Museum Replicas Joins With Lucas Licensing

Museum Replicas Ltd. announced February 22 an agreement with Lucasfilm to create licensed Star Wars products. The new line will include full-sized, wearable clothing and armor replicas from a wide range of iconic Star Wars characters, scheduled for debut at the 2008 Comic-Con International this July.
Sideshow plans to support Museum Replicas with distribution, and will be offering the Star Wars costume and replica line for pre-order once details have been released. “We’ve been long-time fans of Museum Replicas product,” says Sideshow President and CEO Greg Anzalone. “This new category will allow for expanded opportunities in Star Wars collecting, and Sideshow will be proud to offer these costume replicas to passionate, discerning fans.”
Some collaboration in life-size character representations may even be on the horizon with the creative influence of the Sideshow Collectibles Design and Development Team. Sideshow Creative Director Tom Gilliland was pleased to hear of this new opportunity, stating, “It was nice to read the good news of the Museum Replicas license, and I look forward to working with them to bring not only their core product of outstanding full-scale costume replicas to collectors, but also the items that result from the combination of our talents in the potential life-size character arena. A good team-effort is invaluable, and our combined creative efforts should produce some great pieces.” Looks like some long-awaited high-end Star Wars costumes are on the way, so keep an eye out for these highly-anticipated releases! Also, still less than retail is the Luke ROTJ V.2 LE Lightsaber. This is the last lightsaber Master Replicas will do. It is quite fitting though…MR started with the Luke ROTJ LE and they finished with the Luke ROTJ V.2 LE. The first Luke is selling for three times the retail price when they were originally for sale, and that lightsaber only had 10 seconds of screen time. This one is on Luke’s belt through out the entire movie, as well on the emperor’s chair. There is no telling how much more than retail this one will be in just one year, not to mention five years. Diamond Select Toys

You know them.. you love them… Diamond, your direct sales company. While they do have a sell through store on-line.
Well now you will have even more to love about them… they have introduced both Star Wars and Indiana Jones lines this year..
Here is a review of what we are going to see.. (sorry, absolutely no images allowed)
First up 18″ Posable Talking Figures
These will be on a comparison level of Sideshow 1/4 scale Premium Format Statues, with their 12″ level of articulation, with the bonus added in sound chips.
Here are the highlights:
– Full cloth outfits, from the same maker of Hasbro’s 12″ line. Good quality.
– Electronic Voice chips, with Try Me packaging, voice chip activated in the chest area.
– 3 figures to start: Han Solo (Hoth – he has a brown color coat), Darth Maul, and Ben Kenobi.
– Window packaging
Now get this… hold onto your seats.. the price will be $75.00 retail for each.
However, there may also be more secrets in store for these, as they were show with nice accessories.. Han had his Binocs, backpack, Maul with the droid, and other items. These may or may not ship with all the items shown, as there may be different price points as well, lower price point would mean less items.. This was not for sure, but a possibility. One fact for sure is that there will be chase variants of these, a complete different outfit then the normal items. An example, but not the real thing, Han Hoth could have a variant in a case of “X” amount, it would have 1 Han Bespin.
As they are also doing some Indiana Jones, as was explained to us, look for these to hit in August, two of them listed above, then Indiana in Sept, then another two Star Wars, then another Indiana, and so on.
In talking with Diamond, we learned what we already knew, so to speak, there are not too many main characters for Indiana, and a lot for Star Wars, so they will rotate them in the 2:1 ratio, most likely.
They may also have a Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight in the works.

Arnie and Marjorie travel to New York to bring you the latest news and images from Toy Fair 2008. See and get first impressions of the products your favorite vendors have. This promises to be a big year with The Force Unleashed hitting your console of choice and The Clone Wars animated series coming to both the big and small screen. What products are in store. Tune in to find out.
The first stop today was the Hasbro booth. Arnie and Marjorie got samplings of the concurrent lines of figures including animated style Clone Wars figures and the realistic style of The Legacy Collection. Many vehicles, mutlipacks, and other products await us. If 2007 was the year of the ewoke, 2008 is Year of the Droid at Hasbro. Our collecting duo also swung by the Lego booth to see all the great sets coming out with tie ins to both The Force Unleashed and The Clone Wars.

A character key set is traditionally used as a reference by animators when producing character artwork and background plates. For this limited edition, Han Solo has been reproduced on a clear acetate cel which “floats” above the illustrated backing board. Depicted behind the image of Han Solo is the character’s unique color set, rough sketches, and character stats.

