the cracks. I called the store today and was informed the shuttles have arrived in New Jersey warehouse but will not be distributed to the stores until the week of 3 FEB because all the stores are going through inventory. They expect to receive them sometime next week and even mentioned recalling everyone to provide an updated status. So perhaps by mid-February, people should start seeing them delivered.”

UPDATE:

This just in from Yak Reader Tim in Memphis:

I just got offline with FAO using their LIVE HELP section on their site…my Shuttle shipped today….they gave me a tracking # and the total charged to my credit card..I then called the credit card company to make sure this was true and it had been charged to my card and they didnt charge me shipping….I had complained to one of the reps earlier in January about the delays and he told me he would take care of shipping….and he did…they are shipping from the Virginia warehouse and I live in TN so mine shoudl be here by Wednesday of this week….”

International Star Wars Meet Up Day
February 1, 2003 | 12:55 PM EST | Sharon

Monday, February 17th, @ 7:00 PM,(3rd Monday of the month) is International Star Wars Meet Up Day. Meet local fans/collectors in your area in a public place, for coffee, etc.

This could be a great chance to network with others in the constant struggle to keep up with our collections. Internet trade sites are great, but there is nothing like having a local few Star Wars buddies too !!

Some areas have structured local SW clubs, but many have not,…
maybe this thoughtful site can help! It could give many a chance to organize something in your local area. Pass it on to others….
Thanks to Chris Solo for the info!!!
