Knights of the Old Republic Out Today & Other Stuff, too
November 28, 2007 | 11:40 AM EST | Holocron_Master_Nick

Look for issue #23, with the story arc, Knights of Suffering part 2 at your local comic book store, book store and online with Dark Horse Comics. Here’s the link to Dark Horse . Plus The Essential Guide to Jedi vs Sith was released this month and I had a chance to peruse it at my local book store. It’s unlike the other Essential Guides because there is a lot of info on everything including the first record of the force being used, as well as a breakdown of lightsaber styles and moves. The author is Ryder Windham, who has done most of the Star Wars books for the younglings. Although I only had a few minutes flipping through it, I was impressed by the artwork and illustrations. Like I stated earlier it doesn’t focus on props, ships, weapons, etc that are broken down & labeled with life-like images, it’s strictly informational but sprinkled here and there with iconic scenes and some new ones, too that focus on the Jedi, Sith and the Force. Oh, I almost forgot too that the The Star Wars Vault: Thirty Years of Treasures from the Lucasfilm Archives, With Removable Memorabilia and Two Audio CDs by Stephen J. Sansweet and Peter Vilmur is out there but, it goes for like $60-$80 or somewhere around there. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the money nor could I rip open the plastic covering, but the cover looked cool and I believe it has tons of pics & info on just about everything Star Wars.
And Bill has announced, thank you Bill 🙂 , that Fury book 7 by Aaron Allston was released, in paperback, thank God, because those hardcover ones are expensive. I already bought Fury, so as soon as I can there’ll be a review for that one in the Forums under Literature and under Reviews. Oh by the way the review for True Colors the Republic Commando book will be submitted by the end of the week. Thanks for being patient, everyone!

Episode 118: Red Rocket
November 27, 2007 | 11:27 AM EST | Jayson

For a couple months there has been much buzz surrounding some Target exclusive AT-ST Battle Packs. Much like the Imperial Shuttles last year, Hasbro and Target have been mum on the subject but Bothan spies throughout the entire toy network have kept us apprised of their progress. Now, they have been spotted from coast to coast. Marjorie got some at Target, but at $60 it’s a fairly hefty price tag. Is it worth your money? Listen to our review of these items to find out!

Also this week we look at the three new Hasbro comic 2-packs, and further discuss the merits of saving packages for your toys or throwing them out (or taking more Prozac).

All this and more on this week’s Star Wars Action News!

You can download this week’s show from swactionnews.com, the standard version directly here and the enhanced version directly here.

Thanks for listening!

Oklahoma Star Wars Centennial Time Capsule
November 21, 2007 | 5:55 PM EST | Jayson

Here is a fun story sent in by a faithful Yak Reader:

2007 is Oklahoma’s Centennial so to celebrate the occasion Tulsa made a Time capsule, which is going to be opend in 2057, to house a Oklahoma Harley Motorcycle and 300 mini personal time capsules. I obtained 1 of the 300 personal time capsules and wondered what to put in it. So of course it didn’t take long to think of something Star Wars. Here’s what we put in. A Master Replicas .45 Anakin lightsaber in honor of the 30th anniversary of Star Wars and the recent space launch, a 501st Clone Trooper in honor of their 10th anniversary, and yes I wouldn’t be a fan without placing a Boba Fett and Greedo Fig in there too! This capsule was buried on Nov. 10, 2007. So in 50 years when were all old, we can once again dress up in Star Wars stuff, like the bunch of cool people that we are, to see this capsule out and SHOW THE WORLD that Star Wars is still alive and well in 2057!!!! After all, its people like all of us that keep this going! And I have to say it has been a lot of fun!

May the Force be with you….always!
Justin aka “Yakman”

Thanks for the story Justin!

New Auction Site: Just for Star Wars Enthusiasts
November 20, 2007 | 8:01 PM EST | Jayson

There is a new auction site that recently launched that is specifically for Star Wars enthusiasts, RebelTradingPost.com.

The site was created by Brandon Phillips and Tad Jones, who said they just wanted to create a web-site where people who are passionate about Star Wars could buy, sell or chat.