It looks like the first preview of Hasbro’s Star Wars and Indy goodies at this year’s Toy Fair has surfaced on the net (unless, of course you count the appearance of part of the ATTE on CNN a few weeks back). This time the information appeared on Coming Soon.net.
While there are no images, some of the highlights include a release date for Clone Wars toys– July 26, 2008, and a suggested retail price for the ATTE which matches the initial rumors–$99.99 instead of $120+. Check it out here.

Saga Legends Variants: Now With More Stickers

I strolled into my local Target store today and amongst the sea of figures, a flash of silvery blue caught my eye. They had just restocked the Saga Legends figures which now sport Clone Wars Captain Rex Offer stickers.
Figures that had this sticker were: General Grievous, R2-D2, EII Clone Trooper Captain (Red), EIII Clone Trooper, Darktrooper, Scout Trooper, Pit Droids (white w/New crate accessory), Darth Maul, Battle Droids (Tan) and Boba Fett.

June Is Star Wars Month At Disney World

Well Disney Hollywood Studios (formerly Disney MGM Studios at least). TheOfficial Disney World site has finally updated with the 411 on this year’s Star Wars weekends. This year it looks like they will only fall during the month of June 2008, and of course there will be exclusives a plenty as you would expect from Disney. The biggest question is whether the second wave of Disney Character Star Wars figures will hit for SWW 08 and/or the Muppet/Star Wars figues will hit for this year.

The Tri-Droid is loaded with articulation and can be posed in multiple configuratiosn. No less that a half-dozen will be gracing my shelves, but be wary of the flexible legs – they may be prone to droopage in the future.

Even though it still features the slash-cut elbow joints, this figure is an improved over the Evolutions sculpt due to the hip articulation. He can now “kick” his former master’s butt!

More 2008 Figures Up Close

The new Evolution sets are right around the corner and the first wave of 2008 figures are being found across the United States at Walmart stores (though the pickings are sparse at best).
Though he’s not officially out in stores yet, we’ve got a couple new pics to share of Evolutions Jango and if you haven’t been able to find the Tri Droid yet, wait until you see how HUGE this impressive droid is.
2008 Wave 4 Rumor List

Our friend over at POTF2.com have posted a new rumor list, this time for wave 4 of the 2008 line. While we all know that nothing is certain until it is officially announced, this list certainly seems to have a great deal of realibility as it includes a figure which Hasbro semi-confirmed for 2008 at Toyfair 2007! It also includes a certain figure which almost saw plastic in the vintage line, and has been on collectors’ wish lists for over 2 decades. Check it out here.

Wave 1 2008

I was looking for those hard to find comic 2-packs, you know the Wal-Mart exclusives. I’ve been chasing them for over 3 weeks now, while at my local Wal-mart, Rand rd and central, Mt. Prospect, IL, I came across wave 1 of 2008, with medical droid 2-1B, Po Nudo, Commander Gree, Kashyyk Scout trooper with lifting up visor, the panning droid mustafar, and of course Obi and Darth Vader/Anakin. The only one I did not see was the Tri-Droid, but they put these figures two aisles away way from the the action figure aisle and where the peg warmers are still and they were on an endcap, too. Which I almost missed, but luckily, I do a thorough job of looking every where, behind stuff, between boxes, I’ve scored quite a bit of “toys” that people “hide”. Anyway they are out there, so good hunting and by the way they also had the last several figures of 2007 without coins, just with stands. And still no comic packs anywhere and I’ve got 3 Wal-marts fairly close to me, its driving me nuts!!

2-1B really to scale?

As we reported earlier in the week, some of the 2008 Wave One figures are noticeably smaller than their past counterparts… in particular, the 2-1B medical droid.
However, according to the Star Wars Databank, 2-1B droids are only 1.5 meters tall, which puts them at slightly under five feet in height.
Also, as illustrated by the photo above, the 2008 version of this droid seems as though Hasbro more accurately sculpted this figure than first thought. Ultimately though, consumers will make the final decision as to whether or not to doom this figure to the shameful honors of pegwarming status.

New Clone Wars Assortment (wave 3) Delayed ‘Til Fall

From Hasbro’s Star Wars Brand Team:
We have previously announced that there would be three waves of our 30th Anniversary basic figures in Spring. That has now been changed – there will be only two. The last wave (on shelf approx. early March) will be The Force Unleashed wave. Due to some last minute delays, the previous third wave has been picked up and moved to the new Fall basic figure line. Nothing will be bumped from the Fall line….these will just be added in.
Fans should not worry as all figures will be coming to the shelf, including General Obi-Wan Kenobi, General Saesee Tiin, Clone Scuba trooper, and more. More details on this assortment will be released at Toy Fair. Similarly, due to production delays, we are pushing back the debut of the next wave of comic packs (including Anakin/Durge and Asaaj/Tol Skorr) until fall as well, but all announced packs *will* be coming out.
