At one of my local Kmarts (Flint, Michigan), I picked up the following over the last couple days: Anakin’s and Zam’s speeders $1.50 each, Slave 1 (3 3/4 scale) $3.00, Obi Wan’s Jedi Starfighter $2.50, and an Arena playset for my son’s friend
$4.00! This last one killed me, because we paid $30.00 for one during Christmas for my son! Anyway, I am thinking that other Kmarts across the country might have similar savings. By the way, the several price tags on the items did reflect the price at the scanner they were lower! ”

I stumbled upon a story over at /. this morning about the ASCI text version of Star Wars on the web. This guy has been working on completing a full version of A New Hope in animated ASCI text since 1997. Its pretty cool what he has done, and if you haven’t seen it in a while, he is constantly updating his movie. The last update was the 20th of this month, he is to the scene where Han and Luke enter the detention block on the Death Star. Check it out HERE.

The company Code 3 who makes some really cool Die Cast models has just announced their first Star Wars Collectible (second if you count the Skywalker Ranch Fire Engine). They are doing a highly detailed Millennium Falcon. Its going to be over a foot long and is made of over 400 pieces. Sold under the “Uzay” brand name, some of the more interesting Star Wars items came out of the country Turkey. Including some very unique variations on figures (one of the coolest is pictured in this auction). These 2 auctions feature a couple of items sold as “mini-rigs” in the USA. They include the MLC-3 and theMTV-7. By themselves, these vehicles are not all that interesting. But, put them in the Turkish boxes and they make for a prized item in the complete Star Wars Collection.

While moving my collection to my recently-built “toy room”, I’ve come across a few of these “catalog” type booklets that were packaged with Star Wars toys from Kenner in the 70’s and 80’s. I’m thinking about listing them on eBay, but have no idea what they’re worth. Does anyone know the current value of these items or know where I could find such info?
A particularly interesting re-discovery is a black and white comic-book style promo booklet for, if memory serves, the Imperial Troop Transporter.

The newest Toyfare magazine has information on the upcoming Clone Wars cartoon series that will be on The Cartoon Network. The first episode will air on November 7th at 8pm. There will be a total of 20 episodes with 10 airing in November and 10 in February (and if you’re like me you’re hoping to get these on DVD, either by themselves or on the Episode III DVD!).

Hasbro’s newest deluxe figures have been appearing with a number of on-line retailers in the last few days. One of the two new deluxe items is the Super Battle Droid Builder. While it’s main feature (using a playdough-like approach) to “build” Super Battle Droids has been known for a while, it is a bit of a surprise feature. Both ends of the “press” are designed to attach to our ever growing droid factory assembly line… along with the Deluxe C3PO set, the “magnet/chopping” piece from the arena, and the new Padme’s base! Since I’ve been absent for a couple of days, I ran across this item that excited me. This one I remember from a trip to see some family in Kansas City. My brother in law took me to a video arcade for the first time. I headed straight for the Star Wars Sit Down Arcade Game.. I don’t think they tore me away from it the entire night! Anyway, this is a must have if you have a couple grand to spend and plenty of room around your house.

Its absolutely amazing to me to think about how much the store Sears has changed in my lifetime. When I was a kid, that was one of the only places to shop in the small town I grew up in. And I couldn’t wait until Christmas time to see what new Star Wars toys would be in the Holiday Catalog (what we had to go through before the internet!). Some of the rarest vintage pieces were exclusive sets to Sears. Today we are featuring one of the later ones – The Jabba the Hutt Dungeon. This playset was a rehash of the Droid Factory Playset, but included three figures – EV-9D9, Amanaman, and Barada.

A great article this morning in the Sidney Morning Herald for the computer geek in all of us. It talks about the switch at ILM from Silicon Graphics workstations to Dell Workstations running running Linux. It says they are 3 times faster than the ones they replaced at 1/5th the price. The article goes on to talk about the possibilities of REAL TIME CGI. But, I’m back and bringing to the best of Vintage Star Wars toys on Ebay. Today we have the set that started it all. This is the one that has led to hundreds of additional Star Wars figures being released. The first Christmas that Star Wars figures were available, instead of actual figures everyone who ordered them got a box with a certificate for a set of the first 4 figures. So, what did that certificate actually get you? This auction for an Early Bird mailer set is a nice example of what was mailed out. The set includes Luke with the double telescoping lightsaber, Chewbacca with a Green Crossbow, Princess Leia and R2D2.

Monday and stopped by the Primm Outlet Center (30 min. before Vegas) and found some excellent deals. I got the Interactive Lightsaber for a mere $9.99. I grabbed 3 for Christmas gifts. I also found the 12″ Electronic Obi Wan and Jango Fett for only $12.99 each. I also picked up the Jedi Starfighter (without Obi-Wan) for $9.99. The guy at the store was really cool because he said they just got the Star Wars toys in. He even pulled out some other boxes out from the back to show me but I had pretty much everything already (Djas Phur wave case, Jedi Starfighter case, and more 12″ electronic Obi & Jango). Continuing the pioneering efforts to expand digital cinema, Lucasfilm will use the latest Sony HD cameras and equipment to capture the images for Episode III when principal photography begins this summer.
Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones broke new cinematic ground as the first major motion picture to be shot entirely on high-definition (HD) digital cameras, without traditional film.

Great new finds popping up…JediJones says the Hazleton, PA Wal-Mart had 6 Yoda lightsabers on the shelf today. It comes in a Saga AOTC box, the same style and size as last year’s lightsaber boxes, and is the same price ($19.76). The package says it extends to over 2 feet long. The date stamp on back is 1/20/2003, 10 weeks ago.

Durge Revealed

The new Star Wars Republic Comic (#51) introduces Durge to the Clone Wars. I have to say I was a little ambivalent about this character when I first saw him, but the background story in the comic makes him VERY interesting. Just a teaser he is from a long lived species (or other type of sentience)— he says at the time of the action in Republic #51 that he hasn’t killed Jedi in over 100 years! Check it out!