“I was tired of looking for something specific and having to look at thousands of other products,” said Phillips, who used to be a volunteer forum monitor atstarwars.com. “The mega sites are great concepts, but we wanted to offer someplace a little quieter. A place designed just for the enthusiast.”

The site is simple to use, the fee structure is competitive and best of all, there’s a FREE Giveaway every month.

“One thing we wanted to do to reward people for using the site was offer a FREE Giveaway,” Phillips said. “Every month we will have a random drawing for over $75 in Star Wars related items.” This month’s giveaway is a Luke Skywalker Force FX lightsaber.

To be eligible to win the prize you simply have to register on the site, which is free. There are ways to increase your chances like buy an item, list an item or refer a friend.

“The site is designed to be simple and fun for the enthusiasts,” Jones said. “An auction site they can call home.”

Episode 117: Boxing Day
November 20, 2007 | 10:53 AM EST | Jayson

The question of “do you keep your boxes” continues to persist from listeners of Star Wars Action News. From cardbacks to toy boxes to the boxes for high end replicas, sometimes the original boxes are the only method of safe storage or transportation, but saving the boxes can quickly lead to a space issue. Marjorie and Arnie have vastly differing opinions on this subject. Listen to see what solutions are determined when one caller offers a suggestion…

Also this week we look at all the Star Wars offerings from the home of diodes and transistors–Radio Shack. Mini-helmets, flashlights, laser pointers, and the much discussed “build your own F/X lightsaber”, all from Master Replicas, are there for fairly reasonable prices. But are the items worth the money? Your hosts review all the items this week.

Finally, don’t forget that this is the final week for sign-ups for the Star Wars Action News Secret Santa gift exchange! Have you signed up yet? If not, hurry to the forums at swactionnews.com before it’s too late to participate in this holiday fun!

You can download this week’s show from swactionnews.com, the standard version directly here and the enhanced version directly here.

Thanks for listening!

If you missed it before the DPCI is 087-06-0112

Kotobukiya: The Bounty Hunter Series
November 13, 2007 | 11:23 AM EST | Jayson

The acclaimed series of Kotobukiya ARTFX Statues expands with the addition of the highest requested characters from the Star Wars universe: THE BOUNTY HUNTER SERIES. From the darkest chapter of the saga, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader has summoned mercenaries from across the galaxy, and assembled six of the fiercest hunters: Dengar, 4-LOM, Zuckass, Bossk, IG-88, and legendary BOBA FETT – who will be the first character release in this new collectible line.

The enigmatic Boba Fett stands 11 3/4” inches tall in a dynamic combat pose, simultaneously flying and firing his flame thrower. His distinctive Mandalorian armor has been replicated with stunning accuracy, with detailing based upon the costume used in Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi. Each of the Bounty Hunters will include special bonus parts for you to collect. Once all six Hunters have been released, you will be able to assemble the bonus parts into a brand new, full size DARTH VADER ARTFX Statue! A free $100 value given at no additional cost! Fett will include Darth Vader’s left arm.

In addition, each of the Hunters will include a unique hexagonal base, which can be linked together on any side, creating a variety of display options for the full series of characters. Line them up as first seen in Empire, or use the Darth Vader as a centerpiece to assemble the bases to create the symbol of the Galactic Empire!

Summary:
– A new ARTFX Statue each month, six in total
– Interlocking bases, which can be arranged to form the Imperial logo
– Bonus figure parts that can be assembled into a full size Darth Vader statue
– Additional bonus parts that allow Vader to be displayed in three different poses

As with the majority of the Kotobukiya STAR WARS ARTFX Statues, the Bounty Hunters are not exclusives or limited editions, meaning that consumers should be able to add these to their collections without any difficulty, and avoid paying secondary market prices. With their large scale and impeccable paint applications, the ARTFX Statues are snap-fit kits that can be easily put together in seconds without glue or modeling skill.

STAR WARS BOBA FETT ARTFX STATUE will be available in April at comic book or specialty shops. To find a store near you, please visit the Comic Shop Locator Service at comicshoplocator.com, or for more information please visitKotoUS.com

Head to our forums to check out the high res photos.

Episode 116: Video Games Make Great Stocking Stuffers
November 13, 2007 | 6:56 AM EST | Jayson

It’s the Christmas season and traditionally that’s when video games have their highest sales as parents across the country try to figure out what little Johnny needs or wants for Christmas. While little Johnny probably would groove to some Manhunt 2 action (especially with the unrated edition crack) there are some more kid-friendly options from the Star Wars universe. Even with The Force Unleashed being pushed until next April (yeah, it’s April now) there are two new Star Wars games for people of all ages to play. This week Marjorie and Arnie review both Lego Star Wars — The Complete Saga for the Nintendo Wii and Star Wars: Battlefront–Renegade Squadron for the Sony PSP platform.

Also this week, new ceramic candy holders and mugs are appearing on store shelves. Marjorie found some at Target. What are they and are they of good quality? Listen to find out!

Finally, the Star Wars Action News Secret Santa gift trade sign-ups are underway. November 12, 2007 | 3:48 PM EST | Jayson

Yakreader Jim sends word that he’s found the TIE Bomber at his local Target in Hampton, St. Louis

“Just want to let everyone know that the Target Tie Bombers are starting to hit. They are 2 per case and I had to use the DCI # (087-06-0117) to get one from the back stockroom. It rang up at $24.99”

Thanks Jim!

Yak Poll: The Spirit of Sebastian Shaw
November 12, 2007 | 1:11 PM EST | Jayson

A new poll has been added today and the subject involves the new Anakin Skywalker’s Spirit figure. Do you think it should have included the likeness of Sebastian Shaw as an alternate head sculpt. Yes? No? Both?

Vote now in the poll located in the right column of this page.

Toyguide Update: #47 Concept Han Solo
November 12, 2007 | 9:21 AM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates continue and conclude wave 7 with the addition ofConcept Han Solo. Bearing a striking resemblance to a young, blonder, thinner George Lucas, the character of Han Solo was originally slated to be a Jedi Knight rather than the brash, scoundrel he turned out to be. The figure itself continues the bar raising standard set by the other new concept figures. Concept Han features ball jointed shoulders, elbows, knees and head and swivel wrists, waist and hips. He also features a working holster with blaster, lightsaber, separate hilt to attach to his belt and his wind swept cape is removable as well.

Head to the Toyguide to see all the images.

Toyguide Update: #46 R2-D2 with Cargo Net
November 12, 2007 | 7:39 AM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates continue with the addition of R2-D2 with Cargo Net. The Early Bird sculpt R2 makes a return, this time a little dirtier and with some all new accessories. A make shift stretcher used by the Ewoks to tote R2 over the river and through the woods of Endor. Also included is a surprisingly large rubber cargo net used to ensnar R2 and company after Chewie’s hunger pangs get the better of him.

Head to the Toyguide to see all the images.

Toyguide Update: #45 Anakin Skywalker’s Spirit
November 12, 2007 | 6:46 AM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates today with the addition of Anakin Skywalker’s Spirit. Thanks to revisionist history, we are subjected here to the Hayden Christensen likeness of the Spirit of Anakin. I think many, many fans wanted at least an alternate head to switch out pay homage to the original actor (and toys) depicting actor Sebastian Shaw’s likeness. Even with the alternate head, I don’t think it would have helped this figure out as I find it to be the weakest of this wave and that can be attributed to the stiff, translucent material used for the outer robe. Also, do ghosts use/need lightsabers? Spirit Anakin includes an oddly painted version of his blue EII lightsaber and the hilt itself has a peg to attach to his belt, kicker is that there is no hole in his belt to plug the lightsaber into.

Head to the Toyguide to see all the images.

Upcoming Star Wars Literature Goodies
November 11, 2007 | 8:30 PM EST | Holocron_Master_Nick

With the dark ascension of the Empire, and the Jedi Knights virtually wiped out, one Jedi who escaped the massacre is slated for a date with destiny–and a confrontation with Darth Vader.

Jax Pavan is one of the few Jedi Knights who miraculously survived the slaughter that followed Palpatine’s ruthless Order 66. Now, deep in Coruscant’s Blackpit Slums, Jax ekes out a living as a private investigator, trying to help people in need while concealing his Jedi identity and staying one step ahead of the killers out for Jedi blood. Others search for the elusive Jax too. Hard-boiled reporter Den Dhur and his buddy, the highly unorthodox droid I-5YQ, have shocking news to bring Jax–about the father he never knew.

But when Jax learns that his old Jedi Master has been killed, leaving behind the request that Jax finish a mission critical to the resistance, Jax has no choice but to emerge from hiding–and risk detection by Darth Vader to fulfill his Master’s dying wish.

The Coruscant Nights series, by Michael Reaves, begins next summer June 24, I believe from Del Rey Books.

I’ve been waiting for this book for over 2 years now and it’s finally coming next year, YEA!!!

Author Karen Traviss will conclude her Republic Commando series with the hardcover release of Order 66: A Republic Commando Novel. Its grim title should hint of some of the events covered within. It is due out in August 2008 from Del Rey Books. More as out clone intelligence units discover it…

I guess this will be the last in a four book series that has been so far awesome! I’ll have the review for True Colors soon.

Two there should be; no more, no less. One to embody the power, the other to crave it.

Now Darth Bane is ready to put his policy into action, and he thinks he has found the key element that will make his triumph complete: a student to train in the ways of the dark side. Though she is young, Zannah possesses an instinctive link to the dark side that rivals his own. With his guidance, she will become essential in his quest to destroy the Jedi and dominate the galaxy.

There is one who is determined to stop Darth Bane: Johun Othone, Padawan to Jedi Master Lord Hoth, who died at Bane’s hands in the last great Sith War. Though the rest of the Jedi scoff at him, Johun’s belief that there are surviving Sith on the loose is unshakeable.

As Johun continues his dogged pursuit of the man who killed his master, Zannah, faced unexpectedly with a figure from her past, begins to question her embrace of the dark side. And Darth Bane is led by Force-induced visions to a moon where he will acquire astonishing new knowledge and power — power that will alter him in ways he could never have imagined…

Darth Bane: Rule of Two by Drew Karpyshyn is due out this December from Del Rey Books. It features a cover illustrated by John Van Fleet and designed by David Stevenson.

The first book Path of Destruction was really good, like 4 lightsabers good. Will the sequel be as exciting, as insightful and as delicously SITH …? Well you’ll have to wait until the review in December.

Also on December 5th, two of my favorite Star Wars comics will be released,Dark Times #7 and Legacy #18. Can’t wait!! And if you haven’t read any of the four series out now Knights of the Republic, Dark Times, Rebellion andLegacy, I suggest you start by buying back issues anywhere you can find them.

BTW – All comments and questions can be sent to me via the Yakface Forums, under Tek Vorian copywrite

Toyguide Update: #44 Tycho Celchu (A-Wing Pilot)
November 11, 2007 | 6:45 PM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates continue with the addition of Tycho Celchu ( (A-Wing Pilot). The A-Wing Pilot figure gets a much need update (and a name) and this one darn near perfect. Tycho Celchu is fully articulated with ball jointed shoulders, elbows, knees ankles and head. He also features flight helmet, flight cap, and removable leg straps. Surprisingly, he doesn’t include a weapon as opposed to most rebel pilot figures from Hasbro. And truth be told, this figure has a better likeness to Luke than most “actual” Luke figures have had.

Head to the Toyguide to see all the images.

Toyguide Update: #43 Romba & Graak
November 11, 2007 | 6:28 PM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates continue with the addition of Romba & Graak (Ewok Warriors). Here we are treated some of the best product that Hasbro has created for the TAC line. Both Ewoks feature ball jointed head, shoulders and ankles as well as swivel waist, wrists and hips. Romba includes a spear and knife with sheath, while Graak includes bow, quiver and 3 removable arrows. I suggest picking up a couple sets of these guys as you can also mix and match their accessories to add some variety to your Ewok army.

Head to the Toyguide to see all the images.

Toyguide Update: “Purge” Comic Pack
November 11, 2007 | 6:10 PM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates today with the addition of the “Purge” Comic Pack from wave 4, which includes Koffi Arana & Bultar Swan. This comic picks up after the events of Revenge of the Sith and the aftermath of Order 66 and tells the story of a group of Jedi attempting to entrap Darth Vader by baiting him with Obi-Wan Kenobi! Without spoiling it for those who haven’t read the story, the Jedi don’t make out too well and neither does Vader. As for the figures in this pack, Koffi Arana features a fair amount of articulation but his most interesting feature is the ability to plunge a sword in his chest along with the severed forearm of Vader. Bultar Swan is a decent figure as well and features removable chest armor, but the static pose of the legs prevents this from being a really great figure.

Head to the Toyguide to see all the images.

Toyguide Update: “Rogue Squadron #24” Comic Pack
November 9, 2007 | 3:09 PM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide updates continue with the addition of the “Rogue Squadron #24” Comic Pack: including Baron Soontir Fel & Hobbie Klivian. Fans of this series have wanted a Baron Fel for quite some time, and to me this misses the mark. It comes across as a glorified POTF2 figure back when bulky sculpts were the norm. It does have some decent articulation and features though, like the removable TIE Pilot gear. Hobbie (based off of the ever popular Dutch Vander body) is another great addition to the Rebel Ranks. A nice touch here is that Hobbie is wearing a flight cap (non-removable) under his helmet – a first I believe for an X-Wing Pilot.

Head to the Toyguide to see all the images.

K-Mart Exclusive Commemorative Tins
November 9, 2007 | 10:25 AM EST | Jayson

Hasbro.com has updated with details of the upcoming K-Mart Exclusive Commemorative Tins.

This set includes: Commander CodyAnakin SkywalkerGeneral Grievous,Clone Pilot (Black)

Commemorative Tin Collection Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi
This set includes: Darth VaderR5-J2Biker ScoutDeath Star Gunner

Judging by the photos above, all these figures are straight repacks and you can see where by clicking the text links above. The only set with anything remotely “new” to offer is the EII set, which gives a soft goods robe to Mace Windu and a lightsaber to the previously weaponless Oppo Rancisis. Both figures were originally available in the Jedi Council Screen Scene Set #1

Look for these at retail soon.

Toyguide Update: “Republic #57” Comic Pack
November 9, 2007 | 9:30 AM EST | Jayson

The Toyguide has updated today with the Republic #57 Comic Pack: including Anakin Skywalker & Assassin Droid. In this set, we are treated to a nicely articulated, battle worn version of a post-EII Anakin, but the real show stopper of this set is the Pollux A-Series Assassin Droid. It has a TON of articulation as well and to me is way cooler than any Super Battle Droid. Head to the Toyguideto see all the images.

A Pop-Up Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy
November 8, 2007 | 10:46 PM EST | Justin2

Several months back, the official site gave fans a teaser article at the Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy book.

While at Borders yesterday, I was able to see one in person and it’s definitely a cool item as the book is packed with dozens of different pop-ups from full page pop-ups to tiny mini-pop-up flaps.

Not a bad item to add for a Christmas gift for a youngster, which you can do by ordering online here.

New Star Wars Book
November 2, 2007 | 4:27 PM EST | Holocron_Master_Nick

Just let everyone know that Republic Commando Truee Colrs was released On October 30th. Its the third installment, I believe of an excellent series. So grab it today! There’ll be a complete review in about a week or so, as time permits me. I’ve got some speaking engagements lined up for Nov 13 and I’ve got to have a speech that’s 15 minutes long and speak to each period of high schoolers from 7:30am to 2:45. But that not your guys problem and when I say I’ll get something done you bet your nerf-herding butt, that I’ll always try to fulfill that promise! Thanks.
And from now on the reviews will be in the forums section under literature reviews and won’t be on the main page, just a teaser or a link to the right place. I goofed that first review and put it in the wrong place, so please have some patience with me and I’ll get it right next time. Thank you all!
